The Bengal tiger is a large solitary carnivore found in fragmented parts of its historic range from India to Southeast Asia. Males can weigh up to 250 kg with orange and black striped fur. They have no defined breeding season but most mate between November and April. The biggest threats to Bengal tigers are habitat loss and poaching, as their bones, skin and other body parts are used in traditional medicine, resulting in a population decline from 100,000 to only 3,000 tigers in the early 20th century. Adult tigers strongly defend territories of up to 80 square km.
