This unit plan focuses on teaching 7th grade students about basic genetics concepts over the course of 5 days. The students have little prior knowledge of genetics. Day 1 introduces dominant and recessive genes using videos and worksheets. Day 2 covers heredity and Punnett squares with videos and worksheets. Day 3 explains RNA, DNA, and protein synthesis with presentations and activities. Day 4 discusses genetic mutations through videos, writing, and discussion. Day 5 involves a genetics lab on genotypes and phenotypes with a poster and activity. The overall objective is for students to apply genetics concepts with 87% accuracy.

 Little prior knowledge of genetics (chromosomes, reproduction)
 Learning styles: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic (hands-on)

3. MAIN OBJECTIVE
 7th grade students will apply basic concepts of genetics to
understanding DNA, heredity, gene linkage, expression, and mutations
through the use of various forms of hands on lessons, PowerPoints,
critical thinking assignments, videos, and a lab with an 87% accuracy by
the end of the week.

4. GENERAL PLAN FOR DAYS 1-5
 Day 1: What Are Genetics? : Genes YouTube video, Dominant/Recessive
genes PowerPoint, Compare/contrast parents to child worksheet
 Day 2: Bellringer, Heredity: Mendelian Genetics, Punnett squares worksheet,

 Day 3: Bellringer , RNA and DNA: PowerPoint, protein synthesis & base
paring activity, Twitter/Facebook assignment, Zello assignment
