This presentation, created by Syed Faiz ul Hassan, explores the profound influence of media on public perception and behavior. It delves into the evolution of media from oral traditions to modern digital and social media platforms. Key topics include the role of media in information propagation, socialization, crisis awareness, globalization, and education. The presentation also examines media influence through agenda setting, propaganda, and manipulative techniques used by advertisers and marketers. Furthermore, it highlights the impact of surveillance enabled by media technologies on personal behavior and preferences. Through this comprehensive overview, the presentation aims to shed light on how media shapes collective consciousness and public opinion.

3. Pinterest and its functions
How women use it
Differences from Google images
Downsides: women look at Pinterest and
desire unattainable things due to their
budgets
Self-esteem issues
INTRODUCTION
4. Women look at Pinterest and see perfection;
they want this and it hinders their planning
“She wants the cake to be a certain way, or she
wants a certain heel because of how it looks or
which designer’s name is printed on the sole”.
Women are stressed because of their multiple
roles as wives-to-be, daughters trying to please
their parents, hosts trying to please guests
Weddings become a weight on their shoulders
BRIDES: SELF-IMAGE
5. J.W. Kim, & T.M. Chock found that social media
is a source of self-degradation in women and
men
Women see the models and want to look the
same, have the same dress, etc.
“Weddings represent a time of new beginnings,
such as purchasing new homes, childbirth, or
new jobs”.
“A woman’s every day life is filled with emotion,
so when she is given more responsibility and
stress than expected, her emotions are likely to
increase”.
SOCIAL MEDIA AND STRESS
6. The social marketing theory is meant to cause an
audience to become aware of a certain movement,
and to target messages to specific people who will
be receptive to them, thus gaining their interest
The website puts up images for women to see and
become interested in; they post links in these images
in hopes that women will proceed to the website and
make a purchase
This benefits the website because they are in turn
benefitting the companies whose images are being
used
Friends of users join because of other social media
sites, like Facebook
SOCIAL MARKETING THEORY
7. She was asked a series of seven questions
She informed that she has two Pinterest boards
Agreed that the boards had negative effects on her self-
esteem as well as expectations for her big day
Stopped using the website for wedding planning purposes
It did aid in her finding a less expensive wedding cake,
color scheme, and ideas for a wedding dress
Concluded that it helped with her ideas and what she
wanted in each aspect
When asked what was purchased, she responded that she
found bridesmaids dresses on sale. This was the only
item she found to purchase
STUDY OF A BRIDE-TO-BE
8. Pinterest is a helpful aid in wedding planning, but
it is better for ideas
Some brides may have large budgets and be able
to use it
Self-esteem is hindered when looking at most
social media websites, Pinterest is not really an
exception
“For example, a user who loves fashion might
have a best friend with the same interests. They
might see the images their friend is pinning
through her Tumblr page and become interested
in doing this herself”
CONCLUSIONS
