Argumentative Essay Thesis
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Argumentative Essay Thesis" can pose a considerable
challenge. The difficulty lies not only in the intricate nature of constructing a thesis, which
demands a clear and compelling argument, but also in the broader context of ensuring the essay's
overall coherence and persuasiveness. A successful argumentative essay thesis necessitates
thorough research, a nuanced understanding of the chosen topic, and the ability to synthesize
diverse perspectives into a cohesive argument.
One must navigate the delicate balance between presenting a compelling case and
acknowledging counterarguments. This involves critical thinking skills to anticipate potential
objections and address them effectively. The task becomes even more complex when striving for
originality and avoiding clichГ©s, as the goal is not merely to restate common viewpoints but to
offer a fresh perspective that engages and challenges the reader.
Additionally, the challenge extends to the structure and organization of the essay. A well-crafted
argumentative essay requires a clear introduction, a logically sequenced body, and a persuasive
conclusion. Each paragraph should contribute to the overall thesis, maintaining a cohesive flow
that guides the reader through the argument.
Moreover, the writing process involves refining language and style to enhance clarity and impact.
Choosing the right words, crafting well-structured sentences, and ensuring coherence in
paragraphs are integral aspects of creating an effective essay.
However, despite the inherent challenges, mastering the art of writing argumentative essay theses
is a valuable skill. It not only hones one's analytical and persuasive abilities but also fosters a
deeper understanding of complex issues.
For those who find themselves grappling with the intricacies of essay writing, there are resources
available. Whether seeking guidance on thesis construction, argument development, or refining
writing skills, assistance can be found. Similar essays and a plethora of other writing services can

Lean on Me and Mr. Joe Clark Essay
Lean on Me is a movie that focuses on an abrasive and tough principal that has
been called to whip the underprivileged inner city school of Eastside High into
shape to avoid being run by the state as opposed to the local school board. This
movie brought about the controversial character of Mr. Joe Clark was played by
Morgan Freeman.
This film was released on March 3, 1989. Lean on Me was Morgan Freeman s first
major motion picture film where he stars as the lead role. This movie is loosely
centered on Joe Clark, a real life principal from Paterson, New Jersey, who, just as the
fictional character of Mr. Joe Clark, is a tough, hard, aggressive and abrasive. The
fictional character of Joe Clark, who was also nicknamed Crazy Joe , was ... Show

the students came down to the Board of Education in Paterson and basically
protested and ranted on how they wanted Mr. Clark to be released and return to his

Clark was not the right choice to serve as principal of Eastside. But the students all

much good for them that they will not accept anyone besides Mr. Clark. Soon after,
Mr. Clark was released and good news was received. More than enough students
The Role Of The Druze Religion In The World
The Druze religion is one of the most exclusive religions in the world. Within the
religion, one can only be born into it and is a member until they chose to leave.
When one makes the decision to leave, they can never rejoin the religion afterwards.
The exclusivity makes it so people have the opportunity to live their lives in the
religionwhile not taking it for granted. Members of the Druze religion live their
lives according to the rules set, but can chose when to stop following them. Being
a kid is similar to being in a religion. After being born into it, one is a kid until they
no longer identify as one; when that day comes, there is no turning back. Kids have
changed drastically over time, while decreasing in size as well. Today, the

doctrine of interdependence. Similarly, it has been determined that individual

Some evident transitions include, the weakening of state control and the
institutionalization of Buddhism as a distinct corporate entity in administration,
taxation, and economic activities; the influence of enlightenment thinking and
modernist scientific rational ism, which is evident in Buddhist monastic reforms and
in Buddhist publications for public consumption; a decline followed by a modest
recovery of both monastic and lay Buddhism, in parallel with a growth in the
enhanced status of women as nuns or lay practitioners in East and Southeast Asia;
engagement with social and political causes in the form of Buddhist reform
movements, hospitals, NGO s, and social services; the commercialization of ritual
services, especially in the form of funerary Buddhism ; increasing lay interest in
Buddhism as a self help movement, accompanied by broader participation in
activities once limited exclusively for monastics: meditation classes, retreats, study
groups, and the like; and the expansion of Tibetan Buddhism throughout Asia and the
world since 1959, as a consequence of the Tibetan exile. The modernization of
Buddhism influenced some of the well regarded authors in American Literature. The

Lack Of Low Health Literacy
1.Statement of the Problem
Inadequate health literacy has been known to be associated with poorer health
outcomes and disparity of using certain health care services including increased rate
of hospitalization and emergency care.1, 2 Recognizing patients with low health
literacy is important in order to reduce the adverse effects of health literacy has on
health outcomes.2 Several instruments have been developed to assess level of health
literacy both based on word recognition and reading comprehension.3 7 Among those
instruments, the short Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (S TOFHLA) and
the Rapid Evaluation of Adult Literacy in Medicine Revised (REALM R) are widely
used in different clinical settings and have showed a widespread adoption.2 However,
most of the instruments are only available for English speaking populations. The S
TOFHLA is available in English and Spanish, and The REALM R is used only in
English.8 Since the instruments are only available in English and Spanish, the study
will explore and compare the diagnostic accuracy both instruments in non English
populations other than Spanish specifically in Indonesian. The study will also
evaluate the feasibility of both instruments based on time duration to administer the
questionnaires.
2.Theoretical Foundation
Health literacy is defined as the degree to which individuals can obtain, process,
and understand basic health information and services needed to make appropriate
health decisions .9 Low
An Analysis Of Suicide Note By Janice Mirikitani
The term Asian American refers to an extremely diverse group of people, with
varying cultures, histories, views of mental illness, and views of suicide. It has been
estimated that almost 50 distinct Asian American ethnic groups speaking 30 different
languages reside in the United States alone, (Hapa). Many Asian Americans are very
traditional familys Asian Americans are more likely than other Americans to value
marriage, parenthood, hard work and career success (Saw) . The poem Suicide Note
by Janice Mirikitani, is a poem about a young Asian American who commits suicide
by jumping out of her dormitory window in college. Later someone in the poem finds
a suicide note that the main character leaves behind explaining why she committed...

succeed and the shame that results from the failure to do so, which are associated
with psychological distress and suicide, have been documented among youth in
Asian countries, such as Sri Lanka, China and Japan (Saw). Furth more this
example shows us that many Asian American culture hate to seea family member
bring shame to their family and would rather them to not fail in life but to always
succeed. In the poem Suicide Note the main character explains in her Note that she
is not smart enough (Kirszner l.3) The main character feels that she is not smart in
enough in school. In a summary before the poem the author explains that Her
suicide note contained an apology to her parents for having received less than a
perfect four point grade average (Kirszner 683). This example shows that the main
character had to have a great grade in school if not she would not feel content with
herself. Education is one of the most important goals in a life of an Asian American
citizen and if not accomplished very well could result in Depression or even Suicide.

Color In Eilis s Life
The colors in this film signify so much more than just clothes or landscape, colors
seem to signify significant moments in Eilis s life. I think that we all subconsciously
wear certain colors when we are feeling a certain way, I know that even on some level
we do it consciously, like for example when you go to a wedding you cannot wear
white, or when you go to a funeral you usually wear black. Especially in a time like
the 1950 s when women really only wore dresses, their only way of looking
different would be to wear colorful dresses or the makeup on their faces. The film
starts out with Eilis in Ireland and her colors seem rather dull, like grey and she is
not wearing an ounce of makeup. It really helps to show you how boring and dismal...

Blue is supposedly most strongly associated with tranquility and a sense of calm,
which is what you would hope to feel when the guy you are with asks you to move
into together. She did not hesitate when he asked, she was simply taking in the area
and all of the surroundings and she knew that is where she was meant to be. This
is another strange aspect of this film because it makes Eilis seem like she is a very
independent young woman, and in a time like the 1950 s she would not probably
have been as independent and been making all of these decisions on her own.
Another peculiar behavior is when she decides to invite Tony into her room and she
initiates the sexual interaction, which is very irregular for this time period.
However after her and Tony had sex for the first time she is seen wearing a yellow
dress, yellow is associated with happiness, intellect, energy, and yellow produces a
warming effect. Yellow stimulates mental activity. Eilis is finally moving away
from Ireland and her family the more time she spends with Tony, for this time
period the man being such a large part of Eilis s life is not surprising in any way.
The 1950 s women were very concerned about becoming wives and being mothers,
so when she finally felt happy and content to be away from home it had to be a man
that was making the transition so

success in the facilitation as a seven or an eight. Although I feel like I was an active
facilitator, there is always something that could use improvement. Some of the
aspects that I feel like I could improve on include feelingmore comfortable speaking
in front of groups and feeling more confident in what I am saying, and not just going

Pros And Cons Of Negligence Case
The appellate court should base their decision on the Lowell Bray versus the
business of Kate Incorporated on the following criteria in making their decision.
Negligence based on the five components that would support a strong negligence
case in the courts 1. Duty of Due Care We all have a duty in our society to behave
as a reasonable person would do under certain circumstances. If the defendant (Kate
Incorporated) could have foreseen a possible injury foreseeability to a particular
person Lowell Bray then Kate Incorporated has a legal obligation (duty to Mr.
Lowell Bray.) 2. Breach Did Kate Incorporated breached her duty of care or fail to
meet her legal obligations to Lowell Bray???? Causation 3. Factual Cause Lowell
Bray must prove in a court of law that the business Kate Incorporated conduct caused
his injuries. 4. Proximate Cause Lowell Bray must prove that it was foreseeable that

The Struggle in Shiloh by Bobbie Ann Mason Essay
Leroy and Norma Jean in the short story, Shiloh by Bobbie Ann Mason, are a
married couple, and they experience a series of events, which shapes them and
determines there future. The final setting, Shiloh, works well to highlight the battles
of war to the battles between Norma Jean and Leroy. Throughout the story Mason is
focused on the persistency of grief, the instability of gender roles, along with the
distance and lack of communication separating Leroy and Norma Jean from each
other. Mason illustrates how marriagecan be a struggle striving to work out to the
very end. The struggle to battle with the persistent grief of self blame and lack of
identity is a constant reminder to the barriers in relationships. Leroy grieves... Show

There are many instances where Leroy shows his submissive role of the marriage,
such as, when Mason writes, he is doing needlepoint, macramГ©, and concerning
himself with the state of marriage (Mason 219), because of societies standards he
should be concerned with providing for his family. On the other hand, Norma Jean
is a more dominant character of the household. While Leroy is injured Norma Jean
feels the need to take on his duties by getting an education, having a job, and
focusing on fitness, which Leroy is now learning about her. For instance, Mason
states, Norma Jean and Leroy used to have fun when he came back from work,
eating dinner that she made, playing cards and watching television (Mason 224).
This shows that Leroy does not know his wife is anymore. Leroy recognizes the
change in the roles and the changes he sees in his wife and becomes concerned
about his marriage. Lack of obligations and selfish acts cause conflicts in their
marriage when the characters do not fulfill expectations based on gender. By avoiding
communication the characters seem as if they are doing the best for their
relationship, but in fact it contributes to the dissolution of their marriage. Although
Randy s death occurred years before the story takes place, it continues to pass
through the consciousnesses of Leroy and Norma Jean.
Great Depression Cinderella Man
Representation of the Great Depression in Cinderella Man The movie Cinderella
Man was about life in the Great Depression from a boxer s point of view. The focus
of the movie was on the protagonist, James Braddock; a father who had to accept
jobs on the docks and become a boxer again so he could earn money to buy food and
pay the bills. The movie highlighted the conditions for the homeless, the trough in the
economy, and the struggle to support a family. The movie was successful in being a
true and accurate representation of the Great Depression. The movie portrayed the
lives of the homeless in a realistic way. On screen, the homeless were seen sleeping
in hobo jungles , and in one case an automobile. In reality, the homeless did live in
these jungles where thousands of people without jobs would gather to pass their
leisure time. These hobo jungles were seen as dangerous places, where James
friend Mike was trampled by riot police. They were dangerous places in the 1930 s,
where men who slept there would be robbed,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In one scene, James was walking home from the docks and passed a newspaper
that read Unemployed hits record 15,000,000 . About 25% of the American
workforce was unemployed by the end of 1933, so this movie correctly shows the
situation in the economy. In another scene, James was walking by stores where the
lights were off and the windows were empty. This proves that these stores went out
of business, which occurred during the Great Depression because the money that
businesses spent on stocks was lost in the crash. In the scene where Mike and James
were at a bar, they talked about how they lost their money on stocks in the crash, and
how the government took away Mike s house. Many people invested in stocks, and
the crash caused them to lose money, jobs, and homes from this. Given these points,
the movie accurately presented the trough, but also the lives of
Caesar Imperialism
One of the most defining moments in Roman history was the assassination of Gaius
Julius Caesar on the 15th of March, 44 BCE. It sparked the transition from a
republican to an imperial system of government for Rome. Caesar admired the idea of
a government that was controlled by an individual (Imperialism), and not by senators
constantly jostling for power (Republicanism). There are three points that suggest
why his assassination was the key moment for the transition to take place. Firstly,
Caesar emphasized heavily on the idea that a dictator would assist in the centralizing
of power within Rome, therefor allowing Rome to endure as the dominant force
throughout the Mediterranean. Secondly, after Caesar s death, the second triumvirate
was formed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The conquest of Gaul took place from 58 BCE until 51 BCE, in which Caesar
fought in a number of large battles including the decisive battle of Alesia in 52
BCE, which completed the conquest and gained Rome full control over Gaul.
During his time as proconsul, Caesar saw a great opportunity in obtaining control
over the Gallic province to the North of Rome, as he believed that the centralization
of power was accomplished through gaining land. By the end of the Gallic Wars in
51 BCE, Caesar had reduced to the form of a province the whole of Gaul enclosed by
the Pyrenees, the Alps, the Cevennes, the Rhine, and the Rhone about 640 000 square
miles (Suetonius, Julius Caesar, 25). One of Caesar s motives for taking control of
this much land was that it was a major expansion of the Roman frontier. It created a
complete circuit of his empire, which would then be bounded on all sides by the
ocean (Plutarch. 579). Caesar s strong interest in centralizing power within Rome
died with him, the old form of a republic government was exhausted. Knowing this,
Caesar made no attempt to mask his opinion, bypassing traditional practices
(Bradley, 393). With Caesar naming himself Dictator perpetuo Dictator for life in
47 BCE, the senate soon began to see Caesar s power as a major threat to their own
roles as senators. A step towards imperialism was a result of Caesar s death and his
idea to centralize power in Rome through an individual, forthcoming the second
The Five Key Turning Points In Japan s Medieval Period
The long, battle weary, four hundred year period from the late twelfth century through
the Kamakura period (1185 1333), Muromachi period (1336 1573), and well into the
sixteenth century is referred to as Japan s medieval period. The imperial government
s authority was deteriorating, the provinces were in chaos as warrior clans fought
amongst themselves, and regional military chieftains challenged the imperial
government for the right to rule. Medieval Japan saw the development of feudalism
and a militaristic society led by samurai clans. The Gempei War, Shokyu War, Mongol
Invasions, Kemmu Restoration, and The Onin War are five key turning points in
Japan s transition from a centralized imperial government to feudalism. These
conflicts also demonstrate the evolution of the samurai ethos. Though the Kamakura
period marked the beginning of warrior class rule in Japan, events in the late Heian
period provided the means for samurai clans to rise to positions of power. The
increase in the number and size of shoen (private estates exempt from government
taxation) resulted in a significant decline of the imperial government s authority. By
the twelfth century, it was estimated that only about one tenth of land remained in the
public domain under the authority of the provincial governors. (Hane Perez p. 76)
The lack of taxable land prevented the government from acquiring the financial
resources necessary to maintain a national military. As the central government s

The world today is developing rapidly is every aspect of human life whether be it the
technology, money or population. This change in the surroundings has made
humankind to worry about the future. The advancement in technology nowadays is
more focused towards the optimum utilisation of the exhaustible natural resources.
The increase in population has resulted in the increase of the sale of automobiles as
well.
The advancement in technology has made the automobiles very safe, fast moving and
efficient. Yet, the development in this field has not stopped, more and better ways for
using the full potential of the automobiles are being discovered or invented.
Nowadays, the latest development in this field is the use of Electromagnetic energy.

According to the footprint analysis, energy land represents the biggest section of the
17.8 global acres needed. Forest land takes up the next biggest section, but is
significantly less than the energy land requirement. Forest land comes in third and is
very close to the amount of crop land required to sustain my lifestyle. Grazing land,
built up land, and fishing grounds are all equal and very small compared to the other
land requirements. My footprint breakdown indicates that most of my footprint

The suggestions included reducing the amount of animal products consumed by
half, purchasing products that use less packaging, installing solar panels, switching
to energy efficient appliances, and using public transit more often. While these are
all good suggestions, in my opinion they are mostly unrealistic. The most realistic
change I would make out of all the suggestions is actually cutting down on meat
consumption. Once I graduate I do plan on becoming a vegetarian. I already eat a
relatively small amount of animal products so it is unlikely that I will be cutting it
by half any time soon. Considering my busy schedule and need to not feel hungry
all day or spend an hour trying to cook a balanced vegetarian meal, it is unlikely that
the change will happen before May. Cutting some meat from my diet would also only
decrease my footprint by .1, which seems insignificant. The overall health benefits of
a vegetarian diet and the impact that the meat industry has on the environment are
actually the real reasons behind my plan to cut meat out of my diet

Similarities Between Herjavec And Victor Cruz
While the lives of Robert Herjavec and Victor Cruz have definite similarities, there
are also vast differences in their upbringing, career, and the ideals they believe in.
Although they both battled against stereotypes, they both firmly believed in
making a career for themselves rather than relying on others for help. Herjavec and
Cruz can relate to each other starting at an early age. They were both raised with a
little less money than most and had to work for what they wanted. Nothing about
their lives involved handouts. Herjavec was determined to be successful due to the
bullying he received for being poor. Cruz was also determined to succeed in his
academics for a similar but different reason. He knew that without making the grades,

In order for Cruz to be successful, his success had to start in the classroom. Without
making the grades he wouldn t have the ability to play football which would
eventually end up turning into his career. Unlike Herjavec, it took Cruz s father to
pass away in order to motivate him to be successful in his studies and his career.
Once he realized he had to be the head of the family, he knew he had to buckle
down and do what was necessary to provide for his mom. On the other hand,
Herjavec has always had an entrepreneur business man side to him. He always
knew how to maximize his success in anything he set his mind to do without
anyone telling him how to do so. What really sets Herjavec and Cruz apart is the
type of determination they both have for the careers they are in. Herjavec is
determined to do whatever he could be the most successful in, and his poison was
data security. He knew that cyber attacks were an ongoing problem and he wanted
to fix that problem. Cruz was determined to be successful in football because that
was his passion and what he knew he could excel in. He did what he had to when
he was drafted into the Giants to make sure he did his absolute best as a slot
Female Labor Force And Sterilization Practices
I would like to compare and contrast the subject of the Female Labor Force and
Sterilization Practices. As the progressive era began, there are a lot of changes for
the women s labor force with respect to politics. They were stronger because they
stood up for themselves, refusing to be victims any longer and they did so by way
of going on strike and making demands (Dubois Dumenil, 2016). The labor force at
this time was 18.3% of women, which when compared to the 2014 statistic of 57%,
shows a substantial increase over this period of time ( Women in the Labor Force,
n.d.). Wage rates for the women in the early 1900 s continues to be approximately
half of what the men earned, as well as there was a division between occupations
and business sectors between the sexes so women were not given many options in
the labor force. Many single women were limited to working in factories or
domestic labor. However, as time progressed, more opportunities such as clerical
positions, which were once a male dominated field, began to open for women. This
gave them steady wages, clean and safe working conditions but eventually had a
similar setting as factories and some were even paid per piece wages. Eventually, by
the 1920 s, there were even professional fields opening up for the educated female
workforce. This gave women personal independence as they were in positions such
as medicine, law and teaching to name a few. However, these professional women
would begin to have problems as we

Music from All over the World Presents a Range of
Musical...
Music from all over the world presents a range of musical theories. Some of these are
documented in writing whilst others are transmitted orally. Discuss and give
examples with reference to both Western and non Western music.
Music Theory can be understood as chiefly the study of the structure of music. With
the idea of both written and oral notation, it may be understood through recognized
systems of indication, and used as systems of memorizing and transmitting the
theories themselves. Western music theory is significant for its quantity and range
whilst those of non Western traditions are also notable in possessing major works of
theoretical oration and literature.
Melodies for texts of the liturgy of the early Western Church were... Show more

Another method that was used in enriching a melody was by doubling it through the
use of parallel consonant intervals. This practice was already employed in the ninth
century treatises Musica enchiriadis and Scolica enchiriadis , and the term organum
was adopted for several styles of polyphony illustrating two or more voices singing
different notes in pleasing combinations according to the set system. The various
styles of organum such as parallel organum, mixed parallel and oblique organum,
and free organum illustrated in Musica enchiriadis were ways for singers to
embellish chant in performance based on given rules for developing added voices
from the chant. Guido of Arezzo described organum in his Micrologus , allowing a
range of choices that could result in a variety of organal voices merging oblique and
parallel motion. In most cases, these organal voices were composed orally, either
improvised by a soloist or rehearsed beforehand.
Evidence for such oral composition can be seen in the Winchester Troper ; a
manuscript of tropes and other liturgical music from an English monastery in
Winchester. It contains 174 organa where only the organal voices are notated in
neumes which do not indicate exact pitches but serve as a reminder for a singer who
already knows the music. This strongly suggests that the organal voices were
composed and transmitted orally and were written down as an aid to memory.

Battle Of The Huertgen Forest
Battle of the Huertgen SFC Nick Deeb SLC Class 15 001 Battle of the Huertgen
During the final months of World War II, the battle of the Huertgen Forest was
widely considered to be the longest battle in the history of the United States
military, as well as one of the most costly in terms of human losses. In those four
months, over 60,000 Soldiers died or were casualties of the brutal engagement. The
U.S. Army knew that the Huertgen was a deep dark forested area that would be used
by the German Army to hide untold numbers of German troops in which to launch
offensives against the Southern flank of the U.S. line of troops moving into the heart
of Germany. On the simple face of looking at the size and density of the Huertgen

Ultimately, it may have even affected the duration of the upcoming Battle of the
Bulge. The terrain of the Huertgen and surrounding area was hugely significant in
this battle. The Huertgen was a dense forest, and it has not yet to this day over
seventy years later recovered from the massive amount of shelling that occurred
during the 4 months between September and December 1944. The Huertgen is
approximately 50 square miles, and was heavy with 100 foot tall trees. It was so
dark that it was difficult to see more than a few meters in front of oneself in certain
areas, thus making travel extremely difficult for the advancing U.S. forces. The
Germans that were waiting the advance of the American troops within the forest in
fortified bunker positions had the renewed determination of fighting on their own
soil. The Huertgen is made up of a deep gorge like valley known as the Kall Valley.
It is beset by two large spurs of high ground where the towns of Schmidt, Vossenach
and Kommershiedt lay. The Americans objective for the advance towards the
Huertgen was to take these towns, destroy the German forces until the Huertgen was
empty of any possible German resistance, thus protecting what would be their
Southern flank on the march towards victory, bringing a quick end to the war. The
American commanders at the highest of echelons felt that the war itself was nearly
over by October 1944 and that the spirit of the German forces were about to break if

The Case Of Alexander Vs. Holmes County Board Of
Education
The topic I ll be discussing will be the biasedness in media about a particular topic,
the US Supreme Court s decision on the case of Alexander vs. Holmes County
Board of Education. The case involved a previous Supreme Court ruling of Brown
vs. Board of Education, where they gave schools to desegregate public schools
with all deliberate speed. 15 years passed and school districts were still segregated,
so the courts gave them till the beginning of the next year, 1970. This gave some
schools a very abrupt shock as they had to conform to the decision. As something
that opinionated, it allows news media to explore and write about such a topic. The
following day after the case was presented to the Supreme Justices, the Dallas
Morning News paper gave a few remarks about how the federal government stood
alongside the state of Mississippi in the Supreme Court and pleaded for delay in
further desegregation... 1 The use of the federal government in this situation is to
have the reader sympathize with Mississippi and is even followed by pleaded to
further the sympathy. The government shared the frustrations of black school
children... 1 is written to try to balance out the biased opinion but when children is
used instead of students, it creates a belittling picture of their opposition. The
administration s chief civil rights lawyer, Jerris Leonard, was quoted saying that both
the North and South had made substantial breakthroughs in desegregation of
schools... but that
The African Ghana Empire
Ghana, so named because of the West African Ghana Empire, home to the grand
ethnic group Soninke. The Ghana Empire was in the area of Africa that is now
Southeastern Mauritania and Western Mali. By the end of the sixteenth century,
ethnic groups that made up Ghana have already settled into their current locations.
While the dedicated archaeological research of historians and oral history have
uncovered and found remains that show that the area has had inhabitants since
around 4000 BC, to this point in time, it seems the societies that lived there did not
leave many traces for historians to study. Research does show that between 1471
and 1482 the Portuguese are the first to arrive on the coast of Guinea, known at
this time as The Gold Coast, due to the its precious minerals. Thoughts of gold,
ivory and pepper bring these settlers to this land and lead them to build the first
European structure in the country. The first structure ever built here is a fortress
named Elmina, which means, the Mine. This makes way for the Gold Coast to
become the lead supplier in gold to Europe. Modern Ghanaian territory was the
center of the Empire of Asante, this empire was considered to be a very advanced
state during the sub Saharan African centuries. This time was before colonial rule
and according to history, the King of the Asante Empire had at his disposal, five

Though soldiers like, Lieutenant Scheisskopf obsess over the awards, in the they

The hospital represents safety and refuge, as most of the soldiers prefer it to fighting
in the war. In fact, many soldiers (including Yossarian), make up injuries and diseases
on the spot to be admitted to avoid more combat missions.
The increasing number of mission represents unfairness and unjust society of the
time. This along with the idea that to leave the military one must be considered
insane and asking to leave in itself nullifies insanity, effectively barring anyone from
leaving. This illogic nature matches the way Heller perceives war in and of itself.
The bandaged man in the hospital epitomizes the cruel and undignified treatment of
soldiers in the military. First of all the character is unrecognizable due to his condition
and is not identified with a name, showing the military s lack empathy towards their
soldiers, seeming them as units rather than individuals. Secondly, nurses and other
medical officials treat him poorly, dumping his own waste back into his body.

Descriptive Essay On Scrooge
Overly grumpy and has extortionate avarice, this is Scrooge. Scrooge may also be
malcontent, and he is this little miserly ol curmudgeon. Happiness, kindness, and
Christmas, Scrooge hates, until a clique of three apparitions comes and shows him
otherwise. May I also add the fact that Scrooge is not very liberal, instead he is
odious, and misanthropic. This man was a miserable, depressed, heavy hearted
man. According to the text, no one ever stopped Scrooge in the street to say, with a
gladsome look, My dear Scrooge, how are you? When will you come to see me?
Scrooge has an unfortunate reputation of being antisocial, depressed, negative,
untrustworthy. Extremely uncaring, and thoughtless to the poor people, Scrooge is,
as he thinks there is a jail for poor people. In general, Scrooge is just very negative.
The triplet of ghosts comes to show Scrooge the reasons of why it is bad to be
negative, antisocial, and untrustworthy. Also, Scrooge is very much a gargantuan
jerk. The three ghosts give Scrooge a last chance to change his unfortunate, bad
reputation into a fortunate, positive reputation. The first of the three spirits was the
spirit of Christmaspast. The spirit of Christmas past took ol dolorous Scrooge to see
his past childhood. The text states that they passed through Scrooge s wall, and
stood upon an open country road, with fields on either end. This city had vanished
in present time. Good Heaven! Said Scrooge, clasping his hands together, as he
looked about him. I was bred in this place, I was a boy here. The significance is
that Scrooge learns to not be such a gargantuan jerk. Scrooge s feelings are as if he
is being tortured by the spirit of Christmas past. As you would expect, Scrooge hated
watching his childhood past, and begs the spirit of Christmas past to dispel him from
his childhood. Scrooge very much is gargantuanly odious of watching his childhood,
as he cannot bear it. The ghost of Christmas past takes Scrooge back.
Scrooge wakes up, as it is about to be one o clock. It already has happened once, so
Scrooge is used to all of it now, so he stays calm, as he pulls apart the bed curtains all
by himself, and Scrooge also prepares to not freak out this time, though, nothing
happens.
The Vampire Is A Dark And Ominous Creature Of The
Woods Of...
When thinking of the word vampire most people would think that the vampire is a
dark and ominous creature of the woods of Hungary or Transylvania (Wilson 577).
They would possibly say that the vampires in the stories that they heard of or
imagined may live in caves or castles. The vampires may turn into bats and that they
drain humans of their blood. Vampireshave to invited into a home by an owner and
they cannot go anywhere near garlic. If you try to take a picture of them they will
not show up on the film. They might believe that vampires are completely
uncivilized and animalistic. In many stories and films this was the story that was
told of vampires and now it is known as stereotypical vampires . Today, to keep the
vampiregenre fresh and new, authors and screenwriters turned the genre around and
created new histories and descriptions of vampires. Some vampires are now known as
attractive to lure in their victims, the term vegetarian vampire was introduced in
Stephenie Meyers Twilight for vampires that do not drink human blood. So many
other things have changed in the new vampire genre .
The incredibly vivid and colorful world of Vampire Academy novels differs in some
ways from the very basic stories and descriptions of vampires that everyone knows.
Vampire Academy emerged in the midst of the young adult vampire phenomenon that
began several years ago. However, it distanced itself from the others, like Twilight,
with very different themes and elements. While
Sex Is Not Only Important For The Existence Of Humanity

Although sex can be something that men and women desire, and at times yearn for it
is important to remember that sex is not just a physical act, it is something that comes

During sexual intercourse or sexual activity, a substance known as semen, which is
comprised of salt, water and other bodily fluids aid the sperm for its travel through

women have external and internal sex organs. However, unlike men women are

Natural Gases And Its Effects On The World Essay
The world has seen a drastic reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, the benefits of
the transition from burning coals to using natural gases. The consequences however,
are seemingly becoming more damaging than experts thought. Natural gases are
primarily composed of methane gas (CH4), gases which are 35 times the potency of
carbon dioxideand traps much more heat radiation. The United States alone is
responsible for 30% to 60% of global growth in human caused methaneemissions in
the past 14 years (Magill 2016). During the process of extraction and transportation of
natural gases, is where the problem resides. Methane leakage occurs from processing
plants and storage facilities becoming a major concern for the environment. The big
question is, how much methane actually escapes into the atmosphere and what are
the challenges humans face trying to prevent further leakages.
One of the biggest challenge is to identify the impact and damage that fugitive
methane has and will do to the world. In a recent incident that happened at Aliso
Canyon, California, there was a gas leakage that took place over a four month period
that was only plugged. The incident is estimated to have spewed enough methane into
the atmosphere to equal the greenhouse gases emitted by more than 440,000 cars in a
year (Magill 2016, 1). However, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
estimates that more than six million metric tons of methane are have leaked in 2011.

Determination Of Copper Sulphate Using Colorimetry Lab

Finding the concentration of an unknown sample of copper sulphate using
colorimetry.
In this task the concentration of an unknown sample of copper sulphate using
colorimetry was used to find the concentration. In this investigation copper sulphate
was used which is CuSO4.5H20 as a formula. To make a standard solution which
was 1M, the same clean equipment was used to make up the standard solution as
used to make sodium carbonate. However there was one difference and that was
that the hot distilled water was used to dissolve the copper sulphate crystals. There
had to be enough hot water in order to dissolve the crystals into the beaker and then
add cold distilled water to cool the solution.
After this, the solution was poured into a volumetric flask just about to the 1dm3
line and then it was left there to cool to the same temperature as the room before
filling precisely to the 1dm3 line with distilled water. The molar mass of
CuSO4.5H20 was 249.5 so that means 249.5g of copper sulphate was needed to
dissolve, in order to make a standard solution, into 1dm3of distilled water. Following
this, a linear dilution of the CuSO4.5H2O was made in order to be used to make a
calibration curve after using the colorimeter to write down the absorbance of each
sample. A linear dilution is diluted with distilled water in order for it to make the
concentration weaker and weaker. For this investigation, the dilutions made ranged

Imperialism In The Time Machine
The Values of British Imperialism: Implications on a Futuristic Society
H.G. Wells The Time Machine recounts the trip of a scientist, the Time Traveller,
from Victorian England to the future where humanity has been reduced to two sub
species: the Eloi and the Morlock. The novella examines how key values of Victorian
England, such as self improvement, shape the social structure of the Victorian period
and the cascading effects of these values on the society of the future. In the Victorian
social pyramid, the upper class, white, educated male was at the top. In this social
hierarchy, under this Victorian male, were the rest of the English workers and the
women. This social structure also applied to the colonies that England controlled.

The Time Traveller is disappointed with how the Eloi had the same form of
costume, same hairless visage and the same girlish rotundity of limb (24); the Eloi
lacked individualism and masculinity. This accounts for part of the Time Traveller s
disappointment. The other part of the Time Traveller s disappointment stems from
his frustration with the course of evolution because he believes that humanity has
moved toward contented inactivity (28). In the eyes of the Time Traveller, the Eloi
society does not equate to Victorian society in regards to the overall complexity and
intellect just as the imperialistic British thought the societies of their colonies did
not have the same complexity and intellect as Victorian England. This parallel leads
the Time Traveller to treat the natives of the future, the Eloi and the Morlock, just
like the British treated the native of their colonies, with complete disrespect. The
two groups of the future act very differently towards the Time Traveller. As Cantor
and Hufnagel describe the two sub species, there is a good tribe and a bad tribe (38),
which in The Time Machine are the Eloi and the Morlock respectively. The good
tribe in this novella is pleasant towards the Time Traveller, providing basic
necessities for his survival. In regards to the Morlock, the bad tribe, the Time

achieved the paramount form of society, one that is ideal in its ethical, social, and
political facets. Simple to imagine but impossible to replicate, and that is, according
to Plato s Theory of Forms, because the physical world is a poor copy of these ideas,
these forms, even the ones closest to perfection are imperfect. That is why a utopia
can not be attained in reality. Although, in Montaigne s Of Cannibals, it is proposed
that the natural state is the closest to accomplishing this. The ideas set forth in this
work, chiefly the concept of cultural relativism, influenced Shakespeare in his writing
of The Tempest, and the characters Gonzalo and Caliban portray... Show more content

Caliban is subjected to a way of thought that is utterly new to him, given to him
from Miranda and Propsero, and it is said by Montaigne that those who think and
act in these way are savage, not just those who they imposed these ideas upon
simply because in their eyes they were deemed as savage. Even though Caliban is a
slave to Prospero and had wicked notions towards him, it is only because his natural
state was altered, which can sometimes lead to an opposite effect than intended.
Montaigne also describes that a nation that is closest to perfection is one with no
knowledge of political systems, letters, numbers etcetera, and Shakespeare concurs
with this through representing it in Gonzalo, who contemplates that if he had the
island to rule, he would rule congruently with Montaigne s belief. The characters of
Caliban and Gonzalo both represent Shakespeare s agreement with Montaigne and his
philosophy of cultural

Analysis Of Garden Valley Hunger Center
You don t forget the face of the person who was your last hope. Collins In the span
of a few months, I have had the privilege of helping with programs that work toward
ending hunger in Northeastern Ohio. I worked at three places, and they all have a
great impact on the community they serve. Working with the people there, I gained a
better understanding of how people become food insecure and how important these
programs are. The kindness I was shown is astonishing, and being shown this
affection made me build strong emotional connections to those I was helping.
Volunteering at these centers gave me a lot of hope that diminishing hunger
insecurity is possible. The first place I volunteered was Garden Valley Hunger Center

She gives me hope that there will be a change in society that will focus on ebbing
hunger insecurities in America. Another program that I believe will eliminate hunger
is the St. Pats Hot Meal Program. St. Pats is a church that serves hot meals to the
community multiple times a week. When a group of peers and I got there, we spent
some time with the kids that showed up while the kitchen was getting ready for the
meal. We brought them coloring books, crayons, colored pencils, puzzles, and
checkers. I sat across from a little boy who kept almost falling asleep. His grandma
explained to me that he does not usually act this way. He is usually a ball of energy
who bounces off the walls, but that day he did not have the energy because he was
hungry. No matter how hard I tried to distract him with coloring or even a
conversation, he could not stop thinking about how hungry he was. It made me
really sad to think that someone s hunger could be so bad that they cannot do
anything. Food is a necessity, and being deprived of it can make you feel less
human. I hate that in this rich, industrialized nation, there are severe problems. We
need to focus on ending hunger in America, and places like St. Pats will help do that.
We need to support these programs and expand them to reach all of the hunger
insecure. By building upon these programs, we Ohioans

Counterfeit Goods in the Global Market
Reducing the Frequency of Counterfeit Goods in the Global Market
Introduction
Despite counterfeit goods deceiving social perception, the act of manufacturing and
the buying of counterfeit goods or copied products is highly destructive to the overall
function of the global economy. On account of its appeal to those looking for a low
risk, high profit system, many get involved in the distribution of illegal goods through
source countries including China and transit countries like Egypt and Singapore, with
the help of typologies such as parallel trading. Unbeknownst to the common people is
the economic, environmental, and health risks that this process produces. In the sale
of counterfeit goods, criminals manage to bypass tax revenues, decrease employment
opportunities, exploit labor through low wages, decrease company liability, and
misuse ingredients in pharmaceuticals which ultimately lead to a variety of
intellectual property violations.1 Ultimately, it is in the best interest of the public to
identify the tactics used by criminals in an attempt to repudiate detection, all while
compromising company security and international, transborder authority.
Belgium is currently a member of the European Union wherein goods traveling
through borders are highly regulated according to the Customs Regulation.
Nonetheless, Belgium s central points of entry and concern include the harbours of

Barbie Doll Research Paper
Attitudes Toward Male and Female Bodies in Society and The Effects
Modern day stigmas and norms force men and women to put forth a lot of
attention on their bodies. These societal demands create insecurities, and lead to
various troubles in people such as eating disorders, addictions, or even suicide.
Many advertisements create rude images towards women, insulting their
intelligence and self esteem. In Marge Piercy s poem Barbie Doll (1971), a girl
described is healthy and smart, but becomes engulfed in her self image when a
classmate points out You have a great big nose and fat legs (6). It is important that
we become aware of this negative culture and how it affects men, women, and
children. A few intellectuals have written pieces on this subject to bring awareness to
the public. Jeam Kilbourne is all about connecting male and female roles in
advertisements to social problems. Immergut further analyzes how our culture
cultivates a world in which men must be more high maintenance towards their
bodies in order to adhere to social norms. Psychologists Sara Cahill and Alexander
J. Mussap conducted a study to see people s emotional states change after exposure
to ideal body images and same sex models and report their findings. Linda Smolak
tells of children s premature concerns about their own bodies based on her own
research. These writers display the toxic culture we live in today, and how hurtful it
is to society.
Kilbourne argues that sex in advertising is more about
Jeremy Rifkin Enemies Of Promise

Science has helped improve many people s lifestyle from eating a healthy diet to
stopping different form of disease that are attacking the human body. Science also
provides intolerable lifestyle to people such as the elders as when the elderly have
an incurable disease and the elderly are suffering for this incurable disease and
wants to die, but cannot due to science advancement in technology making
impossible to die at that moment. The possible future of science is uncontrollable.
The power of science provides possibility and with this possibility doesn t always
generate a good possibility. Jeremy Rifkin in Biotech Century and Michael Bishop in

The creation with all the religions belief or attachment will suddenly shatter as
people relied or set their whole life around that belief. There are people whom
committed suicide because of a belief that was stated It was the end of the world in
May 21, 2011, Judgment day and also went into financial shambles as those people
who believed in their belief sold everything they own and left with nothing. Rifkin
quoted, Genesis could lead to a far different future a biological Tower of Babel and
the spread of chaos throughout the biological world, drowning out the ancient
language of creation (312).This states that with biological creation creates more
nonsense as the idea of the beginning creation of life seem invalid; in doing so,
creates the idea of an ordinary human creating the whole world itself, due to time as
time fades away the ancient language of creation. If creationism became true then
many people would changes their ways as they thrives to find a religious purpose
where sins or deeds that they acquired previously won t have any effects against
them such as killing a person previously and hoping that the person that he or she
killed won t affected by the idea of eternal darkness after death. The fear of

Mythic Frontiersman In Owen Winter s The Virginian
[Intro]
In the later half of the nineteenth century, the mythic frontiersman was commonly
described as full of hope, righteous, and uncorrupt by tainted social order. This kind of
frontiersman is referred to as the American Adam. The American Adam frontiersman
can be found in [insert]
However in the 1860s and 1870s a new concept of frontiersman arose. Dime novel
authors presented these western men as strong, self reliant, and upholders of the law.
This idea of the frontiersman is presented in Owen Winter s novel, The Virginian.
The Virginian is an American hero who is masculine and always ends up saving the
day. This man is portrayed similar to a knight in shinning armor. He didn t care about
material rewards as he fought for truth and justice. [not sure what to add here...] ...

Instead, the myths idealized life on the frontier. Authors used descriptive details in
their stories to make the west seem appealing to the American Dream. The myths of
the frontier made the Great Plains look like a land that was full of opportunity. An
illustration of this idea is the dime novel, Young Wild West written by An Old Scout.
This novel was about an eighteen year old boy who traveled all over the western
frontier looking for adventures. Young Wild West, no matter the issue, always saved
the day. Americans have a fondness for the frontier myth because of the belief in
economic opportunity. There was also something about the image of a man plunging
into the wilderness on his own and defending himself against the unknown dangers in
the new world that many Americans found fascinating and mysterious. Additionally,
the Plains offered all peoples a fresh start in
Carbon Dioxide And Climate Change
In America, we are starting to experience what I call the Climate Crisis and the big
question is, do Americans seek to decrease our carbon emissions? Or do we spend
the money to mitigate the long term effects of Climate Change?
Carbon Dioxide is one of the few gases in our atmosphere that trap heat and provide
Earth with what we know as the Greenhouse Effect. Without this greenhouse effect,
the dense warm blanket that surrounds our atmosphere wouldn t exist. Well,
according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the atmospheres
existence has not always been a problem for us, During ice ages, CO2 levels were
around two hundred parts per million (ppm) and during the warmer interglacial
periods they hovered around 280 ppm. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The principal reason is that water vapor has a short cycle in the atmosphere (10
days on average) before it is incorporated into weather events and falls to Earth, so it
cannot build up in the atmosphere in the same way as carbon dioxide does. However,
a vicious cycle exists with water vapor, in which as more CO2 is emitted into the
atmosphere and the Earth s temperature rises, more water evaporates into the Earth s
atmosphere, which increases the temperature of the planet. The higher temperature
atmosphere can then hold more water vapor than
Comparison Of Actus Rea, Causation And Punishment
Actus Reus, Mens Rea, Causation and Punishment are all considered elements of a
crime. Actus reus or also known as the Guilty act , is the external physical part of a
crime. In other words actus rea refers to intentional criminal conduct or criminal
negligence (Powerpoint). It is not only about what a person does but also about what
they do not do. It is committing a voluntary act which ultimately causes harm to
others.
Other then Actus Reus, Mens rea refers to the mental aspect of crime, it even
translates to „ Guilty Mind .Mens rea states that a person is not necessarily guilty
unless their minds are guilty as well.
Causation means that „In order for a crime to be a legal crime, there must be a

In order for an act or behavior to be considered a crime there has to follow
punishment or the threat of punishment.
Status offense refers to an act that is illegal for a teenager/ juvenile but would not
be considered a crime if committed by an adult (Powerpoint). The most common
example of this is the possession of alcohol/intoxication or tobacco products for
anyone under the legal age requirement. More example would include running away
from home or school, as well as violating curfews such as on a probationary licensee.
The twinkie defense started with the case of Dan White. He was a retired police
officer and firefighter in san francisco before becoming a well known politician.
Due to depression Dan white resigned form his job in november 1978, however he
changed his mind just a day later. When coming to the realization that he would not
get his job back he decided to arm himself and make his way to the city hall. He
shot the mayor four times and then continued on to his supervisor, Mr. Milk, who he
shot five times. His defense was that he suffered from diminished capacity as a result
of his depression. He blamed the depression for eating sugary foods such as twinkies
and having an unhealthy diet. However Whits Defense never claimed that this
unhealthy diet was the cause, but instead that is was one of the symptoms he
experienced proving that he had depression. Dan White was only sentenced to 7 years
in prison due to manslaughter.
Is My Team Plowing by A.E. Housman Essay
The Afterlife ...a very curious subject that we as humans want to know about, we
never want to experience it but we wonder what it would be like. Me as an
individual, I am fascinated by the endless amount of ways life could be after death,
if there even is life after death. Maybe one day you have the gloomy ,and desirable
curiosity questions floating in your head like, do they miss me, or have they moved
on already? In Is my Team Plowing , by A.E. Housman, the emotional speaker
discusses how life goes on after death. The speaker, who is thought to be the friend
of a dead man, is guilty for moving on in life and having relations with his deceased
friend s wife, so he is having a moment of guilt in his head or else that s how I...

People will eventually be forgotten, and life will continue on earth for everyone
else. The poem structure is an eight stanza quatrain with a rhyme scheme of
ABCB. Is football playing / Along the river shore, / With lads to chase the leather,
/ Now I stand up no more? (Housman 9 12). Each stanza alternates between
questions from the dead man and answers from his friend. Stanzas that are quoted
represent the dead man s questions. The stanzas without quotations are responses
from the friend who is alive. Each stanza is significant because it reveals a little
background of some of the things the dead man participated in. The speaker of the
poem is a matter of opinion and how you look at things. One outcome is that it s the
dead man literally talking to his friend in some way and they are discussing life. The
second thought is that the friend is having internal conflict with himself with the fact
that he got with the dead man s wife. The purpose is to communicate emotionally a
certain truth about human life; life goes on after our deaths. Very similar to the way
life was before your death.
It also emphasizes the humans sense of betray and guilt that may follow after the
death of a friend. (Arp and Johnson 687). Yes, lad, I lie easy, / I lie as lads would
choose; / I cheer a dead man s sweetheart, / Never ask me whose. (Housman 29 32).
The irony of the story that you catch on at the end is that his friend hooked up with
his girlfriend and life
Rhetorical Devices Used In A Modest Proposal
Swift wants the reader to describe the persona he adopts as one with a deep
understanding of the deplorable circumstances in Ireland, so that he is deemed
reasonable in his proposed solution for the state of the kingdom. He successfully
achieves this by incorporating thorough descriptions of his plan, such as in the
explanation having 20,000 poor children reserved for breeding and the remaining
100,000 used as sustenance for the rest of the populace. Swift also forms a solid
argument by appealing to pathos in addressing heartbreaking topics such as, the
mothers who, instead of being able to work for their honest livelihood, are forced to
employ all their time in strolling to beg sustenance for their helpless infants, which
promotes sympathy in the readers, thereby influencing them to agree with his
proposal to counteract such unfortunate circumstances.... Show more content on

When Swift introduced the idea of using children as a source of nourishment, a
satirical stance on the proposal through the sharp contrast in moral principles from
protecting children to eating them. I believe that a modern audience would
understand the joke faster than Swift s contemporaries did because the modern
world is one with strong family morals. Therefore, proposing the consuming of
infants would be viewed as such an absurd proposition that there would be no logical
way for his argument to be

Throughout the school year, the students work effortlessly with Mr. Clark along with their school teachers prepare for the real test. Mr. Clark s crazy and wild antics start to get to the students and they begin to respect him even more for it. They begin to see that he is only doing this with all of their best interests in mind. One of the students who was expelled s mother complained about the way Mr. Clark ran things at his school and got the mayor involved. After Mr. Clark is found with the chains on the door, which is illegal and a fire safety hazard, and was arrested. All of the students came down to the Board of Education in Paterson and basically protested and ranted on how they wanted Mr. Clark to be released and return to his duties as principal. • 3. The Role Of The Druze Religion In The World The Druze religion is one of the most exclusive religions in the world. Within the religion, one can only be born into it and is a member until they chose to leave. When one makes the decision to leave, they can never rejoin the religion afterwards. The exclusivity makes it so people have the opportunity to live their lives in the religionwhile not taking it for granted. Members of the Druze religion live their lives according to the rules set, but can chose when to stop following them. Being a kid is similar to being in a religion. After being born into it, one is a kid until they no longer identify as one; when that day comes, there is no turning back. Kids have changed drastically over time, while decreasing in size as well. Response To Buddhism Response Buddhism III response Most Buddhists instead of becoming monks or nuns, they integrate their religious practice into the socioeconomic facets of the average individual s life. Philosophically, this idea of universal salvation is based upon the doctrine of interdependence. Similarly, it has been determined that individual salvation is both ethically and conceptually impossible. This is why there are bodhisattvas who help individuals reach Pure Land. Some evident transitions include, the weakening of state control and the institutionalization of Buddhism as a distinct corporate entity in administration, taxation, and economic activities; the influence of enlightenment thinking and modernist scientific rational ism, which is evident in Buddhist monastic reforms and in Buddhist publications for public consumption; a decline followed by a modest recovery of both monastic and lay Buddhism, in parallel with a growth in the enhanced status of women as nuns or lay practitioners in East and Southeast Asia; engagement with social and political causes in the form of Buddhist reform movements, hospitals, NGO s, and social services; the commercialization of ritual services, especially in the form of funerary Buddhism ; increasing lay interest in Buddhism as a self help movement, accompanied by broader participation in activities once limited exclusively for monastics: meditation classes, retreats, study groups, and the like; and the expansion of Tibetan Buddhism throughout Asia and the world since 1959, as a consequence of the Tibetan exile. The modernization of Buddhism influenced some of the well regarded authors in American Literature. The Heart SuМ„tra (a foundational scripture of MahaМ„yaМ„na Buddhism) was translated by Henry David Thoreau. However, Buddhist modernism is mostly lay based and individualistic. It is focused on meditation and psychological introspection. Furthermore, in 1960 s America, a highly romanticized view of Buddhism began to form. This view of Buddhism in the modern age was inspired by the countercultural movements and by a few cosmopolitan Asian intellectuals who have lectured and published in the West. More importantly, One of the most significant social and institutional developments in

The S TOFHLA is available in English and Spanish, and The REALM R is used only in English.8 Since the instruments are only available in English and Spanish, the study will explore and compare the diagnostic accuracy both instruments in non English populations other than Spanish specifically in Indonesian. • 7. Color In Eilis s Life The colors in this film signify so much more than just clothes or landscape, colors seem to signify significant moments in Eilis s life. I think that we all subconsciously wear certain colors when we are feeling a certain way, I know that even on some level we do it consciously, like for example when you go to a wedding you cannot wear white, or when you go to a funeral you usually wear black. Especially in a time like the 1950 s when women really only wore dresses, their only way of looking different would be to wear colorful dresses or the makeup on their faces. The film starts out with Eilis in Ireland and her colors seem rather dull, like grey and she is not wearing an ounce of makeup. It really helps to show you how boring and dismal... Blue is supposedly most strongly associated with tranquility and a sense of calm, which is what you would hope to feel when the guy you are with asks you to move into together. She did not hesitate when he asked, she was simply taking in the area and all of the surroundings and she knew that is where she was meant to be. This is another strange aspect of this film because it makes Eilis seem like she is a very independent young woman, and in a time like the 1950 s she would not probably have been as independent and been making all of these decisions on her own. Another peculiar behavior is when she decides to invite Tony into her room and she initiates the sexual interaction, which is very irregular for this time period. However after her and Tony had sex for the first time she is seen wearing a yellow dress, yellow is associated with happiness, intellect, energy, and yellow produces a warming effect. Yellow stimulates mental activity. Eilis is finally moving away from Ireland and her family the more time she spends with Tony, for this time period the man being such a large part of Eilis s life is not surprising in any way. The 1950 s women were very concerned about becoming wives and being mothers, so when she finally felt happy and content to be away from home it had to be a man that was making the transition so

Overall, I would rate my personal success in the facilitation as a seven or an eight. Although I feel like I was an active facilitator, there is always something that could use improvement. Some of the aspects that I feel like I could improve on include feelingmore comfortable speaking in front of groups and feeling more confident in what I am saying, and not just going through the motions. This can play a role in how much eye contact I have with the group as well. The more comfortable I am with the information and the more confident

The Struggle in Shiloh by Bobbie Ann Mason Essay Leroy and Norma Jean in the short story, Shiloh by Bobbie Ann Mason, are a married couple, and they experience a series of events, which shapes them and determines there future. The final setting, Shiloh, works well to highlight the battles of war to the battles between Norma Jean and Leroy. Throughout the story Mason is focused on the persistency of grief, the instability of gender roles, along with the distance and lack of communication separating Leroy and Norma Jean from each other. Mason illustrates how marriagecan be a struggle striving to work out to the very end. The struggle to battle with the persistent grief of self blame and lack of identity is a constant reminder to the barriers in relationships. Leroy grieves... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are many instances where Leroy shows his submissive role of the marriage, such as, when Mason writes, he is doing needlepoint, macramГ©, and concerning himself with the state of marriage (Mason 219), because of societies standards he should be concerned with providing for his family. On the other hand, Norma Jean is a more dominant character of the household. While Leroy is injured Norma Jean feels the need to take on his duties by getting an education, having a job, and focusing on fitness, which Leroy is now learning about her. For instance, Mason states, Norma Jean and Leroy used to have fun when he came back from work, eating dinner that she made, playing cards and watching television (Mason 224). This shows that Leroy does not know his wife is anymore. Leroy recognizes the change in the roles and the changes he sees in his wife and becomes concerned about his marriage. Lack of obligations and selfish acts cause conflicts in their marriage when the characters do not fulfill expectations based on gender. By avoiding communication the characters seem as if they are doing the best for their relationship, but in fact it contributes to the dissolution of their marriage. Although Randy s death occurred years before the story takes place, it continues to pass through the consciousnesses of Leroy and Norma Jean.
  • 12. Great Depression Cinderella Man Representation of the Great Depression in Cinderella Man The movie Cinderella Man was about life in the Great Depression from a boxer s point of view. The focus of the movie was on the protagonist, James Braddock; a father who had to accept jobs on the docks and become a boxer again so he could earn money to buy food and pay the bills. The movie highlighted the conditions for the homeless, the trough in the economy, and the struggle to support a family. The movie was successful in being a true and accurate representation of the Great Depression. The movie portrayed the lives of the homeless in a realistic way. On screen, the homeless were seen sleeping in hobo jungles , and in one case an automobile. In reality, the homeless did live in these jungles where thousands of people without jobs would gather to pass their leisure time. These hobo jungles were seen as dangerous places, where James friend Mike was trampled by riot police. They were dangerous places in the 1930 s, where men who slept there would be robbed,... About 25% of the American workforce was unemployed by the end of 1933, so this movie correctly shows the situation in the economy. In another scene, James was walking by stores where the lights were off and the windows were empty. This proves that these stores went out of business, which occurred during the Great Depression because the money that businesses spent on stocks was lost in the crash. In the scene where Mike and James were at a bar, they talked about how they lost their money on stocks in the crash, and how the government took away Mike s house. Many people invested in stocks, and the crash caused them to lose money, jobs, and homes from this. Given these points, the movie accurately presented the trough, but also the lives of
  • 13. Caesar Imperialism One of the most defining moments in Roman history was the assassination of Gaius Julius Caesar on the 15th of March, 44 BCE. It sparked the transition from a republican to an imperial system of government for Rome. Caesar admired the idea of a government that was controlled by an individual (Imperialism), and not by senators constantly jostling for power (Republicanism). There are three points that suggest why his assassination was the key moment for the transition to take place. Firstly, Caesar emphasized heavily on the idea that a dictator would assist in the centralizing of power within Rome, therefor allowing Rome to endure as the dominant force throughout the Mediterranean. Secondly, after Caesar s death, the second triumvirate was formed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The conquest of Gaul took place from 58 BCE until 51 BCE, in which Caesar fought in a number of large battles including the decisive battle of Alesia in 52 BCE, which completed the conquest and gained Rome full control over Gaul. During his time as proconsul, Caesar saw a great opportunity in obtaining control over the Gallic province to the North of Rome, as he believed that the centralization of power was accomplished through gaining land. By the end of the Gallic Wars in 51 BCE, Caesar had reduced to the form of a province the whole of Gaul enclosed by the Pyrenees, the Alps, the Cevennes, the Rhine, and the Rhone about 640 000 square miles (Suetonius, Julius Caesar, 25). One of Caesar s motives for taking control of this much land was that it was a major expansion of the Roman frontier. It created a complete circuit of his empire, which would then be bounded on all sides by the ocean (Plutarch. 579). Caesar s strong interest in centralizing power within Rome died with him, the old form of a republic government was exhausted. Knowing this, Caesar made no attempt to mask his opinion, bypassing traditional practices (Bradley, 393). With Caesar naming himself Dictator perpetuo Dictator for life in 47 BCE, the senate soon began to see Caesar s power as a major threat to their own roles as senators. The Five Key Turning Points In Japan s Medieval Period The long, battle weary, four hundred year period from the late twelfth century through the Kamakura period (1185 1333), Muromachi period (1336 1573), and well into the sixteenth century is referred to as Japan s medieval period. The imperial government s authority was deteriorating, the provinces were in chaos as warrior clans fought amongst themselves, and regional military chieftains challenged the imperial government for the right to rule. Medieval Japan saw the development of feudalism and a militaristic society led by samurai clans. The Gempei War, Shokyu War, Mongol Invasions, Kemmu Restoration, and The Onin War are five key turning points in Japan s transition from a centralized imperial government to feudalism. These conflicts also demonstrate the evolution of the samurai ethos. Though the Kamakura period marked the beginning of warrior class rule in Japan, events in the late Heian period provided the means for samurai clans to rise to positions of power. The increase in the number and size of shoen (private estates exempt from government taxation) resulted in a significant decline of the imperial government s authority. By the twelfth century, it was estimated that only about one tenth of land remained in the public domain under the authority of the provincial governors. (Hane Perez p. 76) The lack of taxable land prevented the government from acquiring the financial resources necessary to maintain a national military. As the central government s military

Once I graduate I do plan on becoming a vegetarian. I already eat a relatively small amount of animal products so it is unlikely that I will be cutting it by half any time soon. Considering my busy schedule and need to not feel hungry all day or spend an hour trying to cook a balanced vegetarian meal, it is unlikely that the change will happen before May. Cutting some meat from my diet would also only decrease my footprint by .1, which seems insignificant. The overall health benefits of a vegetarian diet and the impact that the meat industry has on the environment are actually the real reasons behind my plan to cut meat out of my diet

  • 20. Female Labor Force And Sterilization Practices I would like to compare and contrast the subject of the Female Labor Force and Sterilization Practices. As the progressive era began, there are a lot of changes for the women s labor force with respect to politics. They were stronger because they stood up for themselves, refusing to be victims any longer and they did so by way of going on strike and making demands (Dubois Dumenil, 2016). The labor force at this time was 18.3% of women, which when compared to the 2014 statistic of 57%, shows a substantial increase over this period of time ( Women in the Labor Force, n.d.). Wage rates for the women in the early 1900 s continues to be approximately half of what the men earned, as well as there was a division between occupations and business sectors between the sexes so women were not given many options in the labor force. Many single women were limited to working in factories or domestic labor. However, as time progressed, more opportunities such as clerical positions, which were once a male dominated field, began to open for women. This gave them steady wages, clean and safe working conditions but eventually had a similar setting as factories and some were even paid per piece wages. Eventually, by the 1920 s, there were even professional fields opening up for the educated female workforce. This gave women personal independence as they were in positions such as medicine, law and teaching to name a few. However, these professional women would begin to have problems as we

Another method that was used in enriching a melody was by doubling it through the use of parallel consonant intervals. This practice was already employed in the ninth century treatises Musica enchiriadis and Scolica enchiriadis , and the term organum was adopted for several styles of polyphony illustrating two or more voices singing different notes in pleasing combinations according to the set system. The various styles of organum such as parallel organum, mixed parallel and oblique organum, and free organum illustrated in Musica enchiriadis were ways for singers to embellish chant in performance based on given rules for developing added voices from the chant. Guido of Arezzo described organum in his Micrologus , allowing a range of choices that could result in a variety of organal voices merging oblique and parallel motion. In most cases, these organal voices were composed orally, either improvised by a soloist or rehearsed beforehand. Evidence for such oral composition can be seen in the Winchester Troper ; a manuscript of tropes and other liturgical music from an English monastery in Winchester. It contains 174 organa where only the organal voices are notated in neumes which do not indicate exact pitches but serve as a reminder for a singer who already knows the music. This strongly suggests that the organal voices were composed and transmitted orally and were written down as an aid to memory. The earliest

The Huertgen is approximately 50 square miles, and was heavy with 100 foot tall trees. It was so dark that it was difficult to see more than a few meters in front of oneself in certain areas, thus making travel extremely difficult for the advancing U.S. forces. The Huertgen is made up of a deep gorge like valley known as the Kall Valley. It is beset by two large spurs of high ground where the towns of Schmidt, Vossenach and Kommershiedt lay. This gave some schools a very abrupt shock as they had to conform to the decision. As something that opinionated, it allows news media to explore and write about such a topic. By the end of the sixteenth century, ethnic groups that made up Ghana have already settled into their current locations. While the dedicated archaeological research of historians and oral history have uncovered and found remains that show that the area has had inhabitants since around 4000 BC, to this point in time, it seems the societies that lived there did not leave many traces for historians to study. Research does show that between 1471 and 1482 the Portuguese are the first to arrive on the coast of Guinea, known at this time as The Gold Coast, due to the its precious minerals. Happiness, kindness, and Christmas, Scrooge hates, until a clique of three apparitions comes and shows him otherwise. May I also add the fact that Scrooge is not very liberal, instead he is odious, and misanthropic. This man was a miserable, depressed, heavy hearted man. According to the text, no one ever stopped Scrooge in the street to say, with a gladsome look, My dear Scrooge, how are you? When will you come to see me? Scrooge has an unfortunate reputation of being antisocial, depressed, negative, untrustworthy. Extremely uncaring, and thoughtless to the poor people, Scrooge is, as he thinks there is a jail for poor people. In general, Scrooge is just very negative. The triplet of ghosts comes to show Scrooge the reasons of why it is bad to be negative, antisocial, and untrustworthy. Also, Scrooge is very much a gargantuan jerk. The three ghosts give Scrooge a last chance to change his unfortunate, bad reputation into a fortunate, positive reputation. The first of the three spirits was the spirit of Christmaspast. The spirit of Christmas past took ol dolorous Scrooge to see his past childhood. The text states that they passed through Scrooge s wall, and stood upon an open country road, with fields on either end. This city had vanished in present time. Good Heaven! Said Scrooge, clasping his hands together, as he looked about him. I was bred in this place, I was a boy here. The significance is that Scrooge learns to not be such a gargantuan jerk. Scrooge s feelings are as if he is being tortured by the spirit of Christmas past. As you would expect, Scrooge hated watching his childhood past, and begs the spirit of Christmas past to dispel him from his childhood. Scrooge very much is gargantuanly odious of watching his childhood, as he cannot bear it. The ghost of Christmas past takes Scrooge back. Scrooge wakes up, as it is about to be one o clock. It already has happened once, so Scrooge is used to all of it now, so he stays calm, as he pulls apart the bed curtains all by himself, and Scrooge also prepares to not freak out this time, though, nothing happens.

The consequences however, are seemingly becoming more damaging than experts thought. Natural gases are primarily composed of methane gas (CH4), gases which are 35 times the potency of carbon dioxideand traps much more heat radiation. The United States alone is responsible for 30% to 60% of global growth in human caused methaneemissions in the past 14 years (Magill 2016). During the process of extraction and transportation of natural gases, is where the problem resides. Methane leakage occurs from processing plants and storage facilities becoming a major concern for the environment. The big question is, how much methane actually escapes into the atmosphere and what are the challenges humans face trying to prevent further leakages. One of the biggest challenge is to identify the impact and damage that fugitive methane has and will do to the world. In a recent incident that happened at Aliso Canyon, California, there was a gas leakage that took place over a four month period that was only plugged. The incident is estimated to have spewed enough methane into the atmosphere to equal the greenhouse gases emitted by more than 440,000 cars in a year (Magill 2016, 1). However, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that more than six million metric tons of methane are have leaked in 2011. Meaning, the combination of

It is unheard of that a seven year boy can recall all single sins he has committed since birth. What s more, mind boggling is that a nun taught him any incomplete disclosure results in being condemned in Hell. It is what happened to Jackie. He is just seven but terrified of the first confessionhe is forced to give due to the terror he has of the religion. Life is hard for the child. He has a bratty older sister and an unbearable Grandmother. Normally in such abusive instances he wishes them both dead. He thus fears the confessions since he knows he has to reveal this sin and it will have consequences. In his dread, he mistakes the confessional shelf as a seat and ends up causing a disturbance after falling. Convinced that he is in bigger trouble now, Jackie is shocked by the priest s concern and sympathy. He gets a piece of candy and three Hail Mary s like punishment for the commotion. It angers the sister who then complains she no longer will refrain from being a sinner since it gets her nowhere (O Connor, 220). This amusing but... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Assignment Questions On Teaching And New Perspective I chose to revise assignments number two and three because they were my two favorite assignments out of the three we did during the semester. I felt that they were unique in the sense that I had never been asked to do something like this in an English class before. It is important to enjoy the assignments that you revisebecause the process takes a lot of time and effort. A writer must be fully engaged with his pieces to be able to revise effectively. I also think that they will allow me to work on two completely different aspects of my writing. In project two, my revisions are focused around incorporating sources and supporting evidence. I also look to improve development and new perspective in this piece as well. I plan on addressing these areas in a variety of ways through out my revisions. I will look at the way I incorporate sources to make sure that they flow smoothly and are needed and effective where they are currently placed. I will also look at the frequency at which I incorporate sources to see if there is opportunity to incorporate more. As far as the areas of development and new perspective go, I will look into my analysis and see if that can be strengthened in any shape or form. For project three, my focus is on the section of the rubric that deals with So what/who cares as well as global organization. I also am looking into improving focus and interpretation. In this task the concentration of an unknown sample of copper sulphate using colorimetry was used to find the concentration. In this investigation copper sulphate was used which is CuSO4.5H20 as a formula. To make a standard solution which was 1M, the same clean equipment was used to make up the standard solution as used to make sodium carbonate. However there was one difference and that was that the hot distilled water was used to dissolve the copper sulphate crystals. There had to be enough hot water in order to dissolve the crystals into the beaker and then add cold distilled water to cool the solution. After this, the solution was poured into a volumetric flask just about to the 1dm3 line and then it was left there to cool to the same temperature as the room before filling precisely to the 1dm3 line with distilled water. The molar mass of CuSO4.5H20 was 249.5 so that means 249.5g of copper sulphate was needed to dissolve, in order to make a standard solution, into 1dm3of distilled water. Following this, a linear dilution of the CuSO4.5H2O was made in order to be used to make a calibration curve after using the colorimeter to write down the absorbance of each sample. A linear dilution is diluted with distilled water in order for it to make the concentration weaker and weaker. For this investigation, the dilutions made ranged from 0.01 to 0.1 M/l . Wells The Time Machine recounts the trip of a scientist, the Time Traveller, from Victorian England to the future where humanity has been reduced to two sub species: the Eloi and the Morlock. The novella examines how key values of Victorian England, such as self improvement, shape the social structure of the Victorian period and the cascading effects of these values on the society of the future. In the Victorian social pyramid, the upper class, white, educated male was at the top. In this social hierarchy, under this Victorian male, were the rest of the English workers and the women. The Time Traveller is disappointed with how the Eloi had the same form of costume, same hairless visage and the same girlish rotundity of limb (24); the Eloi lacked individualism and masculinity. This accounts for part of the Time Traveller s disappointment. The other part of the Time Traveller s disappointment stems from his frustration with the course of evolution because he believes that humanity has moved toward contented inactivity (28). In the eyes of the Time Traveller, the Eloi society does not equate to Victorian society in regards to the overall complexity and intellect just as the imperialistic British thought the societies of their colonies did not have the same complexity and intellect as Victorian England. This parallel leads the Time Traveller to treat the natives of the future, the Eloi and the Morlock, just like the British treated the native of their colonies, with complete disrespect. The two groups of the future act very differently towards the Time Traveller. As Cantor and Hufnagel describe the two sub species, there is a good tribe and a bad tribe (38), which in The Time Machine are the Eloi and the Morlock respectively. The good tribe in this novella is pleasant towards the Time Traveller, providing basic necessities for his survival. In regards to the Morlock, the bad tribe, the Time

Swift also forms a solid argument by appealing to pathos in addressing heartbreaking topics such as, the mothers who, instead of being able to work for their honest livelihood, are forced to employ all their time in strolling to beg sustenance for their helpless infants, which promotes sympathy in the readers, thereby influencing them to agree with his proposal to counteract such unfortunate circumstances....
