Math 6: Geometry
Constructing Figures
Before
 What two figures make up each shape?
Explore
 We will be doing the opposite and creating larger figures.

 Draw a quadrilateral that could have an angle of 135 degrees.
Connect
 We can draw a figure using a ruler, compass, and protractor.
 Construct

ABC with AB = 6cm, AC = 5cm and BC = 4cm

 Step 1: Sketch out the triangle and label it
 Step 2: Use the ruler to draw the bottom AB 6cm
 Step 3: Use a compass to measure AC 5 cm and measure BC

to measure 4cm. Place a dot where the two intersect.
 Step 4: Draw the lines to create a triangle
 Step 5: Label the triangle
Connect
 Using a ruler and a protractor
 Draw a parallelogram BACD with AC = BD = 5cm
 BA = DC = 2cm
 Angle ABD = 120 degrees, and angle BDC = 60 degrees
 Step 1: Sketch the parallelogram
 Step 2: Draw BD 5cm long

 Step 3: At B = use the protractor to measure 120 degrees and

draw BA 2cm long
Connect
 Step 4: Use the protractor to measure 60 degrees at D. Draw

DC 2 cm.
 Step 5: Draw line segment AC. Check the AC is 5cm long.
