1. Chicane featuring Natasha Bedingfield – Bruised Water
By Rachel, Grace and Jasmine
Song Background
‘Bruised water’ is a song by Chicane, it is a combination of Natasha Bedingfield’s song ‘I Bruise Easily’ a song by Chicane ‘Saltwater’, the combination of both of these songs were released on the 25th of August 2008. The original music video has a man carrying a woman who is a mermaid across a town and asking the townspeople to help him and provide water for her. The initial song ‘Saltwater’ is from Chicane’s album ‘Behind the Sun’ and was 10:03 minutes long with vocals from Máire Brennan, while Natasha Bedingfield’s ‘I Bruise Easily’ is from her album ‘Unwritten’, with a duration of 4:14. The result of the combination of these songs produced ‘Bruised water’, both the song and the title were a equal combination between each artist’s song, there have been eight remixes of this song, however we have chosen the original to make a music video for.
The Music Video
Our Music video is going to be based around a story narrative, the storyline will be performance based with different characters who have a storyline each, before they all come together at the end. We plan to shoot our footage around various areas, having a changing environment would relate to having different characters. Our video will be intriguing as once the audience watch the first minute of the video they will continue to watch to see how the storyline develops and ends. We will be using a variety of shots and shot paces to relate to the changing pace of the song we have chosen.
Costume Ideas
For our costume we plan to have each character wearing dresses made from wrapping muslin, and tea staining the fabric to look old and worn. Our ideas for make up include painting out bodies pale colours of purple, blue and red to look bruised and scarred (to relate to the song’s lyrics). We plan to paint our faces to look bruised, matching the colours of the bodies, additionally we plan to make our eyelids look like eyes, creating a memorable aspect to our video. We plan to keep out costume consistent throughout the video, using bright and glow in the dark paints as the only bright colours. We are additionally considering using coloured contact lenses to make our eyes stand out.
Shooting Location
We will be shooting our video at Trimdon, using the forest; beach and other surrounding isolated areas, we will shoot our video during different times of day so the light reflects time and mood changing in the video, for natural light while shooting the video we will use clusters of tea lights in glass holders and jars.
