The circulatory system transports oxygen, nutrients, and waste products around the body. It includes the heart, blood vessels, and blood. The heart pumps blood through arteries, which branch into capillaries where oxygen and nutrients are exchanged, and veins return blood back to the heart. Blood contains plasma and blood cells like red blood cells, which carry oxygen, and white blood cells, which fight infection. The circulatory system has two circuits - pulmonary circulation carries blood to the lungs to pick up oxygen and release carbon dioxide, while general circulation transports oxygenated blood to tissues and returns carbon dioxide back to the heart.
