Unit Soccer (Beginner Class)
Day 3
Objectives: By the end of class all students will be able to:
 Perform the basics of dribbling a soccer ball
 Be able to execute a simple person to person pass
 Be able to execute a simple shot on goal
 Organize as a team to play a soccer game
 Have a general understanding on the rules of soccer
Equipment:
 Cover Jerseys (# class dependent)
 Soccer Balls (# class dependent)
 Soccer goal (2/4)
 Cones (# class dependent)
 Tennis Balls (# class dependent)
Safety:
 Forbid soccer tackles (Dependent on student maturity)
 Make sure space is open and free of foreign objects during drills and game
Assessment Suggestions:
 Direct observation
 Completion of drills
 Effort of participation in the game
120 minutes total
Minute 0 to 10 Locker rooms dressing out/ attendance/ introduction
Minute: 10 to 15-20 Warm-up activities
5 laps (inside) 1 lap (outside)
Dynamic stretches (line up on side lines go to other sideline and back Inside) (just to one sideline
to other outside)
Raise leg to stretch in a step then reach down to toes repeat for steps with legs/ High knees/ Butt
kicks/ Carioca/ Squat Slide/ Lunges
Minute 15-20 to 25-30
Ask for students to regurgitate rules/ explain (offside’s, when do you do a throw in, when do a
corner kick, when do a goal kick, when does a free kick occur what all happens during a free
kick, special rules for goalies).
Minute: 25-30 to 29-34
Organize students into teams (Number dependant on class size). Review some of the rules and
guidelines. Could do competitive/ noncompetitive games or 4 teams; let the students decide for
themselves.
Minute 29-34 to 105
Have the students play full games of soccer periodically switching fields and teams facing each
other if 4 teams. Or if competitive/ noncompetitive monitor games and make sure running
smoothly
Minute 105-107
Have students gather materials.
Minute 107 to 120
Send students to locker room to prepare for next class
