Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. 1. Unit 9 Evaluation
When doing the practice photos, I found that I enjoyed taking
macro style pictures. Also www.nationalgeographic.comhas
some amazing macro photography galleries which jumped
out at me. Using a macro lens sometimes and a normal one
the rest of the time, I wanted to take some great pictures. I
didn’t change any of the settings on the camera and I took all
pf my images in colour. I edited my two favourite photos
because I want them to be the main focuses of my exhibition.
I edited the photosI like the most by making them black and
white and then addingcolour in specific areas using
Photoshop. I didn’tknow how to do this procedure until
before editing these images but I have learnt this new skill.
Step1- Add a new layer to the image by dragging the
background layer to the “Create a new layer” button. Then
another layer will appear.
2. Step2- Add a mask to the new layer by dragging it to the
“Add layer mask” button.
Step3- Desaturate the image by clicking
Image>Adjustments>Desaturate. This will turn the picture
black and white.
3. Step4- Add colour to the desired part of the picture by
selecting the brush tool, making sure black is set as the
primary colourand brushing the desired area.
This is the end product of this method.
4. I believe that the editing in my exhibitionis my strong point
because it makes the two pictures stand out more. However I
think that the qualityof my pictures is a drawback because I
found that I needed to go and take more pictures as some of
them were low quality.Overall I am happywith my pictures
because the ones I have are good quality and nice to look at.
In my opinioneverything has turned out as I wanted. During
my time doing my exhibitionI have had the time and the
opportunityto spend a lot of time taking pictures so I feel
that I have improved my photographyskills. For example,
now I am a lot better at seeing potentialpictures to take. If I
were to do this project again, I think that I would spend more
time taking pictures in order to get better images for my
exhibition.
From my questionnaire,I have learned that the wasp picture
was the most popularwhile peoplealso liked the picture of
the white flower. However picture 6 was the least popularas
the people I asked thought it was quite plain.
