Unit 27
Task 2 – Coaching Log
Athlete Introduction
• Name: Lisa
• Gender: Female
• Date of birth:30/09/1996
• Age:18
• Height:5” 3
• Weight:55kg
• BMI:22.1
• Sport: Badminton
• Level:Performance
Coaching Log – Athlete Observation
Date 9/12/14
Location Horsham Leisure Center
Strengths I have a lot of previous knowledge about the athlete as I have both
trained and played with her on occasions. I feel that by watching her on
Tuesday enabled me to watch her in a new environment (it was only her
second county standard match) I was able to look specifically at her
confidence and be really specific about the scores I gave. Having the
previous knowledge also enabled me to understand that pressure affects
her and that I need to score her precision on other events too.
Improvement
Areas
To improve I could have watched another game involving a different
partner and a different opposition; I could then see how Lisa adapted to
another players technique of playing. This would have enabled me to
judge her better on areas such as positioning on court and confidence.
Points for future
discussion
In the future I will make sure that I watch a few more relevant games to
make analysing her easier.
Possible actions
arising
I will be looking over my scores in detail to make sure I feel they are
correct and will also be attending another match to ensure this
Coaching Log – Athlete Profiling
Meeting
Date 10/12/14
Location Worthing College
Discussion
points
I explained to athlete what I was anaylising her exactly for and informed
her of the importance that performance profiling has. I then re-informed
her of what the ASA and API’s were before explaining in detail my scoring
system.
Concerns I was concerned that Lisa would be confused by the scale or forget the
different stages half way through. It was important to over come this so
after answers which I didn’t agree on I would remind her of my scale so
she could be sure she scored herself correctly.
Points for
future
discussion
I believe that Lisa understood the scale and am confident that she
thought hard about her answers and that they give a true representation
of her performance.
Possible
actions
arising
I will ensure that I give the coach the same detailed explanation of my
scale so that she too understands it fully.
I will go through the coaches scores with Lisa to see if she agrees on the
points
Coaching Log – Coach Profile Meeting
Date 10/12/14
Location The coaches house
Discussion
points
I explained to her why I had chosen Lisa for my assignments and what
performance profiling was about. I also explained the scale I was using in
detail so she understood what it was.
Concerns My main concern was that the coach wouldn’t understand the scale so
to over come this I used other athletes as examples to compare Lisa to
when judging her.
Points for
future
discussion
To contact both the coach and the player to make sure they agree with
the results that I found.
Possible
actions
arising
I will be contacting Lynn again soon to discuss the 4 strength's and
weakness’s that I found to make sure that she agrees with them
