TREASURE HUNT:
THEMATIC UNIT: UNDERSTANDING THE MEDIA
MONTH: AUGUST- SEPTEMBER
TRIGGER
“Whoever controls the media controls the mind”.
Jim Morrison
PURPOSE:
To analyze the influence of mass media upon people’s daily life.
GUIDING QUESTIONS:
1. What is the mass media?
2. Name 3 types of mass media?
3. Which of them is the most profitable for your daily life, and why?
4. In your opinion, which is the least useful? Why?
5. Do you think the media can have an influence on your opinions?
Give examples.

“THE BIG QUESTION”
Do you believe in the information you get from mass media?
RUBRICS:
1. Fail 2. Unacceptable 3.Good 4. Excellent
Content
&
analysis
Shows poor
content, ideas
are not clearly
explained and
it does not
reflects deep
understanding
Ideas are well
developed, but there is
still a lack of analysis
upon the topic.
Ideas are
quite better,
and
explanations
are
improved,
but more
connection
between
ideas is
needed.
Ideas are
appropriate
as well as
content.
Students
show deep
understanding
of the topic.
Analysis is
also
appropriate
to the level of
the student.
Grammar
&
structure
Complete lack
of syntax,
reduced
vocabulary
and structure
of the texts is
not well
organized.
There’s an acceptable
usage of the language,
however structure
development needs
improvement.
There’s a
better usage
of the
language
but
vocabulary
is not wide
enough,
structures
are well
organized.
Full command
of the
language,
impeccable
syntax and
wide
vocabulary.
Structures are
perfectly
organized.
Behavior
Students have
problems with
organization
of the group.
They also
show a lack of
commitment
as they were
acting
disruptively.
The group is quite
organized, however
there’s no
commitment with the
activity.
The group is
organized
but only a
few fully
were
engaged
with the
activity.
Show
enthusiastic
with the
activity and
participate
actively in the
group.
