There are many trustees!
The trustee picture
• 43.4% of trustees are female, and 56% are male
• The average age of a trustee is 57
• Just 0.5% of trustees in England and Wales are
aged between 18 and 24, (compared with 12% of
the population as a whole);
• 85% who were added to our Register last year
were not currently trustees of other charities, and
hadn’t been in last 3 years
It’s been a tough summer for charities

• regulating in a fair, proportionate, accountable way
• intervening effectively and quickly when required
• respecting charities’ independence

• Less requirements placed on smaller charities are
than larger charities
• Most failures on the part of trustees are basic
mistakes, not complex issues
