TITLING WITHIN VIDEO
GAMES
DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION
In this image promoting Dragon Age inquisition, there is the
name of the game shown so that the user knows what
game it is from so it works as a form of advertising, it also
shows the name of the character shown in the image which
helps to create world building which could help to make the
game more appealing to the person who sees this if the
character shown appeals to them. The adding of the text to
the image also gives it a sense of context to the user, as it
gives some information about the game and the character
but not too much so that the person viewing it will want to
find out more about the character and will look into the
game. Also, the name of the game series, ‘Dragon Age’ is
in small text but the name of the entry into the series
‘Inquisition’ is in larger text. This may be because Dragon
Age is already a well established name in games so they
can make the series name smaller to make the entry title
the main body of the text so it will be more eye catching for
the user. I could use this in my production at the start of the
trailer for the title of the game to catch the viewer’s
attention and peak their interest in the game.
ALIEN ISOLATION
On the cover art of the box for Alien Isolation there
is a few things, which will initially catch the viewer’s
attention such as the title of the game which is in
large bold text which will grab the eye of the person
looking at it, this is good because it is a strong brand
name as it’s the Alien franchise which has a loyal
following which will help to promote the game. Also,
on the front of the box there is shown the companies
who developed and distributed the game, which will
help to provide additional information for the user. I
should do this with my product, as it will help to
make my production seem more professional and
give it a sense of authenticity. Another thing that is
on the front of the image is the age rating for the
game which will make the customer aware of what
the recommended age for the game is so that they
know what to be expecting and won’t get the game
for someone who is underage to play it. I could add
something like this to the beginning of my trailer as it
will make it seem more professional.
METAL GEAR SOLID: V
In this screen shot from the Metal Gear Solid V 2013 trailer it shows a
scene from the beginning of the trailer, this shows the name of the
Producer of the game. There is a good use of negative space around
this title so that the viewers attention is directly drawn to it. This may
be done so that the viewer can see who made the game as the name
‘Hideo Kojima’ is a well known and respected name in the industry so
it will bring in a large following of people as Kojima already has an
established fan base which they will be automatically appealing to. I
could consider doing this with my production, however, I won’t be
able to have the same star power as the Kojima brand but it will still
have the same aesthetic appeal as the Kojima title.
