Unit Soccer (Beginner Class)
Day 2
Objectives: By the end of class all students will be able to:
 Perform the basics of dribbling a soccer ball
 Be able to execute a simple person to person pass
 Be able to execute a simple shot on goal
 Organize as a team to play a soccer game
 Have a general understanding on the rules of soccer
Equipment:
 Cover jerseys (# class dependent)
 Soccer balls (# class dependent)
 Soccer goal (2/4)
 Cones (# class dependent)
Safety:
 Forbid soccer tackles (Dependent on student maturity)
 Make sure space is open and free of foreign objects during drills and game
Assessment Suggestions:
 Direct observation
 Completion of drills
 Effort of participation in the game
120 minutes total
Minute 0 to 5 Locker room dressing out
Minute: 5 to 10-15 Warm-up activities
Soccer Relay, have the students line up into rows of 5 (may vary on # of people) Students dribble
the ball to the end of the court (or field) ball must be stopped on the line on the other end before
they can dribble back to the line for the next participant to go. Ball can be passed to next player,
but next player cannot go until the player before crosses the line. First team done wins. If they
fail to stop the ball on the line before they come back they must dribble back again.
Minute: 10-15 to 13-18
Organize students into teams (Number dependant on class size). Review some of the rules and
guidelines.
Minute 13-18 to 105
Have the students play full games of soccer periodically switching fields and teams facing each
other.
Minute 105 to 110
Review the lessons of the day
Minute 110 to 120
Send students to locker room to prepare for next class
