Ford s Revitalization Strategy Essay
Case 4 Ford and the World Automobile Industry Robert M. Grant FORDВ’ S
REVITALIZATION STRATEGY In September 2003, Bruce Blythe took up the new position as
chief strategy officer at Ford Motor Company. His appointment came in the wake of a massive
upheaval of FordВ’ s strategy, leadership, and organization. In 2001, FordВ’ s CEO Jacques
Nasser had been ousted by the board after a three year tenure. NasserВ’ s goal had been to
transform Ford into a flexible, customer focused, innovative, global giantВ— that simultaneously
paid careful attention to profitability and shareholder return. By late 2001, it was clear that the
strategy was not working. Overpriced acquisitions had dissipated shareholder value, the Firestone

By the turn of the century hundred of small companies were producing automobiles both in
Europe and in America. By 2004, the industry was in different stages of its life cycle in different
parts of the world. The US industry entered a period of rapid growth during 1910 28, and
reached its peak of production in 1965. In the two decades up to 2004, car production was on a
downward trend, but if trucks were included, output was broadly stable (see table 4.2). In Europe
and Japan too, total production was showing a declining trend The problem of market saturation
was exacerbated by the tendency for cars to last longer(see table 4.3). [Tables 4.2 and 4.3 about
here] As a result, the automobile producers have looked increasingly to the newly industrializing
countries for market opportunities. During the 1980s and 1990s countries such as Korea, Malaysia,
Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina offered the best growth prospects. As these
markets became increasingly saturated, so China, India, and the former Soviet Union were seen as
the В“ next waveВ” of attractive markets. With the opening of many of these countries to trade and
direct investment, the world production of cars and trucks s continued to grow (see table 4.4 ).
[Table 4.4 about here] The Evolution of the Automobile The early years of the industry were
characterized by considerable uncertainty over the design and technology of the motorcar.

Mexican Independence from Spain
Mexican Independence from Spain
In the late 18th century, the Spanish monarchy decided to improve the defenses of its empire
because of its many military losses in Europe. Because of this, the Spanish Crown was forced to
increase revenues. Between 1765 and 1771, Spain sent JosГ© de GГЎlvez on an official tour of
inspection of New Spain. He restructured the current taxes and their collection methods..
In 1778, Spain, attempting to increase its own revenues, lifted restrictions on colonial trade. This
allowed more commerce for the colonists and allowed for more trade between the privileged of
New Spain and the other Spanish colonies in America. Since the Spanish monarchy was so

Many Criollos in New Spain began to read the works of the Enlightenment writers and then began to
question the benefits and reasons for their colonial relationship with Spain. The Mexican colonists
were also affected by the examples of the American Revolution and the French Revolution.
All of the aforementioned factors contributed to the independence movement of Mexico. However,
the main steps towards independence came because of Napoleon s invasion of Spain in 1808.
The monarchy was greatly weakened when Napoleon gave the crown to his brother causing the
people of Madrid to revolt. With Spain s back turned, the leaders of New Spain began to argue
amongst themselves. The viceroy was forced to allow the Criollos to participate in administration.
Then, a group of Peninsulares, those who had been placed in many of the administrative positions,
did not like that the Criollos were gaining any influence in the government. They staged a coup d
etat and overthrew the viceregal government.
Shortly before dawn on September 16, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla made a monumentous
decision that revolutionized the course of Mexican history. Within hours, Hidalgo, a Catholic
priest in the village of Dolores, ordered the arrest of Dolores native Spaniards. Then Hidalgo rang
the church bell as he customarily did to call the indians to mass. The message that Hidalgo gave to
the indians and mestizos called them to retaliate against the hated Gachupines, or native

Women s Impact On Young Girls And Adult Women
Having insecurities and flaws impacts almost anyone and also commonly on young girls and

women struggle daily with the way their appearances and even try to seek for approval as a way

THE REFUGE There were, are, and will be the great title winner in this world. In those title,
there were, are, and will be looser. This is funny to say that I was, I am, and and will be great

talk about I am being winner is dumbest thing I have ever talk. You can call me whatever you
can because I was born with great title that few people in this world had, have, and will have.
The title that might get you to know what is that. Let s talk about Bhutan. I think everybody

in the struggle life. Struggle life that food aren t enough to eat. Education isn t good and proper.
Where there is no hope and life is more worst than prison life. Struggle life? You might tell me

Employee Motivation And Motivation Theory
Employees are valuable resources for companies and them could be competitive advantages for
modern companies. It is important for modern companies to improve employee satisfaction and
performance so that they can improve their organisational performance and competitiveness
(Armstrong, 2006). As a result, Employee s motivationmanagement is significantly for companies.
Motivation is a cognitive process to guide, initiate, direct and maintain goal oriented activities. It
can also be defined as the driving forces directing people s actions (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2013).
Employees making contribution for firms because they are motivated by something, such as
successful companies can always identify the factors motivating their employees and conduct
responsive practices to motivate employees to improve performance (Podmoroff, 2005).
Diversity motivation theories explained what motivate people at work, such as extrinsic and
intrinsic motivation theory, Maslow s need hierarchy theory, Herzberg s two factor theory, equity
theory, expectancy theory, goal setting theory, and inner work life theory, etc (Huczynski and
Buchanan, 2013). People try to explain the motivation concept from the different point of views.
These perspectives can be divided into two types. One is content theories, which focus on goals
and needs of human beings, and the other is process theories which focus on the cognitive and
decision making process in the mind of people. Every theory has made some contribution

Upon hearing the news of her husband s death, Mrs. Mallard wept at once, with sudden, wild
abandonment (Chopin 65) Specifically, Chopin makes us believe Mrs. Mallard was never
happy, even from the shock in the beginning to a new outlook; she never had the life she wanted.
She sits calmly down: There stood, facing an open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair.
(Chopin 65) Mrs. Mallard in turn shows us that the word comfort is used to imply a different
reaction than we would expect normally from losing a loved one. Discovering when she looks
out the window she views life in a different way. Mrs. Mallard starts studying the nature outside
the window: The delicious breath of rain was in the air. In the street below a peddler was crying
his wares. The notes of a distant song which some was singing reached her faintly, and countless
sparrows were twittering in the eaves. (Chopin 66) Bringing attention to new life, and a fresh
start I believe the author was emphasizing on. At the same time we see as she runs off to her
room. When she abandoned herself a little whispered word escaped her slightly parted lips. She
said it over and over under her breath: free, free, free! (Chopin 66). This feeling; the feeling of
freedom is obviously something Mrs. Mallard hasn t felt for a very long time I believe. Mrs.
Mallard has felt restrained and controlled throughout her whole marriage, emotionally and
physically by her husband as we see in the

Pathos Ethos In Bowling For Columbine
The 2002 film Bowling for Columbine is a documentary written, directed, and narrated by Michael
Moore. Moore has won numerous awards including the Academy Award for best documentary
feature. The film explores acts of violence with guns and the primary causes for the Columbine
School Massacre, where two students shot and killed thirteen people and injured twenty one others.
Bowling for Columbinetakes a deep and often disturbing probe into what the motives may have
been for the shooters and investigates other gun related issues along the way. Moore explores
different aspects of gun culture such as receiving free guns from a bank, taking a look at America s
violent history, and interviewing important people like Charlton Heston, former president of the
National Rifle Association. The film ultimately comes to the conclusion that the American culture
of fear along with the accessibility of guns is the reason why there are so many gun related deaths.
This thesis is supported by many examples Ethos, Logos, and Pathos evidence.
Ethos is when the author uses the reputation, credibility, experience, and values of the author or an
expert as a means of persuasion. Moore himself is a renowned documentary maker and he ensures
that his film is factually true. However, at times he manipulates facts and other people to suit his
needs. For example, in the beginning of the film he is seen opening an account at a bank where
customers that open an account receive a free gun. Moore himself

Similarities Between John Smith And William Bradford
Smith vs Bradford
Both John Smith and William Bradford journeyed to the New World during the time of America s
colonization in the early 1600s. These two men recorded their experiences during the voyage to
share with people back in their home country of England. While Smith and Bradford traveled to the
same place, their accounts were extremely dissimilar from each other. John Smith s General History
of Virginia, New England, and the Summer Isles describes America as an agriculture and livestock
rich area with endless opportunity. On the other hand, in Of Their Voyage, And How They Passed
The Sea; And Of Their Safe Arrival At Cape Cod, William Bradford stresses the hardship faced that
extended past the voyage and the painstaking work that goes into colonization. Although Smith and
Bradford s accounts have some similarities, the idea of the American dream is strengthened by
Smith and threatened by Bradford. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Smith s written experience of the New World is often viewed as propaganda due to his account
only listing positive aspects of living in America. But, his strategy proved successful as more
hard working Englishmen began to travel to America to colonize as a result of John Smith s
account. In his writing, initially he talks about the great abundance of fruits and livestock
available to show potential colonists that hunger would never be an issue in the New World. Also,
his general satisfaction with the land s fertility and the convenience of nearby bodies of water is
explained throughout the work. These are important factors for a British society to have since,
around this time, long distance trading became a new way to conduct business. Smith even goes
further and states that there is no need for trading outside of the colonies as America has everything
one would ever desire within 100

The Canon of Scripture Essay
Most Christians do not think about the canon of scripture or know what it is or means in
theology. Most take for granted the Bible they have and never question how it came into being.
Today, we have 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament. There was a
time, however, that we did not have a canon. Bruce defines canon as books of the Biblethat were
recognized to be considered scripture (p. 17). The importance of the canon and how it was
developed was intriguing to professor and author F.F. Bruce. He dedicated his book The Canon of
Scripture to explore and explain the formulation of the canon we have today. Bruce taught in
universities, including the University of Manchester, where he began to lecture students on the...

The third section dissects the formation of the New Testament with more historical context and
views of other writings defined as Gnostic writing. Bruce explains the spoken words of the
apostles carried as much authority as their written words and gives an in depth explanation how
the Gospels and Pauline writings were viewed by the Church Fathers. The rest of the section
demonstrates the Church Fathers and their views of what was to be considered scripture and the
councils that affirmed the inspired scripture. Bruce concludes by explaining the criteria used for
writings to be considered canon. He goes into more depth on the inspiration of the scriptures an
integral part of how the canon came together. The close of the book is appended by two lectures
that explore the secret gospel of Mark and the Primary Sense and Plenary Sense of scripture. Bruce
offers a solid explanation of the formation of the canon chronologically starting with the Hebrew
scriptures (p. 21) until the 4th century where church councils started to present the first spoken
finished canon (p. 97). Bruce shows the importance of the Old Testament scriptures, but writes most
about the New Testament. He not only shows how the New Testament came to be a canon but
offers a deep analysis of non canonical scripture called the Apocrypha (pp. 48, 90 93). Bruce offers
impressive observation into the Gnostic writers as it regards the

Mansfield Short Stories
Through her short stories you feel the emotional connection within the characters. She was a
young New Zealand who was dying with a disease called Tuberculosis, dying at the age of 34.
Successfully, she wrote three books with a fourth and fifth book following after her death. There
were many trigger points that led her to become a writer, they were moving back to New Zealand,
her brother s deathin World War 1, and her sensations with how women were treated. Her stories
were described as blurred edges of personality, the poetry of feelingand the expansiveness of the
interior life. (Wilkins) One may argue that Mansfield works never romances the tragedies of modern
women, but rather sympathizes with the women she portrays as she suspends the happy ending.
The women at the store, describes the emotion of a lonely lower class woman with a young bratty
child and a mangy dog running the store. Two men named Jo and Jim ride up on the store
expressing their first impressions as the women being ugly. The men question her husband s
whereabouts, she is confused and changes the subject to avoid answering the question. One of the
men suggests she comes down to the paddock with tea, instead, she quickly responds I don t fancy

she endures every day. She exposes her night gown to the men in the motion of dropping the

Amazon then uses this information and knowledge to market new product releases based on each
customer s unique interests. Possible data management issues may stem from the length of time it
takes Amazon to update information on their website. Invalid data can cause confusion on what

during checkout they discover some selections are unavailable due to a negative inventory. Another
concern is maintaining and updating security networks needed to verify personal information, and
protecting customers against identity theft. Amazon uses e business and e commerce for the buying

Lean And Six Sigma
Introduction
Efficiency and effectiveness are two key terms in business, no matter the industry a company
activates in, as measuring firm strategy and performance has become more and more critical
nowadays. All organizations seek to achieve both and this requires a whole range of tools and
resources. Efficiency relates to the degree to which an organization uses resources optimally in
order to provide its services (Ala, Carol, Joy, Aziz, 1993, p. 39), while effectiveness measures the
extent to which it provides appropriate services (Ibidem). Furthermore, being efficient means doing
things right . Being effective means to do the right things (Roberto, Carlo, Roland, 113, p. 429). It
is therefore quite likely that a company cannot do both simultaneously, and here the concepts of
lean thinking , Six Sigma management and even Lean Six Sigma arise. ... Show more content on

Summary Of A Long Way Gone And The Bite Of The Mango
A Long Way Gone and The Bite of the Mango are two stories written about the same war and its
effects from the two different perspectives of a young boy, Ishmael and a young girl, Mariatu.
Although both novels have their differences, when compared, they come together to create a
wider understanding of how the civil war in Sierra Leone affected all kinds of people in ways
both comparable and dissimilar. In both The Bite of the Mango and A Long Way Gone, main
characters Mariatu and Ishmael are forced to mature at an extreme pace by going through
several, very different experiences caused by the same war. In the majority of The Bite of the
Mango, Mariatu is at the young age of fourteen, but before then, she is just twelve years old,
living in Sierra Leone with her family. When talk about the war begins to spread throughout her

happened, we abandoned our homes and took nothing with us, hiding in the bush for several
days as we listened to our stomachs moan in hunger (Kamara and McClelland 19). During these
drills, they would hear word spread about rebels nearby, then pack some things in a bag, leave
their homes and hide in bushes for days on end, sometimes starving themselves for fear of
coming out and being raided by the rebels. However, her childhood is ripped away from her

Henoildo had an easy temperament as an infant. He was generally happy and smiled a lot.
Henoildo is now resilient, but did struggle with some overcontrolling emotions. Around 3 years

7 November 2015 Though we Americans, in all of our efforts, feel as if the day of racism is
coming to an end, I feel it is merely evolving into a much more subtle approach. Seeing life
through the words of Anne Moody in her book entitled, Coming of Age in Mississippi , shows that
racism, even back then, is treated with remedies versus a cure. After the many anti discrimination

Anne Moody saw the true hideousness of racial violence shortly after beginning high school.
Emmet Till was killed by a group of white men for merely whistling and showing interest in a
white woman. Anne was surprised at how unaware she was to the things happening around her. I
don t remember if anyone was murdered, but back when I was in high school it was almost as if
whites viewed it to be cardinal sin for an African Americanmale to be with a white woman. This
too was a time where I saw the true reality of what it was to be an African American versus a White
American. Anne s mother informed her to continue throughout life as if nothing happened but
understandably she couldn t. While working Anne could not focus and her rage began to
display. Mrs. Burke made an attempt to talk to Anne concerning Emmet Till s death but Anne
acted as if she didn t know what Mrs. Burke was speaking of. Mrs. Burke told her that that is
what happens when black people step out of place with whites. It was at that point Anne began to
fear for her life now learning the true outlook of being an African American. I see on a daily basis
where African Americans accept injustice and move on with life as if it doesn t matter. Instead of
standing in the gap for what could very well hit home African Americans tend to turn a blind eye to
the corruption and cruelty we face.
So many times within the work force we, African Americans, are reminded where we stand in the

How to Evaluate Web Site
Valeriy Chopko

How to Make a Choice in Favor of a Better Website The rapid development in internet technology
in the last few decades has made it possibly to find something on web more efficiently, especially
if you need particular information. It is a common thing these days when you are looking for
something not to leaving home. However, I faced one problem doing some search on the internet. I
had a question about people s health, and I wanted to get an answer. I put my keyword in the
search engine and start searching. People who search on the internet know how many results you
can get on your searching. I started to open websites and looked at them trying to find what I

one informative page could I find there. Every time when I clicked on links, I got a new page
with selling products. So, we can see that Health Guard does not have coverage. Bias is one
more criterion for evaluating two websites. We already know that CMHC is sponsored by the
educational institution that is a non profit organization, but it directly relates with health. All
information that we can find here is informative but not advertisement. There is no selling of
any kind of products. Graphics, fronts, and capital letters do not play with our emotions. They
just make reading easier. In contrast to CMHC, Health Guard is a profit site which focuses on
attracting people to buy their products. Advertising is everywhere. For example, you can find
how much a happy pack costs even on the home page. There are a lot of capital letters colorful
pictures with products and their prices almost everywhere. We can see words such as only $
dollars or order now. They play to the reader s emotions. Every page is very colorful and looks
crowded, so that makes reading really hard. Finally, the currency criterion helps us to find a better
site. Going to the section Emergency Information on CMHC at the bottom of the page, I found the
date when the page was last updated. It means that this site is still working, and the publisher is

The Egyptian movie industry is over one hundred years old putting into consideration it began in
1896. In January 1896, Promio, a Lumiere photographer, visited the country to create short films
and showed it showed the Egyptians. By 1908, the country had ten movie houses, three of them in
Alexandria and five in Cairo. As more Egyptians viewed the films, they started to become
interested in the art of filmmaking. The first Egyptian films by an Egyptian were made in 1912 by
Abdel Rahman Salheya after hiring outside technicians. In 1927, Layla became the first full length
but silent movie in the country. In the 1980s, film production in Egypt started decreasing. However,
the latest trend in the Egyptian movie industry seems to be giving it a bad name. In 2014, it was
argued that Egyptian films bore a close resemblance to those from Hollywood (Meky, 2014).

The Aims Of Literature Search
The aims of literature search are multiple. For starters, it is a necessary preparation for literature
review that is to say, after searching for existing knowledge, we may have a deeper insight into
research we are going to conduct. Additionally, it is an appropriate approach to update knowledge
and identify a quite narrow gap for further investigation.
Literature searching process can be divided into 6 steps separately: choosing keywords, planning
strategy, selecting database, running search, evaluating results and saving references. (source:
lecture slides)
In order to have a deeper understanding of lender of last resort and find the gap for further
investigation, I made full use of the Catalogue Plus and found the six articles.
For starters, I entered lender of last resort the key word into the search bar and got 5986 articles.
To narrow down the scope, I used the advanced searching and chose to search for the title entered
lender of last resort, central bank into two different search bar, as a consequence, the system gave
me 1820 articles. In order to get the latest article, I selected the data newest and chose the
material type article and I got only 68 this time. Another approach I used is using database search.
After clicking the select database and choosing economics in category, then I got 26 database and
clicked the EBSCO, so I went the main search page. I entered more specific words lender of last

Rhetorical Analysis Of King George Vi s Speech
Throughout history, leaders and those looking to be leaders have given persuasive speeches to
potential followers in order to garner as much support as possible. As he attempted for the
second time to become consul, This time of chaos involved poverty and power being in the
hands of a small group of powerful men. Angered by this, L. Sergius Catilina delivered a speech to
persuade a private group of people to elect him as consul so he could be the leader of a rebellion
against this small group. Like Catilines speech, King George VI s speech that declared war on
Germany before World War II was delivered during a time of chaos. Delivered by radio to his
subjects, King George s speech reached far and wide in order to persuade people to help... Show

They should feel proud that their support is the thing that will lead to success in either the rebellion
or the war. Their sheer persuasion through their rhetoric is the key instrument for this support.
A key part of both Catiline and King George s speech are the specific words used. Rhetoric, the
study of effective speaking and writing, is employed by many powerful politicians. In his
speech, Catiline begins by recognizing the virtus (courage) and fides (faith) of his followers in
order to draw them in and get them to listen to what he has to say. He cites them as the reason
why the opportune event, the election of consuls with war distracting those who would stop the
election of Catiline, had not occurred without reason. Furthermore he cites them as being
reliable and brave not ignavos homos which he purposely does to make his audience King George
also directly addresses his people by saying he wishes he could be with them because he has the
same depth of feeling for all of his subjects. This allows for King George s subjects to feel close
to him and like he truly cares about them. Catiline then moves to the tactic of fear as he
continues his speech. Unlike King George who only says the dreaded word war twice, Catiline uses
words such as dangers, trials, die, and submissive in order to give his audience a hint of what is to
come if they do not follow his plan. King George keeps his speech calm and aims to

Why We Need The 21st Century
Anyone studying need 21st century abilities to be fruitful. It s energizing to trust that we live in
times that are revolutionary to the point that they request new and diverse capacities. The
aptitudes understudies need in the 21st century are relevant today as they were 20 years ago.
Critical thinking has been a part of the human advancement all through history, from the
improvement of ahead of schedule devices, to horticultural headways, to the innovation of
antibodies, to land and ocean investigation. In different societies skills such as information
literacy and global awerness are not new. The Republic, Plato expounded on four unmistakable
levels of astuteness. Maybe at the time, these were viewed as third century BCE abilities ? What
s very is the degree to which changes in our economy and the world imply that aggregate and
individual achievement relies on upon having such abilities. A majority of the students in the U.S
are taught these aptitudes the individuals who are sufficiently blessed to go to very viable schools
or possibly experience extraordinary educators however it s a matter of chance as opposed to the
intentional outline of our educational system. Today we can t manage the cost of a framework in
which accepting a brilliant instruction is much the same as a round of bingo. On the off chance that
we are to have a more evenhanded and powerful government funded training framework, abilities

New Negro
The Harlem Renaissance from 1919 to 1930 s was a time for United States to rapidly change,
especially with the rise of the generation we refer to as African Americans today. It was an era of
literature, an era of slavery, and an era that made the biggest impact in the history of United States.
The term Negro refers to someone of the black race or black ancestry and it defines as black in
Spanish and Portuguese. African Americanscholar Alain Locke defines the New Negro as an
outspoken advocacy of dignity and refusal to the law of Jim Crow racial segregation. Locke

I agree with this statement because diversity is a huge part of United States and without it, I

Digital Technology Into The Learning Process Essay
Academia has been slow to incorporate digital technology into the learning process, and English
courses seem to lag behind most other subject areas. Even when trying, College professors are
challenged because post secondary students separate into different stratifications... according to
their previous academic, social, and professional experiences with computers experiences that, in
turn, are often dependent on age, class, race, and gender (Bancroft, 2016, p. 47). These
stratifications create Rainie s definition of the digital divide: the gap between those who access and
use computers and the internet and those who do not (Bancroft, 2016, p. 47). Many students can
access the internet or computers, but there is an additional expectations in collegiate education.
Writing centers regularly work with students who cannot confidently or successfully use technology
for academic purposes, which becomes a primary barrier to their academic success. Writing centers
need to actively attempt to reduce this divide through instruction, application, and adaptation to
help struggling students.
Recognizing the Divide
Literacy with technology takes on additional expectations when considering collegiate academics
which creates a digital divide. This digital divide exists in most colleges at multiple levels:

Analysis Of Webrtc Is A Free, Open Project That Enables...
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
WebRTC is a free, open project that enables web browsers with Real Time Communication
capabilities via the use of simple JavaScript APIs and HTML5. The WebRTC components have been
built to serve that purpose. It has been termed as a disruptive innovation that has replaced the
software installation or plug in functionality demanded by the old browsers. It can democratize and
decentralize tools required for content creation and communication like telephony, gaming, video
production, music making, news gathering and many other applications. It builds on the strength of
the web browser and abstracts signalling by offering a simple state machine that maps directly to
PeerConnection. This enables the web developers to choose their own signalling protocols for their
usage scenario. Ultimately, its flexibility and ability to download JavaScript will change the way
Real Time Communication happens in the future.
1. INTRODUCTION
Real Time Communications (RTCs) had a beginning with the dedicated Telephone networks before
they evolved to use the Internet with Telecom type Servers . The significant development that
happened to make the worlds of RTC and Web to meet was WebRTC which was the answer to
avoid the installation of plug ins into web browsers and build Real Time functions directly into the
browsers. [4]
WebRTC (Web Real Time Communication) is an Application Programming Interface (API)

Advantages Of Forensic Imaging
Forensic imaging, particularly MRI technology is crucial in determining the cause of death in
forensic pathology. There are a few main techniques for forensic imaging, magnetic resonance
imaging (MRI), post mortem computed tomography (PMCT), and conventional radiography. The
PMCT is generally used for gunshot wounds, detection of gas embolism, trauma cases, and
changes in the skeletal system. Some advantages of this technique are that it is fast, easy to handle,
good three dimensional reconstruction, excellent visuals of the skeletal system and gases in the
body. However, it is not without disadvantages like how it uses radiation meaning companies must
protect their employees, it has limited data storage, limited visualization of soft tissue and
employees must go through extensive training to be authorized to operate it. MRIs can be used for
trauma cases, strangulation, detection of foreign objects, and medical errors. Some advantages of
this technique are that there is no radiation involved, it is good at visualizing soft tissue, and that
since it can visualize soft tissue so easily it can identify a multitude of different problems. Some
disadvantages are that it is time consuming, expensive, and there is extensive training needed to
operate it. The last type of imaging technique that will be covered is conventional radiography
which can detect foreign bodies and changes or lesions of the skeletal system and is used when the
corpse cannot fit into the CT machine. The advantages of this technique are that it is... Show more

UNFCCC
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was opened for
signature in June 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development
(UNCED) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where it was signed by 155 States and the European Union
(EU), was then entered into force on 21 March 1994 having been approved by 193 States and the
EU as of January 2011. This Framework Convention on Climate Change acts as an alliance to
mediate disagreement involving many parties and lays the groundwork for successful agreements.
The fundamental goal of the UNFCCC is to minimise the concentration of greenhouse gases in the
atmosphere to an amount that avoids the threat of anthropogenic interference with the climate
system. As part of this goal the UNFCCC identifies the different economic, social and
environmental requirements of the parties and helps to keep the climate policies on the foundation
of justice in International Law. The Climate change policies also included national development
programmes and are not used as a process for unjustified judgment or restriction of international
trade.

Difference Between The Ratio And The Dividend Ratio
Probability Ratios
Garners Platoon Mental Health Care s ratios illustrate that it is more profitable than the average
in its industry (Cornett, Adair, Nofsinger, 2015). Its profit margin, BEP, ROE, and ROA are all
considerably higher than its industry figures. However, the dividend payout ratio is lower than
that of the industry which is not necessarily a bad thing because you typically want this number to
be lower than higher (Holt, n.d.). This indicates that the company is keeping more money than
paying out for future development or plans (Cornett et al., 2015). A lucrative company that keeps
its profits expands its level of equity capital as well as its own value (Cornett et al., 2015, p. 88).

Thus, it is producing fewer dollars of sales per dollar of inventory (Cornett et al., 2015). Garners
has to pay more in storage than its competitors since it is taking them longer to turn their inventory

Garners accounts receivable management ratios appear to be lower than its industry average which
is an indication of good management since it desires to receive payment sooner than the industry
average (Cornett, Adair, Nofsinger, 2015). The company could have too much control on its
crediting terms, and might look into decreasing its crediting procedure slightly; however, for the
most part, the company is doing well in collecting payments.
The average payment period is 40.9 days higher than the industry average, and its accounts payable
turnover is 2.59 times; therefore, providing that the company is paying its bills on time, Garners is
reducing opportunity costs due to its debt management (Cornett, Adair, Nofsinger, 2015).
Garners fixed asset ratio is .25 below the industry average which could indicate that management is
not using its assets to its fullest. However, since Garners total asset turnover ratio is slightly higher
than the industry average, this number shows that Garners management is using its assets accurately.

In Morte d Arthur, fantasy is used when a hand comes out of the water after Lancelot throws the
sword into the water. This is a fantasy because hands do not miraculously appear from the water.
Another fantasy is used in the story at the end when it says that King Arthur may or may not be
dead. This is a fantasy because King Arthur s son killed him when he hit Arthur in the head,
meaning that King Arthur is obviously dead. While in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight fantasy
is used because a person cannot be green, people are different shades of brown. Also, another
fantasy used in the story is when the Green Knight has his head blown off, but he still survives.
This is a fantasy because he should have died after Sir Gawain blew his head off.
However, there is a difference in the stories because, in Morte d Arthur, King Arthur dies. King
Arthur dies because his son and he are enemies. His son is after the power that he deserves as the
son of a king. So, he decides to kill King Arthur to have power, but he also dies along with Arthur.

Atherosclerosis is a major form of cardiovascular disease...
Atherosclerosis is a major form of cardiovascular disease which occurs through a processed
known as arteriosclerosis in which the arteries become clogged with plaque buildup overtime.
Formation of this plaque is due to the damage of endothelial cells (inner cells) that line the walls of
arteries. Damage of these cells is triggered by unhealthy practices or other conditions such as
smoking, lack of exercise, hypertension, diabetes or high cholesterol levels. As a result harmful
material such as fat, cholesterol, palettes and other material deposit themselves into the damaged
arterywall. These materials accumulate and form plaque which becomes covered with various cells
that try to repair the damaged wall. These cells encapsulate the plaque... Show more content on

Why Concealed Weapons Should be Allowed Essay
Everyone wants to feel safe and everyone has their opinion. When it comes to concealed weapons,
people have become very enchanted with the topic. They have joined groups that share their views
like the NRA (National Rifle Association), which supports concealed weapons or the Brady
Campaign which is against concealed weapons. When it comes down to it, there are just two
groups, one for concealed weapon and the other against it. These two groups have the same goal,
but each have a certain path that they would rather fallow. When searching for support one of the
groups may use facts to gain support for the path of action, while the other group may use emotional
events to gain support for their path. When thinking about it, one must not look... Show more

The people that are for concealed weapons feel that it is their right to carry. That it is a right
granted to them by the United States Constitution. That government should not be responsible
for protecting them at every turn. That it is their own right to protect themselves and their
family. They are independent and wish to be independent from the government. There is a small
percentage of the population that has a concealed weapons permit. In that small percentage
everyone is a law abiding citizen, except for a few here and there. They are a set of citizens hard
to tell apart in a crowd because of their normality. This meaning that they do not plan on doing
harm with their weapon. They respect the fact that having a concealed weapon is serious
business. They are willing to go through the tests and classes that one must go through to obtain
their permit. They know all the laws, which they must fallow, with that one could safely say that
a concealed weapon would be handled safely by this set of people. Many issues facing the
country today could be fixed with simple law. This law being the one that legalizes concealed
weapons. This law would help one protect himself, to lower crime, and to lower the occurrence
of mass shootings. In a world filled with crime, the ability to protect oneself and family is very
important. There will not always be a police officer or some form of law enforcement for

The Epidemic Of The Polio Virus
With a substantial amount of preventive healthcare advancements behind them, the American
medical community turned its attention to the deadly polio virus plaguing America. From 1937
to 1952, known cases of Americans contracting polio skyrocketed from ten thousand to a
staggering figure of roughly fifty seven thousand cases. Of those cases within that time period,
approximately one thousand five hundred deaths as a result of polio were recorded. In the year
1953, The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis provided the scientist Dr. Jonas Salk with
the tools necessary to research, and develop a working vaccine to combat the devastating polio
disease. After much trial and error, Dr. Salk was finally able to create what he felt was a successful
polio vaccination, and proceeded to conduct a field test. After resounding success, manufacturing
instructions for the Salk vaccine were sent to a series of scientific laboratories for immediate
production and administration to American children. The disaster that occurred next will forever be
known through American medical history as the Cutter Incident (named so after one of the labs
that administered the polio vaccine). This medical crisis sent shockwaves throughout America and
the medical community, and numerous lawsuits were filed against Cutter Laboratories, resulting in
fewer and fewer labs willing to accept contract work in developing vaccines.
Throughout the years, blame has been thrown at every party involved in the

Argumentative Essay On Homeless Youth
It was a beautiful sight for the students of Glenridge High this past weekend, as their outdoor
concert at Hartley Park was a huge success. Thousands of people in the community came out to
eat delicious food and listen to music while dozens of activities were taking place around the
park. The concert, all planned by the students, was held to raise money and awareness for
homeless youth in Canada. It took months of careful planning and serious dedication from the
hundreds of students from Glenridge high. The idea first popped in the head of 11th grader
Emily Ayres. We were doing a project about homeless youth in my Civics class and when I began
to research, I realized what a huge problem it was. She wanted to make the issue of homeless

Paul Laurence Dunbar And Maya Angelou Comparison
For each of us, freedom plays a very important role in this life. With me, I think there is nothing
which is greater than we are free to do what we want to do, dream what we want to dream or
simply, eat what we want to eat. We all worship freedom. I or Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya
Angelou do too. Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya Angelou expressed their freedom through their
poems which are Sympathy and Caged Bird in a very personal, dramatic and profound way.
Although we were published in two different times, I feel that these two poems also have harmonies
in ideas or the way the authors think about freedom in them. Besides, each of them contains their
own characteristics which make them have their own colors and meaning. During the civil rights
era, the racism, that horrible system that discriminates against people based on... Show more content

Maya Angelou and Paul Larence Dunbar were African American, who grew up in that era so
they experienced and felt the sadness and pain that Africa Americans when they became slaves
for White people received at that time. From the same feeling, the same inspiration, the poems
express their feeling when they used to face with that discrimination in their life every single
day. The poems also assert the importance of freedom and its value in life. Besides the
coincidence of the subject and circumstances of the birth of these two poems, there is another
interesting similiar thing is that the image of a bird which is trapped in a cage is used as a
metaphor to symbolize African Americans who suffered racial discrimination during this period. I
feel this is a very interesting metaphor. That same point also makes the poems special and have
very personal beauty , not to be confused with other poems. Birds are always associated as a
symbol of freedom. Everyone

Bobcat Population Research Paper
Hunting and Trapping Bobcats in New Hampshire
In 2010 the University of New Hampshire did a study and estimated about 1400 bobcats in the
state of New Hampshire. Since 2007 the population has been growing by approximately ten
percent each year (NH Fish and Game). As they breed the population will continue to increase and
this could cause problems. This could increase diseases and property damage. In order to control
New Hampshire s bobcat population fifty hunting and trapping permits should be issued. Bobcat
hunting and trapping was first restricted in 1989 when the bobcat population went down. The
decline was blamed on overharvesting, but it was actually because of the weather patterns. The

How the Russian Revolution Changed the Lives of People in Different Social Groups in Russian
Society The Russian Revolution was supposed to bring about change for the better and be a
fantastic new beginning for the troubled state of Russia. However, the concept of a revolution is
sometimes a lot more appealing than the actual results of a revolution. Revolutions never occur
without hurting a certain group of people, which goes without saying, but they also try to better
life for other groups. The Russian Revolution seemed to cause much pain and misery, but the
benefits from this revolution appeared to be few if any. Nobles, who once had incredible power

shows you the struggle Jurgis went through with money and it wasn t a fair life for him. When
Jurgis lost both Ona and his son Antanas he was begging and a drunk man gave him a 100
dollar bill, that next day he enters a bar to receive change but the bartender tells him he has to
buy a drink first, once he does the bartender only gives him 97 cents and refuses to give him his
change. Jurgis then gets in a fist fight with him but then is sent to Jail. Once he was a prison he
realized the life of crime was the best way to survive as an immigrant, then Jurgis finally loses his
hope of getting that American dream he always wanted. Jurgis had a good reason to feel like this
because he kept getting turned down by jobs and had nowhere to stay, he was homeless.
The tittle of the book was misleading because I thought it was going to be about nature, but once
you finish the book you realize it s about surviving in the wild . Survival in the United States isn t
easy especially when you are an immigrant. The author did achieve the books purpose because
once the book was published the FDA had a new law on sanitation. The writing the author used was
extremely effective because practically every chapter was about the struggles Jurgis is going

History And Development Of Nursing Education
Comparing Nursing Education in Ireland and China Lakeisha Alexander Florida International
University Introduction The countries that I have chosen to research are Ireland and China. I
chose Ireland because while I was in high school there was an opportunity to study abroad in the
country; I was unable to participate in the program but was curious about what receiving an
education there would be like. My opinion of nursing education in Ireland is that it s at a basic
level and not as advanced as the nursing education you would receive in the United States. The
other country that I have chosen to research is China and this is because I think that they are
advanced in technology and because of their advancement the nursing education should be more
progressive than in the United States. Ireland and China are two different countries that have gone
through tremendous strides to bring about a successful nursing education system. Political History

Chronic Chest Pain Research Paper
Chronic chest pain CAD is something that many people may experience at one point in life.
Chest pain may have stem from certain things; the most common is CAD. CAD or Coronary
artery disease is when the major blood vessels of the heart become hardened or narrowed with
damage or disease, like plaque or cholesterol containing deposits. As the wall is damaged plaque
and other materials begin to accumulate in that damaged area; as plaque breaks away the platelets
will try to repair the site, causing a blockage or narrowing of the artery.
When blood flow to the heart begins to decrease, the heart is deprived of oxygen rich blood. This
may end up causing chest pain/angina; it may simulate the feeling of an elephant standing on the
patient s chest. Chest pain can range from a dull ache, a crushing or burning feeling, or a sharp
stabbing pain; this pain may radiate down the neck or shoulder. CAD is thought to begin as early as
childhood, some contributing risk factors may include: smoking, high blood pressure, high
cholesterol, diabetes or insulin resistance, sedentary lifestyle, and genetic disposition. ... Show more

In order for society to exist and to continue to exist social order and uniformity are important
parts of making sure society doesn t fall to pieces. Rules, laws, regulations, and even morals and

created by society in order to obtain a social order. Without these things, a conflict will arise due to
failure on the part of a societies members. The conflict that isn t resolved could have the potential to

For the organic layer, we had a melting point range of 240 243В°C. For the IR spectra, we did
note the C Cl bond although there was not an OH bond present. ANALYSIS The reaction
involves a nucleophilic acyl substitution on an aldehyde, with the leaving group concurrently
attacking another aldehyde in the second step. First the Potassium hydroxide attacks a carbonyl,
which forms a tetahedral intermediate which then collapses when attacked by another
hydroxide. The carbonyl is formed again when its hydride attacks another carbonyl. In the final
step of the reaction, the acid and alkoxide ions formed exchange a proton. In the presence of a
very high concentration of base, the aldehyde first forms a doubly charged anion from which a
hydride ion is transferred to the second molecule of aldehyde to form carboxylate and alkoxide
ions. Subsequently, the alkoxide ion acquires a proton from the solvent. 4 chlorobenzoic acid

The Impact of Lowering the Drinking Age on State...
The legal drinking age in the United States will always be a point of contention. No one can
settle upon a drinking age that everyone is in agreement with; should it be 18 or 21? Ages 18
and 21 are the most popular options, yet neither one has 100% of the vote. With the current legal
drinking age in America standing at 21, meaning that people under the age of 21 cannot purchase
or consume alcoholic food or beverages, there is the question of whether or not to lower it to 18
or 19 years old. This paper will argue that the drinking age should be lowered, and examine its
impact on State University. Almost everyone has an opinion on what the drinking age should be.

The answer to these questions would greatly impact the future of campuses nationwide. The
State University campus is dry, meaning there is neither alcohol nor paraphernalia allowed on
the campus at any time regardless of age. In the same city, however, Christian Brothers
University is a wet campus that allows all students 21 and older to have alcohol in their dorms
and around campus. A major question that should be considered is how schools such as these two
would be affected in their policies if the drinking age were lowered. One side to this debate is that
the legal drinking age should be lowered from 21 to around 18 or 19 years old, and that young
adults should be allowed to drink in controlled environments. This idea is presented by Ruth Engs,
a professor of Applied Sciences at Indiana University. She states that environments such as taverns,
pubs, restaurants and official university functions can be considered to be controlled
environments. In these situations responsible drinking could be taught through role modeling and
educational programs. Mature and sensible drinking behavior would be expected (Engs). In her
article, Engs uses phrases such as forbidden fruit, and a badge of rebellion against authority to
describe how teens view drinking. In her opinion, if the drinking age were to be lowered, young
adults would no longer feel the pressure to drink in order to be cool.

By the turn of the century hundred of small companies were producing automobiles both in Europe and in America. By 2004, the industry was in different stages of its life cycle in different parts of the world. The US industry entered a period of rapid growth during 1910 28, and reached its peak of production in 1965. In the two decades up to 2004, car production was on a downward trend, but if trucks were included, output was broadly stable (see table 4.2). In Europe and Japan too, total production was showing a declining trend The problem of market saturation was exacerbated by the tendency for cars to last longer(see table 4.3). [Tables 4.2 and 4.3 about here] As a result, the automobile producers have looked increasingly to the newly industrializing countries for market opportunities. During the 1980s and 1990s countries such as Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Brazil, and Argentina offered the best growth prospects. As these markets became increasingly saturated, so China, India, and the former Soviet Union were seen as the В“ next waveВ” of attractive markets. With the opening of many of these countries to trade and direct investment, the world production of cars and trucks s continued to grow (see table 4.4 ). Many Criollos in New Spain began to read the works of the Enlightenment writers and then began to question the benefits and reasons for their colonial relationship with Spain. The Mexican colonists were also affected by the examples of the American Revolution and the French Revolution. All of the aforementioned factors contributed to the independence movement of Mexico. However, the main steps towards independence came because of Napoleon s invasion of Spain in 1808. The monarchy was greatly weakened when Napoleon gave the crown to his brother causing the people of Madrid to revolt. With Spain s back turned, the leaders of New Spain began to argue amongst themselves. The viceroy was forced to allow the Criollos to participate in administration. Then, a group of Peninsulares, those who had been placed in many of the administrative positions, did not like that the Criollos were gaining any influence in the government. They staged a coup d etat and overthrew the viceregal government. Shortly before dawn on September 16, 1810, Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla made a monumentous decision that revolutionized the course of Mexican history. Within hours, Hidalgo, a Catholic priest in the village of Dolores, ordered the arrest of Dolores native Spaniards. She sits calmly down: There stood, facing an open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair. (Chopin 65) Mrs. Mallard in turn shows us that the word comfort is used to imply a different reaction than we would expect normally from losing a loved one. Discovering when she looks out the window she views life in a different way. Mrs. Mallard starts studying the nature outside the window: The delicious breath of rain was in the air. • 10. Pathos Ethos In Bowling For Columbine The 2002 film Bowling for Columbine is a documentary written, directed, and narrated by Michael Moore. Moore has won numerous awards including the Academy Award for best documentary feature. The film explores acts of violence with guns and the primary causes for the Columbine School Massacre, where two students shot and killed thirteen people and injured twenty one others. Bowling for Columbinetakes a deep and often disturbing probe into what the motives may have been for the shooters and investigates other gun related issues along the way. Moore explores different aspects of gun culture such as receiving free guns from a bank, taking a look at America s violent history, and interviewing important people like Charlton Heston, former president of the National Rifle Association. The film ultimately comes to the conclusion that the American culture of fear along with the accessibility of guns is the reason why there are so many gun related deaths. This thesis is supported by many examples Ethos, Logos, and Pathos evidence. Ethos is when the author uses the reputation, credibility, experience, and values of the author or an expert as a means of persuasion. Moore himself is a renowned documentary maker and he ensures that his film is factually true. However, at times he manipulates facts and other people to suit his needs. For example, in the beginning of the film he is seen opening an account at a bank where customers that open an account receive a free gun. Moore himself ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most take for granted the Bible they have and never question how it came into being. Today, we have 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 books of the New Testament. There was a time, however, that we did not have a canon. Bruce defines canon as books of the Biblethat were recognized to be considered scripture (p. 17). The importance of the canon and how it was developed was intriguing to professor and author F.F. Bruce. The rest of the section demonstrates the Church Fathers and their views of what was to be considered scripture and the councils that affirmed the inspired scripture. Bruce concludes by explaining the criteria used for writings to be considered canon. He goes into more depth on the inspiration of the scriptures an integral part of how the canon came together. The close of the book is appended by two lectures that explore the secret gospel of Mark and the Primary Sense and Plenary Sense of scripture. Bruce offers a solid explanation of the formation of the canon chronologically starting with the Hebrew scriptures (p. 21) until the 4th century where church councils started to present the first spoken finished canon (p. 97). Bruce shows the importance of the Old Testament scriptures, but writes most about the New Testament. There were many trigger points that led her to become a writer, they were moving back to New Zealand, her brother s deathin World War 1, and her sensations with how women were treated. Her stories were described as blurred edges of personality, the poetry of feelingand the expansiveness of the interior life. In both The Bite of the Mango and A Long Way Gone, main characters Mariatu and Ishmael are forced to mature at an extreme pace by going through several, very different experiences caused by the same war. In the majority of The Bite of the Mango, Mariatu is at the young age of fourteen, but before then, she is just twelve years old, living in Sierra Leone with her family. When talk about the war begins to spread throughout her town, the citizens begin a practice put in place in case of a raid by the rebels. The first time it happened, we abandoned our homes and took nothing with us, hiding in the bush for several days as we listened to our stomachs moan in hunger (Kamara and McClelland 19). During these drills, they would hear word spread about rebels nearby, then pack some things in a bag, leave their homes and hide in bushes for days on end, sometimes starving themselves for fear of coming out and being raided by the rebels. However, her childhood is ripped away from her abruptly when she is raped by a close family friend. This is when she faces her first traumatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Coming Of Age Throughout Mississippi By Anne Moody Coming of Age in Mississippi Essay Fredric Stanley HIST 3881 Professor James Conway 7 November 2015 Though we Americans, in all of our efforts, feel as if the day of racism is coming to an end, I feel it is merely evolving into a much more subtle approach. Seeing life through the words of Anne Moody in her book entitled, Coming of Age in Mississippi , shows that racism, even back then, is treated with remedies versus a cure. After the many anti discrimination legislations passed as well as activist groups shedding light on all of the significant differences and injustices that African Americans face, one would think that by now racism would be far behind us here in America. Emmet Till was killed by a group of white men for merely whistling and showing interest in a white woman. Anne was surprised at how unaware she was to the things happening around her. I don t remember if anyone was murdered, but back when I was in high school it was almost as if whites viewed it to be cardinal sin for an African Americanmale to be with a white woman. This too was a time where I saw the true reality of what it was to be an African American versus a White American. Anne s mother informed her to continue throughout life as if nothing happened but understandably she couldn t. While working Anne could not focus and her rage began to display. Mrs. Burke made an attempt to talk to Anne concerning Emmet Till s death but Anne acted as if she didn t know what Mrs. Burke was speaking of. Mrs. Burke told her that that is what happens when black people step out of place with whites. It was at that point Anne began to fear for her life now learning the true outlook of being an African American. I see on a daily basis where African Americans accept injustice and move on with life as if it doesn t matter. Instead of standing in the gap for what could very well hit home African Americans tend to turn a blind eye to the corruption and cruelty we face. For starters, it is a necessary preparation for literature review that is to say, after searching for existing knowledge, we may have a deeper insight into research we are going to conduct. Additionally, it is an appropriate approach to update knowledge and identify a quite narrow gap for further investigation. Literature searching process can be divided into 6 steps separately: choosing keywords, planning strategy, selecting database, running search, evaluating results and saving references. Their sheer persuasion through their rhetoric is the key instrument for this support. A key part of both Catiline and King George s speech are the specific words used. Rhetoric, the study of effective speaking and writing, is employed by many powerful politicians. In his speech, Catiline begins by recognizing the virtus (courage) and fides (faith) of his followers in order to draw them in and get them to listen to what he has to say. He cites them as the reason why the opportune event, the election of consuls with war distracting those who would stop the election of Catiline, had not occurred without reason. There are a few main techniques for forensic imaging, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), post mortem computed tomography (PMCT), and conventional radiography. The PMCT is generally used for gunshot wounds, detection of gas embolism, trauma cases, and changes in the skeletal system. Some advantages of this technique are that it is fast, easy to handle, good three dimensional reconstruction, excellent visuals of the skeletal system and gases in the body. However, it is not without disadvantages like how it uses radiation meaning companies must protect their employees, it has limited data storage, limited visualization of soft tissue and employees must go through extensive training to be authorized to operate it. MRIs can be used for trauma cases, strangulation, detection of foreign objects, and medical errors. Some advantages of this technique are that there is no radiation involved, it is good at visualizing soft tissue, and that since it can visualize soft tissue so easily it can identify a multitude of different problems. Some disadvantages are that it is time consuming, expensive, and there is extensive training needed to operate it. This is a fantasy because King Arthur s son killed him when he hit Arthur in the head, meaning that King Arthur is obviously dead. While in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight fantasy is used because a person cannot be green, people are different shades of brown. Also, another fantasy used in the story is when the Green Knight has his head blown off, but he still survives. This is a fantasy because he should have died after Sir Gawain blew his head off. However, there is a difference in the stories because, in Morte d Arthur, King Arthur dies. King Arthur dies because his son and he are enemies. His son is after the power that he deserves as the son of a king. So, he decides to kill King Arthur to have power, but he also dies along with Arthur. The Epidemic Of The Polio Virus With a substantial amount of preventive healthcare advancements behind them, the American medical community turned its attention to the deadly polio virus plaguing America. From 1937 to 1952, known cases of Americans contracting polio skyrocketed from ten thousand to a staggering figure of roughly fifty seven thousand cases. Of those cases within that time period, approximately one thousand five hundred deaths as a result of polio were recorded. In the year 1953, The National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis provided the scientist Dr. Jonas Salk with the tools necessary to research, and develop a working vaccine to combat the devastating polio disease. After much trial and error, Dr. Salk was finally able to create what he felt was a successful polio vaccination, and proceeded to conduct a field test. After resounding success, manufacturing instructions for the Salk vaccine were sent to a series of scientific laboratories for immediate production and administration to American children. The disaster that occurred next will forever be known through American medical history as the Cutter Incident (named so after one of the labs that administered the polio vaccine). This medical crisis sent shockwaves throughout America and the medical community, and numerous lawsuits were filed against Cutter Laboratories, resulting in fewer and fewer labs willing to accept contract work in developing vaccines. Chest pain may have stem from certain things; the most common is CAD. CAD or Coronary artery disease is when the major blood vessels of the heart become hardened or narrowed with damage or disease, like plaque or cholesterol containing deposits. As the wall is damaged plaque and other materials begin to accumulate in that damaged area; as plaque breaks away the platelets will try to repair the site, causing a blockage or narrowing of the artery. When blood flow to the heart begins to decrease, the heart is deprived of oxygen rich blood. This may end up causing chest pain/angina; it may simulate the feeling of an elephant standing on the patient s chest. Chest pain can range from a dull ache, a crushing or burning feeling, or a sharp stabbing pain; this pain may radiate down the neck or shoulder. ANALYSIS The reaction involves a nucleophilic acyl substitution on an aldehyde, with the leaving group concurrently attacking another aldehyde in the second step. First the Potassium hydroxide attacks a carbonyl, which forms a tetahedral intermediate which then collapses when attacked by another hydroxide. The carbonyl is formed again when its hydride attacks another carbonyl. In the final step of the reaction, the acid and alkoxide ions formed exchange a proton. In the presence of a very high concentration of base, the aldehyde first forms a doubly charged anion from which a hydride ion is transferred to the second molecule of aldehyde to form carboxylate and alkoxide ions.
