Analysis Of Coming Of Age In Mississippi By Anne Moody
The book Coming of Age in Mississippi is a memoir written by Anne Moody. The book recounts her
experiences as a young black woman in the Civil Rights Movement, and gives a firsthand account of
many of the historical events during that time period, such as sit ins, protests, and civil unrest. Anne
Moody was a vocal activist and member of organizations such as the NAACP, who spoke out against
racism and segregation. Born in 1940 in rural Mississippi, Anne lives with her parents and her sister
Adline in a two room shack that does not have electricity or plumbing. The shack is on a plantation
owned by white people, the Carter family, who do have those luxuries, and Anne s parents work on the
plantation. Anne s father leaves the family after an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rice, who first told her about the NAACP and civil rights activism. Anne states that Mrs. Rice became
like a mother to her, telling her anything she wanted to know, though she warned Anne that if anyone
else found out she was talking about these things, she would be fired. At the end of the school year,
Mrs. Rice is indeed fired, but Anne does not know why, and she does not see her again. Still, Mrs.
Rice s impact on Anne was the catalyst that led Anne into the civil rights movement, as she learned
that there were things she could do to try to change the way things were. Another important woman is
Mrs. Burke, Anne s racist employer. Mrs. Burke does Anne no favors, but through working for her,
Anne s eyes are opened to the hostility of whites. Mrs. Burke accuses Anne s younger brother of
stealing from her, even though he is innocent. This event leads to Anne quitting the job and choosing
to work as a waitress instead of a maid. She wants to use her earnings to pay for college, so that she
may become educated. Finally, Anne s stepmother plays a significant role in Anne s life. After Anne
leaves her mother s home to move in with her father, she develops a bond with her stepmother, Emma,
who is kind and friendly. She shows compassion to those around her, and even when an altercation
with her brother in law results in her getting her foot shot, she doesn t blame him. Instead, she places
the blame with white society, which makes life so much harder for people like

Cesar Chavez Struggles
Many leaders in Unites States are remembered for their hard and memorable work like Cesar Chaves.
He was an American farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist, who had one of the most
influential boycott in the US. Cesar grew up on a farm but shortly after his family lost their farm due
to the Great Depression. The family moves to California to work in the fields. As a child Cesar only
finished 8th grade because the family needed money to survive, he was forced to work in the fields
daily, for long hours. Right after WWII ended he joined the navy for two years. After his return to
California, Cesar helped farmers gain respect and dignity that they deserved. Cesar knew that
farmworkers strikes where brutally crushed, but he never gave up and continued fighting ... Show

to farmers that they deserved more. He organized and led strikes and boycotts. Cesar Chavez
committed his whole life on reaching the rights of farmers. His unwavering commitment goes beyond
measures. He had a very difficult life that had many obstacles. During his strikes and boycotts Cesar
Chavez would get arrested and put down by many people, but that did not stop him for what he
believed. Cesar Chavez an American farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist is remembered
for his hard work and one of the most influential boycotts in United States. He overcame obstacles in
his life and succeeded, due to his characteristics of tunneling, limelight effect, and unwavering

Flat Tax
Flat Tax Rate: Rich Households Have Had Enough Rich households have been paying too much in
taxes these past years. Earners in the top 1% pay about 43% of their incomes in tax. [While] people in
the middle quintile pay 25%. [And] the poorest fifth pays 13% (Barro). And yet some politicians, like
Donald Trump, think the solution to resolving our country s debt is by taxing the top percent more. In
reality, the United States should have a flat tax rate due to the fact that it is the fairest plan and the
hard work pertained by the top percent should be valued. The way flat tax rate works is that everyone
gets taxed the same percentage regardless of their income. For example, lets say a poor man makes
$50,000 yearly , while a rich man ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also used of resources such as building schools, roads, paying government employees but the fact
of the matter is that its all for the public. Why should you make high income citizens pay for things
that everyone is using. We should all put in the same amount of money that goes into these projects,
since after all there for everyones use. Why would you penalize people that worked hard for their
money when everyone else had the opportunity to do so. Even if its old money, someone struggled to
gather that money, the government cannot just take that away. Being rich is rare privilege, not fairly
common, if not it would not feel so unique. With the method we have now we are just going to
balance everyones finances out, we need a diverse income for our population. If not people will not
have any ambition, not strive. A country has to create riches, not distribute them if they do the
economy as we know it will go in a decadence. Those that are in the highest class have studied and
trained so hard to where they are. Most of them have corporations in which provide work, if a flat tax
was issued those same corporations would have more resources to expand their business to create
more job. With the rate our tax plans are going corporations are going no other option then lay people

Education And Economic Inequality
In the United States, people like to believe everyone has an equal chance at success. This emphasis on
self effort perpetuates the belief that people control their own social standing. However, sociologists
recognize that social stratification is a society wide system that makes inequalities apparent (Griffiths
et al., 2016, p.188). There are many factors that drive social inequality; globalization and immigration,
technology advances, the family you were born into, and even the education you received in pre
school. I feel the most important contributing factor is economic inequality. I consider this to be true
not only for the United States, but globally as well.
Both wealthy and poor classes, and all those in between would benefit from living in a more
economically equitable society. Statistics show correlation of an increase in overall physical health
and longevity, a decrease in infant mortality rates, and an increase in mental health in individuals
living in societies with higher economic equality. There is also substantial evidence linking greater
equality to better social relationships within societies there is less violence, and a greater sense of
overall trust.
I believe addressing education, implementing new tax policies, and making fundamental changes to
the way Americans think about success will help reduce economic inequalities. If we can achieve this
in our country, economic societies around the globe will all benefit.
It is widely agreed that

Facebook witness an exponential increase in user activity when an event takes place in the real world.
This activity is a combination of good quality content like information, personal views, opinions,
comments, as well as poor quality content like rumours, spam, and other malicious content. Although,
the good quality content makes online social media a rich source of information, consumption of poor
quality content can degrade user experience, and have inappropriate impact in the real world. In
addition, the enormous popularity, promptness, and reach of online social media services across the
world makes it essential to monitor this activity, and minimize the production and spread of poor
quality content. Multiple studies in the past have analysed the content spread on social networks
during real world events. However, little work has explored the Facebook social network. Two of the
main reasons for the lack of studies on Facebook are the strict privacy settings, and limited amount of
data available from Facebook, as compared to Twitter. With over 1 billion monthly active users,
Facebook is about times bigger than its next biggest counterpart Twitter, and is currently, the largest
online social network in the world. In this literature survey, we review the existing research

River Of Earth
The River of Earth
The novel River Of Earth by James Still is a story about life in e Appalachia just before The Great
Depression. The story provides a very clear description of the problems and challenges the mountain
people faced after the settlement of their land. Even though the novel is shadowed by other writings of
the time period dealing with poor southern life, it is still considered a great neglected masterpiece.
The story is about a family that considers awkward. They struggle to put enough food on the table for
the entire family, most of the time the mother barely eats. They live in a small smoke house that is
very cramped and cluttered because of the number of people living in it. The Father is waiting for the

Why Sherman Burned Georgia To The Ground
The North takes a lead with Sherman behind it all. On February 17, 1865 Sherman captures South
Carolina leading him up to burn Georgia to the ground. From Atlanta to Savannah, Sherman covers
450 miles in 50 days leaving a 40 by 50 mile wide path of destruction. Some people refer to it as
Sherman s March To The Sea . William Sherman becomes the terror of the South as he burns
everything in his path. William Sherman believed that capturing Georgia would be effective and
psychological as fighting. Sherman then has his troops circle Atlanta in July, forcing Hood to abandon
Georgia on September 1, 1864. He captures Georgia the next day which was a major part of Sherman
s March Towards Sea because Atlanta had railroads and was the industrial center of Georgia. Another
reason Sherman burned Georgia to the ground is because Atlanta had warehouses that stored most of

Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)
The Earned income tax credit can be defined as a way for workers who have a moderate annual
income rate to receive a reduction in federal income as well as their payroll taxes. The credit was
established with specifically low income status workers as the main target, and this was due to the fact
that the EITC is a refundable credit. Since its establishment in the year of 1975 the EITC has been
modified about several times, it was originally set up with a goal to combine an incentive for having
employment as a low income workers who had children, with the anti poverty effects of having
negative income taxes. It was deemed the best pro family and anti poverty measure that was produced

Dangers To Work With Someone In The Great Depression
There are many dangers to work with someone in the Great Depression, but there are as well benefits.
The first positive attribute of having a friend is that they have someone to talk with, and could keep

Migration And Its Effects On Population
Abstract:
Migration such as immigration or emigration is the transfer of alleles, which are responsible for
genetic variations, from the gene pool of one population to another. Therefore, it may change allele
frequencies or range due to the reproduction of the immigrated individuals. This study was performed
to see how migration modifies the effects of frequent disasters on allele frequencies in moth
populations. Migration would counteract the effects of natural disasters that increase genetic drift by
introducing new alleles into the gene pool; this allows for new combinations and increases variability
within populations. Keeping all other factors constant, PopGen was used to maneuver Hardy Weinberg
s equilibrium parameters where different levels of migration decreases the harm caused by frequent
and occasional disaster rates in a set population. As the migratory rate increases, the relative
frequencies of each allele A a remained closed to 0.5, respectively, indicating that by increasing
variability, migration decreases the impacts of disaster rates on a population.
Introduction:
Population genetics is the study of alleles frequency changes and distributions in response to the five
factors that drive evolution natural selection, mutation, migration and genetic drift, within populations
(McDonald and Linde, 2002). It focuses on interbreeding populations overall gene pool, and whether
the present alleles changes over time. Alleles are gene variants at a loci in a

In the memoir of Ishmael Beah, A Long Way Gone, Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, Beah states that his life
s journey has been a huge obstacle, but has learned to overcome that struggle by venting while the two
contradictory sides continue their battling. Beah accomplishes his goal of explaining to the reader his
point of view through the use of rhetorical questions, scenic narration, and parallelism. Ishmael Beah s
apparent purpose is to share personal accounts of his life with his fellow country men, in a country
where war affects people to a level beyond the imagination. He is able to apply his purpose using a

Through Beah s use of questions, the reader is able ponder on the question as if Beah is asking the
questions to him or her. Secondly, Beah describes gruesome, fearful, and horrific times and scenes
with the help of scenic narration. For example, Beah says, I am pushing a rusty wheelbarrow in a town
where the air smells of blood and burnt flesh. The breeze brings the faint cries of those whose last
breaths are leaving their mangled bodies. I walk past them. Their arms and legs are missing, their
intestines spill out through the bullet holes in their stomachs, brain matter comes out of their noses and
ears. This statement gives an excellent and direct impression of the brutality of the rebels.
Conceivably, this could be labeled as a massive genocide in the way Beah retells it. A Long Way Gone
is full of daunting scenes and bitter language. Ishmael Beah states, Setting the body on the ground, I
start to unwrap it, beginning at the feet. All the way up to the neck, there are bullet holes. One bullet
has crushed the Adam s apple and sent the remains of it to the back of the throat. I lift the cloth from
the body s face. I am looking at my own. Beah shows powerful and visible emotion in the way he
describes this person. When he says that he is looking at his own, that makes the reader feel as if Beah
is describing a family member or a very loving friend. Although, the last portion of this quote is
emotional, Beah still describes gruesomeness the Adam s apple being

Reflection On Feminism
This semester has truly been a journey for me and what I find myself identifying feminism as.
Looking back at our first writing assignment and discussing the magnitude of interpretations on what
feminism is and what it stands for, my opinions and views have certainly evolved throughout the
course of the semester. Feminism, in all of its forms and interpretations, is expressed differently to
each person. As for myself, I have never explored the vast variety of feminism until this past fall
semester. From expressing my views from the first assignment, I can clearly say that my opinions
have changed gradually throughout the semester. Three readings from our repertoire have really
shaped my new outlook on feminism and what it holds to be for me. And as this semester in GWSS
1101 comes to a close, I look back on these readings to show how far I have come and the vast
opportunities that I have yet to come in my exploration of feminism. Before I venture off into these
three readings, I want to reflect back on my personal views of feminism at the beginning of the
semester through the What Is Feminism? interview project. Included in the appendix, I have included
the interview questions from my What Is Feminism? project. Throughout the interview project, I
explained that a majority of my beliefs of feminism were hand fed to me by parents and my religion. I
was born and raised on Catholic values, both being educated in them in the church as well as in the
household.

Rim s Research In Motion
Research in Motion (RIM) is known as a multinational telecommunications establishment which is
responsible for designing, manufacturing and marketing the wireless solution for the
telecommunication and mobile markets, especially its Blackberry lines. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina,
2013) RIM was first founded and owned by Mike Lazaridis in 1985 and Jim Balsillie had joined the
company as a co chief executive later in 1992. The company was seriously affected by the launch of
iPhone in 2007. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina, 2013) The market share of Blackberry has been dropped
from 20% to 5%. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina, 2013) In 2011, RIM s stock price significantly dropped
by 75 %, following with the launches of a collective of lukewarm products, and declines in share.
Following the resignation of many shareholders, the two founders, Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie,
then have been replaced and RIM has been taken over by Thorsten Heins. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina,
2013) According to Heins, the current issues that RIM is facing have nothing to deal with the original
strategic plan, and it is all about marketing and communication. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina, 2013)
Also, to prove for his points, Heins has emphasized on the significant improvements at RIM which is
debt free and holding $2.9 billion cash on hand. (Burr, Rothaermel, Urbina, 2013) Heins has predicted
the big turnaround for RIM will happen at the moment that the Blackberry 10 launches into the

Civic culture In Yugoslavia Essay
One definition of ethnicity reads as followed identity with or membership in a particular racial,
national, or cultural group and observance of that group s customs, beliefs, or language . Ethnicity
defines many of us but a few want our definition to be cleansed and this is when civil conflict arises.
Ethnicity is frequently cited as an explanation for conflicts in the post cold war era. Yugoslavia, a
prime example of a system that encountered ethnic conflict that led to a violent civil war, consisted of
six republics and two autonomous districts. The government at the time wanted control of these
republics but the republics wanted to be free from government control. There was a push by several

These congruities of blood, speech, custom, and so on, are seen to have an ineffable, and at times
overpowering, coerciveness in and of themselves. One is bound to one s kinsman, one s neighbor, one

interest, or incurred obligation but at least in great part by virtue of some unaccountable absolute
import attributed to the very tie itself. The general strength of such primordial bonds, and the types of
them that are important, differ from person to person, from society to society, and from time to time.
But for virtually every person, in every society, at almost all times, some attachments seem to flow
more from a sense of natural some would say spiritual affinity than from social interaction. The
cultural primordialist is easier to accept in today s modern world. For primordialists, ethnic bonds and
hatreds are fundamental to one s identity, meaning that conflicts between ethnic groups are inevitable.
Conflicts will by definition be extremely brutal and violent because there is no room for compromise
on one s spiritual ties and cultural beliefs.
Instrumentalist, the second field of thought is when you can differentiate groups from tribes and
identity is situational. In modernization it changes the class system within society but does not
necessarily lead to conflict. Instrumentalism is when ethnic conflict occurs when it

Holocaust Concentration Camps The Holocaust nearly made the Jewish population and religion
disappear from the face of the Earth. From January 30, 1933 to May 8, 1945; Adolf Hitler, German
politician and leader of the Nazi party, ran the Holocaust all over Germany and Eastern Europe.
Prisoners and victims of the Holocaust include: the majority of the Jewish population, German
Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats, Roma (Gypsies), Jehovah s Witnesses, homosexuals, and
people accused of socially deviant or socially unacceptable behavior. They were sent to many different
areas that had different purposes. The most used places they were sent to are called concentration
camps. Once they entered the concentration camps, there was no escaping; those people officially
became prisoners. There were 23 main concentration camps and around 900 sub camps. Concentration
camps tricked the Jewish people into coming into them by offering them a better life on the
welcoming signs outside. Some of the main camps had many different inhumane uses. All of the
camps are notorious for their cruel and evil ways of everything that they did to prisoners, such as the
genocide the Holocaust caused (Concentration Camps, Killing Methods, Jewish Population). A lesser
known camp, Westerbork, is located in the Netherlands. This concentration camp was known as a
Transit camp, which meant it wasn t the end of the line for the prisoners who arrived there. These
camps were a temporary accommodation for the groups of prisoners that were being shipped
throughout the country. Often these camps are where families were split up by German Nazi soldiers.
Westerbork was used from October 1939 through April 1945. This camp was shut down by Canadian
liberation. Westerbork still stands as a monument today (Concentration Camps). The next
concentration camp, Dachau, is located in Germany. This camp was the longest running major
concentration camp throughout the Holocaust. It started being used in March 1933 and was not shut
down until April 1945. This was a forced labor camp, so the majority of people survived when at this
camp, but you didn t always get to stay there unless you worked as hard as

Organic Farming Essay
Since the time of when early settlers arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, farming has proven to be a
reliable solution to many crises within the food industry. After all, learning how to farm from the
Native Americans saved the colonies from famine during the 17th century. Fast forward a couple
centuries to the 1800s. During the 1840s, commercial farming became a new trend as farmers began
seeing quicker production and a bigger profit. The inventions of irrigation and chemical fertilizers also

today. However, the introduction of organic farming methods has created uproar within the
agricultural industry due to its impressive success. Polyface farms have become the leading icon for
how organic farming methods can and will be most successful in the journey towards revitalizing the
United States food industry. These organic farming techniques were formed based upon the issues that
industrial farming uses. In Michael Pollan s article The Animals: Practicing Complexity, industrial
farming techniques follow a clear, linear, hierarchical logic unlike Polyface s system, which is more
difficult to describe. Many see industrial methods as disrespectful to the lives of animals in which we
harvest. The practices that Polyface Farms use present

Prosopagnosia Essay
For centuries, there were forms of facial recognition disorders reported. It wasn t until 1844 that
developmental prosopagnosia (DP) was first reported. Joachim Bodamer coined the term
prosopagnosia in1947. Prosopagnosia is the inability to distinguish faces; it can also be referred to as
facial blindness. People who have prosopagnosia can t recognize faces, but they can tell that a face is a
face. Not being able to recognize faces is just one of the impairments that can occur with
prosopagnosia, you can also have deficits in recognition of objects, cars, judging age or gender. It has
also reported that some cannot recognize their own face when looking at it. Researchers agree that
prosopagnosia does not just happen one way; people can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There were two conditions, same top and different top. Experiment two was done in the same way
except it had three conditions same top, different top and same both. The results as a whole show that

Cohan, Mercado, Wilmer and Nakayama (2012) looked at DP, regarding the mouth region being

Deforestation In Latin America Essay
Deforestation is defined as: the clearing of virgin forests, or intentional destruction or removal of trees
and other vegetation for agricultural, commercial, housing, or firewood use without replanting and
without allowing time for the forest to regenerate itself (SCRIBD). Deforestation has been a problem
in Latin America since the early 1900s and the severity of the dilemma is increasing rapidly.
Deforestation not only has consequences for the environment, but also, the indigenous people and the
national economy. The logging industry in Latin America is often exploited by multinational
companies that are not properly regulated. The land that has provided a home and cultivated
indigenous development for centuries is being dissipated rapidly. Due to an exponentially growing
global population, there is an increased demand for low priced goods like timber, crops, and meat.
Many Latin American countries value revenue from selling these goods over the health of their local
ecosystems. The crisis of deforestation and habitat loss is shifting from a local to global problem. As
deforestation continues, global warming escalates worldwide, impacting every country and person.
About 15 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from tropical deforestation, which is more
than from all the world s cars, trucks and buses combined (Schwartzman). Puerto Rico and Brazil
provide contrasting examples of the impact of deforestation. Puerto Rico had an economic and
environmental shift

The Legacy Of Ted Bundy
Theodore Robert Cowell, more notoriously known as Ted Bundy, was born in Burlington, Vermont on
November 24, 1946. Bundy was raised by his grandparents for the first three years of his life in order
to avoid public disgrace from their community due to the fact that Bundy s mother had him out of
wedlock. As a young boy, Bundy was under the notion, along with the community around him, that his
grandparents were his parents and his mother was his older sister. At the age of four, his mother left
with Bundy to live in Philadelphia and there met her new husband, Johnny Bundy. Together, they
resulted in conceiving four children and despite the fact that Johnny Bundy had adopted him; he
continued to stay secluded from the rest of the family. His childhood overall is controversial; in
interviews, Bundy described his grandparents as respectful and was very attached to his grandfather.
Later on, it was revealed to attorneys by other family members and himself that Bundy s grandfather,
Samuel Cowell, was a domineering and prejudice person. Different reports from beating his wife and
the family dog to pushing Bundy s aunt down a flight of stairs were claimed to have happened. His
grandmother however, was described by Bundy as being humble and loyal who went through therapy
for depression. Bundy started exhibiting his abnormal behavior at a young age, reports from his aunt
stating she woke up from a nap to discover she was surrounded by knives and a three year old Bundy

Morgan Spurlock s Film, Super Size Me Essay
As Steven Spielberg once said, documentaries are the greatest way to educate an entire generation
(Azevedo, 2013). In Morgan Spurlock s documentary Super Size Me, audiences are informed and
shown the dangers of consuming fast food everyday. Spurlock has a camera follow him for one month
as he consumes McDonalds for each meal thus exposing one to the unhealthy affects of the lifestyle.
Relying on images, interviews, and statistics the viewers are informed of how processed fast foods
begin to affect people starting from a young age. This documentary style film shapes the perception of
the spectator through the use of visual and narrative techniques. Morgan Spurlock s film Super Size
Me is representative of the idealized version of film ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One can see that Spurlock believes that fast food industry is responsible for the rise in obesity hence
the reason for his experiment. Through narrative and editing Spurlock removes any biases that may
alter the results of his experiment (Cornell, Lecture #12). He films himself as well as others in
uncontrolled situations, the audience is put into his shoes as they watch these situations unfold just as
he once did (Cornell, Lecture #12). Spurlock sets rules to control the experiment for more accurate
results. These rules include eating three meals at McDonalds each day, only eating or drinking items
that are sold by McDonalds, super sizing meals only when asked, and trying everything on the menu
at least once. Rather than visiting the same McDonalds and dealing with the same employees, he
travels around to different cities and states. In the beginning of his experiment, Spurlock travels to
Houston, Texas which is known for being the most obese city in the United States. On his first trip to a
McDonalds in Houston he is automatically asked if he would prefer to super size his meal.
Throughout his entire 30 day experiment he is asked to super size his meal nine times, five of those
times are from employees in Texas. Questioning a vast array of people in schools and on the street,
Spurlock attempts to provoke responses in subjects being interviewed as well as the audience (Cornell,
Lecture #12). Due to the lack of direction and script the questions, answers, and

When children are little, they often learn that every cigarette you smoke takes seven seconds off your
life. We also know of the addictive nature of smoking. Once people start, it is very hard to stop
(ALA). There are hundreds of different facts about how smoking can harm you. This proves that the
negative effects of smoking will far exceed the positive.
Smoking reduces the stress in your life.
Although it is proven that smoking calms you down for the short period you are smoking that
cigarette, in the long run, smoking can be the cause of many stressful issues. Smokers will be stressed
when they end up in a hospital fighting any number of smoking related problems like lung cancer and
emphysema. Smokers will be stressed when they get the expensive medical bill. They might not have
the money to pay this bill because of all the money that they have wasted on cigarettes. If a person
smokes a pack of cigarettes every day for one year, it will cost them nearly $1300 a year. So if you are
a lifetime smoker of 30 years, you have probably given the tobacco companies $39,000(Action on
Smoking and Health). Think of all they could do to take away their stress with that money.
Stopping smoking can be a health hazard.

Summary Of Killing The Rising Sun
Killing the Rising Sun by Bill O Reilly and Martin Dugard is a descriptive, well written book
wrapping up the end of World War II. Reading this book makes you feel like you are living in the
midst of the vividly depictive and picturesque scenes that O Reilly and Dugard bring the reader back
to imagine in this book. I really enjoyed this book and I think it really helped me to capture what
happened during World War II and the hardships and trials that the United States went through to
defeat Japan in one of the most decisive naval battles of World War II. I hope that in this essay I can
achieve half of what the authors achieved in writing this book.

Taking place on the island of Peleliu, these men went through horrific things and needed an incredible
amount of physical and mental strength to push themselves to fight. Throughout the book, there are
many circumstances that seem to have happened that the authors describe very vividly with specific
details. Although these scenes may be hard for the viewer to imagine actually happening, there is such
great description of the events that makes you want to keep reading more about the things that these
men went through during battle. The book describes men committing suicide with their swords and
chopping off heads and it can be hard to imagine someone doing that. Personally, I really think you
can gather a good understanding that this war in the Pacific was one of the deadliest battles in history
from the examples from the book of things that were everyday events for these people. There were
more than forty million fallen men by the time the war was over and the Japanese committed many
abhorrent acts toward their prisoners. They would deprive them of food, shelter, medical necessities,
and many other vital resources needed to survive a time like World War

The Shoelace By Charles Bukowski And Walking In The Blue
Literature is Insanity When it comes to literature, many students have difficulty trying to understand
the main reason the author wrote it. This is very evident in poems. Poems are verbal compositions
designed to convey experiences, ideas, or emotions in a specific and creative way. They are
characterized by the use of the way they are formatted and use literary techniques such as metaphors,
similes, rhyme, and personification. With the many rules and forms that poems can have, a lot of them
are hard to interpret. In this essay, I want to breakdown two poems meaning by comparing their
similar underlying message by the authors similar styles and experiences. The two poems are The
Shoelace by Charles Bukowski and Walking in the Blue by Robert Lowell. The Shoelace and Walking
in the Blue are both poems that deal with the topic of understanding insanity. In Charles Bukowski s
The Shoelace, he discusses the topic in a more typical and conventional view of insanity. While on the
other hand, Robert Lowell focuses on the view of insanity from the view of noticeable and rough
familiarities in his poem Walking in the Blue.
The definition of insanity is the state of being mentally ill and a direct cause of insanity is mainly
stress. Charles Bukowski s poem revives the known feeling of losing it and going into a state of
madness. Bukowski relied on experience, emotion, and imagination in his works. He used his poetry
to show the wickedness of urban life and the oppression in the

The Epidemic Of Dengue Fever
The holiday season tends to attract Canadians to visiting warmer destinations in the hopes of escaping
our frigid winter weather. These warmer destinations, like the Caribbean, have much to offer; with
balmy tropical weather, hot beaches, ocean views, and plenty of sun. Unfortunately, along with the
luxuries of these areas comes with the risk of an array of tropical diseases, such as dengue fever. The
thought of contracting this illness is not ideal for the perfect winter getaway but is beginning to
become a somber reality with the dramatic increase of incidences in tropical climates globally. Dengue
fever, also historically known as break bone fever, is caused by the dengue virus and is endemic in
tropical areas around the world. If severe, the illness can progress to more serious conditions,
including dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. Dengue fever is emerging as a
major global concern as an estimated 2.5 billion people are at risk and an increasing trend in annual
number of cases over recent reported years (1,2). The dengue virus (DENV) is a small, positive,
enveloped RNA virus about 40 50 nm in diameter. DENV belongs to the genus flavivirus; a member
of the Flaviviridae family (1). Its single stranded genome codes for three structural proteins (capsid,
precursor membrane, and envelope), and 7 non structural proteins. There are four different serotypes
of the virus, DENV 1 through DENV 4, that are all antigenically and genetically different. Although

The largest unintentional marine oil spill in human history took place in the Gulf of Mexico in the
year 2010. The event resulted after methane gas was released and exploded in the BP owned Macondo
exploration well on April 20, 2010. The fire continued for 36 hours and the oil drilling rig, Deepwater
Horizon, sank on April 22, 2010. This event led to the loss of 11 lives and the spill of about 4.9 million
barrels of oil. The oil spill affected as much as 68,000 square miles. After long efforts, the well was
capped on July 15, 2010 and sealed two months later on September 19, 2010.

The Dropped Sales Of Cereal
The dropped sales of cereal. One of the main issues that I have noticed about my idea of making All In
One product is the dropping sales of consumption of cereals. As the data shows the consumption of
cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante, 2016). However, the
reason is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the increasing number of variety of
breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch to another type of breakfast food. As
it mentioned in the New York Times article many companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post,
concerned about the reducing trend of sales are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward
trend (Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new
products nostalgic to influence adults choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal
companies believe is the reason of the lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people,
because as the article states the 40 percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is
inconvenient because they have to clean up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not
take much of their time (Mitchell, 2016). Therefore many consumers switch from eating cereal to
another breakfast not because they don t like it anymore but because it takes longer time to make it
and clean up. Thus, when my All In One product get introduced in the market, we will have a

Norma Percy Death Of Yugoslavia Summary
Nationalism, Security, and the Death of Yugoslavia Norma Percy s The Death of Yugoslavia frames
the political events that took place towards the end of the Cold War that would ultimately result in the
dissolvent of Yugoslavia. After the death of Josi Broz Tito, the once suppressed nationalism between
the Serbs and Croats was reignited under the control of Slobodan Milosevic. The Serbs claimed that
their people were poorly treated at that the Albanians yearned for an ethnically pure Yugoslavia.
Unlike his predecessor, Milosevic catered to the Serbs, lending an ear to their nationalistic tendencies
instead of crushing it. As tensions mounted, Milosevic launched a Serbian crusade, taking over the
sovereign republics of Vojvodina and Montenegro. According to Percy (1995), the republic of Kosovo,
full of Albanians, put up a fight but eventually bowed to Serbia through military force. With regard to
Slovenia and Croatia, the two republics managed to hold their ground against Milosevic and declared
independence in 1991. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similar to when Hitler took over Europe, the surrounding states of Yugoslavia put forth little military

was against Milosevic or another outside force and was only amplified when outside states provided
no military backup (Baylis, Smith, Owens, 2014). Thus, it was relatively easy for one party, with
federal force and of one ethnicity, to come in and take over. Additionally, without nationalism in the
way, the Yugoslavian republics would have been able to come together and develop their military
force on a state and federal

  • 2. Analysis Of Coming Of Age In Mississippi By Anne Moody The book Coming of Age in Mississippi is a memoir written by Anne Moody. The book recounts her experiences as a young black woman in the Civil Rights Movement, and gives a firsthand account of many of the historical events during that time period, such as sit ins, protests, and civil unrest. Anne Moody was a vocal activist and member of organizations such as the NAACP, who spoke out against racism and segregation. Born in 1940 in rural Mississippi, Anne lives with her parents and her sister Adline in a two room shack that does not have electricity or plumbing. The shack is on a plantation owned by white people, the Carter family, who do have those luxuries, and Anne s parents work on the plantation. Anne s father leaves the family after an ... Anne states that Mrs. Rice became like a mother to her, telling her anything she wanted to know, though she warned Anne that if anyone else found out she was talking about these things, she would be fired. At the end of the school year, Mrs. Rice is indeed fired, but Anne does not know why, and she does not see her again. Still, Mrs. Rice s impact on Anne was the catalyst that led Anne into the civil rights movement, as she learned that there were things she could do to try to change the way things were. Another important woman is Mrs. Burke, Anne s racist employer. Mrs. Burke does Anne no favors, but through working for her, Anne s eyes are opened to the hostility of whites. Mrs. Burke accuses Anne s younger brother of stealing from her, even though he is innocent. This event leads to Anne quitting the job and choosing to work as a waitress instead of a maid. She wants to use her earnings to pay for college, so that she may become educated. Finally, Anne s stepmother plays a significant role in Anne s life. After Anne leaves her mother s home to move in with her father, she develops a bond with her stepmother, Emma, who is kind and friendly. She shows compassion to those around her, and even when an altercation with her brother in law results in her getting her foot shot, she doesn t blame him. • 4. Flat Tax Flat Tax Rate: Rich Households Have Had Enough Rich households have been paying too much in taxes these past years. Earners in the top 1% pay about 43% of their incomes in tax. [While] people in the middle quintile pay 25%. [And] the poorest fifth pays 13% (Barro). And yet some politicians, like Donald Trump, think the solution to resolving our country s debt is by taxing the top percent more. In reality, the United States should have a flat tax rate due to the fact that it is the fairest plan and the hard work pertained by the top percent should be valued. The way flat tax rate works is that everyone gets taxed the same percentage regardless of their income. For example, lets say a poor man makes $50,000 yearly , while a rich man ... Why should you make high income citizens pay for things that everyone is using. We should all put in the same amount of money that goes into these projects, since after all there for everyones use. Why would you penalize people that worked hard for their money when everyone else had the opportunity to do so. Even if its old money, someone struggled to gather that money, the government cannot just take that away. Being rich is rare privilege, not fairly common, if not it would not feel so unique. With the method we have now we are just going to balance everyones finances out, we need a diverse income for our population. If not people will not have any ambition, not strive. A country has to create riches, not distribute them if they do the economy as we know it will go in a decadence. Those that are in the highest class have studied and trained so hard to where they are. • 5. Education And Economic Inequality In the United States, people like to believe everyone has an equal chance at success. This emphasis on self effort perpetuates the belief that people control their own social standing. However, sociologists recognize that social stratification is a society wide system that makes inequalities apparent (Griffiths et al., 2016, p.188). There are many factors that drive social inequality; globalization and immigration, technology advances, the family you were born into, and even the education you received in pre school. I feel the most important contributing factor is economic inequality. I consider this to be true not only for the United States, but globally as well. Both wealthy and poor classes, and all those in between would benefit from living in a more economically equitable society. Statistics show correlation of an increase in overall physical health and longevity, a decrease in infant mortality rates, and an increase in mental health in individuals living in societies with higher economic equality. There is also substantial evidence linking greater equality to better social relationships within societies there is less violence, and a greater sense of overall trust. I believe addressing education, implementing new tax policies, and making fundamental changes to the way Americans think about success will help reduce economic inequalities. If we can achieve this in our country, economic societies around the globe will all benefit. It is widely agreed that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This activity is a combination of good quality content like information, personal views, opinions, comments, as well as poor quality content like rumours, spam, and other malicious content. Although, the good quality content makes online social media a rich source of information, consumption of poor quality content can degrade user experience, and have inappropriate impact in the real world. In addition, the enormous popularity, promptness, and reach of online social media services across the world makes it essential to monitor this activity, and minimize the production and spread of poor quality content. Multiple studies in the past have analysed the content spread on social networks during real world events. However, little work has explored the Facebook social network. Two of the main reasons for the lack of studies on Facebook are the strict privacy settings, and limited amount of data available from Facebook, as compared to Twitter. With over 1 billion monthly active users, Facebook is about times bigger than its next biggest counterpart Twitter, and is currently, the largest online social network in the world. • 13. Migration And Its Effects On Population Abstract: Migration such as immigration or emigration is the transfer of alleles, which are responsible for genetic variations, from the gene pool of one population to another. Therefore, it may change allele frequencies or range due to the reproduction of the immigrated individuals. This study was performed to see how migration modifies the effects of frequent disasters on allele frequencies in moth populations. Migration would counteract the effects of natural disasters that increase genetic drift by introducing new alleles into the gene pool; this allows for new combinations and increases variability within populations. Keeping all other factors constant, PopGen was used to maneuver Hardy Weinberg s equilibrium parameters where different levels of migration decreases the harm caused by frequent and occasional disaster rates in a set population. As the migratory rate increases, the relative frequencies of each allele A a remained closed to 0.5, respectively, indicating that by increasing variability, migration decreases the impacts of disaster rates on a population. Introduction: Population genetics is the study of alleles frequency changes and distributions in response to the five factors that drive evolution natural selection, mutation, migration and genetic drift, within populations (McDonald and Linde, 2002). It focuses on interbreeding populations overall gene pool, and whether the present alleles changes over time. Alleles are gene variants at a loci in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The breeze brings the faint cries of those whose last breaths are leaving their mangled bodies. I walk past them. Their arms and legs are missing, their intestines spill out through the bullet holes in their stomachs, brain matter comes out of their noses and ears. Looking back at our first writing assignment and discussing the magnitude of interpretations on what feminism is and what it stands for, my opinions and views have certainly evolved throughout the course of the semester. Feminism, in all of its forms and interpretations, is expressed differently to each person. As for myself, I have never explored the vast variety of feminism until this past fall semester. From expressing my views from the first assignment, I can clearly say that my opinions have changed gradually throughout the semester. Three readings from our repertoire have really shaped my new outlook on feminism and what it holds to be for me. And as this semester in GWSS 1101 comes to a close, I look back on these readings to show how far I have come and the vast opportunities that I have yet to come in my exploration of feminism. Before I venture off into these three readings, I want to reflect back on my personal views of feminism at the beginning of the semester through the What Is Feminism? interview project. Included in the appendix, I have included the interview questions from my What Is Feminism? project. Throughout the interview project, I explained that a majority of my beliefs of feminism were hand fed to me by parents and my religion. The cultural primordialist is easier to accept in today s modern world. • 20. Informative Effects Of Holocaust Concentration Camps Daelyn Sagert September 5, 2017 Comp 4th Informative essay Holocaust Concentration Camps The Holocaust nearly made the Jewish population and religion disappear from the face of the Earth. From January 30, 1933 to May 8, 1945; Adolf Hitler, German politician and leader of the Nazi party, ran the Holocaust all over Germany and Eastern Europe. Prisoners and victims of the Holocaust include: the majority of the Jewish population, German Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats, Roma (Gypsies), Jehovah s Witnesses, homosexuals, and people accused of socially deviant or socially unacceptable behavior. They were sent to many different areas that had different purposes. The most used places they were sent to are called concentration camps. Once they entered the concentration camps, there was no escaping; those people officially became prisoners. There were 23 main concentration camps and around 900 sub camps. Concentration camps tricked the Jewish people into coming into them by offering them a better life on the welcoming signs outside. Some of the main camps had many different inhumane uses. All of the camps are notorious for their cruel and evil ways of everything that they did to prisoners, such as the genocide the Holocaust caused (Concentration Camps, Killing Methods, Jewish Population). A lesser known camp, Westerbork, is located in the Netherlands. This concentration camp was known as a Transit camp, which meant it wasn t the end of the line for the prisoners who arrived there. These camps were a temporary accommodation for the groups of prisoners that were being shipped throughout the country. Often these camps are where families were split up by German Nazi soldiers. Westerbork was used from October 1939 through April 1945. This camp was shut down by Canadian liberation. Westerbork still stands as a monument today (Concentration Camps). The next concentration camp, Dachau, is located in Germany. This camp was the longest running major concentration camp throughout the Holocaust. It started being used in March 1933 and was not shut down until April 1945. This was a forced labor camp, so the majority of people survived when at this camp, but you didn t always get to stay there unless you worked as hard as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Organic Farming Essay Since the time of when early settlers arrived in Jamestown, Virginia, farming has proven to be a reliable solution to many crises within the food industry. After all, learning how to farm from the Native Americans saved the colonies from famine during the 17th century. Fast forward a couple centuries to the 1800s. During the 1840s, commercial farming became a new trend as farmers began seeing quicker production and a bigger profit. The inventions of irrigation and chemical fertilizers also happened during this time. Subsequently, these farming techniques have further influenced the ones today. However, the introduction of organic farming methods has created uproar within the agricultural industry due to its impressive success. Polyface farms have become the leading icon for how organic farming methods can and will be most successful in the journey towards revitalizing the United States food industry. These organic farming techniques were formed based upon the issues that industrial farming uses. In Michael Pollan s article The Animals: Practicing Complexity, industrial farming techniques follow a clear, linear, hierarchical logic unlike Polyface s system, which is more difficult to describe. Many see industrial methods as disrespectful to the lives of animals in which we harvest. The practices that Polyface Farms use present Spencer 2 a way to honor the lives that are taken away from animals. As Pollan says, Farming is not adapted to large scale operations because ... • 26. Deforestation In Latin America Essay Deforestation is defined as: the clearing of virgin forests, or intentional destruction or removal of trees and other vegetation for agricultural, commercial, housing, or firewood use without replanting and without allowing time for the forest to regenerate itself (SCRIBD). Deforestation has been a problem in Latin America since the early 1900s and the severity of the dilemma is increasing rapidly. Deforestation not only has consequences for the environment, but also, the indigenous people and the national economy. The logging industry in Latin America is often exploited by multinational companies that are not properly regulated. The land that has provided a home and cultivated indigenous development for centuries is being dissipated rapidly. Due to an exponentially growing global population, there is an increased demand for low priced goods like timber, crops, and meat. Many Latin American countries value revenue from selling these goods over the health of their local ecosystems. The crisis of deforestation and habitat loss is shifting from a local to global problem. As deforestation continues, global warming escalates worldwide, impacting every country and person. About 15 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from tropical deforestation, which is more than from all the world s cars, trucks and buses combined (Schwartzman). The Shoelace By Charles Bukowski And Walking In The Blue Literature is Insanity When it comes to literature, many students have difficulty trying to understand the main reason the author wrote it. This is very evident in poems. Poems are verbal compositions designed to convey experiences, ideas, or emotions in a specific and creative way. They are characterized by the use of the way they are formatted and use literary techniques such as metaphors, similes, rhyme, and personification. With the many rules and forms that poems can have, a lot of them are hard to interpret. In this essay, I want to breakdown two poems meaning by comparing their similar underlying message by the authors similar styles and experiences. The two poems are The Shoelace by Charles Bukowski and Walking in the Blue by Robert Lowell. The Shoelace and Walking in the Blue are both poems that deal with the topic of understanding insanity. In Charles Bukowski s The Shoelace, he discusses the topic in a more typical and conventional view of insanity. While on the other hand, Robert Lowell focuses on the view of insanity from the view of noticeable and rough familiarities in his poem Walking in the Blue. The definition of insanity is the state of being mentally ill and a direct cause of insanity is mainly stress. Unfortunately, along with the luxuries of these areas comes with the risk of an array of tropical diseases, such as dengue fever. The thought of contracting this illness is not ideal for the perfect winter getaway but is beginning to become a somber reality with the dramatic increase of incidences in tropical climates globally. Dengue fever, also historically known as break bone fever, is caused by the dengue virus and is endemic in tropical areas around the world. If severe, the illness can progress to more serious conditions, including dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome. Dengue fever is emerging as a major global concern as an estimated 2.5 billion people are at risk and an increasing trend in annual number of cases over recent reported years (1,2). As the data shows the consumption of cereal has dropped about 5 7 percent these past couple of years (Trafecante, 2016). However, the reason is not the reducing number of people who eat breakfast, but the increasing number of variety of breakfast meal in the stores, which makes many people to switch to another type of breakfast food. As it mentioned in the New York Times article many companies, such as Kellogg, General Mills and Post, concerned about the reducing trend of sales are trying new innovative ways to stop the downward trend (Melisa, 2014). Since the half of the cereal consumers are adults they try to make the new products nostalgic to influence adults choices of breakfast type. Another reason that many cereal companies believe is the reason of the lowered consumption of cereal is the laziness of people, because as the article states the 40 percent of teenagers consider eating cereal on breakfast is inconvenient because they have to clean up afterwards, and they prefer to eat something that will not take much of their time (Mitchell, 2016). Norma Percy Death Of Yugoslavia Summary Nationalism, Security, and the Death of Yugoslavia Norma Percy s The Death of Yugoslavia frames the political events that took place towards the end of the Cold War that would ultimately result in the dissolvent of Yugoslavia. The Serbs claimed that their people were poorly treated at that the Albanians yearned for an ethnically pure Yugoslavia. Unlike his predecessor, Milosevic catered to the Serbs, lending an ear to their nationalistic tendencies instead of crushing it. As tensions mounted, Milosevic launched a Serbian crusade, taking over the sovereign republics of Vojvodina and Montenegro. According to Percy (1995), the republic of Kosovo, full of Albanians, put up a fight but eventually bowed to Serbia through military force.
