4. Role of the University
Universities play an important role as leaders in
teaching and learning, in education, research and
technology.
In teaching activities, universities provide the
professional training for high-level jobs, as well as the
education necessary for the development of the
personality.
The role of the universities is very important to all
sectors from social as well legal point of view.
5. Universities can help in providing with the new
knowledge and skills needed to meet the challenges.
Universities are key institutions in processes of social
change and development.
The most important role is the production of highly
skilled manpower and research.
To develop new cultural values, and in training and
socializing people.
6. In Pakistan, the higher education system includes
the public, private and military universities, all accredited by the
HEC.
Since independence, new universities have expanded
throughout the country with support provided by the University
Grants Commission (UGC), which had been an autonomous
institution of recognizing universities until 2002 when it was
preceded by the Higher Education Commission.
At this time, near about 232 HEC recognized universities both
public and private are working in Pakistan.

8. Liberal Arts Philosophy
Liberal arts is a unique system of education popular in America.
In the liberal arts system, you study a variety of discipline, for
example sciences, arts, history, economics, business.
Liberal arts students have the freedom to choose areas of study,
professors and curriculum;
Liberal arts will make you a more mindful and comprehensive person
Liberal arts empowers you to actively shape your environment,
improve society and give back to your community.
It has the potential to liberate personalities, transform lives and lay
the foundations of social justice.
9. Vocational Philosophy
Vocational education prepares learners for careers in manual or
practical activities, traditionally non-academic and only related to a
specific trade, occupation, or "vocation."
Vocational studies focus on the needs of the society rather than
individual.
Professional expertise should be raised for developing skilled person for
the society.
Vocational program may learn less theory than his or her counterpart at
a liberal arts school.
A vocational student will learn how to use the most up to
date technology in the field he or she has chosen.

11. Mode of University
There are different purposes of higher education institutions. Some deal with
curriculum, some combine curriculum and training. Some are providing advice
to governments. Different purposes are producing different models. Four
basic models have been identified which are focusing higher education.
1) The first model is traditional university in which teaching and research is
done.
2) The second model focus on training for development jobs. Some
universities have special institutions in which research or training is
connected with social needs. An example is the medical faculty at the
University of the Sindh.
3) In third model, the institutions provide advice to Govt. and development
planners. Advisors and consultants come from the institutions such as in
the University of Philippines.
4) Fourth model is to direct public policy training and actions. Its aims is
research, training and actions. The international agriculture institute at
Agriculture University, Tando Jam, Pakistan is example of this model.

To recruit first class faculty members and maintain them.
To produce first class graduates
To maintain a first class library.
To conduct first class research.
To participate in community extension services and to
develop models
To establish national and international net working.
