The Chamber of Deputies from the Province of Chaco in Argentina passed Law No. 7074 to promote a culture of peace and non-violence through the education system. The law mandates teaching values of non-violence, tolerance, democracy and justice. It also requires creating specialized curriculum on peace education and incorporating these values into textbooks. The Ministry of Education will implement the law by developing cooperation with civil society organizations and promoting initiatives coordinated with UNESCO and UNICEF. A dedicated fund will be established to finance these programs.

For Advancement of Education and Culture
of Peace and Non – Violence.
ARTICLE 1°: Provides that the Executive Power will implement a Culture of Peace
and Non-violencethroughout the province, in order to promote and strengthen the
development of the teaching of values, attitudes, behaviors and lifestyles which
lead to the promotion of a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence.
ARTICLE 2°: The aims of this Act are to:
a) Promote that in all levels of the provincial education system, the
curriculum areas are to be taught in accordance with the values of a
culture of peace.
b) Push through the creation of specialized curricular areas in issues
related to the Education for Peace and democratic values.
c) Foster the incorporation of values of nonviolence, tolerance, democracy,
solidarity and justice in the content of textbooks, educational materials
and audiovisual programs.
d) Encourage and promote the teaching of values, attitudes, behaviors and
lifestyles which lead to the promotion of a culture of peace and nonviolence in the three Branches of Government.
ARTICLE 3º: The Ministry of Education, Culture; Science and Technology, will be
the Agency in charge of implementing the present law.

ARTICLE 4º: The authority of implementation will have the following powers:
a) To establish cooperation agreements with government agencies, civil
society organizations, entities and institutions doomed to the theme, in
the provincial, national and international scope.
b) To articulate the consulting mechanisms with civil society and peace
movements, for the proper implementation of the provisions of this law.
c) To promote recognition of the initiatives of non-governmental
organizations NGOs, entities and institutions that foster peace.
d) To encourage the study and research in the fields of peace and nonviolence.
e) To promote the development of concrete initiatives in matters of culture
of peace coordinated with the United Nations for Education, Science and
Culture (UNESCO) and the United Nations Fund for Children (UNICEF).
ARTICLE 5º: In order to comply with this Act,a fund will be set up , financed by an
annual amountcomputed additionally to the resources that the Ministry of
Education, Culture, Science and Technology has allocatedin its budget and from
other financing sources of national and international origin.
ARTICLE 6º: Be it registered and communicated to the Executive Branch.
