Setting

This scene is set in the city of Macon after a Zombie apocalypse. Lee Everett is
walking through the city to find someone. The music starts off very tense as Lee
discovers the horde of zombies he must get through. When he starts to fight the
zombies, the music becomes more aggressive as his life is in danger. This music
describes the setting as very hostile since he could die if he gets grabbed.

I believe the audio piece for the Rock music when
Lee starts to fight the zombies is done on VST
audio. This is because I think the piece is too short
to have been done in a recording studio. The
stringed instruments help create an aggressive
atmosphere.

Mood

The mood here is tense, aggressive and isolated. When Lee spots the giant pack of
walkers, the mood instantly becomes tense. Isolation and anger is shown as Lee
passes through the mob and fights the monsters as he is all alone and is slaughtering
them.

I believe a technique used here was to build up
tense. This is because the over empowering noise
of zombie growls makes the player think tat Lee
will be killed by the horde.

Game genre

The games genre is adventure. It takes place in Eastern America and follows a linear
story instead of a game where you can free roam. I believe the music hear partially
suits the genre and this is because the player needs to venture through Macon in
order to find Clementine in this specific episode and the tense music fits in with the
zombie theme, but I don’t think the music hear suits the adventure genre. This is
because the rock music that kicks in suits a fighting game like Dead rising which is
mainly an action game

The zombie groans and limited music were used
as techniques for the game genre as the creators
wanted Macon to feel hostile whilst also making it
feel like a city to explore.

Narrative

The music here fits very well with the narrative. The story behind the scene is that
Clementine, a girl Lee is looking after, has been taken and is being held captive in
the building Lee is looking at, at the start of the clip. He has been travelling for a
while and knows there is one final push he must make to save Clem, so the
aggressive music fits in with the massacre later on. The player realizes that they are
not too far from Clem and must get to her quickly, and the music helps with their
mood and the story as Lee is determined to find her as she has been present in the
story in the past 4 episodes.

The aggressive music helps with the narrative as I
think it accurately conveys to the player that Clem
is not far away and Lee is so close. The player
knows that they cannot live up, so Lee falls to his
only option which is to fight and the music shows
his determination and anger very well.
