Erik Duval gave a presentation to secondary school directors on learning analytics and educational data mining. He discussed how technology can collect extensive data on student learning behaviors both online and offline. This data can provide insights into learning when analyzed and presented back to students and teachers through personalized dashboards. However, issues around student privacy, control over data collection, and introducing fear around monitoring must still be addressed for learning analytics to empower students.
