Auroville, City of dawn is located in state of Tamil Nadu, India, near Pondicherry in South India. .Auroville was founded as a project on experimental basis of the ‘Sri Arbindo Society’ on Wednesday 28 February 1968. The basic idea originated from Mirra Alfassa ‘The Mother ‘who was spiritually related to India.
Ma envisaged Auroville as an international township for 50,000 residents on the shape of a flower. Architect Roger Anger refined the planning and designed it in shape of Universe. He placed Matrimandir at the center of this city.
Mary Alfassa in her first message regarding the town stated that, "Auroville is meant to be a universal town where men and women of al countries are able to live in peace and progressive harmony, above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities”

Earth and bamboo are two materials which have been used together for a wide range of traditional construction techniques in Southeast Asia. Both materials are locally abundant and affordable materials with a very low carbon footprint. Both are known to be materials of the people. And both are materials which can be used for crude self-construction or with highly engineered precision. Are earth and bamboo only materials of the past, or are they also materials for the construction of a sustainable future? Please come to discover yourself in this 5-day hands-on workshop at Auroville. The same workshop format will be offered four time in the year 2015.
This is a student project presentation on the quote "Form and function are one" by Frank Lloyd Wright, for an architectural project on Product and furniture design (Industrial design) elective. The project showcases the meaning of the quote, it's relation to 'Organic Architecture' through FLW's vision for the concept. It consists of examples of various buildings for the viewer to understand and interpret the concept, followed by basic details on projects for various furniture and product designs, future styles, relating to the quote.
The PowerPoint file contains basic description about each project covered by mostly pictorial slides.

f you offer a service on the web, odds are that someone will abuse it. Be it an API, a SaaS, a PaaS, or even a static website, someone somewhere will try to figure out a way to use it to their own needs. In this talk we'll compare measures that are effective against static attackers and how to battle a dynamic attacker who adapts to your counter-measures.

• The term vernacular is derived from the Latin vernaculus, meaning "domestic, native, indigenous"; from verna,
meaning "native slave" or "home-born slave". The word probably derives from an older Etruscan word.
• In architecture, Vernacular refers to that type of architecture which is indigenous to a specific time or place
(not imported or copied from elsewhere).
• It is most often applied to residential buildings.
4. Vernacular Architecture
• The purest definition of vernacular architecture is simple…it is architecture without architects.
• It is the pure response to a particular person’s or for a society’s building needs.
4Ar.A.Purushothaman M.Arch.,PhD(NITT).,MCA.,AIIA., Project Architect & CEO - D2 Studio Architects
5. Vernacular Architecture
5Ar.A.Purushothaman M.Arch.,PhD(NITT).,MCA.,AIIA., Project Architect & CEO - D2 Studio Architects
Origin of the vernacular Architecture
• Buildings first evolved out of the dynamics between needs (shelter, security, worship, etc.) and means (available
building materials and attendant skills).
• As human cultures developed and knowledge began to be formalized through oral traditions and practices, building
became a craft, and “architecture”
• Then the most highly formalized and respected versions of that craft is idealized by 19th century.

The building methods are tested through trial-and-error by the society of which they are built until their building methods near
perfection (over time) and are tailored to the climatic, aesthetic, functional, and sociological needs of their given society.

“vernacular architecture is an area of architectural theory that studies the
structures made by empirical builders without the intervention of professional
architects. There exist many areas of non-professional architectural practice, from
primitive shelter in distant communities to urban adaptations of building types that
are imported from one country to another” – Paul Oliver

of Russia to core bottom of south India, and islands over oceans and seas, it does holds it hands from plain peasant quarters to luxurious mansions. There is
something here always to please any eye. That’s why Asian vernacular is always highly fortified with all 50 countries.

“Design encompasses the synthesis of usefulness, usability, desirability, appropriateness,
balance, and systems that lead to better solutions, more opportunities, and better
conditions, no matter what the endeavor or domain. In the end, there is no reason that
great design can't be beautiful and meaningful and sustainable.”
