For more than three decades, Sohrab Tebyanian has owned and operated Andriana Furs in Chicago, selling high-quality garments made from mink, sable, fox, wool, and cashmere. Outside of work, Sohrab Tebyanian enjoys growing flowers and herbs in his garden. Designing a personal garden requires careful thought in order to make the most of the space. First, research the climate and soil of your region to determine what will grow best. Then, take a similar approach to the one you would when designing a room in your house, considering the overall purpose of the garden. Is the goal to grow food or herbs, or for the aesthetic appeal of flowers? Choose plants aligned with this goal. Herbs grow well in containers, while low-growing plants can create barriers between sections of the garden. Try sketching the garden on paper, allowing sufficient space for growth over time. To add to the visual appeal of a garden, combine various colors, textures, and heights. If sustainability is a concern, plant resource-efficient native species that require little watering and utilize recycled materials when possible.
