Secrets and Lies Essay
Is this Life? Resolutions, Humour and Family in Mike Leigh s Secrets Lies In this essay I
would like to argue that in Secrets and Lies Mike Leigh is suggesting that secrets cause tensions
in families and destroys relationships between family members. Firstly, I would like to consider
that it is actually true according my own experience because there is been some lies and hidden
secrets in my family as well and once they are exposed, it causes embarrassments to those whom
are affected. Secondly, I believe secrets can form a negative and positive impact once they are
exposed because, it can be a turning point where families consider reuniting and leave the past
behind which obviously happens in Secrets and Lies. Sometimes it happens... Show more content on

This reflects to Rosenbaum s quote where he asks himself why Why, then, have I liked Secrets
and Lies so much that I ve been able to see it three times with pleasure, and found it as gripping
the third time as the first? (Rosenbaum) It is how Leigh let his actors create an environment he
looking for, says the author! In my opinion, I believe Rosenbaum is amazed about Leigh s work
because, the producer reveals how he simply does to make his movies become independent . I
assume that most producers scribble down a script and give it to their actors when it s done and
here Leigh does the opposite and the results prove to come out great. In this paragraph, I
emphasize on the difference between Secrets and Lies in and Hollywood movies and what
others say about his work. Rosenbaum argues that, Set Secrets and Lies alongside most recent
Hollywood pictures it looks like a masterpiece, but considered in relation to the best of Leigh say,
Meantime or Grown ups or High Hopes or the best of recent non Hollywood films, it looks rather
thin. (Rosenbaum) As the author puts it, Secrets and Lies don t have enough detailed information
to be classified as one of Leigh s best movies because, he claims that it not one that sticks in one s

Jung Typology Test And Personality Temperament
The Jung Typology Test determined that my personality temperament was ISFJ, being 41
percent introvert, 22 percent sensing, 6 percent feeling, and 25 percent judging. My Keirsey
Temperament is the SJ or Guardians group, meaning that I am a protector and nurturer. This
paper will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of this personality group, as well as an
application of its relevance in the workplace. This paper will conclude with a discussion of how
to apply the Christian worldview for the successful implementation of my personality
temperament in the workplace. Project One: Personality Type and Temperament Step 1 I
Introvert The Jung Typology Test (1998) found that I am 41 percent introverted. Kroeger,
Thuesen, and Rutledge (2002) describe introverts as needing time to think things over when
faced with a decision, and they prefer stating their opinions without being interrupted. This is
definitely accurate for me, because I do not like to jump to quick decisions, I need time to think
over what I have to say, and if it is something important, then I do prefer rehearsing it a few times
before discussing it with someone else. Kroeger et al. (2002) state that introverts enjoy having
time to themselves and will often need time alone to recharge after engaging in social events. In
addition, introverts are usually described as being shy, and enjoy sharing special events with one
or two close friends (Kroeger et al., 2002, p.18). I enjoy

The British Of The Slave Trade
The attempt to end the slave trade brought the British into conflict with elite African slave traders.
The British anticipated conflict therefore their efforts to abolish the slave trade in the city of Lagos
are minimal. The British instead used features of domestic slavery to justify their approach to it,
and created policies. Rather, the British used the anti slaverymovement to have an informal control
the city of Lagos. For the simple fact that the city of Lagos was an economic center in the Western
Coast of Africa. As well as the British thought that with the abolishment of the slave trade would
allow for Africans to have better access to British goods. It reveals that the British wanted Africans
to buy British goods that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the conflict over the abolition of slavery, the British feared losing control of the native

difficult decision because they wanted to satisfy...[their] the sense of justice and [being] the master
at the same time. The British wanted to have control of the native population, however, that would
not be achieved if they abolished domestic slavery. Colonial authorities formed a view of slavery
because they wanted to minimize risk, but at the same time, they also knew that they had to justify
their own colonial practices towards the natives of Lagos.
The British walked a very fine line between what their government policy and attempting to avoid
conflict with the native population. They also had to justify their own colonial treatment of the
native s population. In eighteen fifty one, the British believed that their ability intervene...[was]

Interperosnal Communication In The Blind Side
The Blind Side is based on a true story about a homeless boy named Michael Oher (Big Mike)
who has been living with different people until the Tuohys take him in. Leigh Anne and Sean
Tuohy eventually become his legal guardians and the story is about how his life improves while
playing football at Wingate high school in Tennesee. It shows his struggles with grades, and how
the familyand Michael are affected by the other. Because of his giant size he goes on to get a
football scholarship for the University of Mississippi. The story is about his journey. This analysis

One scene that came to mind was when he was practicing on the football field and wasent
performing to his best ablity that everyone knew he had. In the Scene his adoptive mom Mrs.
Tuohy helps him understand the position he is playing and how he should allude his players to
his family, that its like protecting his family when he is playing. This scene display a great verbal
communication concept that helps michael achieve what he was suppose to achieve which was
perforimg at his highest level of tallent that everyone knew he had. Intercultural communication is
defined as situated communication between individuals or groups of different linguistic and
cultural origins. Throught this movie race plays a major role between Michael and his new
surrondings. His adoptive family is caucasion and Michael is african American, he s low class and
they are high class pertaining to social and econimc standards. When he was driven to the school
and was taken through the wealthy neighborhood, he was looking around like he was on a diiferent
planet. I beliveve that this movie display great examples of interpersonal communication because of
all the divergent issues and perosonalities within the characters. It shows various kinds of
communication concpets that were very pragmatic and made it easy to put ourselves in the

Narrative Essay On Table Dinner
On a Friday night almost nine clocks. I and my family were getting the table dinner ready for our
guest for tonight. Everyone seems to be happy that we have company coming in. the bell door
rang, I rush to the door to open it. Thomas Jefferson The Founding Father arrived. I was honored
to have him in my house. I expected all of them to come together at the same time, so we don t
have to wait for others in order to eat. I took him to his seat and I told him to make yourself at
home. The doorbell rang again, I opened the door. There was C.S. Lewis, his Holinessthe Dalai
Lama, Gretchen Rubin and Jennifer Michael Hechtstanding in line. I was like thank god they
came at the same time. I took them to their seats. Before we began eating I told them how happy
am I see them and to eat with them. Everyone started eating, While I was eating I was thinking
about how happy am I. I asked myself why am I happy right now. Then, I asked everyone at the
table, what makes people happy? Is it freedom, money, or pleasure and desire. Jefferson pulls his
head up from the dinner plate and said: that s a good question . According to Jefferson freedom,
what makes people happy. The others kept eating than C.S Lewis stopped eating. He looked at me,
then at Jefferson. Lewis kind of agreed with that, but not to the point where your action hurt others
(228). It was interesting to think that people might be happy even though they know that they are
hurting someone. Lewis explained that the

The Problem of Media and Violence
Violence has become a serious problem in America. From Sandy Hook Elementary to the Aurora
Colorado shootings, terrorism has crept deeper into the culture. From 1982 1992 there were eight
incidences of terrorism. From 2002 2012 there have been seventeen (Geigner). The growth at which
these events are spreading is exponential. Modern terrorismdid not begin until approximately the
1950s when it changed from guerrilla tactics used by a nation to the to the type common today, non
state terrorism. These assailants fight for no flag, have no rules, and will do whatever they feel like
at any given moment (Zalman). The violencethese radicals produce is cataclysmic. However,
instead of being distressed by this violence, citizens latch onto the offenders. They give the
assailant the fame and popularity that he or she desires. For example, within hours of Boston
Bombings, the faces of the two assassins were broadcasted everywhere in the media, and rightly
so. The police needed the help of the public to find and capture these criminals. But constant media
coverage three weeks after the event was unnecessary. Many say that sensationalist media, not gun
control is the reason for attacks of violence. Those who terrorize the nation are held up almost as
heroes. Their names are plastered on every news station around the world. Assailants will always
find ways to kill even with the extreme control of guns. But, without the publicity and the fame,
psychopaths would not need to kill innocent

The Last Mohicans
The Last of the Mohicans Essay Everyone knows the famously old Arabic proverb, The enemy of
my enemy is my friend and how it demonstrates itself in various points throughout history. The
movie The Last Mohicans , which based of the bloody true event of the French and Indian War in
1757, is certainly no exception. The film portrays the interactions, as well as relationships between
the two Native American tribes, the French, and the English. In the beginning, there was no
separation of which tribe was which. Due to the lack of identification, there was no distinction of
tribes until the main Huron, Magua, led the British troop into a Huron ambush while escorting them
to the Fort. Unlike their peaceful comparison tribe, the Mohicans,... Show more content on

Despite having a somewhat uncertain alliance, the Natives treated the soldiers with respect, even
referring to commanders as their English Fathers . Frontiersmen, or colonists, also were also
honored, due to the tight bond they shared with the tribe in everyday life. In comparison to the
vengeful enemy, the small tribe acted on keeping the English colonists, as well as the military, safe
from the French and their ally. To counteract the quiet ambush style of the Hurons, many survival
techniques such as walking along a waterfall to mask the sound of movement were shown to the
few English to conceal their position. These procedures kept the few still standing English alive,
without the tops of their heads cut off (for the time being). Albeit most interactions were positive,
some were going against the unwritten alliance. Seeing many colonists houses decimated and the
inhabitants killed, it was understandable for the men to want to get back home and defend the
remaining frontier homes. However, the English commanders would not allow them to return
home to defend their own land, as previously promised. Seeing them so desperate and witnessing
the horrors of what the Hurons could do, the Mohicans decided to help the colonists escape from
the Fort, but for a price. Considered to now to be traitors, the English captains took them prisoner in
hand bindings, as if they had not saved them from certain death from French soldiers and Huron
tribesmen countless of times. Overall, the relationship was mostly beneficial for the English,
whereas the Mohicans only really prevented themselves from becoming prisoners of the king

What Does It Means To Be Cool
Cool Man! How do you define cool? What does it mean to be cool? I m talking about being, In
with the in crowd cool. Growing up the word cool, was not in the language yet as far as being
defined far out cool. I actually didn t start perceiving Cool until the1960s when the Hippies
started saying it to each other. I started using it when no one I knew was around me to hear me
say it. I thought I was cool saying it but not sure if I was qualified to use it, not being sure if I
were cool. I found out that I might have not been cool when others started laughing at me for
interjecting Cool man! during conversations. I still wanted to be cool, so I looked for other
things that were cool to be involved in. In the movie The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, I
watched Clint Eastwood with that little cigar in his mouth. I was in complete awe, Now that s
cool I thought. The next day I got myself some of those little stogies, popped one into my mouth
and looked into the mirror. I expected to see a Clint Eastwood facsimile looking back at me, instead

An Exploration Of The Pepcon Disaster And Its Aftermath
An Exploration of the PEPCON Disaster And Its Aftermath What began as normal repair work at
the Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada (PEPCON) in May of 1988, resulted
in devastation. PEPCON was one of two manufacturing facilities of Ammonium Perchlorate (AP),
located in Clark County, NV, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Las Vegas (Lilley,
2012). AP is an oxidizer that when combined with aluminum makes the base for solid state rocket
fuel (Dunbar, 2006). Due to the recent Space Shuttle Challengerdisaster, all space exploration by
NASA was halted, and a stockpile of around 4,000 tons of AP built up and was stored onsite

4). Each of these materials is makes AP act as a class A explosive as explained in Appendix B.
Also, within many buildings at the PEPCON facility, dust control was either minimal or
nonexistent, while cleaning was only performed before safety inspections (Lambert Alvares,
2003, p.7). This led to massive AP buildups on all flat surfaces which it is assumed exasperated
the situation further once the fire started (Lambert Alvares, 2003, p.7). The incredibly risky storage
practices of this powerful oxidizer made PEPCON a disaster waiting to happen.
The Facility And Its Safety Features The PEPCON facility was broken up into multiple
buildings, the most important of which to this incident is the batch drying building located in
the southwest portion of the facility (map of PEPCON is attached as Appendix A) (Routley,
n.d., p. 22). The batch dryer was used to blend and dry AP to prepare it for final packing,
however, this facility was not suitable for this work due to its construction. The building was
constructed of combustible fiberglass with steel supports (Routley, n.d., p.8). AP residue built up
on the fiberglass and accelerated the fire out of control once it started (Routley, n.d., p.8). This risk
was known by PEPCON as there had been previous fires in this building, however nothing was
done to deter future fires (Case

The Rise Of Organized Crime
The rise of organized crime In The United States By Jeremy King Welcome to the 1920s a truly
new era. Automobiles were becoming affordable to the average American the Great War had
ended and the nation was heading into a time of prosperity and temperance. On January 16th
1920 the production transportation and sale of intoxication liquors was made illegal. The nation
was dry, at least that s what the country wanted. In reality the nation was about to be flooded with
alcohol. This is when organized crime really starts to develop in the United States. In this paper
we will cover a few notorious players including Al Capone, Charlie Lucky Luciano, Myer
Lansky, and briefly Enoch Johnson. We will follow their lives from birth until their fate be it
death imprisonment or the departure from organized crime. Along the way we will meet other
key players including Johnny Torrio, Dean O Banion, James Big Jim Colosimo, Salvatore

Imperialism Essay
Imperialism played a major role in global development, especially in the late nineteenth and early
twentieth centuries. In order to better understand this system, it is important to first look at the
history behind it as well as a model of its implementation. Some Europeans advocated heavily for
imperialism, citing several reasons for doing so. However, other Europeans and other individuals
saw the dangers and issues that accompanied it and spoke against European imperialism.
Imperialism was a trend that gained popularity in the latter half of the nineteenth century. It is
defined as the process of nation building in which new territories, often overseas, were acquired
(textbook, 608). This was done in order to increase the influence of a country through greater
economic power. Germany, France, Russia, the United States, and Japan all tried to increase their
influence and compete with Brittan on a national stage by developing their trade industries as well
as seizing new territories (textbook, 608). This resulted in the movement of several influential
entities including capital, commodities, and information. The dissemination of information in the
new territory from the mother country was common. This was done in order to help the people
living in the area gain a better understanding of the colonizers. However, these colonies were not
considered equal to the mother country and had either reduced ability to govern themselves or
none at all (textbook 608 609). A good

Immigration And Immigration Movement
The history of immigration and emigration in the United States is closely linked to the history of
railroads. Immigrants were not only integral to the construction of the transcontinental railroads that
facilitated western expansion, but they also used the railroad to migrate west and to form new
immigrant settlements in western states and territories.
In the early 19 century, United States expanded westward, across the Mississippi
River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or
seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of
wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who
defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the
migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans
engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. The settlers were
motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the expedition
(1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France in 1803.
Their mission was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the land s
resources, make diplomatic contact with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a route
to the Pacific Ocean.
The railroads of the 19th century had transformed America in ways that awed and dazzled onlookers

Crash Of The Century Anthropology
A primary source that I found that relates with our course theme of horror and my concentration
of the unknown and unexpected is a documentary called Crash of the Century. This documentary
was created by Discovery World based on a true story. This documentary covers the unknown
line of events that led up to the fatal collision of two fully loaded Boeing 747s. On March 27,
1977, a KLM 747 and a Pan Am 747 were on route to the Gran Canaria International Airport when
unexpected calls were made by Canary Island Separatists that there were bombs at the airport.
Authorities closed down Gran Canaria International Airport and had to divert all flights to a
small airport in Los Rodeos. In total 5 large aircrafts were diverted to this small regional airport
that couldn t easily accommodate the aircrafts. Eventually after almost 4 hours from the original
diversion, the KLM was cleared to go the full length of a runway and do a 180В° turn. The Pan
Am flight was instructed to follow the KLM but take the 3rd exit off the runway to their left. The
Pan Am passed the 3rd exit off the runway and the KLM began taking off without proper
clearance. Nobody that day could ve predicted that the effects of an airport closing due to a bomb
threat would cause the horrific disaster of two Boeing 747s to collide and create the worst disaster
in aviation history.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Song Analysis Of The Song Hotel California
The song hotel California The song hotel California was released by an artist known as Eagles in
1976. The genre of the song is classic rock. It was written by Glenn Frey and Don Felder with help
of Don Henley. California is the setting of this song, even though it used to relate the entire
America. This song is all about the exaggeration of the American culture and some specific girls in
America. In addition, it touches the uneasy balance between commerce and art in America. Hotel
Californiais a metaphor for the LA high life and the cons and pros of living in the music industry.
Hotel Californiatells the story of a man driving along a super highway. On his way, the man gets
tired and decides to stop at a hotel which ends up being a pleasure palace with a sinister. While
listening, a casual listener would tend to think how lovely place California might be. The
listener might wish to crash California probably for a weekend, or order for a room service just
to enjoy the lovely place, Hoskyns, B. (2006). . But when someone listens this song keenly, he
or she might start wondering if the hotel is as good as Guantanamo or Palm Springs simply
because it says, you can check any time you like but you can never leave! As a matter of fact this
song has its dark side. The song Hotel California has got various lyrics. For instance, warm smell
of colitis which is direct reference to a plant known as colitis. Colitis is one the common desert

Genre Example Of A Brochure Sample
Introduction
The genre samples for the proposal of a new grocery store near the MNSU campus will be
explained below. An email, brochure, questionnaire and a flowchart are among the genre examples
explained. Each will give a brief explanation behind choosing that specific genre example.
Email
The first Genre Sample I chose, was to write an email to Eric Anderson, the mayor of the Mankato
City Council. I decided to write to Eric Anderson because I assumed he would be the best person to
contact about starting a proposal for a new grocery store near the Minnesota State University
Mankato campus. Eric Anderson could then give me some pointers on continuing this proposal
and what I should do next in being able to get this approved for construction. Within the email to
Eric Anderson, I stated the main purpose in writing this email to him. I proceeded to state the
reasoning why there is a need for a grocery store near the MNSU campus. Finally, I asked him for
any feedback on the proposal and that I looked forward to hearing back to him. At the end of the
email I tried to be as professional as possible and listed my name and then some contact
information of mine as well.
Brochure
The brochure I created will be available to the entire Mankato Community along with all the
students at Minnesota State University Mankato. This brochure will be available at many
locations throughout Mankato, with a major emphasis of them being around the MNSU campus.
Some specific spots people will be able to find these brochures are on the MNSU campus in the
CSU and surrounding business of the MNSU campus, like Kwik Trip as an example.
I created this brochure to show the reason why we should have a grocery store near the MNSU
campus. I wanted the brochure to be concise, but also wanted it to provide enough information to
the readers. I added some fun colors to the brochure to make it a little more visually appealing. I
also added some pictures throughout the brochure to give the reader some visual aids of the
proposed grocery store plan.

Air Canada Marketing Mix Essay
The textbook defines a marketing mix as the controllable set of activities, which are product, price,
place and promotion that a company uses to respond to the wants of its target market. (textbook pg
7) These activities can be influenced by decision makers to better position their product in the
market. Air Canada uses their marketingmix strategy to increase its competitive advantage by
protecting its brand, and meeting its strategic objectives.

of product and service offerings to satisfy customer s needs. (textbook 7) Air Canada offers a

their tickets, the time of the year, which seat class they would like to fly or whether they have a

customers pay the lowest price the region. They have a running statement stating, No need to

completing a ticket purchase on aircanada.com or aircanada.com/agents, you find a lower priced

customer satisfaction regarding pricing and in turn allows Air Canada to attracts customers to

this can also involve anything the consumer gives up for example time and energy in exchange for
the product or service (textbook 8). Given that Air Canada has a price guarantee their customers can

A Brief Note On The Khmer Rouge Regime
T By July 1992, the Khmer Rouge regime had taken a stance of non cooperation , thus causing
no PDK forces to be demobilized. Initially, the regime was on board for the disarmament process
and agreed to allow UN forces to mark minefields and enter UN vehicles and troops into the area.
However, once the process began and outside forces were to move in, the regime refused to
allow the Dutch and Pakistani forces into the area. The situation was made more stressful by the
PDK s refusal, as demobilization of the other two factions was at a lower rate than predicted,
weakening the mission s success. By 1993, the demobilization mission of the forces was stopped
all together, resulting in the FUNCINPEC and KPNLF forces to regroup and assemble... Show more

While the years between 1993 and 1998 lacked any implementation update of demobilization in the
peace agreement, it is evident that much of what was going on in the country was due to the halt in
the demobilization process.
Discrimination and mass murders of Vietnamese in Cambodia continued, and regional data on the
minority in the country illustrates the need for external actors to intervene. Hostage situations,
ethnic murders, large scale drug smuggling, and an immigration law that targeted Vietnamese in the
country are just some of the issues occurring in these 5 years. In June 1993 the Cambodia
Constitution was adopted and signed, which established Sihanouk as now King and outlined a
series of articles that aimed to address issues across the board. The articles protected free speech,
human rights of the Khmer citizens, sovereignty of the nation, and economic policy among many
other aspects. The anti Vietnamese discrimination was rising in Cambodia, often expressed through
hate speech or propaganda of people who blamed the Vietnamese for internal problems of the
country. Vietnamese made up about 5 percent of the population, and although attacks and killings
lasted for years in this interim period and was a huge issue, the constitution still seemed to lack
efficiency in addressing this issue. By 1998, the process of demobilization began once again, this
time with a more intense, calculated time table. Along with international financial

Savino V. Robertson Case Study
Savino v. Robertson Theodore W Brown SPT 610 Q4220 Sport Law 15TW4 May 3, 2015 Dr.
Brent Estes Savino v. Robertson Facts: Scott Robertson and John Savino were teammates on an
adult hockey team. Prior to the start of the game, the teams were warming up i.e. shot around
etc. Scott Robertson shot the hockey puck towards the goal, unfortunately the puck missed the
goal and hit John Savino in the face near his eye. As a result of the accident, Mr. Savino lost 80%
of the vision in his right eye. Mr. Savino decided to file a negligence suit against Mr. Robertson.
He alleged that Mr. Robertson violated the league rules by shooting the puck at the goal without a
goalie being present in the goal and warning everyone that he was going to shoot the puck at the
goal. Mr. Savino reported that this was an established rule for the Northbrook Men s Summer
League which is the league that their hockey team belonged to. Issues: (1) Whether a plaintiff must

his life how he wanted to. But his way. Nothing would stop him. Nothing would ruin his plans.
And he would not chest himself. He had one way to do it and one way only. Chris was a very

wanted. He spend every day looking for different berries, and hunting. He also kept a daily
journal of his daily challenges. On his way home after proving himself, he went to go cross the
river, which was frozen when he first started his adventure, but now it was a fast stream. But that
didn t necessarily stop him. He went back and tried to find another way around. He began
feeling sick, very weak. His journal entries mentioned danger, and scared. In conclusion, in my
opinion I feel like McCandless would not have gone off if his relations with his parents were closer,
and they would have stopped him from going. Also, if he wasn t so determined. McCandless was a
young free man who wouldn t let anything get in the way of stopping him. Many of us may live to

Carrie is an Intense and Amazing Book by Stephen King
The book that I chose for my 3rd quarter book report was Carrie by: Stephen King. The book is
about a sixteen year old girl name Carrietta White, who lives in Chamberlain, Maine with her
mother Margaret White. Carrie attends Bates High school which isn t really a pleasant experience
for her, at school Carrieis constantly mocked and teased by her peers because of the way she
dresses, looks, and her weight. At home things are much worse for Carriebecause of her overly
religious and abusive mother Margaret. When she is accused of being sinful or disrespectful to
her mother Carrie is constantly put into the closet where her mother locks her in there for hours
until Carrie has prayed and asked god for her forgiveness. Margaret doesn t want Carrie to
experience regular things her peers do because she is afraid that Carrie will meet a boy and have
an unwanted child, just like she did. Carrie soon experiences her telekinetic powers in an
incident at school, and begins to use them on household objects such as chairs, tables, and
books. As the story develops Carrie s powers become stronger and Chris Hargensen plots revenge
on Carrie, for getting her detention and not being allowed to attend the prom. As prom night
comes around Carrie ends up going with Tommy Ross and has a great time, until she has a cruel
prank played on her, and ends up using her gift as a weapon to kill and destroy. Who: Sue Snell is

The Knife of Never Letting Go is the first in a science fiction series of the same name and what I

Google Human Capital Essay
Human resources and human capital are different. Human resources management is the function by
which the human capital is guided and directed. As previously stated, human capital is made up of
the knowledge and skills that people possess. When a company hires an employee they are
essentially leasing the talent that the individual owns. The company does not own the employee,
their skills or abilities. Human capital emphasizes valuing people that work for the companies as
assets; employees that add to the value of the organization, and when efficiently managed
contributes to the overall success of the company in terms of employee productivity and
contribution. The role of human resourcesin valuing human capital is mainly to figure out ways to
attract and recruit the best people, find ways to make them better at what they do and bring the best
out of them.
Google appears to be a great organization to work for. As a company that thrives from the
creativity and innovation of people, they really seem to put forth an effort towards creating an
atmosphere in which the talent or human capital has an opportunity to flourish. It is quite clear
that Google will not hesitate to go to great lengths to promote a fun and inclusive environment
where the workers, or as they prefer to call them smart creatives , are able to feel like they matter.
They have decided to stay away from the traditional aspect of corporate America and chose to

The Knowledge Of God s Existence And Fundamental...
Using solely reason, we can obtain genuine knowledge about God s existence and fundamental
characteristics. Although the more complete knowledge of God unveiled in revelation cannot be
strictly proven through the use of reason, this knowledge is consistent with that which we have
come to know through reason. Therefore, it is entirely reasonable to hold the Catholic narrative of
God as truth.
Modern society, however, insists that only what is proven through science is worth believing. This
attitude stems from the belief that the scientific method employed in science is the only clear cut
method for determining truth. This is why renowned physicist Stephen Hawking s scientific
explanation for the complexity and origin of the universe is well respected by many. Hawking s
Scientific Determinism supposes that we are in fact biological machines whose decisions are
determined by the chemical reactions that occur within the body, thus eliminating the concept of
free will. Furthermore, Scientific Determinism effectively removes God from the picture by
insisting that scientific laws cannot be laws if [they] only hold when some supernatural being
decides not to intervene. Hawking s theory is supposed to be trustworthy because it relies on the
scientific method of determining causes and their effects. However, this viewpoint, as scientific as
it may seem, fails to provide multiple causes or explanations to critical questions. As Thomas Nagel
points out, Hawking fails to

Compare And Contrast The Poisonwood Bible
Contrasting Poisonwood Life isn t black and white and this is a sentiment that the book The
Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver tried to express. The aforementioned book is about an
American family from Georgia, which leaves the comfort of the USA to go to a missionary
mission in the country of Congo, in the town of Kilanga. Throughout the novel, it can be seen how
the Congo either changes or reveals the true personalities of its 5 narrators (Orleanna, Rachel,
Leah, Adah and Ruth May). This can be seen through the use of different motifs, some which even
contradict each other help bring life into this novel by creating complex characters and revealing
how true personalities are in their own way as, state before, life is not black and white,... Show more

This is apparent by the use of the character s perspective about nature and the ultimate result it
has upon them. This is in its most apparent shape when Orleanna says We aimed for no more
than to have dominion over every creature that moved upon the earth... Now you laugh, day and
night, while you gnaw on my bones. But what else could we have thought? Only that it began
and ended with us. What do we know, even now? (Kingsolver 10). This quote by Orleanna about
nature, shows the true power of it regarding the motifs of freedom and captivity. This is seen
because of the fact that there is a progression and a change of thought that quickly evolves from
the family and her thinking that they had the freedom to have dominion over nature, to she
surrendering to nature and saying that she is captive forever because of nature that nature
instead of being loving, betrayed her and is now seeking for the forgiveness of it. Another way
this is seen it when Leah said Its heavenly paradise in the Congo, and sometimes I want to live
here forever, (104). This extract from the novel at first glance may not seem like an important
passage, but it is considering the fact that she feels that she has the motifs of freedom and love
at her grasp as she feels free in the Congo and loves it. This ultimately will not last as their
contrasting motifs will eventually kick in making her a prisoner of the Congo by her own merits
keeping her captive in there for the rest of her life, while also betraying her because the land and
the nature inside it made her lose her little sister. Finally, this connects to the thesis and the other
paragraphs because of the fact that it shows this hope versus reality situation which is created when
these motifs are combined, furthermore it shows the colorfulness of life in the book because of the
fact that it shows the way

eaters showed a 300 percent risk of colon cancer in a Harvard investigation whereas a study done

shows that meat consumption often allows overabundance of protein in the body which leads to

The Invisible Mother And Lennie Analysis
The Invisible Mother and Lennie
When a person thinks of a true motherly bond they most likely think of warmth, happiness,
someone safe, and reliable. In of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, Lennie has to live a life
without his mother and because of that it affects the rest of his life . Not having access to the
sacred feeling of a mother s love can alter anyone s life. That is why Lennie realizes he needs
something to fill that hole in his heart with something that at least resembles a mother s love. If
that bond is taken away then a person is left bare to the elements of the cold harsh world. There is
something about soft creatures that gives Lennie a sense of serenity and inner peace. The inner
peace he gets is the reason why Lennie from Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, loves mice,
puppies, rabbits, and anything soft because it represents a true motherly love he never had. Mice
in the novel has a deeper symbolic meaning than just it being a petite pet. What Lennie loves
about mice is their reliability and stability. These soft natured mice are so easy to find for Lennie.
Mice also have a motherly quality that Lennie never had. A true mother is known for always being
there no matter what. In the beginning of the book Lennie and George are walking towards their
new job, Lennie is holding a mouse but George catches him, George says You gonna give me that
mouse or do i have to sock you? ... Lennie reluctantly reached in his pocket. I don t know why I
can t keep it. It ain t nobody s mouse. I didn t steal it. I found it lyin right beside the road (9). As
long as Lennie is looking for mice then the mice are alway there for Lennie. The only thing
stopping him most of the time is George. That is why Lennie needs to sneak around to get what
he loves. Even though he loves the mice he is a danger to them. In a way when Lennie is with
the mice he feels like he has mother again but when a mouse bites him he goes back to reality and
kills it. When he kills the mice he feels remorse and then makes the desperate search to find
something to replace it. It s important because Lennie never had an accepting person s shoulder to
cry on. Even though Lennie has a mental handicap the need for reliability is evident.

Cristina Garcia s Dreaming in Cuban tells the story about three generations of a Cuban family and
their different views provoked by the Cuban revolution. Though part of the same family, an outsider
might classify them as adversaries judging by relationships between one another, the exiled family

businesses profits, taxes have not been as effective in raising revenue as the Cuban government
originally hoped. In the future, the Cuban government is looking toward altering the tax structure
in order to make it a more consistent revenue stream in the future27. As overarching as this sounds,
the influence of the Cuban government does not stop there. Cuban government also plays an
extremely active role in limiting the civil liberties of its citizens. Since January 2015, when Cuba
and the United States reestablished ties, the Cuban government has gotten a tad more lax on their
imposition on the lives of its

Comparing Hemingway s Hills Like White Elephants And Cat...
Ernest Hemingway s Hills like White Elephants and Cat in the Rain have similar elements with
regard to the characters, the settings, and the conclusions. Hemingway s Hills like White
Elephants and Cat in the Rain are similar in the way s he has the women, men, and secondary
characters interact and how each one plays a role in the story. Both women in Hemingway s
stories want to have a baby, while in Hills like White Elephants the women seems unsure in the
beginning by the end it is clear she is talking about keeping her baby. She starts with a subtle
undertone while she is talking to her significant other but by the end of their conversation, you can
tell she is agitated so much, so that she says, Would you please please please please please please
please stop talking? (Hemingway, Hills 278). When the man continues to try to talk about the
situation, she threatens to scream. In Cat in the Rain a women is trying... Show more content on

In Hills like White Elephants , the foreign setting is used to show that the couple have a mobile
life, they are never in one spot for too long evidence of this is the suit case that has all the travel
stickers on it. This helps the women in the relationship and the reader come to the conclusion
that she would like to start settling down, and that having a family may in fact be what she
wants. Accompanied with the foreign setting is the symbolism Hemmingway uses. His use of
symbolism is almost as if he is telling a story with in a story. In Cat in the Rain , he has two
strong symbols, the cat and the rain. Hemmingway uses the cat as a symbol for a baby; the cat
is helpless and needs someone to take care of it just as a baby would. His use of rain in this story
is a symbol of fertility; this is why no one wants her to get wet while trying to get the cat.
Hemmingway uses the setting and use of symbolism in the setting to allow the reader to speculate
and come to a conclusion

Essay about Defining Power and Politics
Defining Power and Politics
Since man began to talk politics was born, politics is the social study and interaction with another
being.
Politics is the process and method of gaining or maintaining support for public or common action.
Although it is generally applied to governments, politics is also observed in all human group
interactions including corporate, academic, and religious. It is also social relations involving
authority and power, the study of government and other political units,
It is also the study of conflict resolution, in the modern world, people argue over many beliefs,
interests and values, the aim of politics is to remove this conflict to produce a general agreement ...

Unlike the children, the two nations are conflicting over the borders of their countries, if one way
to resolve this conflict was to rewrite the map so their borders don t conflict, that would solve the
problem, but what about the gap that is now left, this involves moral values, because what happens
if people lived there, they now aren t under the guidance of the state, they become refugees, this
conflicts with the two nations values, and moral beliefs, who should now take in the refugees?
Should they be split?.
Political activity can spring from a set of values, and beliefs as well as self interest, so in other
words the conflict might be better unsolved than solved because if solved, it would go against
peoples values and beliefs ,which is worse than conflicting interest.
But politics is the art of the possible, one of those nations if it wanted to resolve that conflict it
could have used a less diplomatic way, it could have used coercion, force in similar terms, but to be
able to use force, you need power, but what is it and why is it so difficult to define?
If people have power they have the ability to influence another persons behaviour even if that
person doesn t want to do it, though a threat or sanctions or manipulation, in political situations
people with power have the ability to reward those who

Pros And Cons Of Artificial Turf Fields
Artificial turf fields are becoming very popular throughout the world with over 5,500 fields in
North America . Turf fields are mostly being used for soccer and many of the major clubs around
the world are using turf fields. Are these fields that are becoming so popular throughout the world
good for the environment, our health, and the community?
As with any major issue there is always a debate with two sides. In San Francisco the divide is
between the soccer players and the environmentalists. The soccer players want more artificial turf
because it gives them a reliable safe and easy way to participate in the sport they love. The
environmentalists say that artificial turf fields are harmful to the community because they leach
toxic chemicals into the air and the water. Also, the use of turf in children s playgrounds exposes
kids to chemicals that are very harmful at a young age. The voters decided to install artificial turf
fields. The response was overwhelmingly positive from the soccer players but from the people
who wanted the best for the environment were disappointment. There was a great divide caused by
the debate around artificial fields. It is never good for a community to ... Show more content on

The plastic may not be so good for the environment but the infill is what the manufacturers call
crumb rubber, rubber made out of recycled car tires. This is a great use for something that would
otherwise sit in a landfill if it were not repurposed for artificial turf fields. Also, artificial turf
fields are good for the environment because the do not have to be watered and they require less
maintenance. Turf doesn t use pesticides so those harmful chemicals don t have an affect on health
and the water table. Turf is more durable and therefore needs less maintenance. These are some
great aspects of artificial turf but there are also many bad

Brief Encounter With A Person Who Changed My Life
Every day we interact with many different people. Some encounters are brief and some will be so
important that they will impact you for the rest of your life. I once had a brief encounter that turned
into a life changing event. I has an encounter with a person who profoundly changed my future
.Through the meekness that he had while dealing with my fragile broken heart. The countless hours
he spent mentoring and encouraging me through the hardest times in my life.
It was an ordinary yet cold day in October of 2008 with the temperature reaching 53 degrees. I
could see children waiting on the side of a dirt road to board the big yellow school bus. They wore
big fur jackets, boots, mittens, hats and had long double layered scarves wrapped around their
small necks. The school bus speed down the one way street and pulled over. Stumbled out the bus
for his morning cigarette while the children fought over the half upholstered wore out seats for
the best place to sit. With a hoarse voice from years of cigarette smoking the driver screamed out,
children stop running , then slowly made his way back to the discolored bus and drove off. It was
there on the side of the unpaved road that my ordinary day took a turn. That was the day I met my
hero and the person who would profoundly change my life.
He stood 5 9, athletic built. His light brown almond shaped eyes screamed mystery and he walked
as if he was gliding on a skating ring. When he spoke it was of knowledge that was

The Concept Of Cloud Computing
1.Introduction Over the years, computing concepts changing from distributed to parallel to grid
to cloud computing. The evolution of computing is shown in Figure 1. Now a day, people
choose cloud computing because of the advantages they get from cloud computing. The
advantages are scalability, reduced management efforts, on demand resource allocation and
flexible pricing model (pay as you go). Cloud computing has three service models: Software as a
Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS). The basic
concept of cloud computing and services is shown in Figure 2. Example of application or services

Have you wonder where the power of technology and computers and all of the applications came
from? Well there are a lot of computer applications like local security applications, protocols, well
I am going to explain some security applications to you. There are many kinds of different security
applications. I am going to explain two of different applications Linux and security policy settings.
Now what are security policies? Security policy settings in Microsoft could be used as part of all of
our security implementation to make sure and to secure domain controllers, servers, client
computers, and other resources in the whole computer world. One of the security applications in
Microsoft is security compliance manager what is that? Well security compliance manager is a
downloadable tool to our computer that will help us deploy, plan , operate and manage the security
baselines for windows client and server operating settings and of course for Microsoft settings.
What does it contain? It contains the complete database of recommended security settings methods
to customize the baselines and the option to implement the important settings in multiple formats.
The next thing is called security configuration wizard. It is an application where you go through
the process of applying, editing, or rolling back a security policy the security policy that we could
create with SCW is an .xml file but when applied, network

Maslow Hierarchy Of Needs Analysis
Maslow s (1943, 1954) hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five
tier model of human needs, often depicted as hierarchical levels within a pyramid.
Maslow stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs and that some needs take
precedence over others. Our most basic need is for physical survival, and this will be the first
thing that motivates our behaviour. Once that level is fulfilled the next level up is what motivates
us, and so on. maslow s hierarchy of needs five stage pyramide
This five stage model can be divided into deficiency needs and growth needs. The first four levels
are often referred to as deficiency needs (D needs), and the top level is known as growth or being
needs (B needs).

5. Self Actualization needs realizing personal potential, self fulfillment, seeking personal growth
and peak experiences. maslow s hierarchy of needs five stage pyramide
Maslow posited that human needs are arranged in a hierarchy:
It is quite true that man lives by bread alone †when there is no bread. But what happens to
man’s desires when there is plenty of bread and when his belly is chronically filled?
At once other (and â€oehigherâ€) needs emerge and these, rather than physiological
hungers, dominate the organism. And when these in turn are satisfied, again new (and still
â€oehigherâ€) needs emerge and so on. This is what we mean by saying that the basic
human needs are organized into a hierarchy of relative prepotency (Maslow, 1943, p. 375).
The expanded hierarchy of needs:
It is important to note that Maslow s (1943, 1954) five stage model has been expanded to include
cognitive and aesthetic needs (Maslow, 1970a) and later transcendence needs (Maslow, 1970b).
Changes to the original five stage model are highlighted and include a seven stage model and a
eight stage model, both developed during the 1960 s and

Consequences Of Colonization Of Africa
Through the19th century to the start of the 20th century, Africa was at the mercy of Europe
imperialism. Politics and economics led powerful European nations to colonize the continent of
Africa. What was later coined as The Scramble for Africa , led powerful nations to aggressively
take over the continent and exploit its materials, people, and land. The European powers that took
control of most of Africaincluded Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
The continent was divided and given to these European countries in 1884 through the Berlin
Conference. The brutal rule by imperial command created a continent that still to this day deals
with the lasting presence of the European takeover. Although not all effects of imperialism were
bad or malicious, many were leaving an image of the era as psychologically damaging to Africans
as well as to the land in general. Whether the effects of colonization left the continent in better or
worse shape than it would have been without European imperialism, the colonization of Africa is a
part of history that will remain infamous so long as it is remembered It is common for people to
assume that all of African colonialismwas the same. While most of the process of colonizing the
continent did involve a lot of tragedy and hardship, the type of government set up was inherently
different depending on the country that inhabited an area. For example South Africa was settled in
the late 18th century originally by Dutch

My Math Experience
My earliest math memory was in Elementary school; it was a time that I completely understood
what I was supposed to do (math wise at least). It was in middle school that I was introduced to
different math equations and formulas. At the time I had enjoyed the way that these can be
applied to the shapes that were given and the variety of ways to solve one problem. In 2013 I was
accepted into Mt. Edgecumbe High School, where the math program was one of the many aspects
that were different in comparison to the village educational expectations that I was accustomed to.
My freshman year was the beginning of a burgeoning distaste and struggle in mathematics.
The ninth grade is when I had been placed into a year long Algebra I class. The first few weeks
went smoothly, due to what I was taught at my hometown, but then I started to fall behind when we
began the computer program for math. This was the first time that I had done anything similar to
this and it was difficult to say the least. There were conflicting educational goals between the
teaching happening in the classroom and the electronic lessons on the desktop. However, fear of
failure was a major justification on my dedication to have an adequate grade in the class, even with
the frustration that came along with it. In the course of the year, I had become well educated in
many math areas. Nonetheless, now having the opportunity to look back, I now see that the
electronic program had not taught me an abundance of math as

Literary And Cultural Theory During The Modern And...
Theories investigating subjectivity have dominated the field of literary and cultural theory during
the modern and postmodern period. The way we understand subjectivity effects the way we
understand the world around us, whether the subject is viewed in the Cartesian manner as a fixed
entity, with a pre existing nature that is not affected by the discourses that surround the it, or if we
view the subjectas one produced in and through the forces of power available in the time period,
whether they be political, social or linguistic. The dominant model of understanding the subject up
till the 20th century has been the model provided by Descartes, one where the self is understood as
being independent and unsupported, where it is considered a private and autonomous experience
deriving meaning and substance on its own without the assistance or influence of external factors.
According to Descartes true self knowledge cannot rely on the contingent and fallible perceptual
ideas that are not essential to one s true self. During the age of Enlightenment reason and empirical
knowledge were foregrounded, and were focused upon as the most important factors in
understanding the world, consequently the individual was also emphasized as the creator of
meaning. Human beings were understood as being born with great potential, and a stable, true self
that if given the right to its unrestrained expression, could flourish and achieve anything.
Heidegger was one of the first thinkers to

Colloidal Silver Nutritional Supplements Essay
Colloidal silver as a nutritional supplement became a news item again this year with the death of
one of its most famous proponents. Paul Karason died in September of 2013, Karason gained
fame after appearing on the Today Show in 2008 for having blue skin due to argyria (Netburn.
2013). Karason s argyria was caused by his ingestion of silver, he drank colloidal silver to treat his
dermatitis (Netburn. 2013). Colloidal silver has been marketed on the internet as a treatment for a
very wide variety of illnesses, one manual claims that it treats over 650 known conditions (Claussen,
2012, p.14). This paper will investigate the background of the treatment, methods of use, benefits,

The prevalence of argyria prior to 1800 has not been documented, but it was reported to be
associated with a reduced mortality rate during epidemics of plague and other infectious diseases.
(Alexander, 2009, p.290)
During the period 1800 to 1900 dressings with silver nitrate were used to treat skin ulcers and
other types of wounds (Alexander, 2009). In the 1880 s, Doctor Carl Siegmund Franz Crede
introduced the use of silver nitrate eye drops to successfully prevent gonorrheal ophthalmia in
newborns (Alexander, 2009, p.291). In the period between 1900 and 1940, colloidal silver was
consumed by patients and silver was also given intravenously; but it was later discovered in high
doses parenterally, the silver could cause gastrointestinal disturbances, convulsions or death
(Alexander, 2009, p.291). The use discovery and use of antibiotics has resulted in greatly
decreased use of parenteral silver products by today s allopathic doctors.
Treatment Methods Kevin Trudeau in his book Natural cures they don t want you to know about ,
writes that gargling with colloidal silver is a treatment for bacterial infection, viral infection,
Candida and even for parasites (2004). The author provides no studies to confirm his
recommendations and the efficacy of the treatment on parasites.

  • 2. Secrets and Lies Essay Is this Life? Resolutions, Humour and Family in Mike Leigh s Secrets Lies In this essay I would like to argue that in Secrets and Lies Mike Leigh is suggesting that secrets cause tensions in families and destroys relationships between family members. Firstly, I would like to consider that it is actually true according my own experience because there is been some lies and hidden secrets in my family as well and once they are exposed, it causes embarrassments to those whom are affected. Secondly, I believe secrets can form a negative and positive impact once they are exposed because, it can be a turning point where families consider reuniting and leave the past behind which obviously happens in Secrets and Lies. Sometimes it happens... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This reflects to Rosenbaum s quote where he asks himself why Why, then, have I liked Secrets and Lies so much that I ve been able to see it three times with pleasure, and found it as gripping the third time as the first? (Rosenbaum) It is how Leigh let his actors create an environment he looking for, says the author! In my opinion, I believe Rosenbaum is amazed about Leigh s work because, the producer reveals how he simply does to make his movies become independent . I assume that most producers scribble down a script and give it to their actors when it s done and here Leigh does the opposite and the results prove to come out great. In this paragraph, I emphasize on the difference between Secrets and Lies in and Hollywood movies and what others say about his work. Rosenbaum argues that, Set Secrets and Lies alongside most recent Hollywood pictures it looks like a masterpiece, but considered in relation to the best of Leigh say, Meantime or Grown ups or High Hopes or the best of recent non Hollywood films, it looks rather thin. (Rosenbaum) As the author puts it, Secrets and Lies don t have enough detailed information to be classified as one of Leigh s best movies because, he claims that it not one that sticks in one s ... • 3. Jung Typology Test And Personality Temperament The Jung Typology Test determined that my personality temperament was ISFJ, being 41 percent introvert, 22 percent sensing, 6 percent feeling, and 25 percent judging. My Keirsey Temperament is the SJ or Guardians group, meaning that I am a protector and nurturer. This paper will discuss the strengths and weaknesses of this personality group, as well as an application of its relevance in the workplace. This paper will conclude with a discussion of how to apply the Christian worldview for the successful implementation of my personality temperament in the workplace. Project One: Personality Type and Temperament Step 1 I Introvert The Jung Typology Test (1998) found that I am 41 percent introverted. Kroeger, Thuesen, and Rutledge (2002) describe introverts as needing time to think things over when faced with a decision, and they prefer stating their opinions without being interrupted. This is definitely accurate for me, because I do not like to jump to quick decisions, I need time to think over what I have to say, and if it is something important, then I do prefer rehearsing it a few times before discussing it with someone else. Kroeger et al. (2002) state that introverts enjoy having time to themselves and will often need time alone to recharge after engaging in social events. In addition, introverts are usually described as being shy, and enjoy sharing special events with one or two close friends (Kroeger et al., 2002, p.18). I enjoy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The British anticipated conflict therefore their efforts to abolish the slave trade in the city of Lagos are minimal. The British instead used features of domestic slavery to justify their approach to it, and created policies. • 8. Narrative Essay On Table Dinner On a Friday night almost nine clocks. I and my family were getting the table dinner ready for our guest for tonight. Everyone seems to be happy that we have company coming in. the bell door rang, I rush to the door to open it. Thomas Jefferson The Founding Father arrived. I was honored to have him in my house. I expected all of them to come together at the same time, so we don t have to wait for others in order to eat. I took him to his seat and I told him to make yourself at home. The doorbell rang again, I opened the door. There was C.S. Lewis, his Holinessthe Dalai Lama, Gretchen Rubin and Jennifer Michael Hechtstanding in line. I was like thank god they came at the same time. I took them to their seats. Before we began eating I told them how happy am I see them and to eat with them. Everyone started eating, While I was eating I was thinking about how happy am I. I asked myself why am I happy right now. Then, I asked everyone at the table, what makes people happy? Is it freedom, money, or pleasure and desire. Jefferson pulls his head up from the dinner plate and said: that s a good question . According to Jefferson freedom, what makes people happy. The others kept eating than C.S Lewis stopped eating. He looked at me, then at Jefferson. Lewis kind of agreed with that, but not to the point where your action hurt others (228). • 9. The Problem of Media and Violence Violence has become a serious problem in America. From Sandy Hook Elementary to the Aurora Colorado shootings, terrorism has crept deeper into the culture. From 1982 1992 there were eight incidences of terrorism. From 2002 2012 there have been seventeen (Geigner). The growth at which these events are spreading is exponential. Modern terrorismdid not begin until approximately the 1950s when it changed from guerrilla tactics used by a nation to the to the type common today, non state terrorism. These assailants fight for no flag, have no rules, and will do whatever they feel like at any given moment (Zalman). The violencethese radicals produce is cataclysmic. However, instead of being distressed by this violence, citizens latch onto the offenders. They give the assailant the fame and popularity that he or she desires. For example, within hours of Boston Bombings, the faces of the two assassins were broadcasted everywhere in the media, and rightly so. The police needed the help of the public to find and capture these criminals. But constant media coverage three weeks after the event was unnecessary. Many say that sensationalist media, not gun control is the reason for attacks of violence. Those who terrorize the nation are held up almost as heroes. Their names are plastered on every news station around the world. Assailants will always find ways to kill even with the extreme control of guns. But, without the publicity and the fame, psychopaths would not need to kill innocent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Last Mohicans The Last of the Mohicans Essay Everyone knows the famously old Arabic proverb, The enemy of my enemy is my friend and how it demonstrates itself in various points throughout history. The movie The Last Mohicans , which based of the bloody true event of the French and Indian War in 1757, is certainly no exception. The film portrays the interactions, as well as relationships between the two Native American tribes, the French, and the English. In the beginning, there was no separation of which tribe was which. Due to the lack of identification, there was no distinction of tribes until the main Huron, Magua, led the British troop into a Huron ambush while escorting them to the Fort. Unlike their peaceful comparison tribe, the Mohicans,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite having a somewhat uncertain alliance, the Natives treated the soldiers with respect, even referring to commanders as their English Fathers . Frontiersmen, or colonists, also were also honored, due to the tight bond they shared with the tribe in everyday life. In comparison to the vengeful enemy, the small tribe acted on keeping the English colonists, as well as the military, safe from the French and their ally. To counteract the quiet ambush style of the Hurons, many survival techniques such as walking along a waterfall to mask the sound of movement were shown to the few English to conceal their position. These procedures kept the few still standing English alive, without the tops of their heads cut off (for the time being). Albeit most interactions were positive, some were going against the unwritten alliance. Seeing many colonists houses decimated and the inhabitants killed, it was understandable for the men to want to get back home and defend the remaining frontier homes. However, the English commanders would not allow them to return home to defend their own land, as previously promised. Seeing them so desperate and witnessing the horrors of what the Hurons could do, the Mohicans decided to help the colonists escape from the Fort, but for a price. Considered to now to be traitors, the English captains took them prisoner in hand bindings, as if they had not saved them from certain death from French soldiers and Huron tribesmen countless of times. Overall, the relationship was mostly beneficial for the English, whereas the Mohicans only really prevented themselves from becoming prisoners of the king ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Growing up the word cool, was not in the language yet as far as being defined far out cool. I actually didn t start perceiving Cool until the1960s when the Hippies started saying it to each other. I started using it when no one I knew was around me to hear me say it. I thought I was cool saying it but not sure if I was qualified to use it, not being sure if I were cool. I found out that I might have not been cool when others started laughing at me for interjecting Cool man! during conversations. I still wanted to be cool, so I looked for other things that were cool to be involved in. In the movie The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, I watched Clint Eastwood with that little cigar in his mouth. I was in complete awe, Now that s cool I thought. The next day I got myself some of those little stogies, popped one into my mouth and looked into the mirror. • 12. An Exploration Of The Pepcon Disaster And Its Aftermath An Exploration of the PEPCON Disaster And Its Aftermath What began as normal repair work at the Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada (PEPCON) in May of 1988, resulted in devastation. PEPCON was one of two manufacturing facilities of Ammonium Perchlorate (AP), located in Clark County, NV, approximately 10 miles southeast of downtown Las Vegas (Lilley, 2012). AP is an oxidizer that when combined with aluminum makes the base for solid state rocket fuel (Dunbar, 2006). Due to the recent Space Shuttle Challengerdisaster, all space exploration by NASA was halted, and a stockpile of around 4,000 tons of AP built up and was stored onsite (Lilley, 2012). Each of these materials is makes AP act as a class A explosive as explained in Appendix B. Also, within many buildings at the PEPCON facility, dust control was either minimal or nonexistent, while cleaning was only performed before safety inspections (Lambert Alvares, 2003, p.7). This led to massive AP buildups on all flat surfaces which it is assumed exasperated the situation further once the fire started (Lambert Alvares, 2003, p.7). The incredibly risky storage practices of this powerful oxidizer made PEPCON a disaster waiting to happen. The Facility And Its Safety Features The PEPCON facility was broken up into multiple buildings, the most important of which to this incident is the batch drying building located in the southwest portion of the facility (map of PEPCON is attached as Appendix A) (Routley, n.d., p. 22). The batch dryer was used to blend and dry AP to prepare it for final packing, however, this facility was not suitable for this work due to its construction. The building was constructed of combustible fiberglass with steel supports (Routley, n.d., p.8). AP residue built up on the fiberglass and accelerated the fire out of control once it started (Routley, n.d., p.8). This risk was known by PEPCON as there had been previous fires in this building, however nothing was done to deter future fires (Case ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Automobiles were becoming affordable to the average American the Great War had ended and the nation was heading into a time of prosperity and temperance. On January 16th 1920 the production transportation and sale of intoxication liquors was made illegal. The nation was dry, at least that s what the country wanted. • 14. Imperialism Essay Imperialism played a major role in global development, especially in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In order to better understand this system, it is important to first look at the history behind it as well as a model of its implementation. Some Europeans advocated heavily for imperialism, citing several reasons for doing so. However, other Europeans and other individuals saw the dangers and issues that accompanied it and spoke against European imperialism. Imperialism was a trend that gained popularity in the latter half of the nineteenth century. It is defined as the process of nation building in which new territories, often overseas, were acquired (textbook, 608). This was done in order to increase the influence of a country through greater economic power. Germany, France, Russia, the United States, and Japan all tried to increase their influence and compete with Brittan on a national stage by developing their trade industries as well as seizing new territories (textbook, 608). This resulted in the movement of several influential entities including capital, commodities, and information. The dissemination of information in the new territory from the mother country was common. This was done in order to help the people living in the area gain a better understanding of the colonizers. However, these colonies were not considered equal to the mother country and had either reduced ability to govern themselves or none at all (textbook 608 609). A good ... Immigrants were not only integral to the construction of the transcontinental railroads that facilitated western expansion, but they also used the railroad to migrate west and to form new immigrant settlements in western states and territories. In the early 19 century, United States expanded westward, across the Mississippi River and later to the Pacific Ocean. These western lands, either was purchased, won in battles, or seized outright from Indian tribes and other nations. For many years migrants came in search of wealth and better opportunities and very often clashed either with Mexicans or Indians who defended their homeland and traditions. From the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 through the migration that resulted from the Transcontinental Railroad and the Homestead Act, Americans engaged in what Theodore Roosevelt termed the Great Leap Westward. The settlers were motivated to expand to the west after Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led the expedition (1804 to 1806) through the Louisiana purchase territory that was acquired from France in 1803. Their mission was assigned by President Thomas Jefferson with the intention to assess the land s resources, make diplomatic contact with the Indians, and search for the Northwest Passage, a route to the Pacific Ocean. The railroads of the 19th century had transformed America in ways that awed and dazzled onlookers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Crash Of The Century Anthropology A primary source that I found that relates with our course theme of horror and my concentration of the unknown and unexpected is a documentary called Crash of the Century. This documentary was created by Discovery World based on a true story. This documentary covers the unknown line of events that led up to the fatal collision of two fully loaded Boeing 747s. On March 27, 1977, a KLM 747 and a Pan Am 747 were on route to the Gran Canaria International Airport when unexpected calls were made by Canary Island Separatists that there were bombs at the airport. Authorities closed down Gran Canaria International Airport and had to divert all flights to a small airport in Los Rodeos. In total 5 large aircrafts were diverted to this small regional airport that couldn t easily accommodate the aircrafts. Eventually after almost 4 hours from the original diversion, the KLM was cleared to go the full length of a runway and do a 180В° turn. The Pan Am flight was instructed to follow the KLM but take the 3rd exit off the runway to their left. The Pan Am passed the 3rd exit off the runway and the KLM began taking off without proper clearance. Nobody that day could ve predicted that the effects of an airport closing due to a bomb threat would cause the horrific disaster of two Boeing 747s to collide and create the worst disaster in aviation history.... • 17. The Song Analysis Of The Song Hotel California The song hotel California The song hotel California was released by an artist known as Eagles in 1976. The genre of the song is classic rock. It was written by Glenn Frey and Don Felder with help of Don Henley. California is the setting of this song, even though it used to relate the entire America. This song is all about the exaggeration of the American culture and some specific girls in America. In addition, it touches the uneasy balance between commerce and art in America. Hotel Californiais a metaphor for the LA high life and the cons and pros of living in the music industry. Hotel Californiatells the story of a man driving along a super highway. On his way, the man gets tired and decides to stop at a hotel which ends up being a pleasure palace with a sinister. While listening, a casual listener would tend to think how lovely place California might be. The listener might wish to crash California probably for a weekend, or order for a room service just to enjoy the lovely place, Hoskyns, B. (2006). . But when someone listens this song keenly, he or she might start wondering if the hotel is as good as Guantanamo or Palm Springs simply because it says, you can check any time you like but you can never leave! • 20. Genre Example Of A Brochure Sample Introduction The genre samples for the proposal of a new grocery store near the MNSU campus will be explained below. An email, brochure, questionnaire and a flowchart are among the genre examples explained. Each will give a brief explanation behind choosing that specific genre example. Email The first Genre Sample I chose, was to write an email to Eric Anderson, the mayor of the Mankato City Council. I decided to write to Eric Anderson because I assumed he would be the best person to contact about starting a proposal for a new grocery store near the Minnesota State University Mankato campus. Eric Anderson could then give me some pointers on continuing this proposal and what I should do next in being able to get this approved for construction. Within the email to Eric Anderson, I stated the main purpose in writing this email to him. I proceeded to state the reasoning why there is a need for a grocery store near the MNSU campus. Finally, I asked him for any feedback on the proposal and that I looked forward to hearing back to him. At the end of the email I tried to be as professional as possible and listed my name and then some contact information of mine as well. Brochure The brochure I created will be available to the entire Mankato Community along with all the students at Minnesota State University Mankato. This brochure will be available at many locations throughout Mankato, with a major emphasis of them being around the MNSU campus. Some specific spots people will be able to find these brochures are on the MNSU campus in the CSU and surrounding business of the MNSU campus, like Kwik Trip as an example. I created this brochure to show the reason why we should have a grocery store near the MNSU campus. I wanted the brochure to be concise, but also wanted it to provide enough information to the readers. I added some fun colors to the brochure to make it a little more visually appealing. I also added some pictures throughout the brochure to give the reader some visual aids of the proposed grocery store plan. Questionnaire The questionnaire will be given out to any and every student, first year freshman to a graduate student, who is walking through the CSU at Minnesota State University Mankato. The ... However, once the process began and outside forces were to move in, the regime refused to allow the Dutch and Pakistani forces into the area. The situation was made more stressful by the PDK s refusal, as demobilization of the other two factions was at a lower rate than predicted, weakening the mission s success. While the years between 1993 and 1998 lacked any implementation update of demobilization in the peace agreement, it is evident that much of what was going on in the country was due to the halt in the demobilization process. Discrimination and mass murders of Vietnamese in Cambodia continued, and regional data on the minority in the country illustrates the need for external actors to intervene. Hostage situations, ethnic murders, large scale drug smuggling, and an immigration law that targeted Vietnamese in the country are just some of the issues occurring in these 5 years. In June 1993 the Cambodia Constitution was adopted and signed, which established Sihanouk as now King and outlined a series of articles that aimed to address issues across the board. The articles protected free speech, human rights of the Khmer citizens, sovereignty of the nation, and economic policy among many other aspects. The anti Vietnamese discrimination was rising in Cambodia, often expressed through hate speech or propaganda of people who blamed the Vietnamese for internal problems of the country. Vietnamese made up about 5 percent of the population, and although attacks and killings lasted for years in this interim period and was a huge issue, the constitution still seemed to lack efficiency in addressing this issue. As previously stated, human capital is made up of the knowledge and skills that people possess. When a company hires an employee they are essentially leasing the talent that the individual owns. The company does not own the employee, their skills or abilities. Human capital emphasizes valuing people that work for the companies as assets; employees that add to the value of the organization, and when efficiently managed contributes to the overall success of the company in terms of employee productivity and contribution. The role of human resourcesin valuing human capital is mainly to figure out ways to attract and recruit the best people, find ways to make them better at what they do and bring the best out of them. Although the more complete knowledge of God unveiled in revelation cannot be strictly proven through the use of reason, this knowledge is consistent with that which we have come to know through reason. Therefore, it is entirely reasonable to hold the Catholic narrative of God as truth. Modern society, however, insists that only what is proven through science is worth believing. This attitude stems from the belief that the scientific method employed in science is the only clear cut method for determining truth. This is why renowned physicist Stephen Hawking s scientific explanation for the complexity and origin of the universe is well respected by many. Hawking s Scientific Determinism supposes that we are in fact biological machines whose decisions are determined by the chemical reactions that occur within the body, thus eliminating the concept of free will. Furthermore, Scientific Determinism effectively removes God from the picture by insisting that scientific laws cannot be laws if [they] only hold when some supernatural being decides not to intervene. Hawking s theory is supposed to be trustworthy because it relies on the scientific method of determining causes and their effects. However, this viewpoint, as scientific as it may seem, fails to provide multiple causes or explanations to critical questions. As Thomas Nagel points out, Hawking fails to ... The aforementioned book is about an American family from Georgia, which leaves the comfort of the USA to go to a missionary mission in the country of Congo, in the town of Kilanga. Throughout the novel, it can be seen how the Congo either changes or reveals the true personalities of its 5 narrators (Orleanna, Rachel, Leah, Adah and Ruth May). This can be seen through the use of different motifs, some which even contradict each other help bring life into this novel by creating complex characters and revealing how true personalities are in their own way as, state before, life is not black and white,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is apparent by the use of the character s perspective about nature and the ultimate result it has upon them. Now you laugh, day and night, while you gnaw on my bones. But what else could we have thought? Only that it began and ended with us. What do we know, even now? (Kingsolver 10). This quote by Orleanna about nature, shows the true power of it regarding the motifs of freedom and captivity. This is seen because of the fact that there is a progression and a change of thought that quickly evolves from the family and her thinking that they had the freedom to have dominion over nature, to she surrendering to nature and saying that she is captive forever because of nature that nature instead of being loving, betrayed her and is now seeking for the forgiveness of it. Another way this is seen it when Leah said Its heavenly paradise in the Congo, and sometimes I want to live here forever, (104). This extract from the novel at first glance may not seem like an important passage, but it is considering the fact that she feels that she has the motifs of freedom and love at her grasp as she feels free in the Congo and loves it. This ultimately will not last as their contrasting motifs will eventually kick in making her a prisoner of the Congo by her own merits keeping her captive in there for the rest of her life, while also betraying her because the land and the nature inside it made her lose her little sister. Finally, this connects to the thesis and the other paragraphs because of the fact that it shows this hope versus reality situation which is created when these motifs are combined, furthermore it shows the colorfulness of life in the book because of the fact that it shows the way ... • 36. The Invisible Mother And Lennie Analysis The Invisible Mother and Lennie When a person thinks of a true motherly bond they most likely think of warmth, happiness, someone safe, and reliable. In of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, Lennie has to live a life without his mother and because of that it affects the rest of his life . Not having access to the sacred feeling of a mother s love can alter anyone s life. That is why Lennie realizes he needs something to fill that hole in his heart with something that at least resembles a mother s love. If that bond is taken away then a person is left bare to the elements of the cold harsh world. There is something about soft creatures that gives Lennie a sense of serenity and inner peace. The inner peace he gets is the reason why Lennie from Of Mice and Men, by John Steinbeck, loves mice, puppies, rabbits, and anything soft because it represents a true motherly love he never had. Mice in the novel has a deeper symbolic meaning than just it being a petite pet. What Lennie loves about mice is their reliability and stability. These soft natured mice are so easy to find for Lennie. Mice also have a motherly quality that Lennie never had. A true mother is known for always being there no matter what. In the beginning of the book Lennie and George are walking towards their new job, Lennie is holding a mouse but George catches him, George says You gonna give me that mouse or do i have to sock you? ... Lennie reluctantly reached in his pocket. I don t know why I can t keep it. It ain t nobody s mouse. I didn t steal it. I found it lyin right beside the road (9). As long as Lennie is looking for mice then the mice are alway there for Lennie. The only thing stopping him most of the time is George. That is why Lennie needs to sneak around to get what he loves. Even though he loves the mice he is a danger to them. In a way when Lennie is with the mice he feels like he has mother again but when a mouse bites him he goes back to reality and kills it. When he kills the mice he feels remorse and then makes the desperate search to find something to replace it. It s important because Lennie never had an accepting person s shoulder to cry on. Cristina Garcia s Dreaming in Cuban Essay Cristina Garcia s Dreaming in Cuban tells the story about three generations of a Cuban family and their different views provoked by the Cuban revolution. Though part of the same family, an outsider might classify them as adversaries judging by relationships between one another, the exiled family members, and the differentiations between political views. Although all of these central themes reoccur over and over throughout the narrative, familyrelationships lie at the heart of the tale. Lourdes claimed her mother was dead to garner pity from strangers so they would buy her sweets, and secretly wished it were true at times. The second reason is simply a generation difference. One might assume that due to the very different upbringings and the societies that the two were brought up in, that very conflicting morals and values may have been molded. Unlike other forms of literature, such as narrations, in which the meaning and language is more direct, poetry tends to be more personal and open to interpretation. In many cases, even the poet never clearly reveals their poem s true intent, allowing a myriad of theories to formulate. The subjectiveness of poetryallows the audience to develop various interpretations, which also ensures that more people are identify with them through different ways. Maslow Hierarchy Of Needs Analysis Maslow s (1943, 1954) hierarchy of needs is a motivational theory in psychology comprising a five tier model of human needs, often depicted as hierarchical levels within a pyramid. Maslow stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs and that some needs take precedence over others. Our most basic need is for physical survival, and this will be the first thing that motivates our behaviour. Once that level is fulfilled the next level up is what motivates us, and so on. maslow s hierarchy of needs five stage pyramide This five stage model can be divided into deficiency needs and growth needs. But what happens to man’s desires when there is plenty of bread and when his belly is chronically filled? At once other (and â€oehigherâ€) needs emerge and these, rather than physiological hungers, dominate the organism. And when these in turn are satisfied, again new (and still â€oehigherâ€) needs emerge and so on. The expanded hierarchy of needs: It is important to note that Maslow s (1943, 1954) five stage model has been expanded to include cognitive and aesthetic needs (Maslow, 1970a) and later transcendence needs (Maslow, 1970b). • 47. Consequences Of Colonization Of Africa Through the19th century to the start of the 20th century, Africa was at the mercy of Europe imperialism. Politics and economics led powerful European nations to colonize the continent of Africa. What was later coined as The Scramble for Africa , led powerful nations to aggressively take over the continent and exploit its materials, people, and land. The European powers that took control of most of Africaincluded Britain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. The continent was divided and given to these European countries in 1884 through the Berlin Conference. The brutal rule by imperial command created a continent that still to this day deals with the lasting presence of the European takeover. Although not all effects of imperialism were bad or malicious, many were leaving an image of the era as psychologically damaging to Africans as well as to the land in general. Whether the effects of colonization left the continent in better or worse shape than it would have been without European imperialism, the colonization of Africa is a part of history that will remain infamous so long as it is remembered It is common for people to assume that all of African colonialismwas the same. Edgecumbe High School, where the math program was one of the many aspects that were different in comparison to the village educational expectations that I was accustomed to. My freshman year was the beginning of a burgeoning distaste and struggle in mathematics. The ninth grade is when I had been placed into a year long Algebra I class. The way we understand subjectivity effects the way we understand the world around us, whether the subject is viewed in the Cartesian manner as a fixed entity, with a pre existing nature that is not affected by the discourses that surround the it, or if we view the subjectas one produced in and through the forces of power available in the time period, whether they be political, social or linguistic. The dominant model of understanding the subject up till the 20th century has been the model provided by Descartes, one where the self is understood as being independent and unsupported, where it is considered a private and autonomous experience deriving meaning and substance on its own without the assistance or influence of external factors. According to Descartes true self knowledge cannot rely on the contingent and fallible perceptual ideas that are not essential to one s true self. During the age of Enlightenment reason and empirical knowledge were foregrounded, and were focused upon as the most important factors in understanding the world, consequently the individual was also emphasized as the creator of meaning. Human beings were understood as being born with great potential, and a stable, true self that if given the right to its unrestrained expression, could flourish and achieve anything.
