RAIL VIKAS NIGAM LIMITED
 Created as a Public Sector Undertaking in
2003 by Ministry of Railways.
 100% owned by MoR and executing Railway
projects.
Background of creation of RVNL
RVNL was created to:
– Implement railway projects of gauge conversion,
new line, doubling or additional lines to remove
bottlenecks.
– Through non-budgetary resources
– On fast track basis
Vision 2020, Presented by Rail Minister in parliament in Nov 2009)
envisages construction of:
 25,000 km of new line,
 12,000 km of Gauge Conversion and
 12,000 km of doubling etc.
Mandate of RVNL
 Undertaking project development
 Preparation of DPR and Bankability Report.
 Resource mobilization
Creating project specific SPVs for individual works, if
required.
Project execution of all projects, whether bankable/non-
bankable on fast track basis.
HIGHLIGHTS / ACHIEVEMENTS
 2nd
Mahanadi Bridge (2.1 Km) under ADB Funding completed
ahead of schedule (33 months).
 Constructed longest railway bridge (4.6 km) along with
navigational clearances in Vallarpadam-Idapally Kochi Harbor
project in Kerala in period of 28 months.
 Constructed longest subway under the Railway tracks in India -
87m long subway under 12 running tracks by Box Pushing
Technology in Chennai.
 Adopted the PSC girder span of 45.0m with 30T axle load for the
first time on Indian Railways.
 Use of Computer Controlled Automated Batching plants of
upto 60 cum/hr Capacity.
 Construction and handing over of Dankuni Diesel Loco Factory
and Haldia DMU Factory in record time.
HIGHLIGHTS / ACHIEVEMENTS
Welded girders with high tensile steel introduced
upto span of 89.3m.
Imported Rotary Rigs deployed for piling work.
Pug mills installed for mixing of granular materials.
Solid State Interlocking adopted at large scale.
Thick Web Switches to improve life cycle cost and
safety.
Mechanized earthwork and track linking.
Large size crushers installed for ballast production.
Use of Flash Butt Welding mobile plants resulting
into improved reliability of assets and safety.

  • 42. RAIL VIKAS NIGAM LIMITED  Created as a Public Sector Undertaking in 2003 by Ministry of Railways.  100% owned by MoR and executing Railway projects.

Background of creation of RVNL RVNL was created to: – Implement railway projects of gauge conversion, new line, doubling or additional lines to remove bottlenecks. – Through non-budgetary resources – On fast track basis Vision 2020, Presented by Rail Minister in parliament in Nov 2009) envisages construction of:  25,000 km of new line,  12,000 km of Gauge Conversion and  12,000 km of doubling etc.
  • 44. Mandate of RVNL  Undertaking project development  Preparation of DPR and Bankability Report.  Resource mobilization Creating project specific SPVs for individual works, if required. Project execution of all projects, whether bankable/non- bankable on fast track basis.

HIGHLIGHTS / ACHIEVEMENTS  2nd Mahanadi Bridge (2.1 Km) under ADB Funding completed ahead of schedule (33 months).  Constructed longest railway bridge (4.6 km) along with navigational clearances in Vallarpadam-Idapally Kochi Harbor project in Kerala in period of 28 months.  Constructed longest subway under the Railway tracks in India - 87m long subway under 12 running tracks by Box Pushing Technology in Chennai.  Adopted the PSC girder span of 45.0m with 30T axle load for the first time on Indian Railways.  Use of Computer Controlled Automated Batching plants of upto 60 cum/hr Capacity.  Construction and handing over of Dankuni Diesel Loco Factory and Haldia DMU Factory in record time.

HIGHLIGHTS / ACHIEVEMENTS Welded girders with high tensile steel introduced upto span of 89.3m. Imported Rotary Rigs deployed for piling work. Pug mills installed for mixing of granular materials. Solid State Interlocking adopted at large scale. Thick Web Switches to improve life cycle cost and safety. Mechanized earthwork and track linking. Large size crushers installed for ballast production. Use of Flash Butt Welding mobile plants resulting into improved reliability of assets and safety.

  • 52. Diesel Loco Component Factory at Dankuni  Work Completed and handed over to Railway.  Final bill paid, Completion report prepared.
  • 53. Electric Locomotives Factory at Dankuni  Date of Transfer to RVNL 07.05.2012.  Date of Calling Tender 28.05.2012.  Awarded on 02.10.2012.  35% work completed.
  • 54. DMU Factory Haldia  Work completed in 18 months.  Handed over - April’ 2013.
  • 55. ROB Barddhaman  Tender Opened on 27.01.2012.  Awarded on 20.02.2012 (24 days time taken between opening and award of contract).
  • 56. VISION FOR THE FUTURE Greater role in creating capacity on Indian Railways. Construction of mega bridges, special bridges such as Cable Stayed Bridge. Becoming an expert in Metro Construction (MRTS) Extra budgetary resource mobilization. Construction of approx. 750 kms of BG lines every year. Project expenditure of approx Rs. 30,000 million.
