First and foremost, it helps them to develop both gross and fine motor skills
and aids in the development of their brains as well as their growing bodies.
“The activities that make up gym classes have a positive effect on the moods
of students who may have been sitting inside studying and feeling restless.

• Socialization
• Overall Academic Improvement
• Improved Memory
• Improved Attention Span
According to WHO estimates, up to 80% of cases
of coronary heart disease, 90% of type 2
diabetes cases, and one-third of cancers can be
avoided by increases physical activity, healthier
diet and stopping smoking.
In physical fitness, body composition is used to
describe the percentages of fat, bone and muscle
in human bodies.
Body mass index (BMI) is a simple ratio of weight-for- height that is
commonly used to classify overweight and obesity in adults. It is
calculated as the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the
height in meters (kg/m2).
Physical Education has four components:
1. Cardiovascular Fitness is the ability of the heart, lungs and vascular
system to deliver oxygen-rich blood..
2. Muscular Strength is the amount force a muscle or group of muscles
can exert against a heavy resistance.
3. Muscular Endurance is the ability of a muscle or muscle group to
repeat a movement many times.
4. Flexibility is a degree to which an individual muscle will lengthen.
To make better standard of living people in Abroad both Husband
and wife are working and very less time for themself and there next
generation.
Less time for Workout.
Unhealthy eating habits, more on fast food and left overs and
preservatives/ frozen foods.
The lifestyle demands more tech savvy work in your job and
business than physical. More of Mental ability work than physical.
It’s easy to accept bad and comfortable habits than the
challenging ones and good habits. The young generation is
easily opting to have junk foods getting more tech savvy,
More of indoor games than outdoor.
They love to play Football, Cricket and tennis but preferably
on Xbox or Computer/ Laptop.
There preferred source of entertainment is Ipad/ Ipods and
video Games.
And hence for Unhealthy eating and less physical activity
beginning of Overweight/ Obesity.
A new study conducted by a sports management agency has revealed
that obesity is on the rise among children in India with many of them
suffering from the problem even before they reach adolescence.
Bangalore based EduSports surveyed nearly 4,000 school students aged
between 5 to 14 years in 15 cities and found that nearly a quarter of
them had a high Body Mass Index (BMI).
Nearly half of the students surveyed did not possess ideal BMI ratios
while 19 percent showed lower than ideal BMI.
Stating that today’s children find very less time to indulge in physical
activities, lead researcher Reshma Nayak said “Due to the constantly
changing lifestyle, children have become more passive. The space
constraints that exist in the cities today has left children with no
opportunity to play enough and this has reduced their immunity
towards many health hazards.”
This is not the only survey that reveals the increase in this
serious health problem. Another one conducted by The All
India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi,
among children in the age group of 14 and 18 found 17
percent of children to be obese or overweight. A similar
study by Delhi's Fortis Hospital found that 28 percent of
school kids in the city are obese, whereas a research in
urban areas of southern India revealed 21 percent boys and
18 percent of girls between 13 and 18 years, to be obese.
The studies have also shown how parents in India are
unaware that their children are overweight or obese.

COIMBATORE: In the backdrop of today's fast food culture, it is hardly
surprising that one in ten children in Coimbatore, between six and 12
years is obese. What is alarming is that an equal number of children
in semi-rural areas are overweight and one in every twenty five
children is obese.
Pediatricians say childhood obesity is signaling a distressingly new
health trend. Of 10,229 children, aged between six to twelve years,
treated as outpatients at a private hospital in Coimbatore in 2010, as
many as 1,118 were obese. It is a disturbing fact that 10% of children
in the city are obese. "Ten years ago, this was less than five per cent"
says Dr C Srinivasan, chief pediatrician at the KG Hospitals.

The Age for a Child to Start at the Gym
Children need exercise just as much as adults, so it's appropriate for them to go
to the gym from about the age of 4 to 5 onward. The Centre for Disease Control and
Prevention, recommends children get at least one hour of exercise every day.
Benefits of regular exercise for children include controlling stress, raising
self-esteem, maintaining a healthy weight, building a healthy body and improved
sleep. The type of activity a child does at the gym depends on his age and physical
maturity.

Ages 4 to 5
As her motor skills mature, your child's gym classes can
become more complex, incorporating movements such as
running, jumping, skipping and tag. She may enjoy classes at
the gym such as swimming, T-ball and tumbling. Gymnastics
can be introduced, as long as the emphasis is still on fun and
creativity, rather than a rigorous, structured fitness regime to
further develop her motor skills, improving balance and
coordination. Many gyms have T-ball classes, teaching the
basics beginning at around age 4. According to the website T-
Ball USA, T-ball is one of the first team sports most children
learn. The game should serve as an introduction to the sport
and teach basic skills.

Ages 6 to 12
An elementary school child starts to make more of her own
decisions about how she wants to exercise. She may enjoy
more organized gym sports meeting up to three times a
week. She's ready to have gym classes extend beyond the
basics during these years to help her develop her own style.
Her gym activities can include yoga, rock climbing and more
advanced gymnastic classes, as well as group activities
such as softball, baseball, basketball, soccer, horseback
riding and swimming.
Ages 13-18
Your teens begins to exercise in a highly structured manner, that
will more closely resemble her exercise regime as an adult.
Exercising gives your teen an alternative to sedentary activities
such as video games, watching TV and surfing the Internet. He
may choose either individual gym activities such as jogging,
swimming or weightlifting or team sports such as football,
basketball or wrestling.It's appropriate for him to begin
weightlifting, if this peaks his interest. According to the website,
kidshealth.org, once your child begins puberty, he has the
hormones necessary to build muscle through formal resistance
training such as weightlifting.

A new study conducted by a sports management agency has revealed that obesity is on the rise among children in India with many of them suffering from the problem even before they reach adolescence. Bangalore based EduSports surveyed nearly 4,000 school students aged between 5 to 14 years in 15 cities and found that nearly a quarter of them had a high Body Mass Index (BMI). Nearly half of the students surveyed did not possess ideal BMI ratios while 19 percent showed lower than ideal BMI. Stating that today’s children find very less time to indulge in physical activities, lead researcher Reshma Nayak said “Due to the constantly changing lifestyle, children have become more passive. The space constraints that exist in the cities today has left children with no opportunity to play enough and this has reduced their immunity towards many health hazards.”
  • 11. This is not the only survey that reveals the increase in this serious health problem. Another one conducted by The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, among children in the age group of 14 and 18 found 17 percent of children to be obese or overweight. A similar study by Delhi's Fortis Hospital found that 28 percent of school kids in the city are obese, whereas a research in urban areas of southern India revealed 21 percent boys and 18 percent of girls between 13 and 18 years, to be obese. The studies have also shown how parents in India are unaware that their children are overweight or obese.

Of 10,229 children, aged between six to twelve years, treated as outpatients at a private hospital in Coimbatore in 2010, as many as 1,118 were obese. It is a disturbing fact that 10% of children in the city are obese. "Ten years ago, this was less than five per cent" says Dr C Srinivasan, chief pediatrician at the KG Hospitals.
