Fat Tax On Junk Food
The idea of implementing Fat Tax on junk food in the U.S. has been in the works for quite some
time. California is first in the nation to implement the fat tax . This tax will be applied to any
items containing more than 2.3% saturated fat, including, dairy products such as cheese and
milk, processed foods, pizza, soda, and candy. The purpose of such a tax is to deter consumers
from purchasing these unhealthy foods and lower the obesity rate. According to Ogden, Carroll,
Kit and Flegal (2014), prevalence of obesity in the United States is high, with one third of adults
and 17% of children obese ( Prevalence of Childhood Obesity in the United States , 2014).The
number of obese children is alarming, albeit, significant measures have been taken in schools to
provide healthier meals. Unfortunately, there is little guidance when it comes to food choices at
home. Fat tax on junk food will provide consumers with the guidance and encouragement needed
to make healthier food choices. There is much controversy when it comes to these taxes and
many oppose same. Steven Kurlander, an attorney and blogger for the Huffington Post, is clearly
not in favor of implementing fat taxes and refers to these taxes as really nothing more than taxes

The way people look at gender has changed quickly over the past few years. Gender has always
been a social topic on what boys should do and what girls should do. The new generation of young

Annotation
This article published in The Clearing House: A Journal of Education Strategies, Issues and Ideas
presents the results of a one year qualitative investigation of three participants entering the teaching
profession through an alternative certification program in a major city in the Pacific Northwest.
The researcher collected the data through bimonthly interviews and classroom observations. The
results of the study revealed participants struggled with the education culture including
expectations. The article includes tables of the bi monthly and final interview questions, but does
not include the responses. However, participants disillusion to enact changes, as in other
professions, is evident in brief quotes. Moreover, the authors did not provide the specifics of the
participant s desired changes. A recommendation for future research is to compare culture
perceptions of those transitioning to teaching from other careers to immigrant teachers, and
expanded the study to include more than three participants. All of the authors are professors at
Boise State University.

According to Jonathan Brennan, professor of English at Mission College, through A Different
Mirror and the history of these people that helped shape American history, students can have a
more accurate understanding of who they are and where they have come from. First and
foremost, there are two particular chapters in this book that have greatly helped me in reaching
these goals of a college curriculum. For instance, in chapter nine, called The Indian Question ,
Takaki addresses the terrifying acts that were placed upon the Indians. After reading this very
unfamiliar and uncomfortable chapter, it has, in reality, greatly changed my thinking patterns.
For example, I became completely shocked and horrified of all the cruelties that many different
races did to each other, for they would brutally and mercilessly kill women, children, and even
babies. One of the Indians who was in the midst of the chaos and catastrophe said, My son who
was two years old was shot in the mouth that later caused his death (Takaki 230). As a result, I
became very skeptical on what the English at that time were trying to accomplish, for they actually
caused great harm and distress. I also was in the process of critical thinking because I just could not
comprehend why the English took these bizarre and horrendous actions. I thought to

skateboards share four wheels and a deck, they are both very different because they both have their
