This document defines and describes different types of communication. It identifies five main types: extrapersonal, intrapersonal, interpersonal, organizational, and mass communication. Extrapersonal communication is between humans and non-humans, like communicating with pets. Intrapersonal communication occurs within an individual between their organs and brain. Interpersonal communication is the exchange of information between people. Organizational communication takes place within a hierarchy at different levels, either internally or externally. Mass communication utilizes mass media platforms to reach a wide audience impersonally.
