The document analyzes Ellie Goulding's music video for "Your Song" and discusses elements that could be incorporated into the creator's own music video. It notes that Goulding's video has a simple, informal feel by using shaky, home video-style camera work in outdoor settings. While she sings, the video uses more polished, edited shots. It also includes everyday locations, nature scenes, and props to make the video seem down-to-earth and relatable. The creator intends to similarly feature natural scenery, buildings, and everyday items to give their video a natural, homemade vibe.

ELLIE GOULDING YOUR SONG VIDEO

Ellie Goulding is an individual artist who belongs to the pop genre and has a variety of music videos.
The video I have chosen today is Your Song, her cover of the original by Elton John. The video is very
simplistic and features the artist and a companion at times; making what seems to be a home video
of them having a day out. The video is entirely informal shown by the costume choices and settings.
This beginning shot to the video shows the artist and what appears to be a friend with her in a park/
forest setting. The camera is grainy and comes across as being held unsteadily giving the impression
of a home video. This is an aspect I would like to use in my own music video, giving it an informal
and simple feel.
The video does switch to showing more edited and professional camera shots when the artist is
seen actually singings, giving the video the performance feel. Below is a more highly edited shot
2. showing the artist performing the actual song. I will be using shots of my artist singing in my final
product but whether I will use high editing on the camera is undecided yet.
The video also includes pictures of locations and settings.
This makes the video seem more real life showing scenes featuring everyday, suburban houses and
buildings. I will definitely be including shots of buildings and scenery in my video to help set the
scene for the audience and to keep the video more down to earth.
3. Nature plays a big part in this video.
Scenes including wildlife and natural features like waterfalls and plants are very predominant
throughout the piece. Again this helps to keep the setting more informal and even more personal to
the artist giving an insight into her “natural” side, and also the kitten she is playing with could be a
feature from her everyday life she is sharing with audiences. I will be using natural scenes in my
music video to keep it having a natural “home video” feel.
4. Close up shots are used to highlight certain props used, for example a train ticket. With a train being
a very regular mode of public transport that everybody uses, it again makes the audience feel more
comfortable and familiar with what is going on. I will be emphasising props like this in my video to
make it all more relatable to the audience.
