pictures. It is usually, a photographic presentation of news
stories. It is different to documentary and celebrity photography,
because of the narrative and sobriety.

• Newspapers and magazines use photojournalism to tell a story
through images.
• The purpose of photojournalism is to capture people and events
that make the news. It can supplement a text story or can be a
stand alone story.
• Images are more memorable, as they are powerful and
emotional.

• Portrait photography is a more common type of photography -
this is a photograph of a subject (usually a person), that
captures their face and facial expressions. Portrait
photographers create emphasis on a persons face, as it is the
focus of the photograph.
• Three general types of portraiture photography are:
- close ups (facial shots)
- upper body shots
- environmental shots

• Architectural photography is the photographing of buildings and
similar structures.
• Architectural photographers are usually skilled in the use of
specialized techniques and equipment.

• Architectural photographs are used for commercial purposes.
They are taken and used by developers to publish online or in
brochures, or for portfolios.
• These photographs are used for:

8. Fine Art Photography
• Fine art photography is a contrast to photojournalism and other
representational photography.
• Fine art photographers use photography as a means to express
their vision and make an artistic statement.
• Fine art photography tends to be a lot more creative and are
usually highly edited – they do not include much realism. Fine
art photography is also not structured and ranges from
landscapes to nudes, to tell a story.
9. Uses/Purposes of Fine Art Photography
• Fine art photography is not informative, so would not be used in
a newspaper or magazine. however, fine art photography is
commonly used in galleries or as background art in restaurants.
• Because fine art photography is so creative and each
photographer ranges in style, the outcome can be used widely
in different ways, such as artistic book covers, to create different
and artistic/desired effects.
