Definition
• ‘Audience Feedback’ is any method of gathering positive or critical response from a
product’s target audience.
• This is an effective method of business planning and can be carried out in various
different methods which involve interacting with a business audience.
Our group’s song
• My A2 project is a music video which will use the song ‘Beautiful’ which
was performed by Eminem and released in 2009.
• My video will follow a Narrative storyline.
• Music video synopsis- It will focus on a young man who is depressed with
his life and decides to commit suicide in order to end his suffering.
My product’s target audience
• The target audience of my music video will be the same target audience of the
original song. This will consist of young people who belong to the age groups of
late teens and early twenties.
• These are the age groups which have been known to appeal to the genre of our
music video.
• The song which we are using are using for our project is a Hip-Hop song. This
would mean that our audience would consist of anyone who appeals to the
Rap/Hip-Hop music genres.
• Our music video would also consist of people who enjoy listening to music that has
been produced by our artist: Eminem.
• Eminem is an artist who has had a very successful career as a rapper in the past
two decade.
• I believe that my team has selected a song which would attract a wide audience
since Eminem is a music artist whose music has been very well received in many
western countries.
• Young Males
The Importance of our Audience’s feedback
• Gaining feedback from a target audience can be very useful for when developing a
new type of product.
• Audience feedback would enable my team and I to gain a better understanding of
our audience’s preferences .In this case we are aiming to learn about the elements
of a music video which our audience would find appealing.
• We constantly asked members of our target audience for their opinions on our
product throughout every stage of our portfolio’s production. This was done to
ensure that our finished product will be well received among our target audience.
Our methods of Audience feedback
• My team and I had consistently gained responses from our audiences throughout
the entire process of our video’s production.
• We began collecting audience feedback in our music video’s pre-production stage
by carry out surveys on our music video’s target audience.
• We then carried out other methods of audience feedback such as filming focus
groups which involved asking our target audience more personalised questions.
• My group was also able to gain audience response during the Post-production
stage of music video. Whilst my team and I were in the process of editing our
product we allowed a selection of people to view some of our edited footage
along with the original song.
Questionnaires
• This was the first method of Audience feedback which my group had carried out.
• The purpose of this investigation was to gain an initial impression of what the
people in our audience find appeal in music videos.
• Our surveys had consisted of twelve question which asked general questions about
our audiences opinion's on music and the impact that a music video can have on
the music itself.
• I carried out this survey in my 6th form. This location was ideal to carry out my
survey since my target audience would be adolescent individuals who are currently
in higher education.

Questionnaire results
We carried out a survey on a group of applicants that attend our 6th form. We surveyed a group of young
people consisting of Male and Female applicants. We targeted this audience since Eminem's target
audience primarily consists of Males. However a few of Eminem’s past songs have been known to appeal to
a female audience. For example Love the way you Lie featuring Rihanna is aimed at females as well as
males.

Findings
• From our results we discovered the majority of our applicants had
favoured the R n B music genre over all of the others.
• However we also discovered that the majority of our applicants had
identified our song’s artist (Eminem) as their favourite American music
artist.
• In addition all of our applicants had stated that they were familiar with the
song ‘Beautiful’ and had provide positive opinions on the song.
• One of our applicants had stated that they feel ‘Beautiful is one of
Eminem’s best songs as it has a good message.
Focus group
Focus groups are more effective than questionnaires as they are more descriptive
• Our interviewees had claimed that they find the Art direction, Camera shots
and the style of editing most appealing in a
• Music video- Round the World, I do Grime
• Emphasizes the meaning of a song, Visualisation, Combine lyrics and images
• The Artist is what draws the audience to the music video.
• Llyod suggested that we use a video with a narrative to show the progression
of a character.
• This aided us in our decision to have our video follow a story Narrative instead
of making a concept or performance based video.
Positive audience reception
• One of our classmates had said that they found it to be very good.
• Another one of our applicants had claimed that they were able to
understand the theme of depression through Leyon’s acting and the
relationship between the lyrics and the images.
Negative audience reception
• My team members and I had allowed an additional classmate to have an early
viewing of our video’s final outcome. The applicant that we interviewed had
expressed mixed feelings towards our music after he had watched the full four
minutes of the video.
• Overall, our classmate found our video to be very good nut he found the black box
in the bottom right corner to be distracting from the video’s narrative.
• He also felt that it was unnecessary for the protagonist to wear clown make up
since the lyrics and Leyon’s acting would have been enough to convey the
representation between the lyrics and the visuals. The Mis-En-Scene of the
protagonist wearing clown make up appeared to be too forced with the lyrics “I
just hide behind the tears of a clown”.
Once we had completed our music video, we then
uploaded it onto You tube
• We then uploaded our music video
onto the internet through Michael’s
You tube channel.
• This had allowed our project to be
accessible to our audience via You
tube and Social networking sites.
• Our music video was very well
recognised among our audience. It
had gained 140 views on You tube on
its second day after being uploaded
onto You tube.
Collecting audience feedback in Post
Production
• In addition to uploading our music video onto You tube, we also shared this video
onto social networking sites.
Posting the video
• Leyon, Tyrell and I all have access to Face book. We decided to take advantage of this social networking
site to promote our music video onto our Facebook accounts.
• Michael also contributed to the Distribution of our music video by uploading the original iMovie file onto
Youtube.
Audience feedback 1- A small group of friends
I begun to distribute our music video by showing the
video to two of my friends in a private conversation.
I started with a small group of people as I wanted
gain feedback from people who were unfamiliar with
media studies.
My first two applicants had provided me with very positive
feedback from after viewing our music video.
One of my applicants had mentioned how he had liked our
video’s concept idea, editing and lip synching.
This feedback shows what we had done very well in our
production.
Audience Feedback 2:
Distributing our video to a larger audience
We then promoted our music video to a
total of seventeen people.
The our applicants had consisted of our
media studies classmates.
We chose to target this audience as
they would be able to identify any
particular film making or editing
techniques that they found appealing.
This audience had also appealed to
this music video as they had praised
our video’s length and editing
techniques.
Audience Feedback 2:
Distributing our video to a larger audience
One of our classmates had
appealed to the concept of our
music video whereas another one
of our classmates praised our
method of editing in the end of the
music video.

conversation, another one of
our classmates had claimed
that they were impressed with
the editing and the narrative.
The impact of our audience feedback
• We used the response from our audience in order help
improve the quality of our video. A few members of our
audience had also gave us suggestions for how we can
improve our music video.
• One of our survey applicants had suggested how we could
improve our video’s editing .
• We incorporated the fast editing technique into our video and
our audience member suggested that we include new clips
that we hadn't used earlier on in the video.
• We then applied new clips into this editing sequence . In my
opinion this was a massive improvement from our previous
final outcome.
Conclusion
• In conclusion the response that we gained from our target
audience has been primarily positive.
• We found that the majority of our applicants had applied to
the editing and the concept of our video.
• This reflects how my team members and I had excelled in the
jobs which we carried out in the planning and the post
production stages of our product.

The applicant that we interviewed had expressed mixed feelings towards our music after he had watched the full four minutes of the video. • Overall, our classmate found our video to be very good nut he found the black box in the bottom right corner to be distracting from the video’s narrative. • He also felt that it was unnecessary for the protagonist to wear clown make up since the lyrics and Leyon’s acting would have been enough to convey the representation between the lyrics and the visuals. The Mis-En-Scene of the protagonist wearing clown make up appeared to be too forced with the lyrics “I just hide behind the tears of a clown”.

Once we had completed our music video, we then uploaded it onto You tube • We then uploaded our music video onto the internet through Michael’s You tube channel. • This had allowed our project to be accessible to our audience via You tube and Social networking sites. • Our music video was very well recognised among our audience. It had gained 140 views on You tube on its second day after being uploaded onto You tube.

  • 22. Posting the video • Leyon, Tyrell and I all have access to Face book. We decided to take advantage of this social networking site to promote our music video onto our Facebook accounts. • Michael also contributed to the Distribution of our music video by uploading the original iMovie file onto Youtube.
  • 23. Audience feedback 1- A small group of friends I begun to distribute our music video by showing the video to two of my friends in a private conversation. I started with a small group of people as I wanted gain feedback from people who were unfamiliar with media studies. My first two applicants had provided me with very positive feedback from after viewing our music video. One of my applicants had mentioned how he had liked our video’s concept idea, editing and lip synching. This feedback shows what we had done very well in our production.
  • 24. Audience Feedback 2: Distributing our video to a larger audience We then promoted our music video to a total of seventeen people. The our applicants had consisted of our media studies classmates. We chose to target this audience as they would be able to identify any particular film making or editing techniques that they found appealing. This audience had also appealed to this music video as they had praised our video’s length and editing techniques.

  • 27. The impact of our audience feedback • We used the response from our audience in order help improve the quality of our video. A few members of our audience had also gave us suggestions for how we can improve our music video. • One of our survey applicants had suggested how we could improve our video’s editing . • We incorporated the fast editing technique into our video and our audience member suggested that we include new clips that we hadn't used earlier on in the video. • We then applied new clips into this editing sequence . In my opinion this was a massive improvement from our previous final outcome.

Conclusion • In conclusion the response that we gained from our target audience has been primarily positive. • We found that the majority of our applicants had applied to the editing and the concept of our video. • This reflects how my team members and I had excelled in the jobs which we carried out in the planning and the post production stages of our product.
