Narrative Essay About Family
Crafting a narrative essay about family is undeniably challenging, as it requires delving into
personal experiences, emotions, and memories that are often complex and deeply intertwined. It
demands not only the ability to recount events but also the skill to weave them into a coherent
and engaging narrative that captivates the reader. Moreover, exploring familial relationships and
dynamics can evoke a myriad of emotions, ranging from joy and nostalgia to pain and
vulnerability, making the writing process both cathartic and emotionally taxing.
Additionally, the task of maintaining a balance between objectivity and subjectivity is daunting.
While the essay should remain true to personal experiences, it also needs to resonate with a
broader audience, conveying universal themes and insights that transcend individual anecdotes.
This necessitates careful reflection and introspection to extract meaningful lessons or revelations
from personal narratives.
Furthermore, the familial landscape is often rife with complexities, including conflicts, secrets,
and unresolved issues, which can pose challenges in crafting a cohesive narrative. Negotiating
these complexities requires sensitivity, empathy, and a willingness to confront uncomfortable
truths, all of which add layers of difficulty to the writing process.
Despite these challenges, writing a narrative essay about family can be a profoundly rewarding
endeavor, offering an opportunity for self-discovery, healing, and the celebration of familial
bonds. It allows for the exploration of identity, heritage, and the shaping forces of upbringing,
fostering a deeper understanding of oneself and one's place within the family unit and the
broader world.
In conclusion, while the task of writing a narrative essay about family may be arduous, it is also
immensely fulfilling, offering a platform for personal expression and introspection. By
navigating the complexities of familial relationships and experiences, writers can create narratives
that resonate with readers on a profound emotional level, offering insights into the universal
human experience.

ABC Model of Crisis Intervention
Introduction
Every person ultimately experiences crisis moments that may differ in content but
tend have specific shared characteristics. Usually, crisis entails loss, threat, as well as
the unexpected. There have been various theoretical techniques provided for assisting
those functioning through crisis. Generally, the most effectual techniques tend to
follow a short therapeutic model which stresses the episode isolated from other
problems and seeks an action plan to mitigate the crisis. The ABC model provides a
useful instrument to enhance the counseling procedure. A stands for basic attending

Jones house. The officers will try knocking at Mr. Jones door, hopefully he will
accept to open and if he fails, they will establish a friendly way of accessing the
house. Mr. John can help in this, since he understands the house better. After gaining
the access to the house, Mr. John will assist the officers in identifying Mr. Jones
and in a cheerful mood, the officers will greet him and make a friendly introduction,
elaborating the reason for their visit. The person elaborating the reason for the visit
should use more cheerful and joking language to make Mr. Jones feel at ease and
willing to welcome his guests.
Handshake will be exchange after Mr. Jones is comfortable with the group and the
fear of intrusion is over. The handshake should also involve assurance eye contact to
make him feel freer and secure while talking with the officers. The officer in charge
will mention how much they appreciate Mr. John s concern about his neighbors
welfare, and how this reflect on their strong friendship bond, in a joking manner to
clean the tension that could be remaining. Mr. Jones will also be given an
opportunity to introduce himself and say a word regarding the visit if willing to do
so. At this moment Mr. Jones is expected to give his state or explain why he has not
been meeting his friends as usual. The officers should note if there is any fear or
avoidance to talk about certain issues concerning his wellbeing, especially when
addressing Mr. John s concern
Analysis Of The Oppositonal Gaze By Bell Hooks
[1] In bell hooks childhood and upbringing as a woman of color in a society that is
dominated by patriarchy, it was hard for her to find images of herself in the media.
In her essay The Oppositonal Gaze: Black Female Spectators , she details how
black women do not see themselves properly represented in media due to a white
patriarchal society. Rather than showing the full scope of black women and their
diverse qualities and characteristics, they are generalized and forced to fit one
particular stereotype. With this image repeated time and time again, it is solidified in
the minds of the masses and this results in the underrepresented minority having a
lowered status upon viewing such media (hooks 118). This status forces them to look

As history is written by the victors, those in power decide what is included in
history and what is left out, either intentional or simply out of negligence. Upon
viewing Walker s work, it becomes evident that the skepticism that hooks argues is
needed to create a truth from the distortions of film is also necessary when
analyzing written history. The sketch is the embodiment of the very skepticism that
defines the oppositional gaze. As hooks questions the way in which black women
are presented in a single light, Walker s gaze is interrogative of the praise bestowed
unto individuals who are favored by those who decide what is included in written
history. She dismantles idealistic representations of those deemed heroes. Her search
for truth may appear to be ill mannered, but her cause is noble enough to justify these
means of expression.
[3] To understand how Walker applies the oppositional gaze hooks describes, we
must first see how her work creates a look that opposes the traditionally accepted
representation. Her piece places a great importance on the actions of viewing and
looking. The image itself appears to be occurring within a fisheye lens, a type of
visual distortion that is commonly used to achieve a wider scope and array of angles
of view, allowing for a variety of perspectives to be analyzed. One of importance is
the gaze of the black woman
Skipping Affecting Heart Rate
Title: How does skipping affect your heart rate.
Aim: How does skipping affect the heart rate.
Background: When you begin to work out a couple things change in your body, you
start to breathe faster, and your heart begins to beat faster, which delivers more
oxygen rich blood into your muscles. Each time you inhale, you fill your lungs with
oxygen. That oxygen goes into the blood and is pumped around your muscles, where
the oxygen is used to break down carbohydrates and fat into energy. Your body also
makes carbohydrate at the same time. The less oxygen rich blood is then pumped
back to the lungs where it exits the body when you exhale.
A normal heart rate at rest can range from 60 100 beats per minute (BPM) for adults.

Characteristics Of Joseph Stalin As A Leader
Throughout the millennia that humans have been forming societies with leaders,
there have been many different kinds of leaders, some effective and others not.
Shakespeare s Julius Caesar shows examples of leaders who prevailed over time and
leaders who didn t. This information combined with knowledge of other past leaders
can be used to establish common traits among effective leaders and common traits
among ineffective leaders. Although Joseph Stalinis primarily considered a cruel
tyrant, he also exhibits several of the leadership traits deemed most effective. While
most can agree that his practices were immoral, it is often forgotten that due to his
organization, practicality, and determination, Stalin was a decidedly effective leader.
Joseph Stalin, from the time that he was a low level revolutionary to the years that he
spent as the dictator of the Soviet Union, always knew what he needed to do to
achieve his goals. His organized rise to power allowed him to gain a steady flow of
followers who would support him for decades to come. Stalin received a minor
government position in 1917, but by the time a new leader was needed in 1924, he
had turned the largely routine post of Party general secretary into the most powerful
office in the Soviet Union ( Joseph Stalin) and had built a personal empire for
himself through his control over committee appointments at all levels . . .

An Analysis Of George Gershwin s An American Folk Opera
An American Folk Opera. George Gershwin s most successful piece of expansive
musical drama was subtitled with this term that no musician or critic had applied to
a work of musical drama before the 1935 premiere of Porgy and Bess. Much has
been written about the work s subtitle; its literal meaning, its evolution, and its
implications for a changing cultural landscape. Porgy and Besswas the last in a
triptych of literature and theater surrounding the character of Porgy, a crippled
beggar living in Charleston s semi fictitious Catfish Row. Porgy, the 1925 novel
written by white author DuBose Heyward, was the original. The novel received
mixed reviews; white critics praised Heyward s vivid descriptions of the life of the

Dvorak s Symphony No. 9, From the New World was based upon spirituals and
plantation song from the South. Bartok s Ten Easy Pieces for piano were heavily
influenced by folk melody [that was] a kind of inspirational motto to be developed.
Gershwin understood there to be a need for a truly American voice in music,
comparable to those of the great nationalist European composers, recognizing that
The only kinds of music which endure are those which possess form in the universal
sense and folk music. All else dies.
Similar to Dvorak in his ninth symphony, the idiom that Gershwin employed for his
opera was that of the Negro spiritual and folk song. Before composing Porgy and
Bess, Gershwin made a trek down to Charleston, South Carolina and some of its
outlying island communities with the purpose of studying rural African American
culture. It was there that he became immersed in the music of that community and it
was there that he garnered his inspiration for the opera s score. Again harkening to
the traditions of the European masters, Gershwin decided against the note for note
transcription of the songs he had heard, but rather used them as inspiration for a
continuous musical narrative of folk inspired themes. Thus, we arrive at the term
folk opera. Gershwin s use of African American folk material in the composition of
an opera gave rise to the literal terminology
Frontal Lobe Analysis
Every single memory, feeling, movement, ability and action has always started and
ended in the same place: the brain. Everyday movements like breathing, yawning, or
even reading would not be possible without the brain. It holds the everyday life of a
human. Even though the brain holds eight major parts, each part contains its own
special abilities to contribute to the actions a body is able to do, from the simplest
movements to the most complex thoughts. Each and every braincontains all of the
same components: neurons, nerve cells, synapses, astrocytes, and individual sections,
mapped out like continents on a globe. Neurons, cells that collect information from
nerve cells, are what sends out the collected information to the parts... Show more

The function of the cerebral cortex can be understood by dividing it... into zones,
much like the geographical arrangement of continents (BrainFacts. org, 2012). One
of the divided zones is the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe is in charge of initiating
and coordination of motor movements, like thinking, planning and organizing. The
parietal lobe, which is located in the top back part of your brain, is involved with
the sensory processes, attention, and understanding of language. If damage were to
be applied to this lobe, there could be severe consequences; damage to the left side
would impair the ability to understand spoken or written language, while damage to
the right side would result in difficulty navigating spaces. The back of the brain holds
the occipital lobe. This lobe is what processes the visual information received through
the eyes and helps to identify shapes and colors seen. The last lobe of the brain is the
temporal lobe. It is what processes auditory information given. The temporal lobe
combines the information from the other senses. In the temporal lobe, emotional
responses go through the amygdala, the mass of gray matter inside the left and right
hemisphere. The brain is selective when it processes the moments that come through
one of our senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. It then sends the experience to
the correct part of the brain which then sends out the appropriate reaction to the sense

Essay On Durban Botanic Gardens
INTRODUCTION The Durban Botanic Gardens plays a very vital and significant
role in our city, empowering social economics and horticulture in our great city.
Sadly, with the growth of technology the youth appear to have neglected the respect
we once had in the past. This writing will aim to inform the youth of the interesting
experience that I had at the gardens with the hopes of convincing them to
participate and further understand the environment we live in. Thus making it it
easier to find remedy solutions for the sinking ship earth slowly sinking into land
degradation and global warming. HISTORY The Durban Botanic Gardens is one
of the oldest surviving botanic garden in Africa and is Durban s oldest public
institutions. The garden was established in 1849 back when the city was not well
developed. The original location of the DGB was the south bank of the Umgeni
River and was later moved to the lower slopes of Berea forest because of the river s
hippo and crocodile populations (eThekwini Municipality 2014:4). For over 150
years the gardens have dedicated itself to education of biodiversity, heritage,... Show

the host Trevor Noah is making fun of facebook and Cambridge Analytica. It also
uses Irony and Hyperbole along with other forms of satire to help get the point

convincing. The problem addressed in Electronic Brainwashing was that facebook

The Legal Field At Point Park University
Yogi Berra believed that, Baseball is 90 percent mental and the other half is
physical. From my tenure as a college softball pitcher at Point Park University, I
learned how imperative being mentally sound is to the game of softball. The legal
field is a very demanding field. I know my experiences gained on the diamond will
allow me to flourish in a field dependent upon mental toughness. Foremost, being a
pitchermade me realize how important it is to have a short term memory. When I
was on the mound, I knew that the result of the previous batter had no bearing on
what the next batter would do. For example, when I gave up a big hit, before the
next batter came to the plate, I had to forget about what just happened. In softball,
it is important to not dwell on the negatives, but learn from them. Because of
pitching, I know yesterday s failures can turn into tomorrow s successes. I plan to
have the same attitude in the legal field when obstacles come my way. In addition,
pitching has taught me that there are some things in life that I will never be able to
control. Success on the mound is dependent on a variety of factors. Umpires, field
conditions, the weather, and plays my team made all had an impact on the on the
outcome of a game. When it was raining, I understood that I had no control over the
weather. However, I could make small adjustments to my routine to preform better in
unfavorable conditions. In a similar manner, when an umpire made a call I did not
agree
Life After St. Jerome s Indian Horse Novel Study
Life after St. Jerome s: Indian Horse Novel Study For years, First Nations children
endured the harrowing experiences of residential schools. It was not until 1996, did
the final residential school close down. It took over a hundred years of physical,
physiological, and the sexual abuse of thousands of children before residential
schools existed no more. Although they do not exist anymore, residential schools
continue to cause pain throughout First Nationscommunities. There are a variety of
novels that describe the accounts of residential school survivors, both fiction and
non fiction, each powerful in their own way. Indian Horse, a novel by Richard
Wagamese, is one of these novels. The book follows Saul Indian Horse, a boy of
Ojibwe descent, and his experiences within St. Jerome s Indian Residential School.
Saul turns to hockey as a form of protection from the fowl memories of his
experiences at St. Jerome s, using the game to ignore the sexual abuse he endured.
This denial results in Saul s pain, which comes out in the form anger on the ice,
and which ultimately results in him taking up alcohol. It is only when Saul returns
to St. Jerome s, that he is able to stop the denial, and begin his path to healing.
Richard manages to lead the reader down the same path of denial as Saul, therefore
allowing the reader to experience the same feeling of shock as felt by Saul in his
moments of realization. Saul s denial of his sexual abuse

Max Weber s Relationship Between Individuals And Social...
We have no essence waiting to unfold itself but are instead remarkably malleable
creatures whose capacities and dispositions are formed and reformed in the various
spheres of life in which we are placed and place ourselves. Critically evaluate this
statement.
The statement above is based on an analysis of work by one of the founding figures
of sociology, Max Weber. Weber is one of the first sociologists of conduct and
someone for whom conduct provided a means to understand the relationship between
individuals and social worlds. Weber supports a view that we assume very little about
the core ingredients that define all human beings across time and place and although
human capacities may seem natural or innate, they cannot be assumed to have existed
by all people through out history (Moles, 2014). The statement draws our attention to
some important sociological concerns; namely, the issue of conduct, but also to what
extent questions of conduct inform an account of a thin essence of individual.
The essay will firstly provide an overview of the thin account of the individual
relevant to questions of conduct, explaining the definition of conduct and its
significance sociologically. Key concepts of agency, agencement and figuration will
be discussed in light of relevant theories using examples of the conduct of self
service shopping and notions of prudence. The merits of the thin account of the
individual will be summarised in relation to the examples put forward
Oklahoma Is An Oil Rich State And The Most Important...
Introduction
Oklahoma has been on the spotlight for the last few years owing to the increase in
earthquakes. Particularly, 2014 served a wake up call for stakeholders such as
government, researchers and oil and gas industry members as a result of a sharp rise
in earthquakes reported in the area. The year saw Oklahoma receiving more
earthquakes than compared to California, a region that is more culpable to the
earthquakes scene. In adition, 2014 also marked the largest earthquake reported in the
history of the region, reporting a massive 5.6 magnitude. With these developments,
continous research has been conducted and the review of peer and academic journals
written by past reseaerchers and academic institutions collected to add on the data
required to unearth the cause of the frequency of registered earthquakes as well as the
underlying factors that contribute to seismic activity.
Oklahoma is an oil rich state and as such has seen the production of oil and gas
become one of the most important economic activities of the region. The methods
applied during this process such as the controversial hydraulic fracturing has come
under increased scrutiny as it has been termed as one of the main causes of increased
seismic activity in the state. Scholars, researchers and scientists on their quest to
reveal the truth of the matter have reveaied different causes to explain the seismic
behavior. This paper will therefore focus on these research findings that attempt to

French and Indian Wars (1688 1763) The French and Indian Wars is the American
name for the series of wars that occurred in North America from 1688 1763. They
included King William s War, Queen Anne s War, King George s war, and the
French and Indian War, also known as the 7 years war. A major motive to the wars
was the control of North American territory and especially Hudson Bay, which
was very important to the fur trade business. King William s War (1688 1697) King
William s War was the first of the French and Indian Wars. The war was caused due
to the treaties and agreements made at the end of King Phillip s War not being
followed. Another main component was control over the fur trade industry and
supremacy of North America. King William s War was ended by the Treaty of
Ryswick in 1697. The treaty gave back north American territorial gains during the
war back to the original holders. Queen Anne s War / War of Spanish Succession
Queen Anne s War was the second of the French and Indian Wars and was fought
between 1701 and 1714. The main reasons for the war included the rivalry between
France and England in America, a problem that was not solved by the Treaty of
Ryswick in 1697. Two months after Queen Anne rose to the British throne, the three
allied powers declared war on France on May 1702. The Treaty of Utrecht ended the
war and gave Britain fur trading posts in the Hudson Bay area, Newfoundland, and

Statistical Analysis Of Medical Marijuana

In order to assess whether the percent of a state identifying as liberal has an
influence on the passage of marijuana legalization referenda, statistical analysis was

The mean percent vote for medical marijuana is 59.70% with a standard deviation
of 6.84. The range for medical marijuana is 21 with at least one state with a high of
71% voting for medical marijuana and one state with a low of 59% voting for
medical marijuana. The mean percent vote for recreational marijuana is lower at

While the number of states that vote to legalize marijuana is increasing, many states
are still against legalizing marijuana. The research conducted was aimed at
identifying the connection between the dominating political ideology of a state and
the likelihood of that state voting to legalize marijuana for medical or recreational use.
The results reveal that states with a greater number of voters that vote liberal are
more likely to vote to legalize recreational marijuana. However, the results also show
that this is not the case for medical marijuana. Additionally, in regards to the research
hypothesis, while the results provide some indication that states with more residents
that identify as politically liberal are more likely to legalize marijuana for
recreational use than are more conservative states, that suggestion must remain just a
suggestion since the results failed to be statistically significant. A likely reason as to
why the results of this study were not significant is due to the relatively small sample
size. Not all of the fifty states in the United States have yet to address the legalization
of marijuana. Many of the states with the smallest liberal populations have not voted
on the future of this issues in their state. In addition, many of the states with large
numbers of conservatives in the sample used in this study are Western states. This is

Gun Control Restrictions
The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, which is the highest total in the
world. The guns was first intended for hunting and self protection. Later on, it was
brought into the military for use. For that reason, people believe that guns can only
be used in the military. Others say that the Second Amendment gives them the right
to have guns and use it for protection. This was for if any person tried to attack them,
they would have protection with them at all times. Later on, guns got used for the
wrongs reasons. More crimes were being develop, like the assassination of President
John F. Kennedy. Now, people want more restrictions on gun
ownership and how it
should be used. If some restrictions were to be made, some say it will not make
much of a difference. Guns use had lead to violence in the past, but also it coud be a
good protection for humans against attackers. The argument that may still be going
on today is if the United Statesshould put more restrictions on gun ownership and
use. The reasons why people are still asking for more restrictions is because more
crimes and shooting as been happening lately. There were about 126 mass shootings
around 2001 to 2014. The opponents of this issue think that if more restrictions were
made, that would not change the fact that there would be as much shootings as there
was. Reasons to believe this was that even with more restrictions, shootings would
still go on. Nothing would stop the criminals from killing others. Now,

he takes Jamal to be interrogated by the police to get a confession from Jamal
proving he is cheating. This is when Jamal is forced to explain the how he knew
each question by recounting his poverty filled life. This helped me what he had to

Whilst the conflict caused the flashbacks, they showed us his vivid acts of love for
Latika. The show for him wasn t about the money. He went on so that Latika could

and overcoming his poverty. Slumdog Millionaire and the Exploitation of the

not only unrealistic but in some ways disregards the real issues surrounding the

Published research does not include a detailed or frank discussion of the four main
healthcare management functions of a director of maternal child services.
Therefore, I contacted Dorinda Kirby, RN, for a knowledgeable discussion of the
four main healthcare management functions of a director for maternal child services.
Mrs. Kirby is an expert in the field, having practiced for 34 years. Of the 34 years,
Mrs. Kirby served three years on the staff as a charge RN, 25 years as a nurse
manager and six years as a director. Mrs. Kirby is the Director of Maternal Child

those goals, and developing a comprehensive hierarchy of plans to integrate and

ability to be more effective, she discussed defining goals, establishing a strategy,
developing plans to manage activities and encouraging organizational members to
keep attentive. Mrs. Kirby stated that the goal for the nursing staff is
Stewart Baker Metaadata Research Paper
World is full of colors, it s like a rainbow that connect people to the world. There is

are huge importance to each other. Stewart Baker said, Metadata absolutely tells
you everything about somebody s life. If you have enough metadata, you don t
really need content. Metadata is a data that record people s life, but however, it
cannot record people s life. Inside of people s brains, there are recorders that are
called memories, every valuable movements in in them. But for metadata is just a
data. I disagree with Stewart Baker because metadata is not a record of life, people

As life goes on, things get more complicated. People are growing up, they are no
longer children, but adults who face reality. Real life is nothing like fairy tales.
Problems are not being easily solved and confusions are everywhere. There is
never a long period of rest and peace. People should always be aware of everything
preventing them to live an easy life. Life could not be record by metadata, because
it is too long and too complicated. Life is not just a piece of paper that list
everything about people who signed up for it. It s just like a map that tells people
where they were in a certain age. When people get old, they will not care about what
they achieved. They will only care about the beautiful memories they have. It is the
most precious thing they have. It would be hard to live in a life with only facts and
without feelings. Because facts do not mean anything. The experiences and feelings
created facts. Without humanity, metadata means nothing but bunch of
American Realist Movement
HAS THE AMERICAN REALIST MOVEMENT LEFT ANY SUBSTANTIAL
MARK ON JURISPRUDENTIAL THOUGHT? We must approach this question in
consideration of the fact that the American Realist movement never purported to
formulate a complete theory of law which could stand alone to tell us what law is.
Instead, the basis was that official conduct in dispute settlement in all kinds of
dispute was the focal point for the analysis of the law s impact, facilitating the ability
to make legal predictions based on expected official action. I think that to measure
the impact of this type of thinking on jurisprudential thought, we need to keep in
mind how it seeks to differ from other theory. There are quotations that encompass
Realism s ideals very well.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even Hart himself admits that, В‘at the fringe ofВ…. (law), we should welcome
the rule sceptic. However he masks this with the В‘unquestionably rule governed
operations over the vast, central areas of the law. Most positivists will admit that
judicial discretion is inevitable in hard cases, and that decisions of the common
law are posited in the courts, but the important thing for the realist is that law in it
s entirety is a shoreless world of uncertainty. For me, the realist ideal is a tool
whereby we can consider decisions throughout the vast central areas of law that
Hart suggests, more than we could from a positivist or natural law stance. The
reason is that if what the realists say is credible, we must accept that in some or all
central cases, a judge can pick from a number of precedents as discussed, in order to
find the one that best fits his predetermined and subjective answer. However, view
this from the positivist outlook, and the whole process fits together nicely. The judge
has simply applied a posited rule and achieved the right outcome subject to a rule of
recognition. For both the realist and the positivist, the decision is law. The difference
though, is that realism allows us to think about the moral dilemmas within the
adjudication, whilst positivism does not need to consider any moral accordance to
rationalize its theory. Just considering the argument in this way, it becomes clear that
the realist approach could certainly be said to have more practical
Impact Of The Nigerian Presidential Amnesty Program
In this paper, I estimate the impact of the Nigerian Presidential Amnesty Program
(Amnesty), a local form of Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR),
on crude oil production in Nigeria. The President of Nigeria announced the program
on June 25th, 2009 which aimed to put an end to the insurgency crisis experienced in
the Niger Deltaregion, particularly between 2006 2009 which had led to an average
loss of about 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day (cited in Asuni, 2009) and which
had major implications for the government s revenue. Militants were given the
opportunity for a state pardon by submitting their weapons in exchange for
empowerment training and monthly stipends of N65,000 per month. I used a
difference in difference approach and the results indicate an average increase of about
73% in crude oil production in the treated states.
The production and export data for this work was retrieved from the Nigerian
National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) database, the regulating body for the Oil
and Gas industry, beginning from Q1, 2005, to Q4, 2013. I also collected crude oil
prices from the British Petroleum website. Although the Amnesty Program led to a
significant increase in oil production, it does not necessarily suggest it is the best
policy that could have been adopted due to its challenges. Introduction The Niger
Delta region, the Nigeria crude oil base, had witnessed numerous protests at various
times by its citizens over resource wealth and control.
Advantages Of A Holding Company
HOLDING COMPANY
A holding company is a parent company that owns sufficient voting shares in a
company to control its management, governing policies. A holding company buys or
otherwise obtains a majority percentage of stock in a company, which becomes and
known as subsidiary company. Sometimes a pure holding company distinguishes
itself by adding Holding or Holdings to its name.
As per company law, a company which is controlled by another company is called as
a subsidiary company and the company which is controlling another company is
called as a holding company. The control can be via control of management or via
ownership of shares.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A HOLDING COMPANY AND SUBSIDIARY
COMPANY
The terms holding and subsidiary are used to express the managerial, financial, legal
and principal relationships between special types of business organization, which
includes financial institutions and corporations. A holding company means a body
which is incorporated to acquire and grip the majority of shares of other companies;
a subsidiary is a business whose mass of the shares is owned by a holding company.
The differences between a holding company and subsidiary company are as under:

Holding company buys the bulk of the shares in another company, which becomes as
its subsidiary. A holding company must control more than 50% of company s stock
before it s considered a subsidiary. Holding companies may in addition hold other
holding companies in this case they are known as top holding companies. The
holding company has all privileges and farm duties of ownership for its subsidiaries.
The subsidiaries are not autonomously owned; often continue to function as
individual entities, though key corporate decisions are made by holding

A Research Study On Ikea
1.0. Research Background
In the present 21st century, the pressure of market competition has increased
significantly. Under this environment, customer loyalty is the focus of both
management practice and marketing practice of modern enterprises. It is the key for
enterprises to get trust from customers and retain existing customers with the
capability to deliver added value for customers.
In the current competitive environment, customers have been provided with a wide
range of choices to satisfy their needs and demands at the global level. It means that
customers bargaining power has increased dramatically in the present business
environment. It not only adds pressure on enterprises to develop new customers, but
also increases the difficulty for enterprises to retain existing customers. Therefore, the
development of customer loyalty is often the challenges for enterprises although its
importance has been generally accepted. This research attempts to add implications
for enterprises to develop and maintain customer loyalty.
This research focuses on IKEA China as IKEA has achieved great success in China
market. As an international corporation that come from Sweden, IKEA has
established about 20 stores across China. Its products have been hotly welcome by
Chinese consumers. Based on the assumption that the capability to delivery added
value for customers is the critical success factor of IKEA, this research attempts to
investigate how customer perceived value impacts on
Satan As A Hero In Che s Paradise Lost
Imagine being in downtown Havana, Cuba, a place whose people have few
freedoms and you walk by a student proudly wearing a Che Guevara T shirt. Che, a
past dictator of Cuba, was a Marxist/atheist revolutionary rebel leader who rose up
and defeated Batista in 1959. To a handful of Cubans, he is a hero and represents
freedom. Che successfully established an authority over Cubaand remains, to this day,
a symbol of rebellion for many. Che executed political enemies, burned bibles and
church libraries, put 10 s of thousands of Cubans in concentration camps, and did
many more cruel things. The irony, however, is that Che was truly a cruel man,
certainly more of a villain than a hero. Similarly, readers of the poem, from Paradise

villains because they have similar traits that are manifested in their lives. The
character of Satan is like the common villain in which he is fueled by rebellious
traits such as greed, envy, the want for power, etc. As Satan creates tension with
God, the reader is drawn into the poem by Satan s rebellious attitude, which
engages their imagination. To do aught good never will be [Satan or his Demon s]

Summary Of Drenched In Light By Zora Neale Hurston
In Drenched in Light by Zora Neale Hurston, it has elements of being too
minstrelsy for the Harlem Renaissance, which I agree with. The little girl, Isis, has
a personality that hooks readers into the story. Everything about Isis is a way to
keep the readers and everyone included in the story captivated. Some people would
disagree by saying, Hurston wrote Drenched in Light the way she did to satisfy the
imagination of the white person. People said, Hurston s intention for her stories was
to get the white peopleto go away so she can continue writing about her own
expressive identity/voice. Minstrelsy was an exploitative form of musical theater that
exaggerated real life black circumstances and reinforced dangerous stereotypes during
the 19th and 20th centuries ( History of Minstrelsy USF). According to that
definition, minstrelsy was essentially a method for white people to use the African
American s and their lives as entertainment, which is Isis s sole purpose in this story.
Isis becomes powerless over her thoughts and motions when music begins to play.
According to the texts, Music to Isis meant motion. In a minute razor and whipping
forgotten, she was doing a fair imitation of a Spanish dancer she had seen in a
medicine show sometime before (Hurston 171). The first sentence of that quote
shows that anytime Isis hears music playing her mind goes blank and she starts to
move. As soon as, music plays it means Isis must dance like it was programmed into

Human Digestive System
Human Digestive System
Single celled organisms can directly take in nutrients from their outside environment.
Multi cellular animals, with most of their cells removed from contact directly with
the outside environment, have developed specialized structures for obtaining and
breaking down their food. The human digestive system is a complex series of organs
and glands that processes food. It is a coiled, muscular tube (6 9 meters long when
fully extended) extending from the mouth to the anus. Inside this tube is a lining
called the mucosa. In the mouth, stomach, and small intestine, the mucosa contains
tiny glands that produce juices to help digest food. This tube also includes the
pharynx, esophagus, large intestine, and anus. ... Show more content on

At the junction of the esophagus and stomach, there is a ring like valve closing the
passage between the two organs. However, as the food approaches the closed ring,
the surrounding muscles relax and allow the food to pass. We can also swallow the
food upside down because the muscles around the esophagus are strong enough to
push the food up to our stomach.
The food then enters the stomach, a sack that receives the food from the
esophagus. The stomach is located just below the heart. It has three mechanical
tasks to do. First, the stomach stores the swallowed food and liquid. This requires
the muscle of the upper part of the stomach to relax and accept large volumes of
swallowed material. The second job is to mix up the food, liquid, and digestive juice
(acids and enzymes that help to break the food down into a thick liquid or paste
called chyme) produced by the stomach. The lower part of the stomach mixes these
materials by its muscle action. The third task of the stomach is to empty its contents
slowly into the small intestine. Food usually remains in the stomach for about two
hours.
After leaving the stomach the food enters the small intestine. The small intestine is a
20 to 25 foot tube that is coiled up in the abdomen. The center of the small intestine is
right behind our belly button. The most important part of digestion takes place in the
small intestine. As the thick liquid food paste travels
Richard Cory And Boey s Poetry
In Edwin Arlington Robinson s poem Richard Cory and in T.R. Hummer s poem
Glass Ceiling, the theme of people shielding themselves and others from reality for
social reasons is exemplified in both works of poetry. Both famous American
poems illustrate how humans interact with each other and the familiar relationships
we have. We can interpret the idea of masking ourselves and hiding from reality
from these two poems. Such examples are found in the following poems. In the
poem by Edwin Arlington Robinson, he had portrayed his main character, Richard
Cory, as a very fine gentleman who was perfect in every way possible. The speaker
of the poem is only known to be of lower social and economic status when the speaker
had mentioned Cory going down town, the speaker mentioned that We people on the
pavement looked at him, indicating that the speaker is a part of a subordinate
community and when the speaker says So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread, the speaker reveals that the
community that s/he lives in is struggling and is desperate for help. Although, the

In Richard Cory, Cory can be taken as some sort of an archetype of people who
don t project their true emotions and are under a mask that shields them from
reality. What made the death of Richard Cory all the more surprising is that every
reader had expected him to be the absolute greatest person to be and we must strive
to be like him. When the grandmother of the speaker had died in Glass Ceiling, the
speaker couldn t help, but deny the reality that is that his grandmother or mother had
died and therefore shielded himself from reality. These two poems parallels our
everyday life and how we shield ourselves upon the reality bestowed on

The Gender Wage Gap In Film And Television

Gender Wage Gap in Film and Television
The gender wage gap and glass escalator are worldwide problems that permeate
through a multitude of occupations, and no industry perpetuates these more blatantly
than film and television. The gender wage gap is the continual disparity between the
average salary of a male worker and the average salary of a female worker with the
same or similar jobs or ranking of job. The glass escalator refers to the idea that
women and minorities progress up the hierarchical ladder in their job fields slower
than men do. In the film and television industry, the gender wage gap and glass
escalator can be seen most prominently between actors and actresses in both leading
and supporting roles; however, this gap can also be seen between male and female
directors. It is also not limited to just one country or continent, spanning across both
North America and Europe. Actresses and female directors across the globe deserve
to be compensated as much as the actors and male directors they work with because it
benefits the industry financially and creatively.
Across many American industries, the gender wage gap has been proven to be a
major financial issue. There is no clear and concrete reason for its existence, but
researchers have found that lowered perceived competence and commitment to the
job, lack of negotiation, and general employer sexism all contribute to the
prolongation of the

Book Review: How the Other Half Lives
In How the Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis, Riis reveals and decries the horrific
conditions that the urban poor and immigrants were subjected to as a result of shifts
in the social order brought about by industrialization. Riis, a Danish immigrant
himself, had a heart for the poor and wrote the How the Other Half Lives, also a
photojournalist endeavor, to provide social commentary about urban poverty and the
willingness of the upper class to turn a blind eye and allow the other half to live in
destitution.

He makes multiple comments against immigrants that are somewhat derogatory
and also brings up some points in the book over and over again. However, although
it may be tedious to read variations of the same topic, when evaluating Riis
strategies from a historical perspective, it makes sense to repeat certain things
constantly as doing so underscores the significance of the topic. For example, Riis
brings up the topic of disorderly conduct multiple times throughout the book. During
the late 1800s, the poor did not have many options when it came to making a
livelihood. Most earned very little and some earned so little that they had to live in
the sewers because they could not afford to live in tenements. To cope with the
pressure of living, the poor turned to alcohol and engaged in illegal activity. Even
young children became involved in thievery because their parents were not making
enough to sustain them. During this time period, alcoholism and crime were very
prominent issues. By bringing up these issues repeatedly, Riis stresses the historical
significance the issues and calls for

The Use Of Drugs And Drug Abuse In The United States
Drugs are on the uptrend here in America, with more than 120 people dying per
day of drug overdose, according to the Penington Institute. Many people, including
President Trump, have pinpointed Mexico as a source of many of the drugs
consumed in the US. President Trump voiced his views in the speech in 2015 as he
announced his Presidential bid: They re sending people that have lots of problems,
and they re bringing those problems with us. They re bringing drugs. They re
bringing crime. Mr. Trump is right about one thing: Mexicans are smugglingdrugs
into the US. According to a report released by US Customs and Border Protection in
2015, 99.8% of methamphetamine and 99.9% of marijuana captured by the
organization were at the border shared with Mexico.
Even though it is not possible to know exactly how much of the drugs consumed in
the US are imported from Mexico, it is reasonable to deduce from the Customs and
Border Protection figures that the percentage of drugs from Mexico consumed in the
US is a high percentage. Even though this is a major problem in our country today,
drugs imported from Mexico and consumed in America is a problem the the Mexican
and American governments have been trying to solve for half a century. Since the
1960s, the Mexican and American government have imposed ever increasingly
stringent laws on the drug. However, this approach certainly hasn t decreased the use
of drugs in America, but why? I believe that the laws and policies put into action by
the US and Mexico have been largely ineffective because the institutions that put
these laws into effect cannot enforce them, due to lack of funding, corruption in all
levels of government and law enforcement, and the lack of knowledge on the drug
trade.
One of the first investigations into the drug trade, Operation Intercept, occurred in
1969. The report, published by the Secretary of the Treasury, David Kennedy, and the
Attorney General, John Mitchell, outlines and exposes many problems in the effort to
curb the flourishing trade of drugs from Mexico to America. One of the problems that
is repeated several times is the lack of manpower in multiple organizations, including
Border Patrol and Bureau of Customs, two departments that are

Berkeley s Argument For The Dismissal Of Material
Objects...
To be just is to be perceived , or as Irish philosopher George Berkeley prefers to put
it, esse est percipi . In this argument, Berkeley details extensively how material
objects, as humans have come to know them, do not exist. Berkeley uses a series
of premises to aid in the elimination of skepticism surrounding the existence of the
world humans have come to know and grow fond of. At first read, Berkeley s
conclusion that the abstract ideas of substance, matter, or any physical objects
simply are not real is very hard to grasp when humans have based their
justifications on what is real versus not real on their own senses, and the validation
of other people. However, Berkeley does an excellent job of making an argument
one cannot refute. In order to fully understand Berkeley s argument for the
dismissal of material objects, one must understand his preceding argument on
abstract ideas. According to Berkeley, the existence of abstract ideas is actually a
myth. Humans tend to generalize concepts, such as the general idea of a table, a
car, or a triangle, for example. However, Berkeley claims in his argument that there
is no explainable way to have a general idea of anything. So if someone tells another
to think of a table, that person will have a very specific picture of a very specific
table maybe a brown dining table with large, carved wooden legs, or a plastic
folding table. There is not one table that has all of the characteristics of a table and

features 127 pages containing an introduction (from page 3 to 7), four main chapters
(from page 9 to 120), a conclusion (pages 121 and 122), a bibliography (from page
123 to 126) and finally a table of contents at the end of the book (page 127). The
book is written in French and can be found in the collection В«Que sais je?В» at the
Presses Universitaires de France editions (known also as Puf).
Thesis
The goal of the author is to delineate the field of intercultural management and to
clarify its content for the reader.

The reader will also find thoughts, which tell that this kind of management is not an
accurate science and researches are still in progress to improve the intercultural
managerial strategies (В«However, knowledge gathered together so far are often
rough and the experiences achieved still too rare to see the practices reach
maturity.В» p. 121).
This could either disappoint the reader who expected a straight answer at the end
of the book or invite the reader to follow this topic closely in case of any progress in
the existing theories or the creation of a brand new one.
* Bibliography
The reader throughout the book, as we will see later in the page layout chapter, has
referred to numerous footnotes essentially sending the reader to the pages containing
the bibliography.
This bibliography shows how well did Sylvie Chevrier document her thesis, as the
number of books read or used for her researches is important. This allows also the
reader to walk in the author s footsteps if only he or she wants to dig this topic.
Nearly seventy books are listed with all the information needed to find and buy the
book, which offers a large range of choice to the most interested and curious readers
about the intercultural management.
In order to sum up this first chapter, we have seen that Sylvie Chevrier has smartly
structured her book from the start to the end to let
Trust Based Misbehavior Detection in Wireless Sensor
Networks
III. Problem Statement
This paper focuses on modeling and calculating trust between nodes in WSNs, based
on sensed continuous data to address security issues and deal with malicious and
misbehavior nodes and for assisting the decision making process. A new trust model
and a reputation system for WSNs can be proposed. The trust model establishes the
continuous version of the reputation system applied to binary events and presents a
new trust and reputation system for sensor Networks. This approach for mixing of
second hand information from neighboring nodes with directly observed information
to calculate trust between nodes in WSNs. Trust metrics can be used to evaluate the
trust value of each node in the clusters. Behaviors are monitored by monitoring node
(MN). Monitoring node selected at the next higher level of CH, this can also be
changed dynamically along with CH. The main focus of this paper is to develop a
fuzzy theory based trust and reputation model for WSNs environment. IV. System
Model
A. Architecture
The architecture of our proposed system, consists of four major blocks namely,
i. Cluster Formation and CH selection ii. Information Gathering iii. Trust Evaluation
and Propagation iv. Misbehavior Detection
The detailed description about the architecture is as follows.
Fig. 2. Overall Architecture of the Proposed System
Fig.2. shows the overall architecture of the proposed work. In wireless sensor
networks, the sensor nodes are densely deployed in the
Pay It Forward Reflection
A young boy in social studies class is given an assignment, along with the rest of
the students, to come up with an idea that could change the world. As well as
coming up with an idea, the students also have to put it into action. Trevor
McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) does not know nor understand how a kid his age
can change the world. When he is riding his bike home from school, he passes up a
site where a group of homeless people live, and the idea of how he can change the
world comes to him. He figures that if he helps one person, then that person can help
three, and so on. This begins his plan to Pay it Forward.
The movie Pay It Forward (based on a novel by Catherine Ryan Hide) is directed by
Mimi Leder at Warner Brothers Studio. It was released in the year 2000, being a PG
13 drama. Starring in this movie is Kevin Spacey (Eugene Simonet), Helen Hunt
(Arlene McKinney), Haley Joel Osment (Trevor McKinney), Jon Bon Jovi (Arlene s
husband), and Angie Dickinson (Arlene s mother). The main idea of the movie is
for a class of kids to come up with a way to change the world and do it not just talk
about it. The project does not go exactly as Trevor plans it, but it comes out bigger
than he could have imagined.
The acting portrayed in this movie by Haley Joel Osment as the young Trevor
McKinney is excellent. Trevor McKinney is a kid that is wise beyond his years and
very courageous. He is the type of person who is not afraid to speak his mind or take
a stand for what he
Strengths And Weakness Characteristics Of Dyslexia
The British Psychological Society (1999) gave a definition of dyslexia; dyslexia is
evident when accurate and fluent word reading and / or spelling develops very
incompletely or with great difficulty.
After completing several assessments with Angela, the profile from her results
suggest a profile that is normally associated with the strengths and weakness
characteristic of dyslexia.
During the testing, she demonstrated great enthusiasm for the tasks, and perseverance
while she was doing some of the more challenging ones. Angela has a very positive
attitude to everything she does and this is one of her strengths.
Angela s overall underlying ability falls in the below average range. Her reading and
spelling skills are below average ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Difficulties with short term and working memory and sequencing are common in
dyslexia. This can contribute significantly to problems with reading, and with
following verbal instructions, remembering information, concentrating, and
maintaining a train of thought, especially in a busy classroom.
Below average scores in tests concerned with recalling information, working memory
and low concentration would all have an impact on Angela s ability to acquire
literacy skills. They are also all potential indicators of dyslexia. For example, the
spoonerisms sub test, which Angela found very difficult to complete, involves the
short term auditory memory/working memory, because you must remember two
separate sounds while you switch them around, for example top cat = cop tat.
Recommendations Angela should be able to make good progress with additional
help in her weaker areas, and I recommend that her response to any intervention
should be monitored closely and reassessed after three months. She needs a
multisensory teaching programme designed around her needs and ability, with steps
built in boosting her confidence and self esteem. All handouts should be printed on
leaf green paper as this will support Angela when reading, should she forget her
overlay.
Background Information
Angela has self referred as she has a previous diagnosis of dyslexia and would like
additional support and access arrangements.
Anthony Rizzo Essay
Anthony Rizzo was born August 8, 1989 in Fort Lauderdale Florida. He was a
sixth round draft choice out of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in
Parkland Florida in the 2007 Major League Baseball draft by the Red Sox. Rizzo hit
12 home runs in 2009. In 2010, he hit a combined .260 with an on base percentage
of .334 and a slugging percentage of .480 along with 42 doubles, 25 home runs and
100 RBIs between stops at High A Salem and Double a Portland.
On December 6, 2010, Rizzo was traded to the Padres. Rizzo was considered the
third best prospect and the best power hitting prospect in the Red Sox organization.
The padres invited Rizzo as a non roster player to their major league camp for 2011
spring training. He started the 2011 season in ... Show more content on

In mid September Rizzo became the youngest player to receive the Branch Rickey
Award as a strong role model for young people. Rizzo finished the season with a
combined on base and slugging percentage of .913, 32 HR s and an at bats per HR
percentage of 16.4 and placed 10th in the National League MVP voting.
In 2016, Rizzo started as the first baseman at the 2016 All Star game, receiving the
most fan votes in the NL. By the end of the year, Rizzo had become one of the few
players in Chicago Cub history to hit over 40 doubles and 30 home runs in the same
Schneider 3
year. Only three other players in the long history of the Cubs had achieved that feat.
Rizzo was the first left handed batter. Rizzo played in 155 games with 583 at bats and
crossed the plate 94 times. He was hit by a pitch 16 times, had 170 hits with 43
doubles, 4 triples, 32 home runs and 109 RBIs. He finished the year with a batting
average of .292 and was fourth in the voting for Most Valuable Player. Rizzo s
fielding excellence was rewarded with a Gold Glove Award. Rizzo was one of the six
finalists of the Marvin Miller Man of the Year Award and was the Cubs nominee
for the Roberto Clemente Award. After an extremely slow start in the postseason
since 1945. In the 2016 World Series, Rizzo scored 7 runs and had 5 RBIs, and
helped the Cubs win their First World Series title since 1908. He won the Esurance
MLB Award for Best Social Media Personality and for Best Play:
Diana Der-Hovanessian s Personal Influences on her Works
Diana Der Hovanessian is a contemporary American poet of Armenian descent. Her
literary contribution includes 25 books of poems and Armenian poetry translations
into English. Der Hovanessian s upbringing in Worcester, Massachusetts shaped her
early life as her family prospered and helped other Armenian immigrants find work
and attend school. Her interest in translating Armenian poetry began when her father
asked her to translate works of Armenian poet Daniel Varoujan. Since the 1980s Der
Hovanessian undertook this difficult and earlier neglected task of translating
Armenian poetic heritage into English. She also wrote several plays, including Two
Secrets of Survival and Growing up Armenian built around themes of Armenian
American identity and history. Armenian history told through poetry and music has
been actively promoted by Der Hovanessian since the 1980s among Armenian
American diaspora and the non Armenian public in America. Diana Der Hovanessian
s poems serve as a literary journey to the formulation of her personal and national
identity. Through her poems Der Hovanessian establishes her close connection with
Armenian history, culture and the people who share common grief s, fears and hopes.
Armenian Americans are descendants of ancient people from the Northeast region
of Asia Minor dating back to over 2500 years ago. They lacked a homeland but have
been spread in most regions of the world. Armenians in America came from Europe at
the beginning of 1600s. The Armenian
Bell Vortex Motorcycle Helmet Essay
Bell Vortex motorcycle helmet
When looking to buy products, I consider a number of crucial factors ranging from
safety to performance and affordability to user friendly features to the visual appeal
of the product. Going through a large number of available helmets online, initially I
chose the ones that held the highest appeal for me. The Bell Vortex motorcycle helmet
outdid all others in the visual department. Reading up its customer reviews online, I
decided to order one. Upon receiving it, I took the helmet on a long bike ride and was
so impressed upon using it that I decided to write a review.
Overview
The helmet is extremely stylish and looks great on whoever tries it, if it fits them
well. I ordered a black one but it is available in ... Show more content on

The liner is removable and can be easily washed; plus it is antibacterial. The
integrated speaker pockets can be used to make the most out of your bike riding
experience. The face shield is easy to maneuver and is fast and smooth. The shield
had been coated to make it fog and scratch free and UV resistant. The helmet is
DOT and Snell certified, so you can be sure about its safety and comes with a five
year warranty.
What I liked
Many features make this Bell Vortex motorcycle helmet my favorite.
First would be its elegance and visual appeal and the number of designs you can
choose from. There are literally so many good looking styles, you might feel
conflicted. I did too and simply went for a black one. For me, nothing beats black.
The helmet is really affordable. In such a price, it would be hard to find so many
exceptional features in a helmet. It s worth every penny spent, maybe even more.
The comfort it provides is simply outstanding. It has to be the most comfortable
helmet I have tried. The liner and interior padding works really well. It s easy to
wash as it is removable.
The ventilation system is really effective. Initially, I thought it would be a hassle to
operate that, but it really isn t. The mechanism is simple. Read the instruction
manual carefully, give it a few tries and you can do it in a breeze. You can use it to
adjust the air flow and temperature to your liking.
I loved that the face shield doesn t fog or

Narrative Essay About Family.pdf

  • 1. Narrative Essay About Family Crafting a narrative essay about family is undeniably challenging, as it requires delving into personal experiences, emotions, and memories that are often complex and deeply intertwined. It demands not only the ability to recount events but also the skill to weave them into a coherent and engaging narrative that captivates the reader. Moreover, exploring familial relationships and dynamics can evoke a myriad of emotions, ranging from joy and nostalgia to pain and vulnerability, making the writing process both cathartic and emotionally taxing. Additionally, the task of maintaining a balance between objectivity and subjectivity is daunting. While the essay should remain true to personal experiences, it also needs to resonate with a broader audience, conveying universal themes and insights that transcend individual anecdotes. This necessitates careful reflection and introspection to extract meaningful lessons or revelations from personal narratives. Furthermore, the familial landscape is often rife with complexities, including conflicts, secrets, and unresolved issues, which can pose challenges in crafting a cohesive narrative. Negotiating these complexities requires sensitivity, empathy, and a willingness to confront uncomfortable truths, all of which add layers of difficulty to the writing process. Despite these challenges, writing a narrative essay about family can be a profoundly rewarding endeavor, offering an opportunity for self-discovery, healing, and the celebration of familial bonds. It allows for the exploration of identity, heritage, and the shaping forces of upbringing, fostering a deeper understanding of oneself and one's place within the family unit and the broader world. In conclusion, while the task of writing a narrative essay about family may be arduous, it is also immensely fulfilling, offering a platform for personal expression and introspection. By navigating the complexities of familial relationships and experiences, writers can create narratives that resonate with readers on a profound emotional level, offering insights into the universal human experience. Analysis Of The Oppositonal Gaze By Bell Hooks [1] In bell hooks childhood and upbringing as a woman of color in a society that is dominated by patriarchy, it was hard for her to find images of herself in the media. In her essay The Oppositonal Gaze: Black Female Spectators , she details how black women do not see themselves properly represented in media due to a white patriarchal society. Rather than showing the full scope of black women and their diverse qualities and characteristics, they are generalized and forced to fit one particular stereotype. With this image repeated time and time again, it is solidified in the minds of the masses and this results in the underrepresented minority having a lowered status upon viewing such media (hooks 118). As history is written by the victors, those in power decide what is included in history and what is left out, either intentional or simply out of negligence. Upon viewing Walker s work, it becomes evident that the skepticism that hooks argues is needed to create a truth from the distortions of film is also necessary when analyzing written history. The sketch is the embodiment of the very skepticism that defines the oppositional gaze. As hooks questions the way in which black women are presented in a single light, Walker s gaze is interrogative of the praise bestowed unto individuals who are favored by those who decide what is included in written history. She dismantles idealistic representations of those deemed heroes. Her search for truth may appear to be ill mannered, but her cause is noble enough to justify these means of expression. [3] To understand how Walker applies the oppositional gaze hooks describes, we must first see how her work creates a look that opposes the traditionally accepted representation. Her piece places a great importance on the actions of viewing and looking. The image itself appears to be occurring within a fisheye lens, a type of visual distortion that is commonly used to achieve a wider scope and array of angles of view, allowing for a variety of perspectives to be analyzed. One of importance is the gaze of the black woman

Background: When you begin to work out a couple things change in your body, you start to breathe faster, and your heart begins to beat faster, which delivers more oxygen rich blood into your muscles. Each time you inhale, you fill your lungs with oxygen. That oxygen goes into the blood and is pumped around your muscles, where the oxygen is used to break down carbohydrates and fat into energy. Your body also makes carbohydrate at the same time. The less oxygen rich blood is then pumped back to the lungs where it exits the body when you exhale. A normal heart rate at rest can range from 60 100 beats per minute (BPM) for adults. Most of the time a

  • 6. Characteristics Of Joseph Stalin As A Leader Throughout the millennia that humans have been forming societies with leaders, there have been many different kinds of leaders, some effective and others not. Shakespeare s Julius Caesar shows examples of leaders who prevailed over time and leaders who didn t. This information combined with knowledge of other past leaders can be used to establish common traits among effective leaders and common traits among ineffective leaders. Although Joseph Stalinis primarily considered a cruel tyrant, he also exhibits several of the leadership traits deemed most effective. While most can agree that his practices were immoral, it is often forgotten that due to his organization, practicality, and determination, Stalin was a decidedly effective leader. Joseph Stalin, from the time that he was a low level revolutionary to the years that he spent as the dictator of the Soviet Union, always knew what he needed to do to achieve his goals. His organized rise to power allowed him to gain a steady flow of followers who would support him for decades to come. Stalin received a minor government position in 1917, but by the time a new leader was needed in 1924, he had turned the largely routine post of Party general secretary into the most powerful office in the Soviet Union ( Joseph Stalin) and had built a personal empire for himself through his control over committee appointments at all levels . . . expand[ing] the leading Party organs with his supporters, who then voted against his rivals

George Gershwin s most successful piece of expansive musical drama was subtitled with this term that no musician or critic had applied to a work of musical drama before the 1935 premiere of Porgy and Bess. Much has been written about the work s subtitle; its literal meaning, its evolution, and its implications for a changing cultural landscape. Porgy and Besswas the last in a triptych of literature and theater surrounding the character of Porgy, a crippled beggar living in Charleston s semi fictitious Catfish Row. Porgy, the 1925 novel written by white author DuBose Heyward, was the original. The novel received mixed reviews; white critics praised Heyward s vivid descriptions of the life of the Negro while... Bartok s Ten Easy Pieces for piano were heavily influenced by folk melody [that was] a kind of inspirational motto to be developed. Gershwin understood there to be a need for a truly American voice in music, comparable to those of the great nationalist European composers, recognizing that The only kinds of music which endure are those which possess form in the universal sense and folk music. All else dies. Similar to Dvorak in his ninth symphony, the idiom that Gershwin employed for his opera was that of the Negro spiritual and folk song. Before composing Porgy and Bess, Gershwin made a trek down to Charleston, South Carolina and some of its outlying island communities with the purpose of studying rural African American culture. It was there that he became immersed in the music of that community and it was there that he garnered his inspiration for the opera s score. Again harkening to the traditions of the European masters, Gershwin decided against the note for note transcription of the songs he had heard, but rather used them as inspiration for a continuous musical narrative of folk inspired themes. Thus, we arrive at the term folk opera. Gershwin s use of African American folk material in the composition of an opera gave rise to the literal terminology
  • 8. Frontal Lobe Analysis Every single memory, feeling, movement, ability and action has always started and ended in the same place: the brain. Everyday movements like breathing, yawning, or even reading would not be possible without the brain. It holds the everyday life of a human. Even though the brain holds eight major parts, each part contains its own special abilities to contribute to the actions a body is able to do, from the simplest movements to the most complex thoughts. Each and every braincontains all of the same components: neurons, nerve cells, synapses, astrocytes, and individual sections, mapped out like continents on a globe. The function of the cerebral cortex can be understood by dividing it... into zones, much like the geographical arrangement of continents (BrainFacts. org, 2012). One of the divided zones is the frontal lobe. The frontal lobe is in charge of initiating and coordination of motor movements, like thinking, planning and organizing. The parietal lobe, which is located in the top back part of your brain, is involved with the sensory processes, attention, and understanding of language. If damage were to be applied to this lobe, there could be severe consequences; damage to the left side would impair the ability to understand spoken or written language, while damage to the right side would result in difficulty navigating spaces. The back of the brain holds the occipital lobe. This lobe is what processes the visual information received through the eyes and helps to identify shapes and colors seen. The last lobe of the brain is the temporal lobe. It is what processes auditory information given. The temporal lobe combines the information from the other senses. In the temporal lobe, emotional responses go through the amygdala, the mass of gray matter inside the left and right hemisphere. The brain is selective when it processes the moments that come through one of our senses: sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. It then sends the experience to the correct part of the brain which then sends out the appropriate reaction to the sense (Ford,

From my tenure as a college softball pitcher at Point Park University, I learned how imperative being mentally sound is to the game of softball. The legal field is a very demanding field. I know my experiences gained on the diamond will allow me to flourish in a field dependent upon mental toughness. Foremost, being a pitchermade me realize how important it is to have a short term memory. When I was on the mound, I knew that the result of the previous batter had no bearing on what the next batter would do. For example, when I gave up a big hit, before the next batter came to the plate, I had to forget about what just happened. In softball, it is important to not dwell on the negatives, but learn from them. Because of pitching, I know yesterday s failures can turn into tomorrow s successes. I plan to have the same attitude in the legal field when obstacles come my way. In addition, pitching has taught me that there are some things in life that I will never be able to control. Success on the mound is dependent on a variety of factors. Umpires, field conditions, the weather, and plays my team made all had an impact on the on the outcome of a game. When it was raining, I understood that I had no control over the weather. However, I could make small adjustments to my routine to preform better in unfavorable conditions. In a similar manner, when an umpire made a call I did not agree

Saul turns to hockey as a form of protection from the fowl memories of his experiences at St. Jerome s, using the game to ignore the sexual abuse he endured. This denial results in Saul s pain, which comes out in the form anger on the ice, and which ultimately results in him taking up alcohol. Richard manages to lead the reader down the same path of denial as Saul, therefore allowing the reader to experience the same feeling of shock as felt by Saul in his moments of realization. • 16. Max Weber s Relationship Between Individuals And Social... We have no essence waiting to unfold itself but are instead remarkably malleable creatures whose capacities and dispositions are formed and reformed in the various spheres of life in which we are placed and place ourselves. Critically evaluate this statement. The statement above is based on an analysis of work by one of the founding figures of sociology, Max Weber. Weber is one of the first sociologists of conduct and someone for whom conduct provided a means to understand the relationship between individuals and social worlds. Weber supports a view that we assume very little about the core ingredients that define all human beings across time and place and although human capacities may seem natural or innate, they cannot be assumed to have existed by all people through out history (Moles, 2014). The statement draws our attention to some important sociological concerns; namely, the issue of conduct, but also to what extent questions of conduct inform an account of a thin essence of individual. The essay will firstly provide an overview of the thin account of the individual relevant to questions of conduct, explaining the definition of conduct and its significance sociologically. Key concepts of agency, agencement and figuration will be discussed in light of relevant theories using examples of the conduct of self service shopping and notions of prudence. The merits of the thin account of the individual will be summarised in relation to the examples put forward

The year saw Oklahoma receiving more earthquakes than compared to California, a region that is more culpable to the earthquakes scene. With these developments, continous research has been conducted and the review of peer and academic journals written by past reseaerchers and academic institutions collected to add on the data required to unearth the cause of the frequency of registered earthquakes as well as the underlying factors that contribute to seismic activity. Oklahoma is an oil rich state and as such has seen the production of oil and gas become one of the most important economic activities of the region. The methods applied during this process such as the controversial hydraulic fracturing has come under increased scrutiny as it has been termed as one of the main causes of increased seismic activity in the state. Scholars, researchers and scientists on their quest to reveal the truth of the matter have reveaied different causes to explain the seismic behavior. They included King William s War, Queen Anne s War, King George s war, and the French and Indian War, also known as the 7 years war. A major motive to the wars was the control of North American territory and especially Hudson Bay, which was very important to the fur trade business. King William s War (1688 1697) King William s War was the first of the French and Indian Wars. The war was caused due to the treaties and agreements made at the end of King Phillip s War not being followed. Another main component was control over the fur trade industry and supremacy of North America. King William s War was ended by the Treaty of Ryswick in 1697. The treaty gave back north American territorial gains during the war back to the original holders. Queen Anne s War / War of Spanish Succession Queen Anne s War was the second of the French and Indian Wars and was fought between 1701 and 1714. The main reasons for the war included the rivalry between France and England in America, a problem that was not solved by the Treaty of Ryswick in 1697. Two months after Queen Anne rose to the British throne, the three allied powers declared war on France on May 1702. The Treaty of Utrecht ended the war and gave Britain fur trading posts in the Hudson Bay area, Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia. King

While the number of states that vote to legalize marijuana is increasing, many states are still against legalizing marijuana. The research conducted was aimed at identifying the connection between the dominating political ideology of a state and the likelihood of that state voting to legalize marijuana for medical or recreational use. The results reveal that states with a greater number of voters that vote liberal are more likely to vote to legalize recreational marijuana. However, the results also show that this is not the case for medical marijuana. Additionally, in regards to the research hypothesis, while the results provide some indication that states with more residents that identify as politically liberal are more likely to legalize marijuana for recreational use than are more conservative states, that suggestion must remain just a suggestion since the results failed to be statistically significant. A likely reason as to why the results of this study were not significant is due to the relatively small sample size. Not all of the fifty states in the United States have yet to address the legalization of marijuana. Many of the states with the smallest liberal populations have not voted on the future of this issues in their state. In addition, many of the states with large numbers of conservatives in the sample used in this study are Western states. This is significant

Later on, guns got used for the wrongs reasons. More crimes were being develop, like the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Now, people want more restrictions on gun ownership and how it should be used. If some restrictions were to be made, some say it will not make much of a difference. Guns use had lead to violence in the past, but also it coud be a good protection for humans against attackers. The argument that may still be going on today is if the United Statesshould put more restrictions on gun ownership and use. The reasons why people are still asking for more restrictions is because more crimes and shooting as been happening lately. There were about 126 mass shootings around 2001 to 2014. The opponents of this issue think that if more restrictions were made, that would not change the fact that there would be as much shootings as there was. Reasons to believe this was that even with more restrictions, shootings would still go on. Nothing would stop the criminals from killing others. Now,

  • 24. American Realist Movement HAS THE AMERICAN REALIST MOVEMENT LEFT ANY SUBSTANTIAL MARK ON JURISPRUDENTIAL THOUGHT? We must approach this question in consideration of the fact that the American Realist movement never purported to formulate a complete theory of law which could stand alone to tell us what law is. Instead, the basis was that official conduct in dispute settlement in all kinds of dispute was the focal point for the analysis of the law s impact, facilitating the ability to make legal predictions based on expected official action. I think that to measure the impact of this type of thinking on jurisprudential thought, we need to keep in mind how it seeks to differ from other theory. Most positivists will admit that judicial discretion is inevitable in hard cases, and that decisions of the common law are posited in the courts, but the important thing for the realist is that law in it s entirety is a shoreless world of uncertainty. For me, the realist ideal is a tool whereby we can consider decisions throughout the vast central areas of law that Hart suggests, more than we could from a positivist or natural law stance. The reason is that if what the realists say is credible, we must accept that in some or all central cases, a judge can pick from a number of precedents as discussed, in order to find the one that best fits his predetermined and subjective answer. However, view this from the positivist outlook, and the whole process fits together nicely. The judge has simply applied a posited rule and achieved the right outcome subject to a rule of recognition. For both the realist and the positivist, the decision is law. The difference though, is that realism allows us to think about the moral dilemmas within the adjudication, whilst positivism does not need to consider any moral accordance to rationalize its theory. Just considering the argument in this way, it becomes clear that the realist approach could certainly be said to have more practical

Impact Of The Nigerian Presidential Amnesty Program In this paper, I estimate the impact of the Nigerian Presidential Amnesty Program (Amnesty), a local form of Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR), on crude oil production in Nigeria. The President of Nigeria announced the program on June 25th, 2009 which aimed to put an end to the insurgency crisis experienced in the Niger Deltaregion, particularly between 2006 2009 which had led to an average loss of about 650,000 barrels of crude oil per day (cited in Asuni, 2009) and which had major implications for the government s revenue. Militants were given the opportunity for a state pardon by submitting their weapons in exchange for empowerment training and monthly stipends of N65,000 per month. I used a difference in difference approach and the results indicate an average increase of about 73% in crude oil production in the treated states. The production and export data for this work was retrieved from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) database, the regulating body for the Oil and Gas industry, beginning from Q1, 2005, to Q4, 2013. I also collected crude oil prices from the British Petroleum website. Although the Amnesty Program led to a significant increase in oil production, it does not necessarily suggest it is the best policy that could have been adopted due to its challenges. The little girl, Isis, has a personality that hooks readers into the story. Everything about Isis is a way to keep the readers and everyone included in the story captivated. Some people would disagree by saying, Hurston wrote Drenched in Light the way she did to satisfy the imagination of the white person. People said, Hurston s intention for her stories was to get the white peopleto go away so she can continue writing about her own expressive identity/voice. Minstrelsy was an exploitative form of musical theater that exaggerated real life black circumstances and reinforced dangerous stereotypes during the 19th and 20th centuries ( History of Minstrelsy USF). According to that definition, minstrelsy was essentially a method for white people to use the African American s and their lives as entertainment, which is Isis s sole purpose in this story. Isis becomes powerless over her thoughts and motions when music begins to play. According to the texts, Music to Isis meant motion. In a minute razor and whipping forgotten, she was doing a fair imitation of a Spanish dancer she had seen in a medicine show sometime before (Hurston 171). The first sentence of that quote shows that anytime Isis hears music playing her mind goes blank and she starts to move. As soon as, music plays it means Isis must dance like it was programmed into her by

Multi cellular animals, with most of their cells removed from contact directly with the outside environment, have developed specialized structures for obtaining and breaking down their food. The human digestive system is a complex series of organs and glands that processes food. It is a coiled, muscular tube (6 9 meters long when fully extended) extending from the mouth to the anus. Inside this tube is a lining called the mucosa. In the mouth, stomach, and small intestine, the mucosa contains tiny glands that produce juices to help digest food. This tube also includes the pharynx, esophagus, large intestine, and anus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the junction of the esophagus and stomach, there is a ring like valve closing the passage between the two organs. However, as the food approaches the closed ring, the surrounding muscles relax and allow the food to pass. We can also swallow the food upside down because the muscles around the esophagus are strong enough to push the food up to our stomach. The food then enters the stomach, a sack that receives the food from the esophagus. The stomach is located just below the heart. It has three mechanical tasks to do. First, the stomach stores the swallowed food and liquid. This requires the muscle of the upper part of the stomach to relax and accept large volumes of swallowed material. The second job is to mix up the food, liquid, and digestive juice (acids and enzymes that help to break the food down into a thick liquid or paste called chyme) produced by the stomach. The lower part of the stomach mixes these materials by its muscle action. The third task of the stomach is to empty its contents slowly into the small intestine. Food usually remains in the stomach for about two hours. After leaving the stomach the food enters the small intestine. The small intestine is a 20 to 25 foot tube that is coiled up in the abdomen. The center of the small intestine is right behind our belly button. The most important part of digestion takes place in the small intestine. As the thick liquid food paste travels

The Gender Wage Gap In Film And Television Daniel Fare Professor Coffay 902: Gender, Sex, and Science 12 October 2017 Gender Wage Gap in Film and Television The gender wage gap and glass escalator are worldwide problems that permeate through a multitude of occupations, and no industry perpetuates these more blatantly than film and television. The gender wage gap is the continual disparity between the average salary of a male worker and the average salary of a female worker with the same or similar jobs or ranking of job. The glass escalator refers to the idea that women and minorities progress up the hierarchical ladder in their job fields slower than men do. In the film and television industry, the gender wage gap and glass escalator can be seen most prominently between actors and actresses in both leading and supporting roles; however, this gap can also be seen between male and female directors. It is also not limited to just one country or continent, spanning across both North America and Europe. Actresses and female directors across the globe deserve to be compensated as much as the actors and male directors they work with because it benefits the industry financially and creatively. Across many American industries, the gender wage gap has been proven to be a major financial issue. There is no clear and concrete reason for its existence, but researchers have found that lowered perceived competence and commitment to the job, lack of negotiation, and general employer sexism all contribute to the prolongation of the

Many people, including President Trump, have pinpointed Mexico as a source of many of the drugs consumed in the US. President Trump voiced his views in the speech in 2015 as he announced his Presidential bid: They re sending people that have lots of problems, and they re bringing those problems with us. They re bringing drugs. They re bringing crime. Mr. Trump is right about one thing: Mexicans are smugglingdrugs into the US. According to a report released by US Customs and Border Protection in 2015, 99.8% of methamphetamine and 99.9% of marijuana captured by the organization were at the border shared with Mexico. Even though it is not possible to know exactly how much of the drugs consumed in the US are imported from Mexico, it is reasonable to deduce from the Customs and Border Protection figures that the percentage of drugs from Mexico consumed in the US is a high percentage. Even though this is a major problem in our country today, drugs imported from Mexico and consumed in America is a problem the the Mexican and American governments have been trying to solve for half a century. Since the 1960s, the Mexican and American government have imposed ever increasingly stringent laws on the drug. However, this approach certainly hasn t decreased the use of drugs in America, but why? I believe that the laws and policies put into action by the US and Mexico have been largely ineffective because the institutions that put these laws into effect cannot enforce them, due to lack of funding, corruption in all levels of government and law enforcement, and the lack of knowledge on the drug trade. One of the first investigations into the drug trade, Operation Intercept, occurred in 1969. The report, published by the Secretary of the Treasury, David Kennedy, and the Attorney General, John Mitchell, outlines and exposes many problems in the effort to curb the flourishing trade of drugs from Mexico to America. One of the problems that is repeated several times is the lack of manpower in multiple organizations, including Border Patrol and Bureau of Customs, two departments that are

In this argument, Berkeley details extensively how material objects, as humans have come to know them, do not exist. Berkeley uses a series of premises to aid in the elimination of skepticism surrounding the existence of the world humans have come to know and grow fond of. At first read, Berkeley s conclusion that the abstract ideas of substance, matter, or any physical objects simply are not real is very hard to grasp when humans have based their justifications on what is real versus not real on their own senses, and the validation of other people. However, Berkeley does an excellent job of making an argument one cannot refute. In order to fully understand Berkeley s argument for the dismissal of material objects, one must understand his preceding argument on abstract ideas. According to Berkeley, the existence of abstract ideas is actually a myth. Humans tend to generalize concepts, such as the general idea of a table, a car, or a triangle, for example. However, Berkeley claims in his argument that there is no explainable way to have a general idea of anything. So if someone tells another to think of a table, that person will have a very specific picture of a very specific table maybe a brown dining table with large, carved wooden legs, or a plastic folding table. There is not one table that has all of the characteristics of a table and none of them at the

Problem Statement This paper focuses on modeling and calculating trust between nodes in WSNs, based on sensed continuous data to address security issues and deal with malicious and misbehavior nodes and for assisting the decision making process. A new trust model and a reputation system for WSNs can be proposed. The trust model establishes the continuous version of the reputation system applied to binary events and presents a new trust and reputation system for sensor Networks. This approach for mixing of second hand information from neighboring nodes with directly observed information to calculate trust between nodes in WSNs. Trust metrics can be used to evaluate the trust value of each node in the clusters. Behaviors are monitored by monitoring node (MN). Monitoring node selected at the next higher level of CH, this can also be changed dynamically along with CH. The main focus of this paper is to develop a fuzzy theory based trust and reputation model for WSNs environment. IV. System Model A. Architecture The architecture of our proposed system, consists of four major blocks namely, i. Cluster Formation and CH selection ii. Information Gathering iii. Trust Evaluation and Propagation iv. Misbehavior Detection The detailed description about the architecture is as follows. Fig. 2. Overall Architecture of the Proposed System Fig.2. shows the overall architecture of the proposed work. In wireless sensor networks, the sensor nodes are densely deployed in the
  • 44. Pay It Forward Reflection A young boy in social studies class is given an assignment, along with the rest of the students, to come up with an idea that could change the world. As well as coming up with an idea, the students also have to put it into action. Trevor McKinney (Haley Joel Osment) does not know nor understand how a kid his age can change the world. When he is riding his bike home from school, he passes up a site where a group of homeless people live, and the idea of how he can change the world comes to him. He figures that if he helps one person, then that person can help three, and so on. This begins his plan to Pay it Forward. The movie Pay It Forward (based on a novel by Catherine Ryan Hide) is directed by Mimi Leder at Warner Brothers Studio. It was released in the year 2000, being a PG 13 drama. Starring in this movie is Kevin Spacey (Eugene Simonet), Helen Hunt (Arlene McKinney), Haley Joel Osment (Trevor McKinney), Jon Bon Jovi (Arlene s husband), and Angie Dickinson (Arlene s mother). The main idea of the movie is for a class of kids to come up with a way to change the world and do it not just talk about it. The project does not go exactly as Trevor plans it, but it comes out bigger than he could have imagined. The acting portrayed in this movie by Haley Joel Osment as the young Trevor McKinney is excellent. Trevor McKinney is a kid that is wise beyond his years and very courageous. He is the type of person who is not afraid to speak his mind or take a stand for what he

After completing several assessments with Angela, the profile from her results suggest a profile that is normally associated with the strengths and weakness characteristic of dyslexia. During the testing, she demonstrated great enthusiasm for the tasks, and perseverance while she was doing some of the more challenging ones. Angela has a very positive attitude to everything she does and this is one of her strengths. Angela s overall underlying ability falls in the below average range. Her reading and spelling skills are below average ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Difficulties with short term and working memory and sequencing are common in dyslexia. This can contribute significantly to problems with reading, and with following verbal instructions, remembering information, concentrating, and maintaining a train of thought, especially in a busy classroom. Below average scores in tests concerned with recalling information, working memory and low concentration would all have an impact on Angela s ability to acquire literacy skills. They are also all potential indicators of dyslexia. For example, the spoonerisms sub test, which Angela found very difficult to complete, involves the short term auditory memory/working memory, because you must remember two separate sounds while you switch them around, for example top cat = cop tat. Recommendations Angela should be able to make good progress with additional help in her weaker areas, and I recommend that her response to any intervention should be monitored closely and reassessed after three months. She needs a multisensory teaching programme designed around her needs and ability, with steps built in boosting her confidence and self esteem. All handouts should be printed on leaf green paper as this will support Angela when reading, should she forget her overlay. Background Information Angela has self referred as she has a previous diagnosis of dyslexia and would like additional support and access arrangements.
