This study examined the effects of homeopathically prepared thyroxin solutions on metamorphosis in highland frogs. Homeopathic dilutions of thyroxin (10-11 to 10-21) were administered to tadpoles every 8 hours from the two-legged stage. The number of frogs that reached the four-legged stage was counted at regular intervals and compared to a control group given similarly prepared water. Frogs exposed to the thyroxin dilutions metamorphosed more slowly than controls, with 2-13.5% fewer reaching the four-legged stage at measurement points. determined at 30, 40, and 50°C. The isotherms were determined by a static gravimetric method for
various temperature and humidity conditions. Five mathematical models were used to fit
the experimental data. A nonlinear least-squares regression program was used to evaluate the constants
of the five desorption and adsorption isotherm models GAB and Modified Halsey models were adequate
to describe the sorption characteristics of the samples. Isosteric heats of desorption and adsorption were
calculated by applying the Clausius-Clapeyron equation to the sorption isotherms at different
temperatures. It decreased with increasing moisture content. We recognized the linear relation exists
between the enthalpy and entropy of the sorption reaction

Abstract— A novel ultra-performance liquid chromatography‒mass spectrometry (UPLC‒MS) method was developed for the determination of herbicide atrazine (ATR) and its principal metabolites namely deisopropylatrazine (DIA), deethylatrazine (DEA) and hydroxyatrazine (HA) in soils. The limit of detection ranged from 0.06 μg kg‒1 (DEA) to 0.25 μg kg‒1 (HA). Recoveries for the four target analytes at three spiked levels ranged from 73.2 to 110% with relative standard deviation of 5.1‒8.1%. In the cases of the three control soil samples spiked with ATR were treated for 60d, the sum content of the three degraded products is 3, 6.4, and 6.8 times greater than ATR residue, respectively. Analyzing 80 soil samples from four counties evaluated this method. ATR of 1.1‒125 μg kg‒1 in 80 of 80 samples, ATR of 0.5‒7.8 μg kg‒1 in 39 of 80 samples, and DIA of 0.5 and 0.6 μg kg‒1 in 2 of 80 samples were found. The proposed method can ensure the rapid and highly sensitive analysis of atrazine and its degradation products in soil, and can provide a direction for proper application of atrazine and a base for evaluating their hazards to the environment.

Abstract
Objective(s):
Nanosilver is one of the most widely used nanomaterials due to its strong antimicrobial activity. Thus, because of increasing potential for exposure of human to nanosilver, there is an increasing concern about possible side effects of these nanoparticles. In this study, we tested the potential dermal toxicity of nanosilver bandage on serum chemical biomarkers in mice.
Materials and Methods:
In this study, 20 male BALB/c mice were randomly allocated into the treatment and control groups (n=10). After general anesthesia and shaving the back of all animals in near the vertebral column, in the nanosilver group, a volume of 50μl of 10 μg/ml of nanosilver solution (40 nm), and in the control group the same amount of distilled water was added to the sterile bandage of mice, then the bandages were fixed on the skin surface with cloth glue. After 3 and 7 days, the bandages were opened and serum levels of blood urea
nitrogen (BUN), creatinine (Cr), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were measured by using standard kits for two groups of mice.
Results:
In treatment group, a significant increase in ALT, AST and BUN levels were observed compared with control group during experiment periods (p<0.05),>0.05).
Conclusion:
The present results indicated that the dermal absorption of 10 μg/ml nanosilver (40 nm) can lead to hepatotoxicity and renal toxicity in mice.
Towards Predictable Transmembrane Transport: QSAR Analysis of the Anion Bindi...Philip Gale
The transport of anions across biological membranes by small molecules is a growing research field due to the potential therapeutic benefits of these compounds. However, little is known about the exact mechanism by which these drug-like molecules work and which molecular features make a good transporter. An extended series of 1-hexyl-3-phenylthioureas were synthesized, fully characterized (NMR, mass spectrometry, IR and single crystal diffraction) and their anion binding and anion transport properties were assessed using 1H NMR titration techniques and a variety of vesicle-based experiments. Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analysis revealed that the anion binding abilities of the mono-thioureas are dominated by the (hydrogen bond) acidity of the thiourea NH function. Furthermore, mathematical models show that the experimental transmembrane anion transport ability is mainly dependent on the lipophilicity of the transporter (partitioning into the membrane), but smaller contributions of molecular size (diffusion) and hydrogen bond acidity (anion binding) were also present. Finally, we provide the first step towards predictable anion transport by employing the QSAR equations to estimate the transmembrane transport ability of four new compounds.

reveal that there was a long term accumulation of
rifampicin nanospheres in the lungs over other
organs. The increase in Cmax values confirmed that
inhalable PLGA nanospheres are suitable for
targeting and providing sustained release of antitubercular
drugs to lungs. So inhalation is a
selected administration route of Rifampicin PLGA
nanospheres. The in vivo screening of M.
tuberculosis showed good activity as well as its
activity against multidrug-resistant M. tuberculosis
and against M. tuberculosis isolates in a
potentially latent state, makes Rifampicin PLGA
nanospheres as an attractive drug dosage form
for the therapy of tuberculosis. It can be concluded
that there is a significant potential for effective
oral delivery as well as nasal delivery of the

Effects of renewal pattern of recycled nutrient solution on the ion balance i...gugabione
Ion imbalance in recycled nutrient solutions is caused by selective ion uptake of plants, which occurs at different
rates in different growth stages. The objectives of this study were to investigate the ion balances in both recycled nutrient
solutions and rockwool media using different renewal patterns for the nutrient solutions, and to analyze the subsequent effects
on uptake of water and nutrients. Over 12 weeks of paprika cultivation, two different renewal patterns (week units) of 6-4-2
and 8-2-2 weeks were compared with a constant renewal pattern of 4-4-4 weeks (control). The nutrient solution in the reservoir
tank was constantly maintained at EC 2.5 dS・m
-1
and pH 5.5-6.5. The changes in the ion balance with the 4-4-4 week pattern
were smaller than those with the other treatments. In the early growth stage, however, the ion balances similarly changed
among all treatments. Greater changes were subsequently observed for the 6-4-2 week pattern. Although fruit yield and shoot
fresh weight of paprika were the lowest with 6-4-2 renewal pattern, no significant differences were observed. Our results indicate
that renewal intervals can be extended in consideration of growth stage for more efficient and practical operations in closed
soilless cultures.
Comparison of the Hypazotemic Effects of Erythropoietin and U-74389G on Urea ...asclepiuspdfs
Aim: This study calculated the hypazotemic capacities of two drugs as follows: The erythropoietin (Epo) and the antioxidant drug U-74389G. The calculation was based on the results of two preliminary studies, each one of which estimated the hypazotemic influence, after the respective drug usage in an induced hypoxia-reoxygenation animal experiment. Materials and Methods: The two main experimental endpoints at which the blood urea levels were evaluated the 60th reoxygenation min (for the groups A, C, and E) and the 120th reoxygenation min (for the groups B, D, and F). Especially, the groups A and B were processed without drugs, groups C and D after Epo administration whereas groups E and F after U-74389G administration. Results: The first preliminary study of Epo presented a nonsignificant hypazotemic effect by 1.25% ± 1.67% (P = 0.4430). The second preliminary study of U-74389G presented a significant hypazotemic effect by 5.81% ± 1.57% (P = 0.0005). These two studies were co-evaluated since they came from the same experimental setting. The outcome of the co-evaluation was that U-74389G has 4.632148-fold more hypazotemic potency than Epo (P = 0.0000). Conclusions: The antioxidant capacities of U-74389G enhance the acute hypazotemic properties presenting 4.632148-fold more intensive hypazotemia than Epo (P = 0.0000).

Anti-inflammatory activity of pupalia lappacea L. Jusspharmaindexing
Pupalia lappacea (L) Juss is an erect shrub used in folklore medicine to treat bone fractures and in inflammatory conditions. Methanolic extract of aerial parts shown is claimed in traditional medicine that the leaves of the plant are used in the treatment of inflammation. In the present study, the methanolic extract of Pupalia lappacea was screened for its anti-inflammatory activity using carageenan induced rat paw edema egg white induced paw oedema models. The methanolic extract at the dose of 200 mg/kg p.o exhibited significant anti-inflammatory activity in carrageenan induced paw edema model (p<0.01). In egg white induced model, methanolic extract at the dose of 200 mg/kg inhibited paw oedema significantly (p<0.01) indicating that both test samples inhibit the increase in number of fibroblasts and synthesis of collagen and mucopolysaccharides during prostaglandin formation during the inflammation. These experimental results have established a pharmacological evidence for the folklore claim of the drug to be used as an anti inflammatory agent. HPTLC analysis of the extract shows the presence of gallic acid 1.24mg/ml, ferulic acid 2.00mg/ml, chlorogenic acid 46.25mg/ml and rutin 7.02mg/ml of the extract which were responsible for the claimed anti-inflammatory action in the animal models studied.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). the first application) on metamorphosis in highland Rana temporaria from the two-legged stage
was studied. In accordance with the homeopathic idea of effects of specially prepared dilutions
being inverse to those of their mother substances, animals were treated either with thyroxin
10–11
– 10–21
or analogously prepared blank solution (water). Development was monitored by
documenting the number of animals that had entered the four-legged stage. It has been found
that animals treated with the thyroxin solutions metamorphosed more slowly than the control
animals, i.e., the effect of the homeopathically prepared thyroxin was opposed to the usual
effect of molecular thyroxin. The number of test animals that reached the four-legged stage at
defined points in time was smaller (2–13.5%) in the group treated with homeopathically
prepared thyroxin at the points in time, compared to control. The results in this study sustain
the previous multiresearcher findings that show that diluted homeopathically prepared thyroxin
is able to slow down metamorphosis of R. temporaria.

INTRODUCTION
Previous experiments performed in five independent laboratories in Austria and the Netherlands have shown
that a homeopathically prepared dilution of thyroxin 10–30
(“decimal dilution”, final concentration in the basin wa-
ter 10–35
) was used to slow down metamorphosis from the two- to four-legged stage in highland Rana temporaria
(3–11%; p < 0.001). Thyroxin 10–30
was compared to analogously prepared solvent water 10–30
; number of animals
= 1,620 per group[1,2,3,4].
Further studies on thyroxin 10–30
were discussed elsewhere, namely analogous experiments with animals
from lowland biotopes[5], experiments with highland[3,4] and lowland[5] animals pretreatedwith molecular
thyroxin, and experiments with lowland animals treated from the spawn stage on[6].
For the experiment presented here, we used the same setup as for the initial multilaboratory study[1,2,3,4],
but a special preparation process of the homeopathic drug involving dilution steps of 1:50,000 and leading to
thyroxin 10–11
– 10–21
was used.
METHODS
The experiments were carried out by Lingg in his laboratory at Bregenz, Austria. The study was planned by
Lingg and Endler. Application of the homeopathically prepared thyroxin or solvent was done blind.
Animals, Staging, Water. and Further Laboratory Conditions
Rana temporaria larvae were taken from highland pools in the Austrian Alps, approximately 1,500 m above
sea level. The starting stage for treatment was defined as the point at which the hind legs of the two-legged
tadpoles are straddled, such that one can only just see through the triangle formed by thigh, shank, and tail. This
point of development occurs during Gosner’s stage 31[7, p. 45]. The tadpoles were observed until the forelegs
would break through the skin and the animals thus entered the four-legged stage. Basins contained 7.5 l of dwell
water each; water was not refreshed during the experiment.
In experiment 1, 40 animals were always allotted to each of a total of eight white plastic basins according to a
random procedure. In experiments 2 and 3, 25 animals were always allotted. Indirect natural light was used. Room
temperature was 20 ± 2°C. The tadpoles were fed with blanched greens (lettuce) ad libitum. Experiments were
carried out in August and September 2007.
Preparation and Administration of Test Solutions
One group of two-legged animals were treated with the homeopathically prepared test dilutions of
tetraiodothyronine sodium pentahydrate (L-thyroxine, T4, Sigma), while the other one was treated with the
analogously prepared solvent.
Dilutions Q1 (= 2 × 10–11 parts by weight), Q2 (= 4 × 10–16
), and Q3 (=8 × 10–21
) were prepared according to
standardized instructions[8]. These involved dilution steps of 1:50,000 and vigorous agitation between steps.
Preparation of test and control substances was done by K. Leisser, Homeocur ltd, Retz, Austria.
A quantity of 0.25 ml of probe dilution (test or control) was added per 7.5 l of basin water at intervals
of 8 h. Thus, final concentration in the basin water would be 0.6 × 10–15
after first application of Q1, 0.6 × 10–20
of
Q2, and 0.6 × 10–25
of Q3. At day 1, Q1 was used, at day 2, Q2 (etc., see Table 1).

Ascertaining and Evaluating the Data
Following a suggestion by R. Lüdtke, Institut für Medizinische Informationsverarbeitung Tübingen
University[5], the points in time when the numbers of water control animals that had reached the four
legged stage were closest to the 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, and 70th percentiles were defined as
reference points. The time interval between reference points normally was 8 or 16 h. In those cases, when
values of water control animals were, for example, 6% in one point in time and 14% in the following, we
decided to use the arithmetic mean (10%) both for water and control values. In this way, it was possible to
aggregate, for each of the reference points, the cumulative frequency of animals treated with control or
test solution having reached the four-legged stage. Aggregate values obtained at the reference points for
each of the types of treatment were analyzed by Chi-square tests using four-field tables with aggregate
frequencies of two- or three-legged animals as complement. According to a Bonferroni correction for
multiple measurements (i.e., 7), p values would have to be <0.007 to signify statistical significance.
Different statistical methods had been discussed in connection with the amphibian model previously,
such as variance analysis, t-test, survival analysis, proportional hazards model, and logistic regression[5].
These usually lead to comparable results but need larger numbers of basins in one and the same
experiment. Furthermore, depending on differences in the overall duration of experiments, standard
deviation (SD) is usually contorted when experiments from different laboratories are pooled. Also, in
order to make results comparable to those of previous publications, we restricted ourselves to the
(comparatively rough and estimative) Chi-square test.
RESULTS
There were 260 animals treated with thyroxin Q dilutions and
260 animals with analogously prepared water. As shown in
Fig. 1 and Table 2, animals treated with the test solution (black
squares) metamorphosed more slowly than the control animals
(white squares) at most points in time (2–13.5%).
The p values were significant at three points in time, out of
which one was statistically significant after Bonferroni
correction. SD was about 7–10%.

Values for thyroxin Q – animals were below those of water
Q – animals in each of the subexperiments including 50 + 50,
50 + 50, and 160 + 160 animals.
Frequencies of animals treated with homeopathically prepared
thyroxin reached the values of control animals with a delay of
about 0.29–1.39 intervals between points in time (= 2–11 h).
Thus, in accordance with our previous studies, the effect of the
homeopathically prepared thyroxin was opposed to the usual
stimulating effect of molecular thyroxin.
DISCUSSION
From our studies [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,9], there appears to be a
relationship between the effect of homeopathically prepared
thyroxin and an elevated thyroxin level in the animals during
metamorphosis.
Thyroxin diluted in steps of 1:10 (“decimal dilution”) up to
10–30 led to a slowing down of metamorphosis of about
3–11%[1,2,3,4]. Thyroxin diluted in steps of 1:50,000
(“Q”-dilution) up to 10–11
– 10–21
also led to a slowing down of
2–13.5% (the study presented here).
From a theoretical point of view, it seems interesting that
information from the original thyroxin molecules may have been
“imprinted” in water by input of kinetic energy in a sequence
of only a few steps of dilution 1:50,000 plus vigorous agitation
with a comparable result by a much longer sequence of steps
of 1:10. It goes without saying that further investigation should
concern both “decimal” dilutions in the range of 10–11
– 10–21
as
well as “Q” dilutions in the range of 10–30
.
Additionally, the so-called “hormesis” effect of moderate
molecular dilutions[7, p. 5ff], prepared without “homeopathic”
agitation phases, could be investigated with the amphibian
model.
