Why?
Location - Photography Studio, Art
Department
Time - 9:45am to 10:30am
Date - Thu 19/01/18
Why? - I wanted to work in a good
location that I am familiar with and
will be able to alter the background/
atmosphere in Photoshop.
Location - Photography Studio, Art
Department
Time - 9:45am to 10:30am
Date - Thu 19/01/18
Why? - As such, the location would
be suitable as I will have access to
the Photography studio along with
the needed equipment.
Location - Photography Studio, Art
Department
Time - 9:45am to 10:30am
Date - Thu 19/01/18
Why? - A suitable date, wear I had
bright sunny weather, by which the
morning sunlight, allow my images to
have a natural appearance.

Why?
Shot Type - I took a variety of
different shots and angles by which I
then decided to the images that
would help me achieve the
presentation of the model, clothing
and pose
Equipment/ Props - Although I did
not include any props as i wanted
the main image to make the other
features; for instance, the Masthead,
stand out.
Lighting - I went for a natural
lighting, as my final images would
coincide with the morning light,
which gave my images a more
softer appearance
Outfit & Model - My best friend,
Theo Barrett was my model, as this
magazine leans more towards a
male audience. I also aimed to
dress my model with colours and
clothing options that would suit my
magazine House Style.
Shot Type - I decided to go in on a
different approach of a close-up
shot type by having a focal of the
match flame which then resulted in
a darker blurred background.
Therefore, I chose this image as my
double page spread, as the colours
would relate to a dark background
and text.
Equipment/ Props - As seen below,
the main prop I used for my images
were the involvement of match
sticks. I decided on this image due
to, the large frame, dark scenery
and close-up effect.
Lighting - I did not edit this image in
Photoshop as the close up image
provide a darkened image overall
Outfit & Model - I stayed with the
same outfit, as this provided a
contrast of the flame.
Shot Type - By staying within a
sensible angle; I decided on a straight
eye-level which helped me achieve
the final image shown below.
Equipment/ Props - As for my back
page advertisement of a Canon
camera, the ideal prop for this was
easily accessible, as I took my
images in the Photography Studio.
Lighting - I stayed within the natural
morning lighting which then provided
a softer tone and effect, that gave a
good contrast of my images.
Outfit & Mode - With this final image, I
chose the clothing option of wearing a
pale grey hoodie and the same pair of
jeans; by which I thought looked a lot
better (more softer appearance) other
that the red hoodie.

Hazards
Why?
Tripping hazard - Scattered tools,
equipment; which would lead to
accidental tripping as I took my
images in a confined space.
High Shelves - Contain heavy as
well fragile equipment for instance,
cameras. Leaning against the
shelves could have lead to the
mis-balance or knocking of fragile
equipment.
Broken Glass - From a broken
mirror; which was left unsupervised;
this mishap would have lead to cuts,
trips or sharp debris.
Open flame and quite poor
ventilation - Although, I had a
window open, the use of matches in
a small area and quite poor
ventilation would have lead into a
fire hazard and suffocation from the
smoke.
Choking hazard (suffocation) - With
the handling of the camera strap, if
worn incorrectly could have led to a
choking hazard and shortness of
breath as the heavy camera would
weigh down the strap.
Broken Glass - If the camera was
held incorrectly, the camera would
have dropped and scattered the lens.
If this incident would have occurred,
then sharp glass debris would have
scattered and cut someone

Time - 9:45am to 10:30am
Date - Thu 19/01/18
Why? - I wanted to work in a location
that I am familiar with and will be
able to alter my images in a way that
would be suitable and quite easy to
edit in Photoshop.
Location - Photography Studio, Art
Department
Time - 9:45am to 10:30am
Date - Thu 19/01/18
Why? - Working within an
environment that is angled towards
the morning sun would be beneficial
in taking natural images for my
magazine.
Location - Photography Studio, Art
Department
Time - 9:45am to 10:30am
Date -Thu 19/01/18
Why? - As well as the beautiful
weather, this was a suitable date
where me and my best friend, Theo
(my model) both had a free lesson of
period 2, by which led into break, in
which allowed me not to rush and
get the best sharp shots.

Outfit &
Model
Why?
Shot Type - I experimented with
many different shot types and angles
as I wanted to include the expression
as well as the full concept of my
model. For my front cover, I went for
more of a close-up approach by
which the match flame would be the
focal point of the magazine front
cover.
Equipment/Props - I include the prop
of using a matchstick which gave off
a large bright flame; Since my second
magazine is mainly aimed towards
the male gender, I decided on a more
“Rebel” aspect, therefore the
involvement of the matchstick flame
was very ideal for my front cover.
Lighting - I went for natural lighting,
as the perspective of my photos, with
the morning sunlight presented a soft
and subtle effect that made my
images look more natural, and
enhance the colours more
Model & Outfit - My best friend, Theo
Barrett was my model for all three
sections, this is because both my
magazines lean more towards a male
gender audience; I aimed to dress
him with the appropriate colours and
clothes that would suit my magazine
genre well and effectively.
With my second magazine, I went for
subtle colours such as, as grey
hoodie, black shoes and dark blue
jeans; overall these colours for my
magazine compliment the house style
that i would be going for.
Shot Type - I wanted my double
page spread to have roughly two
photographs that had different
angles and shot types. Therefore, I
went for a eye-level shot and a
slightly angled up photograph, in
which I was able to capture the full
body shot.
Equipment/Props - I did not use any
props for this sections of the
magazine, because I wanted the
photos to enhance the other
features on the double page
spread; for instance, the Pull Quote
and the Headline.
Lighting - Following on from the
suitable free period, the angle of the
studio allowed the natural morning
light to enter, which then resulted in
the soft sharp photographs
Model & Outfit - I asked my best
friend, Theo to model for me on the
19th as we both had the same free
period 2.
I asked him to bring a red hoodie, a
grey hoodie, a blue and red top,
dark blue jeans, and trainers the
day before
We agreed on this combination as
the colours suit my House Style that
I was going for in both my
magazines
Shot Type - Decided that I wanted to
change the angle of view, I went for
an image that had a looking up
perspective because, I wanted to
capture the facial expression and the
image overall looked quite dominant,
which would a great image for my
magazine back page.
Equipment/Props - I also decide not
to choose to include any props, that
this would make the advertisement
appear like there is too much on one
page.
Lighting - I decided on natural
lighting. The morning sun gave a
subtle effect that made my images
look more natural, and enhance the
colours more.
Model & Outfit - Similar to my Front
cover and Double page spread,
Theo was my model as this
magazine leans more to the male
audience
I dressed him with the appropriate
colours that would suit my magazine
genre well and effectively and
compliment the magazine

Hazards
Why?
Open Flame - I took my pictures in a
small space, in which the surrounding
objects could have easily caught fired
and led to a fire hazard.
Falling Hazard - With the use of the
brown boards as a plain
background. If leaned against, this
would unbalanced the heavy
boards and fall
Uneven Shelves - As the department
has a lot of shelves, each containing
heavy or fragile equipment, leaning
against them while try to take the
photos or in general could lead to
the unbalance or knocking things off.

Unit 13: Location Recce

  • 1. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Location Recce TeensRule Front Cover Double Page Spread Backpage Advertisement Location; Time? Date? Why? Location - Photography Studio, Art Department Time - 9:45am to 10:30am Date - Thu 19/01/18 Why? - I wanted to work in a good location that I am familiar with and will be able to alter the background/ atmosphere in Photoshop. Location - Photography Studio, Art Department Time - 9:45am to 10:30am Date - Thu 19/01/18 Why? - As such, the location would be suitable as I will have access to the Photography studio along with the needed equipment. Location - Photography Studio, Art Department Time - 9:45am to 10:30am Date - Thu 19/01/18 Why? - A suitable date, wear I had bright sunny weather, by which the morning sunlight, allow my images to have a natural appearance. Pictures Needed/ Required Shot Type Equipment/Pr ops Lighting Outfit & Model Why? Shot Type - I took a variety of different shots and angles by which I then decided to the images that would help me achieve the presentation of the model, clothing and pose Equipment/ Props - Although I did not include any props as i wanted the main image to make the other features; for instance, the Masthead, stand out. Lighting - I went for a natural lighting, as my final images would coincide with the morning light, which gave my images a more softer appearance Outfit & Model - My best friend, Theo Barrett was my model, as this magazine leans more towards a male audience. I also aimed to dress my model with colours and clothing options that would suit my magazine House Style. Shot Type - I decided to go in on a different approach of a close-up shot type by having a focal of the match flame which then resulted in a darker blurred background. Therefore, I chose this image as my double page spread, as the colours would relate to a dark background and text. Equipment/ Props - As seen below, the main prop I used for my images were the involvement of match sticks. I decided on this image due to, the large frame, dark scenery and close-up effect. Lighting - I did not edit this image in Photoshop as the close up image provide a darkened image overall Outfit & Model - I stayed with the same outfit, as this provided a contrast of the flame. Shot Type - By staying within a sensible angle; I decided on a straight eye-level which helped me achieve the final image shown below. Equipment/ Props - As for my back page advertisement of a Canon camera, the ideal prop for this was easily accessible, as I took my images in the Photography Studio. Lighting - I stayed within the natural morning lighting which then provided a softer tone and effect, that gave a good contrast of my images. Outfit & Mode - With this final image, I chose the clothing option of wearing a pale grey hoodie and the same pair of jeans; by which I thought looked a lot better (more softer appearance) other that the red hoodie. • 2. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Location Recce Contact Permission needed Why?/ Evidence Risk Assessment Hazards Why? Tripping hazard - Scattered tools, equipment; which would lead to accidental tripping as I took my images in a confined space. High Shelves - Contain heavy as well fragile equipment for instance, cameras. Leaning against the shelves could have lead to the mis-balance or knocking of fragile equipment. Broken Glass - From a broken mirror; which was left unsupervised; this mishap would have lead to cuts, trips or sharp debris. Open flame and quite poor ventilation - Although, I had a window open, the use of matches in a small area and quite poor ventilation would have lead into a fire hazard and suffocation from the smoke. Choking hazard (suffocation) - With the handling of the camera strap, if worn incorrectly could have led to a choking hazard and shortness of breath as the heavy camera would weigh down the strap. Broken Glass - If the camera was held incorrectly, the camera would have dropped and scattered the lens. If this incident would have occurred, then sharp glass debris would have scattered and cut someone
  • 3. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Location Recce RockStars Front Cover Double Page Spread Backpage Advertisement Location Time? Date? Why? Location - Photography Studio, Art Department Time - 9:45am to 10:30am Date - Thu 19/01/18 Why? - I wanted to work in a location that I am familiar with and will be able to alter my images in a way that would be suitable and quite easy to edit in Photoshop. Location - Photography Studio, Art Department Time - 9:45am to 10:30am Date - Thu 19/01/18 Why? - Working within an environment that is angled towards the morning sun would be beneficial in taking natural images for my magazine. Location - Photography Studio, Art Department Time - 9:45am to 10:30am Date -Thu 19/01/18 Why? - As well as the beautiful weather, this was a suitable date where me and my best friend, Theo (my model) both had a free lesson of period 2, by which led into break, in which allowed me not to rush and get the best sharp shots. Pictures Needed/ Required Shot Type Equipment/ Props Lighting Outfit & Model Why? Shot Type - I experimented with many different shot types and angles as I wanted to include the expression as well as the full concept of my model. For my front cover, I went for more of a close-up approach by which the match flame would be the focal point of the magazine front cover. Equipment/Props - I include the prop of using a matchstick which gave off a large bright flame; Since my second magazine is mainly aimed towards the male gender, I decided on a more “Rebel” aspect, therefore the involvement of the matchstick flame was very ideal for my front cover. Lighting - I went for natural lighting, as the perspective of my photos, with the morning sunlight presented a soft and subtle effect that made my images look more natural, and enhance the colours more Model & Outfit - My best friend, Theo Barrett was my model for all three sections, this is because both my magazines lean more towards a male gender audience; I aimed to dress him with the appropriate colours and clothes that would suit my magazine genre well and effectively. With my second magazine, I went for subtle colours such as, as grey hoodie, black shoes and dark blue jeans; overall these colours for my magazine compliment the house style that i would be going for. Shot Type - I wanted my double page spread to have roughly two photographs that had different angles and shot types. Therefore, I went for a eye-level shot and a slightly angled up photograph, in which I was able to capture the full body shot. Equipment/Props - I did not use any props for this sections of the magazine, because I wanted the photos to enhance the other features on the double page spread; for instance, the Pull Quote and the Headline. Lighting - Following on from the suitable free period, the angle of the studio allowed the natural morning light to enter, which then resulted in the soft sharp photographs Model & Outfit - I asked my best friend, Theo to model for me on the 19th as we both had the same free period 2. I asked him to bring a red hoodie, a grey hoodie, a blue and red top, dark blue jeans, and trainers the day before We agreed on this combination as the colours suit my House Style that I was going for in both my magazines Shot Type - Decided that I wanted to change the angle of view, I went for an image that had a looking up perspective because, I wanted to capture the facial expression and the image overall looked quite dominant, which would a great image for my magazine back page. Equipment/Props - I also decide not to choose to include any props, that this would make the advertisement appear like there is too much on one page. Lighting - I decided on natural lighting. The morning sun gave a subtle effect that made my images look more natural, and enhance the colours more. Model & Outfit - Similar to my Front cover and Double page spread, Theo was my model as this magazine leans more to the male audience I dressed him with the appropriate colours that would suit my magazine genre well and effectively and compliment the magazine

  • 5. Unit 13 and 14 – Planning and Producing a Print Media Product – Location Recce Risk Assessment Hazards Why? Open Flame - I took my pictures in a small space, in which the surrounding objects could have easily caught fired and led to a fire hazard. Falling Hazard - With the use of the brown boards as a plain background. If leaned against, this would unbalanced the heavy boards and fall Uneven Shelves - As the department has a lot of shelves, each containing heavy or fragile equipment, leaning against them while try to take the photos or in general could lead to the unbalance or knocking things off.
