3. 1. DEFINITION
• It is a text with one or several ideas or
arguments , But With Same Thematic . I
• It is the union of several sentences .
• Have major and minor sentences and Have To
maintain coherence between sentences .
4. Idea: This is a paragraph with an order of time.
Example:
Many of the racial and ethnic groups that live in the Hawaiian
Islands today arrived at different times in history. Most of
them came to work as laborers on the sugar and
pineapple plantations. The first group arrived in the
1850’s, when the Chinese came. They were followed by
the Japanese in the 1880’s, and then the Koreans and
Filipinos in the early 1900’s. These groups were the last
major Asian immigrants to the islands. The immigration
process continues today, but now many workers arrive
from Mexico and Central America.
5. Idea: Is a paragraph of sentences that tells
you how to do something in parts
Example: First sally walked over to jacks
house.
Then sally ask jack if he would like to
play ball. He said sure.
After sally and jack walked to the park
and played ball till evening.
At last they each walked home and had
supper an went to bed.
6. Idea: The objective of this paragraph is that the reader
feel what writer write. Feel, smell and taste.
Example: The Hot Fudge Sundae
In front of me on the table sat a beautiful pure white
bowl, simplistic in design, hiding a decadent
surprise inside. In the bowl was hidden
something that was not so pure, however, the
irresistible indulgence was worth every calorie
that I knew it contained. As I looked inside I saw
on the bottom of the bowl a hot, tender brownie
loaded with macadamia nuts. I knew from past
experience that the nuts had a creamy and
smooth texture, almost like white chocolate.
7. Idea: This is a paragraph that explains deeply the
content.
Example: Going to college can be expensive. First,
college tuition and room and board can cost
anywhere from $2,000 to more than $10,000 per
semester. Other expenses make going to college
even more expensive. For example, books typically
cost between $100 and $500 each term. Second,
materials are also very expensive. Paper,
notebooks, writing utensils, and other supplies
required often cost more at the college bookstore
than at any local discount department store. For
instance, a package of notepaper costing $2 at a
discount store might cost $5 at a college bookstore
8. Idea: Is a paragraph who express the point of the view
of the writer.
Example: ‘UV intensity is the most important factor in
skin cancer fatalities.’ Do you agree? UV
intensity is not the most important factor in skin
cancer fatalities. While residents of Colorado
(mean elevation of 2.1 km) have always been
subjected to the highest UV intensities in the
United States, Colorado has one of the lowest
skin cancer fatality rates of all the states. In
contrast, New England, which has much lower
UV intensities has a death rate from skin cancer
25% higher than it is in Colorado. In addition,
although equatorial regions have higher UV
intensities, the lowest reported skin cancer death
rates in the world come from Mauritius (0.2 per
100,000) and Nicaragua (0.2 per 100,000).
9. Idea: A story o sentences that is written explain,
what, who and when, and is also a
chronological paragraph.
Example: My Favorite Family Experience
One of my favorite family experiences was when I
went to see Anne Frank’s (a Jewish victim of
the Nazi persecution during World War II)
hideout in Amsterdam, Holland. I had read
Anne’s published diary when I was younger,
so I was extremely thrilled to actually have
the chance to see where she and her family
hid from the Germans for so many months. I
walked up the stairs of an apartment
building and into a room with only a
bookshelf in it.
10. Idea: As the title says, this paragraph compare two ideas or
subjects of how they are alike.
Example: My Hogs
Although I raised Marcee and Obbie from puppies, they
have completely diverse personalities. Obbie is a six
year old, male, toy Pomeranian whereas Marcee is a
one year old, female, Boston terrier. Obbie is small
and soft, unlike Marcee who has bristly hair and is
much bigger. Marcee insists on sleeping on the bed,
under the covers every night. On the other hand,
Obbie will only sleep on the floor, under the bed.
Obbie is tremendously loyal and uptight; however,
Marcee is hyper and friendly to anyone she meets or
sees. Around other dogs, Marcee cowers to the larger
dog, yet Obbie will always stand his ground, never
giving up until he is scolded. Given that they were
both treated the same way all their life, it is hard to
believe that they are so different in everything they
do.
11. Idea: This is a paragraph that tries to convince the reader of something
Example: Most TV talk shows depict important life issues with real personal stories.
TV shows such as Montel and Maury have produced hundreds of shows relating
to teen violence, suicide, unsolved murders of family members, AIDS and hate
crimes. People affected by these issues and more write to Montel and other talk
shows about their situations so they can share with others their experiences
with hope of helping someone else. I recently viewed show on Montel about an
unsolved murder. One of the guests spoke about the worst day of her life, the
day her finance' was shot and killed while at work by a random gunman and how
it affected her life. Many people in the U.S. are affected by these types of issues
and suffer in silence due to their belief that nobody cares. Those affected by
these social issues will continue to be victims without TV talk shows such as
these. For the most part, TV shows provide an important view on today's issues
and how they affect everyday people.
