This document provides an overview of common verbs used with gerunds (-ing form) and infinitives (to + base verb) in English. It discusses verbs that can be used with both gerunds and infinitives with no change in meaning, as well as verbs where the choice impacts the meaning. Examples are given for different usage patterns like verb + object + infinitive, verb + wh- + to + infinitive, and gerund/infinitive after connectors or as nouns. Edge cases involving aspects like passive voice, methods, decisions, and comparisons are also covered.
The document discusses how to report statements, questions, and requests that were spoken by someone else. It explains that when reporting speech, verb tenses must change to the past tense. Time, place, and pronouns may also need to change. Yes/no questions are reported using "if/whether" and wh- questions use the wh- word. Requests can be reported using "told to" for positive requests and "told not to" for negative requests.

Case Study - Patient Management at SughaVazhvu HealthcareICTPH
This document describes Narmada's interactions with health care workers through SughaVazhvu, a community health program in India. It discusses how a Health Extension Worker enrolled Narmada, conducted screening tests, and provided counseling. The HEW then referred Narmada to a physician. The physician further examined Narmada and diagnosed her as diabetic. Through cervical cancer screening, Narmada was also found to have pre-cancer, which was then treated. Overall, the program helped identify and treat Narmada's health issues.
The document discusses rural health care in India. It addresses the challenges of availability, accessibility, and affordability of rural health services. It proposes organizing primary care services through a corporatized approach and establishing referral mechanisms to provide a continuum of care. It suggests prepayment mechanisms like insurance or capitation fees to finance care. The strategy involves establishing local health centers staffed by doctors and community health workers. The centers would conduct screening, management of common conditions, and follow-ups using evidence-based protocols and digital tools. A range of primary care services would be provided including management of cardiovascular risk factors, refractive errors, oral health, and women's health issues. Usage of the services has increased over time as more villages have been covered
Marketing Managed Care to Rural Indian Populations - A Pangea Advisors and IC...ICTPH
ICTPH is considering offering a health micro-insurance product to address the unmet need for pre-paid healthcare in its communities. While rolling out an insurance product requires a long-term effort starting with a limited offering, case studies show three common models: (1) an NGO acts as the healthcare provider; (2) an NGO serves as the insurer; and (3) an NGO acts as an agent. ICTPH believes the provider model best meets the identified need, but it implies a higher financial burden that must be reconciled with operational costs and willingness to pay.

10 heuristics for modeling decision makingBarney Stacher
This document discusses ten heuristics for developing interdisciplinary simulation models through collaborative teamwork. It begins by describing the value of integrated system models for addressing complex environmental problems but notes the challenges of developing such models interdisciplinarily.
The heuristics discussed include: carefully selecting team members with big-picture thinking skills; heavily investing in early problem definition through negotiation; and using rapid prototyping rather than attempting to fully specify models upfront. The Sustainability of Arctic Communities project is used to illustrate these heuristics, such as how developing initial conceptual models aided in problem definition and team assembly.
Sustainability science aims to integrate knowledge from different disciplines to address complex environmental and social problems, in contrast to traditional science which focuses on individual disciplines. It emphasizes co-producing knowledge with stakeholders, addressing real-world problems, and finding holistic solutions through systems thinking. The document discusses challenges with traditional approaches and how sustainability science facilitates more interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research to better understand human-environment interactions.

The document discusses team science approaches for conducting research. It describes multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary approaches. Multidisciplinarity involves researchers from different fields working independently towards a common goal. Interdisciplinarity involves joint work but researchers retain their own perspectives. Transdisciplinarity uses an integrated conceptual framework combining theories from different fields. The author believes all approaches are needed for clinical and translational research but team composition depends on the research topic and design. Effective collaboration through hands-on projects helped the author gain knowledge to achieve research goals, but inappropriate transfer of lessons between initiatives poses a challenge.
This document discusses interdisciplinary research. It defines interdisciplinary research as integrating knowledge and methods from different disciplines to address a research question. The document outlines the need for interdisciplinary research to solve interconnected problems in an interconnected world. It also discusses the process of conceptual design, technical design, integration, and addressing scientific and ethical considerations. Some benefits of interdisciplinary research include addressing bigger questions, developing a wider audience, and gaining new perspectives. However, challenges can include differences in theoretical backgrounds, operationalizing concepts, intellectual traditions, and methodological approaches between disciplines.
Promoting the role of data and scientific models in students’ argumentation o...jdomen44
This study explored using linguistic scaffolds to improve students' abilities to incorporate scientific context and concepts into arguments about socio-scientific issues. The researchers developed scaffolds for critical reading, debate, and essay writing around two socio-scientific dilemmas. They assessed 36 students' essays using a rubric measuring use of vocabulary, scientific models, data, argumentation structure, and discourse. Students showed low initial ability to use concepts and data but improved after feedback, particularly in argumentation, concept use, and vocabulary. The scaffolds effectively increased students' incorporation of science into their arguments on socio-scientific issues.
While science is a natural home for project-based learning techniques, blending in the global competencies and other subjects can sometimes be more challenging. This session will focus on approaches to incorporating global competencies in science in both elementary and secondary settings. We will look at some concrete examples and have opportunities to collaborate with colleagues throughout the network. Please bring a computer to this session as we will be accessing online resources.
Open Team Science: a new team-based research methodology for socio-environmen...Yasuhisa Kondo
The document proposes an "Open Team Science" methodology that integrates open science and transdisciplinary research theories to reduce information asymmetry in socio-environmental projects. It applies this methodology to the case of waterweed overgrowth in Lake Biwa, Japan. The methodology engages local stakeholders through civic technology and uses open data sharing, questionnaires, and ideathons to understand different perspectives and collaboratively develop realistic solutions. It aims to overcome gaps in understanding among researchers and actors through methods like transcendence, empowerment, visualization, and dialogue.
A Concept Analysis of Interdisciplinary Collaboration in Mental Healthcare by...Crimsonpublisherscojnh
Given the complexity of bio-psycho-social-spiritual influences, people with mental illness should be provided with multifaceted treatment and multi-system intervention. Mental health care teams are therefore expected to achieve interdisciplinary collaboration (IDC) to ensure delivery of safe, high-quality and well coordinated health care. There is increasing evidence to suggest that IDC leads to better patient outcomes. A growing body of research has shown that IDC is more effective than standard care in terms of clinical outcomes such as improved quality of life and alleviated depressed mood in people with mental disorders-with reducing healthcare costs. Despite advances in research, there is still a lack of conceptual clarity of IDC, resulting in inconsistent models of care and inconsistent findings. The ambiguous conceptualization of IDC impedes the standardisation of evidence-based practice and also limits practical applicability and comparability. Thorough understanding of the meaning of IDC in the context of mental healthcare is of vital importance in guiding further studies and evidence-based practice

Learning Objective: Participants will be informed of the status of current research partnerships with majority universities, and the benefits of partnerships with majority institutions to compete for research funding
In an increasing flat federal research funding environment, strategic partnerships are imperative for any higher education institution. Partnerships foster opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations, faculty and student research expression, and most importantly combine capacities leading to larger and long-term grants and cooperative agreements. The focus of this seminar is to hear how these partnerships are progressing and could set the stage for wider conversations about benefits and opportunities for future collaborations between our Nation’s HBCUs and Majority Institutions.
At the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:
a. Understand the value of collaborating with Majority Institutions in developing joint research proposals for sponsored funding.
b. Managing institutional partnerships – best practices.
The document discusses the benefits of undergraduate research experiences. It outlines how research experience benefits the student's education by allowing them to practice problem-solving skills, immerse themselves in a field of study, and build relationships. Research is also beneficial for gaining admission to graduate programs, as it is often a required experience. The document also notes that research helps develop important skills for medical students such as analytical thinking and self-directed learning.
An Interdisciplinary And Development Lens On Knowledge TranslationSara Alvarez
This document discusses knowledge translation (KT) through two case studies in South Africa. KT is defined as a dynamic process involving knowledge synthesis, dissemination, exchange and application. The case studies examine KT at an AIDS vaccine trial site and in biotechnology policy harmonization. An interdisciplinary lens highlights the importance of socioeconomic and political contexts. The developing country setting presents particular KT challenges, such as resource constraints and inclusion of diverse communities, that conventional analyses may overlook. Effective KT in developing countries requires context-specific capabilities and capacities.
