2. What is a Business Manager?
A business manager is a person within a company
who uses his/her administrative expertise to
increase productivity and efficiency.
Business managers will have to deal with lots of
employees, clients, customers, and supervisors.
They have to be able to deal with people and
have “soft skills” that are required to be open-
minded and extroverted.

3. The Changing Workforce
Business managers must be on top of any change
in a dynamic workforce, because they are
responsible for the increase in profitability of a
business and they are in command of many
employees.
In addition, managers themselves must be open-
minded to accept and adapt to any change in
workforce. Hard, technical skills may not be
sufficient to accustom to such changes.

4. National Occupational Classification
The NOC classification for a business manager will
usually begin with “1,” placing the job under the
category “Business, Finance, and Administrative.”
The second digit will usually begin with 1-3, but any
number may be possible; this means that
education can range from a university degree to
secondary school and short work experience.

important for a business manager – the manager
must be able to work with and direct employees

These skills are also quite important, as the
manager is a role model to other employees, and
demonstrating a positive outlook is important for
overall motivational success

7. How does this job suit me?
Out of personal understanding, I am very well
suited to the job of a business manager. I am able
to meet all of the education requirements – in
fact, some of them already have been met – and I
believe that I have strong interpersonal skills
which lead to strong teamwork and leadership
skills. I am open-minded, willing to change, and
motivated. Importantly, I also have a great wealth
of “soft skills” of emotional intelligence and
dealing with people from my hundreds of hours of
volunteer experience, that will come to great use
as a business manager.
