TKT is a new test that aims to increase teachers' confidence and career prospects by focusing on core teaching knowledge for teachers of English as a foreign language. It tests knowledge in three modules that cover the language of teaching, methodologies, lesson planning, classroom management, and using resources. TKT can be taken at any stage of a teaching career by pre-service or practicing teachers and provides a framework for teaching qualifications offered by Cambridge English.

2. What is TKT?
TKT is the new test about teaching English to speakers of
other languages. It aims to increase teachers’ confidence
and enhance job prospects by focusing on the core
teaching knowledge needed by teachers of primary,
secondary or adult learners, anywhere in the world. This
new award will help you to understand:
the ‘language of teaching’
different methodologies for teaching
 The ways in which resources can be used
the key aspects of lesson planning
 Classroom management methods for different needs.

3. What does it test?
 TKT tests knowledge about the teaching
of English to speakers of other
languages. This knowledge includes
concepts related to language, language
use and the background to and practice
of language teaching and learning and is
assessed by means of objective format
tests, which are simple to administer
and to take.

4. Who can sit for TKT?
 TKT can be taken at any stage in a
teacher’s career. It is suitable for pre-
service or practising teachers and forms
part of a framework of teaching awards
and tests for teachers offered by
Cambridge ESOL.
