GEORGE WETTON
Snake
 Denotation
 reptile
 Connotation
 Slithering snake is often used for evil
devious characters. Characters that are
untrustworthy and deceitful.
Flag
 Denotation
 Piece of cloth being waved about.
 Connotation
 The flag symbolises a lot from just its
colours with red showing how brave we
are are and trustworthy. The stripes
lining down showing the many qualities
we have. White also symbolizes that
we have a light side. Often when
people see this flag they feel proud
and feel like they belong somewhere.
Gun
 Denotation
 Metal object which you put bullets in.
 Connotation
 Guns are often being associated with
violence or even in some cases
someone’s mood with them releasing
anger it like a gun being fired. Showing
that there angry and there could be
harmful consequences.
The Get Out poster is cleverly created in a way of its
giving what happens in the story through close analysis
but hasn’t put much in the poster. This is to leave you
intrigued and guess through what is going to happen in
the film. The background of colours between the Get and
the Out that there is a difference between both colours
and is displayed quite a bit in this poster through the way
that it connotates. It's how the colour of the word Get is in
white meaning their coming to get you and the black of
the font which is the word out is the black ethnicity
wanting to escape the whites or live in peace. The face of
Chris (the guy in the picture) is screaming at the idea
because in the film he's getting punished for the colour of
his skin. Also the old dusty effect at the bottom of the
poster shows that he's been treated in a place that isn't
kept very clean and is left in poor conditions. Also if you
look at it metaphorically the man is being tied up to the
chair is being and is being forced to witness the fight
between the two races almost like he is in the movie.
This Halloween poster shows how the mask has aged within time
in the same way the movie franchise has, which is great because
stereotypically this film is aimed at teenagers and they could
notice stuff like that a lot more. The glare less eyes are dark
matching the background of the poster showing the evil nature
between him and the things that are going on around him. Within
the darkness it could suggest the aim of the film and what he
wants things to be by the end of the film, which will be uncovered
through the narrative of the film. Michael Myers's mask is in a
looking down position almost like he's taking ownership over us.
There is also if you look closely a line in the darkness of the eye
of the mask with this being his eye it gives that creepy effect of
you can see him but you cant. The font of Halloween is in white
so that the title is recognisable in the darkness and with font
being that basic it gives a creepy effect. The mask always has
sad smile but is also pulling a sympathy face which is a creepy
effect as it’s a whole range of different emotions and you never
quite know how he's feeling. Thinking of the whole semiotics is
the connotation is representing something evil but the denotation
of it all shows that that it’s just a blankness face. The hypodermic
needle theory is being used where it shows that the audience
believe Michael Myers has aged but he has not aged the mask
has.
GTA video game posters are always done in the
same theme of the comic book style, this giving a
nice effect to when each new game comes out. The
various range of colours portray excitement to the
game and all sorts of things you can do when playing
it. The black border going around the poster also
help boost that comic book effect. The poster
portrays a many range of colours on purpose as a
place in the city would be shining in a purple effect.
There also certain characters on the poster Trevor
posing with a badass face to show that he means
business and make you instantly in love with the
character. There is also franklin who’s pulling the
same face which creates excitement as these are
two characters that you can play. The GTA game
always present in a linear narrative structure but with
this posters its almost contradicting its self with a lot
of various pictures of various scenes happening in no
order.
Soundtrack
 Clip 1:
Clip one portrays a lot more of tension with a
dramatic build up to a revelation or a secret to
be untold. A lot of seriousness and hostility
which almost make s it sound like a horror
 Clip 2:
 Clip two however is very light hearted and
shows that there might even be a bit a
romantic relationship between the two.
Shining
 Happy bright joyful music.
 Big difference from how things were miserable to how
they are when they move.
 Johny changes vastly when he meets the love of his
life, and is juxtaposing what he was like in the actual
horror film because he's a lot more caring.
 Edited with a lot of hugging scenes to make the
audience feel warm when watching it.
 Psychotic faces make him look funny when the film
is portrayed as a comedy.
 Old classic narrator adding a light touch.
Scary Mary
 Darker scenarios being portrayed in this trailer with it
talking about fog and the thing that the kids most love in
the film is the thing that they are most scared of in this
trailer.
 Horrific screams
 Slow start to have a build up
 The base of the film is creepy itself because she has
power which can be used in the wrong way.
 Fast paced, and not slow and gentle.
 Using the wind as one of the main horrors along with
Mary Poppins and bring in old saying like east wind
scares people because they have heard it a lot.

Clip Analysis
How power is created through certain aspects?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-jQL-0oxTA
 Costume: You can tell that Darth Vader is a baddie from his tall dark gloomy costume and the black cape at
the back with capes often being associated upon enemies terms.
 Lighting: has been giving a dark shadow effect to show him being released from evil, and then he releases
his red lightsabre with colour red also being associated as a evil colour, and theirs is blue having a more
positive touch tot their characters, but both lightsabres stand out with their colours.
 Dialogue: he talks to them like they are his pets, whilst they are a lot more afraid of him wanting to run away
as they they are scared. When Darth Vader talks he sounds dramatic, with help through his voice.
 Props: blue and red light sabres, different range of laser guns, bombs and a spaceship.
 Camerawork: the zoom on his face add the tension as the lightsabre is getting closer to him and is ready to
kill him. Also at the end you have a shot behind Darth Vader that shows him looking out to the distance at the
spaceship feeing away from him which add the dramatic tension.
 Editing: edited to be being two different point as its not just concentrating on the duel between Darth Vader,
Kanan and Ezra.
 Music: deep dramatic music is played within in the video to create the tension. The music pans out whenever
to people who are not fighting in the duo are talking. There is also Darth Vader's iconic theme tune being
played when he makes an entrance to add the effect to the audience. Rushed music as they are ready to
leave but goes into a quiet calm music when the craft takes off.
 Colour: the vibrant colours of the uniform that the team are wearing juxtapose Darth Vader's costume. Also
the smoke of the colour when Darth Vader rises up makes it a lot more epic of a moment.

  • 5. The Get Out poster is cleverly created in a way of its giving what happens in the story through close analysis but hasn’t put much in the poster. This is to leave you intrigued and guess through what is going to happen in the film. The background of colours between the Get and the Out that there is a difference between both colours and is displayed quite a bit in this poster through the way that it connotates. It's how the colour of the word Get is in white meaning their coming to get you and the black of the font which is the word out is the black ethnicity wanting to escape the whites or live in peace. The face of Chris (the guy in the picture) is screaming at the idea because in the film he's getting punished for the colour of his skin. Also the old dusty effect at the bottom of the poster shows that he's been treated in a place that isn't kept very clean and is left in poor conditions. Also if you look at it metaphorically the man is being tied up to the chair is being and is being forced to witness the fight between the two races almost like he is in the movie.
  • 6. This Halloween poster shows how the mask has aged within time in the same way the movie franchise has, which is great because stereotypically this film is aimed at teenagers and they could notice stuff like that a lot more. The glare less eyes are dark matching the background of the poster showing the evil nature between him and the things that are going on around him. Within the darkness it could suggest the aim of the film and what he wants things to be by the end of the film, which will be uncovered through the narrative of the film. Michael Myers's mask is in a looking down position almost like he's taking ownership over us. There is also if you look closely a line in the darkness of the eye of the mask with this being his eye it gives that creepy effect of you can see him but you cant. The font of Halloween is in white so that the title is recognisable in the darkness and with font being that basic it gives a creepy effect. The mask always has sad smile but is also pulling a sympathy face which is a creepy effect as it’s a whole range of different emotions and you never quite know how he's feeling. Thinking of the whole semiotics is the connotation is representing something evil but the denotation of it all shows that that it’s just a blankness face. The hypodermic needle theory is being used where it shows that the audience believe Michael Myers has aged but he has not aged the mask has.
  • 7. GTA video game posters are always done in the same theme of the comic book style, this giving a nice effect to when each new game comes out. The various range of colours portray excitement to the game and all sorts of things you can do when playing it. The black border going around the poster also help boost that comic book effect. The poster portrays a many range of colours on purpose as a place in the city would be shining in a purple effect. There also certain characters on the poster Trevor posing with a badass face to show that he means business and make you instantly in love with the character. There is also franklin who’s pulling the same face which creates excitement as these are two characters that you can play. The GTA game always present in a linear narrative structure but with this posters its almost contradicting its self with a lot of various pictures of various scenes happening in no order.

  • 18. Clip Analysis How power is created through certain aspects? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-jQL-0oxTA  Costume: You can tell that Darth Vader is a baddie from his tall dark gloomy costume and the black cape at the back with capes often being associated upon enemies terms.  Lighting: has been giving a dark shadow effect to show him being released from evil, and then he releases his red lightsabre with colour red also being associated as a evil colour, and theirs is blue having a more positive touch tot their characters, but both lightsabres stand out with their colours.  Dialogue: he talks to them like they are his pets, whilst they are a lot more afraid of him wanting to run away as they they are scared. When Darth Vader talks he sounds dramatic, with help through his voice.  Props: blue and red light sabres, different range of laser guns, bombs and a spaceship.  Camerawork: the zoom on his face add the tension as the lightsabre is getting closer to him and is ready to kill him. Also at the end you have a shot behind Darth Vader that shows him looking out to the distance at the spaceship feeing away from him which add the dramatic tension.  Editing: edited to be being two different point as its not just concentrating on the duel between Darth Vader, Kanan and Ezra.  Music: deep dramatic music is played within in the video to create the tension. The music pans out whenever to people who are not fighting in the duo are talking. There is also Darth Vader's iconic theme tune being played when he makes an entrance to add the effect to the audience. Rushed music as they are ready to leave but goes into a quiet calm music when the craft takes off.  Colour: the vibrant colours of the uniform that the team are wearing juxtapose Darth Vader's costume. Also the smoke of the colour when Darth Vader rises up makes it a lot more epic of a moment.
