The Direct method was developed
by Maximilian Berlitz. The direct
method is named direct because
this method never uses translation
of the words to the native lan-
guage if you teach English with
the direct method you do it in
English. A language can best
taught by using it actively in the
class room.
 Never translate: demonstrate.
 Basıc vocabulary ıs gıven
fırst.
 Do not gıve rules.
 Oral transmıssıon.
 Learnıng by self-correctıon.
 Contextual/topıcal teachıng.
 Not formal but natural use.
 Not memorization but
productıon.
 Communıcatıon-fırst
prıncıple.
CHARACTERISTICS
 Classroom instruction was conduct-
ed exclusively in the target lan-
guage.
 Modelan and practice.
 Concrete vocabulary was taught
through demonstration, objects, and
pictures.
