Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
3. Final Idea Video
- We have chosen to create a music video for XXYYXX’s song
‘Breeze’, which is on his album. We chose this song as in a
group we all enjoyed the song, and felt it had a strong beat
which would make it easier for us to edit with later on in
production.
- We intend our music video to follow the narrative on an
attractive girl walking through a forest, whilst under the
influence of drugs. People in masks, will then start to appear in
the forest with her, and they will chase her- which links to the
lyrics of ‘runaway’. He people in masks are made to look very
mysterious and spooky, and as an illusion to whether they are
just an a illusion of her drugged up state.
4. Final Idea Digipak
We plan on our digipak to have a variety of different images and colours.
We are hoping for the digipak to look professional, and to fit in with the
genre of chillwave, so I did lots of research to make sure we were able to
do this. We are going to have a track list on the very back of our cd,
informing the buyer which singles are on the album. We are also going
to use repetition on the logo of XXYYXX which gives the idea of brand
identity, it also forms a easy association with the audience as they will
recognise the logo as being XXYYXX’s. As all the images on the digipak
have to be images that we have taken as we cannot have a picture of
XXYYXX the artist himself like we had hoped. However, instead we will
cover the pages with pictures/screen shots from our music video. This is
a sort of synergy, as we are combining the music video with the music
dikipak, creating a link that is easily recognisable.
5. Locations
These location shots are all in a natural environment, of a forest of some kind. Our
music video is also going to be in a forest and we know which forest we are going to
film it in, so I don’t think there will be much variation to this idea. The use of the
nature, reinforces a key theme in our music video of the two worlds: nature and
manmadeand the conflict.
6. Actors
This is the actor we plan on filming for our music video. She is an attractive female which is
what we planned on. She also fits in to the genre of our music video, of a hipster, indvidual
looking girl.
