Self-concept develops from ages 14-21 as one's awareness of themselves grows through social interactions and relationships that provide insight into how others react to them. It refers to one's collection of beliefs about who they are including their characteristics, how they think they appear to others, and the type of person they strive to become. Self-concept is built on self-knowledge and derived from social feedback, and it can be measured through self-assessment inventories.
