This document provides information and instructions for students on using Ubclicks clicker devices at the University at Buffalo. It discusses where to purchase clickers, how to register them on the UBlearns system, how to change channels and troubleshoot issues. It also provides a brief tutorial on answering polling questions during class and examples of sample multiple choice questions asked via clicker.

1. Ubclicks for students

2. Receivers The keypads in each classroom communicate with a receiver that is set to a specific channel. If you use the keypad in more than one class, you may need to change the channel at the beginning of each class. Channel 42

6. Register Clickers on UBlearns Scroll down and select TurningPoint Registration Tool.

8. Press MENU button If your clicker firmware is up to date you will see “ Leave presentation mode? (Y/N)” Select YES. Go to Main Screen

9. CH# 41 Send User Data Presentation Test/Homework Change Channel Use the down arrow key (Yes) to select the Change Channel Menu item. Press the Enter key to change the channel

10. CH# 41 Current Channel You can then use the keypad to enter a new channel number. 41 New Channel #? Press Enter to change to the new channel 42 (Valid channel numbers are from 1-74) If the current channel is correct, then press the Enter button, otherwise... The first screen reports your current channel. Your instructor will let you know what channel to use.

11. CH# 42 Channel Changed If the channel is correct, the keypad will report that the channel has been changed and the receiver was found. ✓ Receiver found.

12. CH# 42 No Receiver on on Channel 42 If there was a problem finding the channel, the keypad will momentarily indicate that it can’t find the receiver. within range! 

13. Answering Questions

14. Polling! The host computer must be able to receive your responses, but can only do so when the polling is open. A status bar at the top of each slide shows when polling is open and the computer is ready to receive your answers If your keypad is in Presentation mode and you have the correct channel selected, all you have to do is press the number of the answer you wish to send to the receiver.

15. Answer 2/B Your answer will be displayed on the keypad. Let’s say you pressed 2/B on your keypad: The check mark indicates the answer was received properly.

16. Changing Your Answer CH# 41 1/A Your Answer: As long as Polling is Open, you can change your answer by pressing any other key. ✓ 1 Polling Open

17. Polling Closed! CH# 41 Not accepting answers! When polling is closed and you try to change your answer, your Clicker will display Not accepting answers! 1 Polling Closed 
