Top 3 Ways to Align Sales and Marketing Teams for Rapid Growth
T.Y. Lin International Bridge Brochures Campaign
1. Benicia-Martinez Bridge, California
T.Y. Lin International, as part of a joint venture, completed final design and
prepared plans and construction estimates for the segmental concrete girder
bridge. Because of hazardous materials located on the south shore, the
segmental construction method enabled Caltrans to cross the area without
touching the ground during construction.
Sidney Lanier Bridge, Brunswick, Georgia
Acknowledging increased access to the busy Port of Brunswick, the Sidney Lanier
Bridge opened to traffic in 2003. T.Y. Lin International performed the concrete
alternative design and provided construction support services to the owner.
San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span, California
T.Y. Lin International worked closely with community organizations to create
a visually appealing and structurally sound design that would withstand a
maximum credible earthquake, limit environmental impact to the Bay, and
capture the area’s culturally progressive spirit and rich tradition of suspension
bridges.
Caiyuanba Bridge, Chongqing, China
Because the bridge will become a prominent part of the skyline, residents of
Chongqing chose an aesthetically pleasing arch bridge design for the city’s new
landmark. T.Y. Lin International engineers completed the design of this fast-track
bridge project in just nine months, in time for construction to begin during the
dry season.
The Centennial Bridge, Panama Canal, Panama
Built to promote growth on Panama’s western side, T.Y. Lin International
completed the bridge design while construction was already underway, working
with the contractor to complete the fast-track project in just 27 months.
Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, Charleston, South Carolina
Committed to supporting to the local economy, T.Y. Lin International and our joint venture partner established a project office in Charleston and a community outreach
program for local residents. We provided design review, construction engineering, and field inspection services for the new high-level bridge over the Cooper River.
In today’s rapidly changing transportation landscape, T.Y. Lin
International understands that bridges not only improve mobility,
they also reflect and shape the communities they serve. Bridges have
always served as powerful symbols of connection, expansion, and
progress, but as modern public works projects grow increasingly
complex, bridges also represent something more — partnerships.
Nowhere is this partnership more evident than in our client
relationships and our holistic approach towards project delivery. Our
clients look to us for more than technical consulting; they want to
work with us to create unique transportation solutions that satisfy a
distinct, diverse group of stakeholders. The trust we build between
our project teams has enabled T.Y. Lin International to deliver
some of the most significant landmark bridge projects in the world,
renowned for their technical achievements, aesthetics, and the
enhancements they provide to surrounding communities.
We believe in the power of bridges to connect people, and we
continue to embody the innovative spirit that has always made
T.Y. Lin International a pioneer in the advancement of bridge
engineering and project delivery.
Bridges

Bih-Tan Bridge, Taipei, Taiwan
Taiwan’s Ministry of Transportation and Communications requested an elegant
design with great visual appeal. T.Y. Lin International engineers combined their
knowledge of concrete segmental construction with a design whose simple
lines cast the eye on the geometry of the two delta arches—and in doing so,
exceeded everyone’s expectations.
Dagu Bridge, Tianjin, China
Designed to withstand the highest class of seismic forces in China, Dagu Bridge
is a feat of engineering that also serves as a new symbol for the city of Tianjin.
Dagu Bridge crosses the Haihe River which is said to resemble a mythical Chinese
dragon. The new bridge’s asymmetrical arches represent the sun and moon.
Hence the motto, ”The sun and the moon dance with the golden dragon.”
Second MacArthur Bridge, Taipei, Taiwan
The longest Nelson tied arch bridge which carries the Tien Mu Expressway
across the Keelung River was the first of its kind when it opened to traffic in
1995. With a total length of 210 meters and inclined arch ribs that almost
meet at the crown, the MacArthur Bridge brings both visibility and grace to the
Taipei Skyline.
Hoover Dam Bypass, Clark & Mohave Counties, Nevada & Colorado
The challenge? Design a bridge that complements the neighboring Hoover Dam.
T.Y. Lin International engineers prevailed with a concrete composite arch span that
crosses the rugged Black Canyon. When complete, it will be the longest concrete
arch bridge in the U.S. as well as the first hybrid bridge of its kind, combining a
composite steel deck with a segmental concrete arch and spandrels.
Crooked River Bridge, Terrebone, Oregon
One transportation official called the Crooked River Bridge the “marquee project
of the decade.” The grandeur of the Crooked River gorge coupled with the
adjacent, famed Conde McCullough Bridges demanded a careful consideration
of architecture, environment, and bridge type.
Caiyuanba Bridge, Chongqing, China
Located in the “Bridge Capital of China,” the world’s longest basket-handle arch bridge was designed with an eye toward aesthetics. A pair of steel boxes forms the arches,
giving the bridge its slender appearance, while the arch ribs incline inward, making the bridge seem lightweight. Its combined beauty and functionality (carrying both
highway and rail traffic on its double-deck truss) led the owner to hail the design as a perfect blend of form and function.
For the past five decades, T.Y. Lin International engineers have brought
their creativity and ingenuity to bear on the design of arch bridges. But as
communities have grown and become increasingly mobile, so too the designs
have become more complex. Today’s bridges must carry life spans of 100
years or more, and our engineers have worked harder to increase their
structural efficiency with great success.
T.Y. Lin International has played a vital role in the design and construction
of arch bridges that set the standard for design excellence. We take pride
in building arches that last longer than a lifetime, as they represent more
than simply structures that span a canyon, lake, or gorge. They are symbols
of connection and beautiful displays of engineering. As visionary artists, we
continue to imagine the structures of tomorrow and shape our ever-evolving
bridgescape.
Bridges
That
Inspire Lowry Avenue Bridge, Hennepin County, Minnesota
Driven by a high-profile public involvement process, Hennepin County chose
T.Y. Lin International for our ability to design a signature bridge that features
streamlined structural elements. Engineers introduced new hangers that are
internally connected to the arch box girder sections, resulting in no outward
appearance of gusset plates. The sections of the arch are bolted internally,
resulting in a smooth external finish of the arch.

Arch Bridges:
Elegant Strength
T.Y. Lin International
Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taiwan
For this Build-Operate-Transfer mega-project, T.Y. Lin International performed
the preliminary and final designs for 25 elevated bridges representing a total
length of approximately 30 km. Undaunted by the project’s magnitude and
complexity, engineers designed an energy-dissipating locking system to limit the
bridge superstructure displacement to within five mm under train braking and
acceleration forces.
Kanawha River Bridge, South Charleston, West Virginia
T.Y. Lin International embraced the opportunity to design an aesthetically
pleasing bridge in the face of strict budget requirements. Engineers reduced costs
by conducting a pre-construction drilled shaft load test for the foundations, and
reduced maintenance by incorporating expansion joints only at the abutments,
resulting in an economical design that also boasts the longest concrete box
girder span in the U.S. at 760 feet.
Benicia-Martinez Bridge, California
T.Y. Lin International and a joint venture partner completed the final design and
prepared plans and construction cost estimates for the segmental concrete box
girder bridge, which serves as a seismic lifeline structure to the San Francisco
Bay Area. Design innovations include the unique application of midspan hinges
between the frames, atypical for a high-seismic zone but necessary to eliminate
differential rotations due to heavy loads.
Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge, Sirajganj, Bangladesh
T.Y. Lin International prepared the winning pre-bid design for Hyundai
Engineering and Construction as well as the final design, plans, and quantities
for this Design-Build project. At a total length of 4.8 km, the world’s eleventh
longest bridge was designed to withstand a maximum credible earthquake. T.Y.
Lin International’s constructible design featured 3.15-m-diameter piles ensuring
the structure’s stability against seasonal monsoons.
H-3 North Halawa Valley Viaduct, Oahu, Hawaii
T.Y. Lin International provided complete design and construction support services
for a pair of 6,000 ft twin curved viaducts built over seismically active and
environmentally sensitive terrain. Engineers used 2,000 ft frames to minimize the
number of expansion joints, reducing both maintenance and life cycle costs.
San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span Skyway, California
T.Y. Lin International engineers faced the challenge of designing a viaduct with two parallel roadways, the components of which could be readily repaired and/or replaced in
the event of a major earthquake of 7.2–8.0 magnitude. From the seismically resistant foundation to the highly ductile pre-cast deck segments, each component was tested
for performance and post-earthquake repairability, a practice not commonly used by engineers—until now.
With today’s increasing demand for reliable and economical infrastructure,
T.Y. Lin International understands the value of combining advanced design
methods with practical construction knowledge to develop cost-effective,
aesthetic structures for our clients. The well-rounded expertise of our
engineering team allows us to apply innovative solutions throughout the
design and construction process, and the results speak for themselves—
award-winning projects delivered to satisfied clients.
Nowhere is this ingenuity more evident than in the design and construction of
the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge East Span Skyway. The structure’s
pre-cast girder segments are thought to be the largest ever built, with spans
weighing as much as 800 tons. In addition to setting the record books, T.Y. Lin
International engineers kept an eye on costs, utilizing the balanced-cantilever
method of construction to erect the segments. The 525 ft long spans reduced
the number of piers and minimized the cost of the deep foundations.
Our flexibility, creativity, and knowledge gained from years of experience
in the field embody the innovative spirit that has always made
T.Y. Lin International a pioneer in the advancement of bridge engineering.

Shibanpo Bridge, Chongqing, China
Now the longest concrete box girder bridge in the world, the 330 m main-span
Shibanpo Bridge connects Chongqing’s business district to the southern district
over the Yangtze River. In order to accommodate ship traffic, T.Y. Lin International
engineers designed a unique 103 m steel box section to extend the main span
of the bridge. This innovative solution made the best use of available materials,
kept the project on schedule, and made the structure economically efficient.

I-4/Lake Ivanhoe Pedestrian Bridge, Orlando, Florida
This modern bridge provides connectivity within Orlando’s Urban Trail System,
marking the entrance/exit of downtown Orlando. After extensive coordination
with a design review committee comprised of State DOT officials and the greater
Orlando community, TYLI developed an arch configuration that promises
residents an iconic, bicycle and pedestrian-friendly structure.
Diamondback Bicycle/Pedestrian Bridge, Tucson, Arizona
In 1997, a local Tucson artist was selected by the client and a local arts council
for the idea of designing a bridge shaped like a snake. This award-winning bridge
integrates post-tensioning applications with classical construction methods to
imitate the features of a Diamondback rattlesnake. Using a creative combination
of metal fencing, a diamond-shaped steel tubing configuration, and a tub-shaped
box girder, TYLI’s signature bridge embraced the practice of functional art.
The Bridges at Rancho Santa Fe, Rancho Santa Fe, California
Using an innovative stressed-ribbon design that takes maximum advantage of
modern prestressing steel, these surprisingly rigid bridges span 80-foot-deep,
300-foot-wide canyons with no intermediate supports. The stressed-ribbon
method does away with tall piers, falsework, and associated environmental
impacts by making use of the near-surface bedrock at each edge of the canyon.
Lake Hodges Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge, San Diego, California
TYLI provided concept studies, detailed design, and resident engineering and
inspection services during construction for what is the world’s longest stressed-
ribbon bridge, the approximately 1,000-foot crossing of Lake Hodges. With three
spans of 330 feet and a depth of only 16 inches, the depth to span ratio is an
amazing 1 to 248, enabling the dramatic crossing to “float” across the lake.
Blue Heron Pedestrian Bridge, Newton and Watertown, Massachusetts
Aesthetics played a key role in determining the final design for this 140-foot-long
painted and galvanized steel-tilted tied arch bridge that links two Massachusetts
communities. A highly visible centerpiece, the Blue Heron Bridge befits its rustic
surroundings, accommodating joggers and cyclists.
Cedar Avenue Bridge, Flagstaff, Arizona
With its dramatic backdrop of Flagstaff’s San Francisco Peaks, this impressive arch links the Flagstaff Urban Trail System and the Arizona Trail System, providing a safe
crossing for hikers and cyclists over busy Cedar Avenue. The design of this variable-depth, post-tensioned box girder utilized 5000-psi concrete, resulting in a very thin
structure at the center span. Crossing over the bridge and passing underneath the 138-foot single span imparts an open, airy feeling for both pedestrians and drivers.
Historically, pedestrian bridge designs have met the critical need
for safety in areas where transportation networks typically favored
motorized versus non-motorized modes of travel. However, many of
today’s crossings satisfy practical requirements such as pedestrian
safety while still addressing equally pressing issues such as creating
more livable urban environments. No longer just about getting people
from point to point on foot, pedestrian bridges generate community
pride and serve as landmarks in their own right.
T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) has been at the forefront of footbridge
bridge design for decades. Our designs are a collaboration between
the engineer and the community, culminating in definitive and
oftentimes artful structures that serve a plethora of uses. Whether
it’s a destination bridge or a bridge that enhances its natural
surroundings, TYLI skillfully designs footbridges for every purpose.

Design Harbor Drive Pedestrian Bridge, San Diego, California
Located adjacent to the San Diego Convention Center, the Harbor Drive
Pedestrian Bridge is a graceful single-cable, self-anchored suspension bridge
with a single inclined pylon and a curved deck suspended only along its inside
edge. Due to its prominent location and unique appearance, the bridge will
serve as a southern gateway to downtown San Diego.
