2. Our idea… Teaser trailer with poster and film magazine cover. Disaster film, centred around a series of earthquakes. “Earthquake swarms are sequences of earthquakes striking in a specific area within a short period of time. They are different from earthquakes followed by a series of aftershocks by the fact that no single earthquake in the sequence is obviously the main shock, therefore none have notable higher magnitudes than the other.” Natural disasters – scary because they are truly unpredictable. Two main characters are a married couple on the brink of separation.

4. Target audience Disaster films - usually have a mass audience. SFX and action sequences – appeal to men. Relationships of characters – appeal to women. Men and women over 15.

5. Possible Institutions Warner Bros. – Twister, 10,000 BC. Columbia – The Day After Tomorrow Paramount – Deep Impact. Touchstone – Armageddon. Roland Emmerich – writer/director of The Day After Tomorrow, 2012 and 10,000 BC.

6. Main characters Ben & Olivia Turner. Have been married for 7 years, live in the suburbs of a large city. No children. She is a primary school teacher. Enjoys art and relaxed acoustic music. Wants children, desperately. He works in an office. Enjoys running, cars and loud rock music. They married at 21 when she was pregnant, but she miscarried. Are in love, but their marriage has been rocky for the past few months. During the gradually worsening earthquakes, feel guilty about the secrets they’ve kept from each other, and so they find themselves telling the truth.

8. Set up of trailer. Home video of Ben walking in on Olivia trying on her wedding dress. She’s jokingly shouting about how it’s “bad luck” but they do laugh and smile. With these shots we tie in black outs featuring sentences like “This Summer….The cracks are beginning to show…” which has a double meaning. An argument between them in the present day overlaps and contrasts the happy scene we see. “You only married me because I was pregnant. You’ve regretted it ever since…” “You’ve shut me out ever since we lost the baby. I was just as upset as you…” They’re sleeping in separate beds, and this is when the earthquakes begin. We see shots of various significant objects in the house falling and breaking, such as a vase of flowers. They both wake up, and we see a wedding photo fall and break, which is where we bring up the main tagline “When your world is falling apart, how do you keep it together?” and the title of the film with the release date. 13. Our inspiration for our magazine cover Ben and Olivia stood with their arms around each other, looking scared. They’d look bruised, battered and have lots of dirt and dust on them. We decided to call our magazine ‘Silver Screen’ which specializes in big blockbuster films. It also has features from the sets of films and has “making-of” articles, so would have interviews with producers, directors, writers and SFX crew as well as actors.
