Erik Duval presented on ARIADNE, a project aimed at connecting learning resource repositories globally through the use of metadata standards and harvesting protocols. The key technologies discussed were the use of LOM metadata to describe learning resources, harvesting via OAI-PMH to copy data locally, and federated search using SQI to distribute queries across repositories. The goal of such infrastructures is to make resources abundantly available on a global scale through interconnection, while still allowing for personalized front-ends.
