The tiger is the largest cat species and third largest land animal. They have an orange coat with black stripes and several subspecies exist, including the white Bengal tiger. Tigers historically ranged throughout Asia but have lost 93% of their territory over the last century. There are now only 3,000-4,000 tigers left in the wild, isolated in small populations. All six remaining subspecies are threatened with extinction.

about 100,000 at the beginning
of the 20th century. Most
populations are isolated from
each other. Tigers have less
than 1 184 911 km², down 41%
from 1990.
