Unit 27 Task 3
Performer Improvement Targets
Introduction
• This task builds on your Task 2 work.
• You need to test your four identified
weaknesses. The testing process should use
standardised or bespoke tests.
• From this testing your results will identify two
priority areas for improvement.
• Your eight week training plan will focus on
these two priority areas only.

Improvement Target 1 (P6)
Priority
Excellence
Trait
Position of the Shuttle
Baseline Test
Result
3/10
Specific Target To have 90% of shuttle serves to be precise and accurate.
Measurable By using markers and a score chart
Agreed Upon The target was agreed upon with my client
Realistic I think that the target is realistic for my client to achieve
Time Based Baseline test (WB 12/01): 3/10
Review (WB 09/02): 6/10
Complete (WB 09/03): 9/10
Improvement Target 1 – Position of
the shuttle
• This target is the most important shot in badminton, and scoring
the weakest after having all four weakest areas tested shows how
much improvement is needed. Serving cis a diverse shot in
badminton and being able to perform a range is a key factor in
order for success within the sport.
• The performance benefit for Lisa for learning how to complete this
shot at a high standard, will be that she will start the rally with
confidence, putting her and her partner at an advantage.
• The performance benefit for the team will be that Lisa’s partner will
be put under less pressure from the return of serve and also be
able to predict the smaller set of outcomes based on where Lisa
tells her she’s hitting the shuttle. This will give her partner
confidence to and they will start the rally with self-assurance.
Student Justification 1
• I believe my client needs to improve her position of the
shuttle because when I conducted the test I found that she
was only hitting 30% of her servers accurately. If my client
improves her serves it means that when in a match she
wont give the attack away and have to defend. By keeping
the attack she will put herself and her partner at an
advantage and having this advantage will enable her to
show her talent as a player. It therefore means she is more
likely to be chosen for the team. By serving accurately
another advantage will be that her and her partner can
predict and minimise the out comes that the opposition
can play, they will then remain in control of the rally and
this will influence her selection in the team as she an prove
that she is a talented player.

Baseline Test
Result
32.98
Specific Target To improve VO2 Max so that it is in the high end of the good category
from normative data tables
Measurable Using a stop watch
Agreed Upon My client agreed upon this target
Realistic I believe this is a realistic target
Time Based Baseline test (WB 12/01): 32.98
Review (WB 09/02):
Complete (WB 09/03):
Improvement Target 2 – Justification
(M3)
• This target is needed because it is an important factor in
exercise and will benefit Lisa when competing.
• VO2 max is a measure of your capacity to generate the
energy required for endurance activities and is one of the
most important factors determining Lisa’s ability to exercise
for longer than four to five minutes.
• By having a strong VO2 max Lisa will be able to exercise
more efficiently for longer.
• This will benefit her as she will be able to perform to a high
standard through out the match
• This will benefit her partner as she will be able to rely on
Lisa as well as benefitting the team by increasing the
chances of a win.
Student Justification 2
• I believe that my client needs to improve her VO2 max
as it was in the fair category. For an athlete in
participation level looking to progress to performance I
think that it is a key issue to be looked at. If my client
improves on her VO2 max her performance level will
be more consistent for a longer amount of time, this
will be a advantage when playing as the other
performers levels will drop giving Lisa the advantage.
Having a strong VO2 max will allow Lisa to focus on her
game and not be worried or have the added pressure
of aching muscles and feeling extremely out of
breathe.

Unit 27 task 3 target planning (1)

  • 1. Unit 27 Task 3 Performer Improvement Targets
  • 2. Introduction • This task builds on your Task 2 work. • You need to test your four identified weaknesses. The testing process should use standardised or bespoke tests. • From this testing your results will identify two priority areas for improvement. • Your eight week training plan will focus on these two priority areas only.

  • 8. Improvement Target 1 (P6) Priority Excellence Trait Position of the Shuttle Baseline Test Result 3/10 Specific Target To have 90% of shuttle serves to be precise and accurate. Measurable By using markers and a score chart Agreed Upon The target was agreed upon with my client Realistic I think that the target is realistic for my client to achieve Time Based Baseline test (WB 12/01): 3/10 Review (WB 09/02): 6/10 Complete (WB 09/03): 9/10
  • 9. Improvement Target 1 – Position of the shuttle • This target is the most important shot in badminton, and scoring the weakest after having all four weakest areas tested shows how much improvement is needed. Serving cis a diverse shot in badminton and being able to perform a range is a key factor in order for success within the sport. • The performance benefit for Lisa for learning how to complete this shot at a high standard, will be that she will start the rally with confidence, putting her and her partner at an advantage. • The performance benefit for the team will be that Lisa’s partner will be put under less pressure from the return of serve and also be able to predict the smaller set of outcomes based on where Lisa tells her she’s hitting the shuttle. This will give her partner confidence to and they will start the rally with self-assurance.
  • 10. Student Justification 1 • I believe my client needs to improve her position of the shuttle because when I conducted the test I found that she was only hitting 30% of her servers accurately. If my client improves her serves it means that when in a match she wont give the attack away and have to defend. By keeping the attack she will put herself and her partner at an advantage and having this advantage will enable her to show her talent as a player. It therefore means she is more likely to be chosen for the team. By serving accurately another advantage will be that her and her partner can predict and minimise the out comes that the opposition can play, they will then remain in control of the rally and this will influence her selection in the team as she an prove that she is a talented player.
  • 11. Improvement Target 2 (P6) Priority Excellence Trait Aerobic Fitness Baseline Test Result 32.98 Specific Target To improve VO2 Max so that it is in the high end of the good category from normative data tables Measurable Using a stop watch Agreed Upon My client agreed upon this target Realistic I believe this is a realistic target Time Based Baseline test (WB 12/01): 32.98 Review (WB 09/02): Complete (WB 09/03):
  • 12. Improvement Target 2 – Justification (M3) • This target is needed because it is an important factor in exercise and will benefit Lisa when competing. • VO2 max is a measure of your capacity to generate the energy required for endurance activities and is one of the most important factors determining Lisa’s ability to exercise for longer than four to five minutes. • By having a strong VO2 max Lisa will be able to exercise more efficiently for longer. • This will benefit her as she will be able to perform to a high standard through out the match • This will benefit her partner as she will be able to rely on Lisa as well as benefitting the team by increasing the chances of a win.
  • 13. Student Justification 2 • I believe that my client needs to improve her VO2 max as it was in the fair category. For an athlete in participation level looking to progress to performance I think that it is a key issue to be looked at. If my client improves on her VO2 max her performance level will be more consistent for a longer amount of time, this will be a advantage when playing as the other performers levels will drop giving Lisa the advantage. Having a strong VO2 max will allow Lisa to focus on her game and not be worried or have the added pressure of aching muscles and feeling extremely out of breathe.
