The Dead Sea Scrolls contain biblical texts and other writings found in caves near Qumran in the Judean Desert. While imperfections in the scrolls have led some to question their authenticity, the essay argues that imperfections are natural given the copying process used at the time. Minor errors and variations between scrolls do not undermine the credibility of the texts and their value in enhancing modern understanding of the biblical texts.

This document provides a summary of the sci-fi thriller script "Rebirth". It discusses the main themes and ideas presented in the script, such as examining the advancement of technology and what it means to live without defects. However, the summary notes that while the script has strong concepts, it would benefit from more development in its structure and pace, as the first 10 pages feel slow and don't immediately engage the audience. Improving the inciting incident and pace could help grab the reader's attention from the start.

1. The Sagrada Familia
"The Temple [of The Sagrada Família] grows slowly, but this has always been the case with
everything destined to have a long life. Hundred–year–old oak trees take many years to grow tall; on
the other hand, reeds grow quickly, but in autumn the wind knocks them down and there is no more
to be said"1. These words, spoken by Antoni Gaudi about his life–long work, Temple Expiatori de la
Sagrada Família, are a means to justify the extremely long time needed for the construction of the
Sagrada Família, while referencing the themes and structural concepts he borrowed from nature in
his designs. While this logical explanation may give comfort to some, others doubt the temple's
eventual completion, as its construction has just passed 123 years, ... Show more content on

project, Francisco de Paula de Villar, originally designed the temple as a purely neo–gothic
structure. Less than a year into the project, the budget again played a role in the future of the
Sagrada Família, but this time it was clearly a change for the better. Del Villar wanted to use ashlar
columns in his design, a technique far more expensive than building up the interior with rubblework,
than covering them with ashlar. This started arguments with the Foundation, who criticized De Villar
for spending too much unnecessary money on the project. De Villar resigned because he was not
happy that his plans were not being followed, and the foundation chose 31 year old architect Antoni
Gaudi as successor. Although the Foundation and Gaudi were equally excited to be working together
on this project, neither party had any idea just how magnificent of a masterpiece they were destined
to create.

Secondly, the staging of Olympics often contains build the new sporting facilities or restructure the
exiting ones. It is often claimed that those facilities have failed to produce a long–term benefits to
the country; some of the sports venues often become unused after the Olympics is finished.
However, this ignores the fact that the whole society will get beneficial from infrastructural
investment and environmental improvement. The London 2012 Olympic Games have made a
dedicated plan for the usage of facilities before the facilities is built. For example, after the games,
the Olympics Village will become a new community housing. The new shopping centre, which is
separated from the Olympic Park, will become an employment centre of this area. Transportation
will get improved through the construct of new stations, line extensions and additional trains and a
largest urban park will build available for both local community and for elite athletes (Olympic
Delivery Authority, 2007).
The final reason why holding the Olympics Games have benefits for the host country is that it will
help to improve the host country's image. For the host country, it's not just a competition about
sports; it's a chance to improve their international prominence and a sense of national pride. Firstly,

Catalonia, Spain. It was commissioned as a resident hall by Pedro Milá, a businessman, after he was
introduced to Gaudi in 1905. As one of Gaudi's designs, Casa Milá shared many of his unique
architectural elements during construction and decoration, for instance, the design of furniture and
the courtyard ("Casa Milà (La Pedrera)."). Gaudi not only showed his strength in planning the

Gaudi studied the natural form as a basis for his architectural detail and further considered this as
the spiritual basis of and for his designs. Gaudi wrote: "Nature does not present us with uniformly
monotonous objects. Everything keeps its contrast, more or less, stemming from the vitality of the
colors" (Alvarez 10).
The work of Antoni Gaudi falls under the movement of Modernism and therefore is wrapped in the
traits of exuberant forms, ornamentation, great attention to detail, vast use of plant motifs, and the
preference to curvilinear and asymmetrical line. Along with his attention to great detail Gaudi
integrated the use of ceramic tile, stained glass, wrought iron works and master crafted carpentry
which ultimately enhanced the unique innovative design concepts in which he became noted for.
Gaudi introduced new techniques to the architectural world such as trencadis, which is a type of
mosaic made of waste ceramic pieces and which is one of the design details incorporated throughout
his work, one example being the spires of the Sagrada Família. Gaudi's work always involved a
distinctive use of materials in particular the use of texture and color arrangement which was almost
always included along with his imaginative style using ornamental ironwork. His wrought–iron
designs were arrived at independently and frequently in advance of the comparable experiments of
mainstream Art Nouveau (Arnason and Mansfield 101). Gaudi

15. Disadvantages Of Costas
Spain is the fourth largest country in Europe and due to its extensive Mediterranean coastline and
mild climate, it offers the discerning tourist a wide variety of resorts that are guaranteed to please.
There is something for everyone, whatever their specific holiday requirements, but sun worshippers
and water sports enthusiasts alike are well catered for. Due to the availability of cheap flights and
holiday packages, and an average of two to three hours' flight duration from most northern European
airports, Spain continues to be one of the most popular holiday destinations on the planet.
Apart from the Costa Verde (Green Coast), the Costa Vasca in northern Spain, and The Costa Galicia
in the north west, the most popular Spanish coastal resorts for sun seekers continue along the entire
east coast of mainland Spain, stretching from the French to the Portuguese border. Virtually any of
these resorts will be ideal for beach–based holidays, although some are more popular than others
depending on proximity to the regional airport. Originally fishing communities, these areas now
derive their main livelihood from tourism. The Spanish Costas (meaning coasts) often merge into
one another in areas that are highly developed. Going from north to south here is a brief
introduction.
By flying to Girona airport in Catalonia, or Barcelona, beach lovers can discover many sheltered
coves ideal for sunbathing and swimming which have largely maintained their original character
throughout the decades of being a popular package holiday destination. However, those who desire
sandy beaches rather than pebbly ones may be disappointed. This is the Costa nearest to southern
France. The premier resorts of Lloret de Mar and its quieter neighbour, Tossa del Mar are located
here, Lloret offers great night life to the young and lively set as well as quality beach time during
daylight hours. Amazingly intact medieval castles are typical of this region so there is plenty to
discover for those in search of history and cultural enrichment. Barcelona is also easily reached if a
day trip to the city is something you wish to do as a change from a day on the beach. Here you can

19. Analysis Of The Poem ' The ' Of Mendoza Utilises Onofre...
It is fair to say that Mendoza utilises Onofre Bouvila as a character to be portrayed as a direct
parallel to the development and aspirations of Barcelona. This is expressed in the novel, since; it is
irrelevant how rich and powerful Onofre becomes. This is due to the fact that, he can never be on the
top table of the social ladder literally and figuratively, due to his impoverished upbringing and
working class background. "corrió hacia la mesa presidencial... Al llegar a la mesa advirtió que no
quedaba una sola silla libre, ni un cubierto reservado para él. ¿Qué haces aquí parado como un
pasmarote? Tu puesto está allá, en la mesa tres... ¡Pero yo quiero sentarme aquí al lado de la

Therefore, one can surmise that Barcelona will never be able to consider it as the most significant
and influential city in Spain. This is mainly due to the fact that, it has the smaller population and is
not the capital city.
This is further illustrated with Onofre at the end of the book. When Onofre disappears on his flying
machine it is Mendoza's method to demonstrate to the reader that Onofre has given up on his
aspiration of achieving the highest echelons of the social ladder in Spain. This could be Mendoza's
intention to show that Barcelona's aspiration to escape the suppression by the hands of Madrid is
dissipating. "Los que alertados por el ruido de los motores habían salido a los balcones o habían
subido a los terrados vieron cómo la máquina voladora desviaba sur umbo hacia el mar, como si la
empujara un viento repentino de poniente." This shows us that Mendoza is trying to tell the reader
that what happened to Onofre is not important to us. This could be a criticism by Mendoza, about
the vociferous nature of which Barcelona and Catalonia attempt to gain independence from Spain.
He achieves this denigration by displaying Catalonia's cries for independence as falling on deaf ears.
Hence Mendoza uses the character of Onofre to express his point of view that the objectives

well as the more typical visual mediums like painting and sculpture. The movement kicked off
around the time of the 1888 Barcelona Universal Exposition, a world's fair, which presented

most powerful players for Barcelona are Neymar Jr. who was a forward and striker and Carles Puyal
who was a defender. For the 2017–2018 season Messi is the top player and had previously played

25. Criticism And The Themes Of Antoni Gaudi
Antoni Gaudi: I chose Antoni Gaudi because of the way he managed to incorporate the themes of
nature and religion into his work. Gaudi had a very deep appreciation and pride of the
Mediterranean heritage. A famous comment of him was "We own the image. Fantasy comes from
the ghosts. Fantasy is what people in the North own. We are concrete" this really describes his way
of viewing his own work... through his complete disregard from past designers and his lust for
starting a new trend which he got from nature. His love for nature was started by the time he spent
in his garden while enjoying his youth. He would spend hours in the garden looking at how trees
would move in the wind. This would later go on to inspire him to use the great sweeping curves he
would later use in his design projects. Goudi suffered from extreme rheumatism, this contributed to
his reticent and reserved nature. His doctors concerns where one of the leading elements towards

He is known to have been attracted to only one woman–Josefa Moreu, teacher at the Mataró
Cooperative, in 1884. Thereafter Gaudí took refuge in the profound spiritual peace his Catholic faith
offered him. Gaudí is often depicted as unsociable and unpleasant, a man of gruff reactions and
arrogant gestures. However, those who were close to him described him as friendly and polite,
pleasant to talk to and faithful to friends. Gaudí's personal appearance–Nordic features, blond hair
and blue eyes–changed radically over the course of time. As a young man, he dressed like a dandy in
costly suits, sporting well–groomed hair and beard, indulging gourmet taste, making frequent visits
to the theatre and the opera and visiting his project sites in a horse carriage. The older Gaudí ate
frugally, dressed in old, worn–out suits, and neglected his appearance to the extent that sometimes

29. La Sagrada Familia ( The Expiratory Church Of The Holy Family
In 1884, Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí began work on La Sagrada Família (the Expiratory Church
of the Holy Family,) a Catholic cathedral in Barcelona, Spain. What began as a modest Gothic
Revival design by fellow architect Francisco de Paula del Villar transformed, under Gaudi's
direction, into a massive monument to Catholicism, Catalonia, and the city of Barcelona. Neither of
the Gothic tradition nor Catalan Modernisme, La Sagrada Familia is known for its striking
individuality at the turn of the twentieth century. as well as its enormous scale and plethora of
motifs. While many people abhore the intense decoration and towering height, (people have
obviously also thought it worthwhile because the building is still under meticulous construction to
this very day and completion is anticipated in 2020, marking 140 years of construction.) Gaudi did
not mind that the construction would last beyond his death because, when given the extent of his
efforts, La Sagrada Familia became a vessel through which Gaudi could finally build to fruition the

Gaudi strove to imbue his architecture with a sense of life, and he was able to do this through

31. Analysis Of ' An Inspector Calls ' By Mendoza Okara...
It is fair to say that, Mendoza utilises Onofre Bouvila as a character to be portrayed as a direct
parallel to the development and aspirations of Barcelona. This is expressed in the novel, since; it is
irrelevant how rich and powerful Onofre becomes, he will never be accepted by the social elite. This
is due to the fact that, he can never be on the top rung of the social ladder literally and figuratively,
due to his impoverished upbringing and working class background. "corrió hacia la mesa
presidencial...
"These same men who asked for his
money do not allow Onofre to sit at the same table with the Russian aristocrat because he does not
have a noble lineage"4 (Karen Oswald pg. 54). This shows us that in this scene, Onofre aspires to sit
on the top table with the Czarina. Nevertheless, even though he is incredibly powerful and
considered to be the richest man in Spain, due to his deprived childhood and lower class
background, he will never be able to sit on that top table. Consequently, Onofre will never reach the
upper echelons of Barcelona's social elite. Therefore, it could be argued that Onofre is a metaphor
for Barcelona given the fact that,

33. The Design Philosophy Of Antoni Rovira I Trias
The Sant Antoni Market is one of the most popular and architecturally brilliant markets in
Barcelona. Originally designed by Antoni Rovira i Trias, an architect and urban planner who
publically favored the destruction of walls in Barcelona and supported free growth in the city. Trias
was a very outspoken architect and called for a change in the way Barcelona should be urbanized
and he actually won the competition, in 1859, for the design of the expansion of the city. However,
the central Spanish government in Madrid favored Cerda's plan instead. Nevertheless, Trias
continued with his work as an architect and he designed the markets of La Concepcio in 1885, the
Born in 1873, and most importantly for this research paper, the San Antoni market completed in
1882. Throughout this research paper, I will be analyzing the design philosophy of Rovira i Trias in

The market was made the unofficial center of the neighborhood and apartment buildings, houses,
other shops just started popping up around the market. The market was a perfect starting point and
center of a neighborhood because it was pragmatic to surround yourselves around basic necessities
such as food, drink, clothes, and other appliances and entertainment like they had in the market. The
locals were the major users of the market at first because it was right in the middle of everything so
it was easy to get to and it had everything they needed. They would either use the market or go by
the market every day and the sidewalks would be packed with people. Eventually, the market began
seeing some international interest. When people from other countries would travel to Barcelona they
would either stay in the Sant Antoni neighborhood or at least go and visit the Sant Antoni market

Beautiful beaches, amazing architecture & fantastic football
If my alliteration didn't make it clear what I have chosen as my favorite place, it is Barcelona. I have
visited Barcelona several times (3) the last few years and I enjoyed every minute I have spent in this
terrific city. I find Barcelona way more alluring than other cities, because of its complexity.
Barcelona is the only major city I can think of that attains the typical tourist conditions; nice
weather, history and architecture, sandy beaches & great shopping possibilities. I enjoy all of these
except for the shopping. In other cities, I have been 'forced' to stay at the entrance of countless
stores, while my sister and mother went shopping. Luckily, I am not obliged to do that when staying
in Barcelona, because the city has so much more to offer. Considering all these possibilities, I am
convinced that most people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The construction of Sagrada Família was commenced in 1882, but the cathedral has yet to be
officially finished. I find it amazing how architects like Gaudi, were able to build such excessive
buildings considering the lack of industrial inventions at the time being.
Another part of Barcelona I really like is the 'Olympic Mountain' Montjuïc. The mountain has of
course always been there, but it first started to become a tourist attraction when the Olympic area
was built in 1992. Near the Olympic stadium, there is a park with trees and different kinds of
flowers. One of the trees there is really standing out compared to the others. I assume it is more than
100 years old, probably even more. I am not sure why I feel stirred by this tree, but it feels like it is
enchanted or otherworldly.
On top of the mountain, there is a superlative viewpoint where it is possible to see most of the city.

37. The Role Of Imperialism In Catalonia
Anagette San Roman

Country's Imperialism:
Catalonia
The country of Catalonia, located in Europe, is a country that every single person would like to visit.
Visitors' time at this well–constructed, rather small country would be a great experience when
coming to their spiritual, physical, and mental health. However, the country is going to imperialize
the country of Spain because the people of Catalonia are demanding to be just like Spain. The
country is going to travel on small boats until they reach the coast of Barcelona, Spain. The main
objects that the country of Catalonia is after are Spain's land, resources, and their trade connections.
Although the country of Catalonia already has all of those three objects and connections in their
country, they just want to conquer another prosperous country like Spain. ... Show more content on

Socially, taking over Spain brought major changes in agriculture growth, population increase, and
trade. In the agriculture industry, the people were able to grow their own crops and learn from the
Spanish plantation workers. With the help of the Spanish farmers, the Catalonian people ate
healthier crops that would eventually let them take in all the natural vitamins and build their bodies
stronger. Catalonians learned from the Spanish knew to work hard and establish determination to be
successful.
In addition, Catalonia has gained political power from conquering Spain. For instance, the people
decided that they would rather be ruled by a king and queen. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella
made the decisions that they wanted to rule the people of Catalonia. With their rule came prosperous
laws and changes that would benefit the people and country as a whole. The Catalonia people were

a unique atmosphere. The flow was very artistic; you can see colors all over, artifacts on every town

modern artifact stood out for me. Looking at it from a distance, it grabbed my attention with its light
translucent structure; I couldn't define the shape. In my eyes all I could see was clustered,
intersecting, free stranding lines in the middle of Plaza Nova. This installation titled "Identity" was
designed by Chinese–based studio Urbanus, for Voltaire's "Barcelonans extreme love of freedom"
300th anniversary of 11 September 1714. On that date, after a thirteen month siege, the city of
Barcelona collided with French–Castilian troops and it turned into a very bloody affair that involved
all sectors of the city. The sacrifices and subsequent spirit of recovery turned this date into a symbol
of the Catalan existing national entity. A colored bamboo structure in a grid installation

43. The Secret Labyrinth Of A Snail Shell By Robert Hughes Essay
The readings this week began to introduce basic ideas about urbanization and some general
information about famous sites in Barcelona. In the first chapter of "Barcelona: the Great
Enchantress", Robert Hughes described how he was first introduced to Barcelona and its rich
culture. He painted a very compelling picture of a city I now can't wait to visit one day. He began by
introducing some Barcelonan sites he visited such as, the Sagrada Família designed by Gaudí, the
Pyreness mountain range, and his friend Xavier Corberó's house, Can Cargol, located in Esplugües
de Llobregat in Southern Barcelona. I found it fascinating that winding catacombs had been dug
underneath Can Cargol for storage and possibly defense in the Roman times (Hughes 2004: 5).
Hughes also suggested that these caves might have reminded people of "the secret labyrinth of a
snail shell" (Hughes 2004: 5) which would explain how it got its Catalan name in which translates to
house of the snail. He described his experiences in the cave and one particular instance stood out to
me; In one of the storage rooms there was an old printing press that could have been used by a
radicalist to promote anti–Carlist texts (Hughes 2004: 5). According to the Encyclopedia Britannica,
the Carlist movement was a political movement in Spain that attempted to change the government
system from a more conservative to a liberal style. It impressed me that this smaller town could have

45. Antoni Gaudi: Catalan Architect Essay
Antoni Gaudi was a Catalan architect from Spain who lived from 1852–1826 and was the master of
Catalan Modernism. Most of Gaudi's work was marked by his 3 passions of life; religion, nature and
architecture. His works show various unique styles that he attained through researching natural
forms and employing them in his buildings while studying every detail of his creations, assimilating
into his design every innovative design solution. He was influenced by Neo–Gothic art and became
a main part of the Modernisme movement, even though his works transcended the design of
mainstream Modernisme. He used organic styles inspired by forms he found in nature and rarely
drew plans, instead much preferring to use models and 3D moulding. His works ... Show more

This can be seen in the crypt and apse of the Sagrada Familia but eventually Gaudi started a more

Gaudi spent 1875–1878 serving his compulsory military service in Barcelona as a Military
Administrator, with most of it on sick leave, allowing him to continue with his drawing and studies.
He studied architecture at the Barcelona Higher School of Architecture and the Llotja School and
graduated in 1878. To pay for his studying expenses he worked as a draughtsman for various
constructors and architects such as Leandre Serrallach, Fransisco de Paula Villar y Lozano and Joan
Martorell. As well as architecture, Gaudi studied history, philosophy, economics and French with
average grades and occasionally failing courses. Through studying a broad array of disciplines,
Gaudi was able to study photographs of Persian, Mayan, Chinese, Egyptian, Japanese and Indian art
owned by the school. He also studied several books from the school's library as well as ornamental
and structural solutions from Nazari and Mudejar art, using them in variation and with stylistic
freedom in his work. Gaudi observed spatial uncertainty in Islamic design with its concepts of
structures with limitless space, fragmented with holes and partitions in sequence.

Going into my middle school years I was so scared of what was to come. People would tell me

Rome offered up many interesting historical structures from the ancient city that it once was. An
interesting feature about Rome was that most of the modern buildings are built on top of the ancient
city of Rome, with some standing on top of ancient buildings that were already up to thirty or more
feet tall. With this discovery it lead them to an excavation of part of the ancient city, which they then
found old farms and churches that can now be seen and walked through by tourist. Another
interesting aspect about Rome was that most of the roads, sidewalks, and alleyways are made from

55. Media Influence On The Media
Sports have always been a leisurely activity, and a way to escape the reality of the world. But the
actions that certain athletes, teams and fans have taken, changed the potential that sports now hold.
Whether it is athletes that kneel during the national anthem, athletes that hold a fist in the air before
the beginning of the game, or fans who protest in unity; sports can be used to spread political
messages. Even so, the media has an influence on the way people perceive the message being
displayed, and in a sense, it may be up to the media whether or not they want to help spread the
messages being sent in sports across. For a long time now, there has only been a handful of athletes
that stand up for what they believe in and take action to express their thoughts to the public. This
was seen recently with the football player, Colin Kaepernick, who kneeled during the national
anthem to raise awareness with the issue of police brutality. This one action taken by the athlete
blew up out of proportion by the media, as a myriad of media sources made this event their headline.
However, in a turn of events, Kaepernick was then forced to leave on his own the NFL team, San
Francisco 49ers, because if he were not to leave on his own, the team would get rid of him instead.
The reason behind the team wanting to get rid of this player could be seen because of how the media
that may in a sense be trying to help spread the message, instead is seen as a threat by the football
team. Since

57. Analysis : ' Derided By Rationalists For His Inimitable Style
Derided by rationalists for his inimitable style, Gaudi folded function into form through an intuitive
synthesis of the past, nature, and imagination that may have foreshadowed today's architecture.
Because of a fire in 1936 at the Sagrada Familia, many of Gaudi's drawings and models have been
lost leaving an incomplete biographical portrait. However, through analysis of his carefully
incorporated mythical and natural allusions, and balance of light and geometry, one can piece
together a more complete biographical picture. Additionally, by looking at Casa Battlo and Casa
Mila, along with several innovative designs, a picture emerges of one who by returning to the
origins foretells a prophetic architecture of the future.

Gaudi also took preparatory courses to get into architectural school and spent five years gaining his
certification. While earning his credentials, Gaudi worked on several projects outside of the city of
Barcelona. He was a lover of poetry and an insatiable learner, but he relished in the practical and
preferred hands–on engagement with learning over drawings and critical theory regarding his
creations.
Gaudi's practical approach to problem solving was an ingenuous confluence of experimentation and
invention. He built and tested geometric and organic models using a system of weights, gravity, and
photography to determine the capacity of load bearing a structure could endure and adjusted
accordingly. This system of testing allowed for asymmetries, convex, and concave shapes, and
volumes to penetrate and synthesize into harmonious and functional buildings, devices, and objects
where Gaudi could unleash his full creative potential.
Gaudi's early work revealed Arabic and Gothic influences absorbed during his education. Examples
can be seen in the Finca Guell (Figure 1), Casa Vicens (Figure 2), and Collegi de les Teresianes
(Figure 3). While thorough investigation of these structures would be advantageous in assembling a
more accurate biographical portrait of Gaudi, it exceeds the scope of this paper. Additionally, the

as evidenced by their motto, which says "More than a club."

The new club started off well enough; after losing to Bizkaya in the final of the inaugural Copa del

following year, they won the inaugural La Liga before entering a period of decline due to the

players. The same concept of characterising different network structures using motifs/patterns of
interconnection was developed previously by scientists to study natural systems such as networks of
neurons ,genes, and organisms in food

69. Religious Significance Of La Sagrada Familia
Though it is welcoming approximately four million people each year for touristic purposes, La
Sagrada Familia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is still making religious contributions by being a
place of worship.1 According to the statistics, each year 8 million people visit Barcelona, the most
famous city of Spain and half of them don't leave the city without visiting La Sagrada Familia.
Whether it is for a holy pilgrimage or for discovering the splendid landmark, even though its
construction is still going on, this temple has been a must see for decades! But, what is the reason of
its popularity? Is it about the gigantic size? Is it about the fascinating details of the building itself?
Or is it about its genius architect, Antonio Gaudi? Let's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Various scenes were sculpted by a team of architects including Josep Maria Subirachs. The lowest
level of the scenes shows Jesus' last night before the crucifixion, the second level shows the Calvary
of Christ and the third one shows the death, burial and resurrection scenes. There is also a figure
representing the ascension of Jesus on a bridge (Figure 9). Passion façade's pediment is formed by
18 bone–shaped columns with harsh lines as they symbolize the brutality of Christ's death, moreover
on the façade words from the Bible in various languages can also be seen. Third one, the Glory
façade will be the greatest of all when it is completed. It will show the way to God in four events:
death, final judgment, hell and glory. 7 large columns will be built and their base will have
demonstrations of Seven Deadly Sins and for their top; Seven Heavenly Virtues. 5 According to
Adrian Bejan, a professor of mechanical engineering at Duke University, the facades are based on
golden ratio and geometric proportions and they are like a "bridge between art and science". 6

71. Analysis Of The Catalan Architect, Antoni Gaudi
"Originality is returning to the origin," is one of the most famous and often–repeated phrase of the
Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudi. Gaudi was a devout religious man who believed that nature was the
origin and he started encouraging his belief of returning to the primitive basics. He had a great
regard for nature as a creation of God and most of his works were informed by an obsessive
religious spiritualism, a strong relationship with nature and heavy interest in ecology with an acutely
personal impression of design. Hif religious belief and architecture became increasingly intertwined,
while he studied organic and anarchic forms of geometry that were derived from nature, seeking a
way to give definition to these forms in his architectural designs. His interest and study of nature
informed fantastic organic arrangement of forms in one of his famous residential buildings, Casa
Mila, and its details. As in all Gaudi's later works, his models and studies made on the site, rather
than drawings, had been the key designing method for Casa Mila. He understood the abundant idea
of the natural world and expressed it with curved forms, never in straight lines. He also noticed that
natural construction tended to require ponderous materials such as stone and wrought–iron,
mimicking the appearances of muscle, ribs and bone of living organisms. With all these organic
models supporting his premises, Gaudi based the design of Casa Mila on a simple religious
perception; Considering that

73. The Apparent Second City Syndrome Feeling Rings
In this essay I will discuss to what extent Maiken Umbach interpretation of the apparent second city
syndrome feeling rings true in Eduardo Mendoza's La Ciudad de los Prodigios through a political,
social and economic standpoint. Furthermore, I will analyse How Mendoza expresses his own
personal feelings of the relationship between Barcelona and Madrid in the novel in regards to
Barcelona and Catalonia's desire to be independent from Spain.
The start of the novel takes place just before the first World's Fair in Barcelona in 1888. This is on
the backdrop of the start of the Spanish Industrial Revolution and Barcelona was at the epicentre of
this revolution in Spain as there was mass migration of countryside workers to the city during this
period. As a consequence this caused a huge population increase in Barcelona in a few years and this
is portrayed in La Ciudad de los Prodigios. "Conforme al censo de 1887... contaba con 416.000
habitantes, y este número iba en aumento a un ritmo de 12.000 almas por año." This gives us the
impression that Mendoza is trying to display to the reader how much of an increase there has been in
the population of Barcelona since the start of the industrial revolution and how much of a strain this
has had on the city itself and how the city's metropolitan area has increased to accommodate this
huge influx of people from the countryside. This adheres to Maiken Umbach Statement that second
cities were the hub of mass population migration from the

75. Barcelona Research Paper
Every place has its own unique characteristics that offers its visitors new experiences. The most
common reasons why a certain tourist attraction is so popular is because of its cuisine, sports,
recreation activities, architecture, or its amusement parks. What makes a place attractive to me are
its cuisine, architecture, and it sports teams and tournaments. There many places that have these
qualifications, but one place pops out more than the rest. Of all the famous tourist attractions, I
would be pleased to travel to Barcelona, Spain. One of the main reasons why Barcelona would catch
my eye would be because of its tasteful architecture. The architecture that fits in my definition of
"tasteful" would be the Antoni Gaudi's edifices. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are a variety of non–American foods that excites my taste buds, such as suquet de peix and
zarzuela, a stew that combines an extraordinarily wide range of Mediterranean fish. One of the most
popular dishes in Barcelona are inexpensive sardines that are grilled to perfection, a seafood that can
be easily chewed as my tongue absorbs its lemony/salty flavor. Another popular dish is "Fideuà",
noodles made with seafood cooked in fish broth. It is considered to be an appropriate dish in warm
weather. The fact that this country is home to sports teams and international tournaments is another
reason why I am eager to smell its air. Futbol Club Barcelona, also known as Barça, is a professional
football club, that is the symbol of Catalan culture and Catalanism, hence the motto "Més que un
club". Unbelievably, this team is the second most valuable sports team in the world, worth $3.16
billion. In conclusion, Barcelona, Spain is a destination I would be pleased to visit. Barcelona's
cuisine feature varieties of non–American dishes that are very attractive. Also, the architecture is a
splendid feature of Barcelona that consists of a variety of designs. Finally, Barcelona's sports teams
and international tournaments are rather traditional, and inspiring. Overall, I would like to visit
Barcelona because of its tasteful architecture, fine cuisine, and its valuable sports

77. Barcelona And Real Brid Comparison
Barcelona and Real Madrid have been rivals since the beginning of soccer itself. They have always
clashed and they both have some of the biggest fan bases throughout the world. Although Barcelona
and Real Madrid have similar offense and defense they are different because of their managers over
the years. Their major difference is the managers they have had in past. As an organization they
have always been similar being two of the biggest soccer clubs in the world. Their managers and
how they position the players and handle them is what makes the difference between a team and a
winning team. For example, Frank Rijkaard was one of Barcelona's most successful managers
because he took over the club at an all–time low. The world class team had ... Show more content on

Both Barcelona and Real Madrid have had the best goalkeepers around, Real Madrid having Iker
Casillas, a goalkeeper respected as the best in the world, and Barcelona carrying Victor Valdes, a
true hero on the field, but there is one problem they have stuck with the team for a long time. They
have renewed their defenses with young World Cup superstars. Real Madrid landed the Costa Rican
Keylor Navas who shined throughout the World Cup and captured the hearts of everyone with his
incredible saves, meanwhile Barcelona did not just stand by they also recruited a World Cup star,
Claudio Bravo, whom also demonstrated that you truly needed to be cunning and skilled to put the
ball in the net behind him. Besides the goalkeepers the on field defenders are similar as well, while
Barcelona has Pique and Dani Alves, Real Madrid has Marcelo and Sergio Ramos on the field. Each
one of them skilled and respected players in the soccer world, yet they have one small problem they
all need to be updated soon. They have stuck with the teams for a long time, but sadly it all must
come to an end and both team need young players to learn their spots and take over once they leave
