Everything happens so fast… … or does it?
Semantic web Information structures that have *meaning* Relationships between pieces of information Built on agreed upon syntaxes so that everything can work together and make us work less!
WHAT THE SEMANTIC WEB LOOKS LIKE
Is this how you feel:-0
It is the future of the internet And the Semantic Web is driven by STANDARDS: .. Such as SCORM (shareable content object reference model (created by the ADL) that tells us how: √ Content can be aggregated (and dis-aggregated) (Content Aggregation Model) √ Content is launched and learner progress is tracked (Run Time Enviornment) √ Content is sequenced and navigated.
SCORM is used in Learning Objects… … . “any digital resource that can be reused to mediate learning”
Learning objects have actions: Repurpose Use a digital learning resource in a new way or context Reuse Use a digital learning resource in a new context or setting Also used to mean repurpose Adopt Use a digital learning resource without changing it Adapt Modify a digital learning resource for reuse Interoperate Plug and play Properly exchange data or information
A learning object can be… An image A document An online course A simulation A virtual world
Learning objects can be generated by learners… .. who learn in a community of practice (CoP)
CoPs are … “… a process of social learning that occurs when people who have a common interest in some subject or problem collaborate over an extended period to share ideas, find solutions, and build innovations.”
CoPs can be virtual, e.g… Engineering CoPs OpenCourse eduspaces
These ideas illustrate the shift From Return on investment To Value of investment How?
Time for your activity… You will go to chat rooms 1 or 2; at least two people in each room, no more than 3. No more than 4 people in a room Each room will discuss one of the trends we had discussed tonight (room + trend in two slides) Discuss and be prepared to explain (next slide)….
Where did this trend come from? What was it’s precedent? Give at least two pieces of evidence, e.g. software, policy, hardware, human activity, etc. If you have personal experience with the trend, what is it? Where do you see evidence of this trend today? How might one of these trends relate to your topic?
Literature review Post topic description to Topic Discussion Start working on mini-literature review This is an ONGOING project! Look for research!
Next week: Post topic Work in Learning Teams on Why Trends are not adopted in your Group Workplace discussion area. Attend June 16 chat Check grades Making more sense?
