   Mission of the DBE
     Current mission does not resonate with younger
      members
     Support the new wording of the mission
      statement
   More interactions outside of meetings
     Activities
     Flexible meeting times for women that work
     Establish a relationship connection between
      current and prospective members

   Establish chapters at colleges and universities
   More opportunities to celebrate British
    culture
     Guy Fawkes night
     Christmas cakes


   Board Membership
     Entice younger members to run for board
      positions
     Improve guides for the different officer positions
A Report for the Next Hundred Years
   What is the cause?

   When the DBE started in March of 1909, the
    stated objective was “to stimulate social &
    intellectual intercourse, good fellowship &
    philanthropy among women of British birth”
   Support lowering the required donation
    percentage to Homes from 80 percent
     Allows for other areas of philanthropy that
     younger women can connect with
   Need to allow all districts to support home of
    choice
     Gives chapters the opportunity to help the homes
     that are most disadvantaged
A Report for the Next Hundred Years
   Develop a marketing strategy to recruit new
    and younger members
     Use social networking groups to market DBE
     Develop presentations that local chapters could
      use to spread the word of the DBE
     Educate the public about British heritage and
      culture.
   Better the website
     New administrator
     Update photos and content
     Section for younger members
     Include message boards for members to converse
   Put together a 501 c 3 foundation that would
    allow the DBE to donate money which could
    be distributed as follows:
     Scholarships for members’ children,
      grandchildren, nieces and nephews
     Grants to cover expenses for older British women
      (electric bills, water, gas, etc.)
Under 40s presentation

  • 8. What is the cause?  When the DBE started in March of 1909, the stated objective was “to stimulate social & intellectual intercourse, good fellowship & philanthropy among women of British birth”
  • 9. Support lowering the required donation percentage to Homes from 80 percent  Allows for other areas of philanthropy that younger women can connect with  Need to allow all districts to support home of choice  Gives chapters the opportunity to help the homes that are most disadvantaged

  • 11. Develop a marketing strategy to recruit new and younger members  Use social networking groups to market DBE  Develop presentations that local chapters could use to spread the word of the DBE  Educate the public about British heritage and culture.
  • 12. Better the website  New administrator  Update photos and content  Section for younger members  Include message boards for members to converse
  • 13. Put together a 501 c 3 foundation that would allow the DBE to donate money which could be distributed as follows:  Scholarships for members’ children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews  Grants to cover expenses for older British women (electric bills, water, gas, etc.)

  1. Tried to spread the word – would love to have new members for more input
  2. The primary object shall be charity including, but not limited to, the support of the Homes established by the DBE. The secondary object shall be to foster an understanding of British and British Commonwealth cultures and traditions. - This allows for the organization to change with the times to ensure it continues with new younger members.
  3. Make sure new members feel included – explain what you are talking about
  4. Learn from older members
  5. 50/50 allows for other philanthropy Home of choice allows chapters to help the home that depends on DBE funds Each home needs 33.3% to maintain 501c3 – why can’t they get other funding – why won’t they give us exact dollar amounts needed MBH would go under w/o our support

Separate Corp. just like the homesSeparate governing boards, etc.Set up a 501-c-3 nonprofit foundation Write the bylaws establishing guidelines for accepting and then donating money to members Set up how the foundation is run and governed.- Use the district organizers to help administrate the funds
